Morning Thread (10-13-2015)

The Democrats take the debate stage tonight (some requiring significant assistance).

It should be thrilling to watch committed lefty journos grill their heroes the way they do the GOP candida ... Oh. Yeah. Not so much.

6 Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, October 13, 2015. On this day in 1307 hundreds of Knights Templar in France were simultaneously arrested by agents of Phillip the Fair, to be later tortured into a confession of heresy. This is said to be the origin of Friday 13th bad luck. It appears that the primary reason for executing all those Knights Templar was that he owed them a large sum of money.

39 I see that Baltimore rang up killing #263 yesterday morning.
Then picked up at least one, maybe two more last night.

#263 was a victim of a previous non-fatal shooting, due to her status as a known drug dealer, with handgun violations of her own.

#264 died holding a handgun, when he was shot in the head multiple times.

Lots of head shots cropping up in the Baltimore reports.
And the Fatal/Non-fatal ratio is way off from Chicago, where you stand about an 82% chance of surviving a shooting.
Here, its about 66%..

All Moonbeam's act does is put a veneer of respectability (by Democrat standards) on what has been happening in California for decades. Illegals have had no trouble casting votes there before, and will have less trouble now.

Anyone who has voted in the "blue"/liberal areas of the state knows this. I saw plenty of people who wore made-in-Mexico clothes and spoke only Spanish in the voting booths when I voted there, and have no doubt illegal Asians did likewise in the areas where they have settled. It ain't rocket surgery.

Notice how there haven't been any repeal of Obamacare since the majority in the Senate is GOPe? They're even afraid to do it with those squishes in there because they are afraid it might happen.

96 Unlike many I'm not against making deals with Democrats. What I'm for, though, is winning on something, anything. Just pick one thing and organize around it. My primary problem with Boehner was that he is a no-talent hack, as is McCarthy (obviously). But, unlike many of you, I think he's pretty conservative and gave bills (like overturning ObamaCare) their chances to pass. I'm mostly in favor of replacing Boehner for the purpose of getting a more adept politician in his place. Since Ryan got toasted by Biden in the last election debate, I don't know he can do any better but I'm willing to give him a chance, and I can see why he's want to make everyone line up behind him before going ahead.

McConnell and the Senate Republicans are the real enemy. They're the ones who think they know better than the voters, and care primarily about "good government" instead of principle. It's McConnell who needs to go, and I couldn't even begin to guess who should replace him. I wish Demint was still there.

So here is where we part company. "Reality" in this instance is just your advocacy of not changing how the House operates, a process Pelosi put in place and the GOP continues to use. The government is so big now that "regular order" has come to mean omnibus budget bills, when the Constitutional power of the House is embedded in individual Department budgets.

The House needs to begin focusing on each Department. Let the committee involved develop a bill and pass it, under the general guidance of Ways and Means. Make the House do it's fucking job.

Sure- its going to be a huge work load. But that's because the government has grown too large, and the process will make that obvious even to the big-government uniparty.

I have to admire -- very grudgingly -- their methodology. Bitch McConnell, who controls a majority in the Senate nowadays, blames it on Hairy Reid, and Boner blames recalcitrant Democrats. 140 WASHINGTON (AP) -- The private email server running in Hillary Rodham Clinton's home basement when she was secretary of state was connected to the Internet in ways that made it more vulnerable to hackers, according to data and documents reviewed by The [Right-Wing Conservative] Associated Press.

Clinton's server, which handled her personal and State Department correspondence, appeared to allow users to connect openly over the Internet to control it remotely, according to detailed records compiled in 2012. Experts said the Microsoft remote desktop service wasn't intended for such use without additional protective measures, and was the subject of U.S. government and industry warnings at the time over attacks from even low-skilled intruders.

Records show that Clinton additionally operated two more devices on her home network in Chappaqua, New York, that also were directly accessible from the Internet. One contained similar remote-control software that also has suffered from security vulnerabilities, known as Virtual Network Computing, and the other appeared to be configured to run websites.

The new details provide the first clues about how Clinton's computer, running Microsoft's server software, was set up and protected when she used it exclusively over four years as secretary of state for all work messages. Clinton's privately paid technology adviser, Bryan Pagliano, has declined to answer questions about his work from congressional investigators, citing the U.S. Constitution's Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination.

The only "solution" -- for those who really want things to change for the better, and aren't just Players at the Game of Politics -- is to replace all national elected beings (can't call 'em "people") with a new bunch. Just my opinion, it's not that I believe that the Republicans have given Obama everything he wants. It's about having the appearance of a representative government. Broad stroke here, but pretty much every major issue that conservatives have felt strongly about, the Republican leadership has stated that "Nope. Not the hill to die on" and they appear to cave and the Democrats win again. It's about the optics. If they give the appearance that they won't even debate any issue, what are people to think?

Anyhow, once it was decided that majority ruled, we were boned. We are going to bleed to death. The only choice is how quickly we bleed out.

Posted by: Usedtocould at October 13, 2015 08:16 AM (pz+6x)

148 Look. I think the quicker we resign ourselves to the fact that shit is going to change in Washington, the better.

The Republicans are going to faux placate "the conservative base" and they'll ride that horse until the legs fall off and it will all be bullshit. But a lot of "the base" will buy it for a while and that's all they need.

Most of the so-called conservatives in congress know who butters their bread - they know that the Chamber of Commerce is going to be dumping money on any of them who toe the line and they will do anything to not have the C of C oppose them, and they will do whatever they have to, to get some of that scratch.

Easy money. All they gotta do is play the game (which means continue to screw the country).

Shut it down, I say. Let the goddam parasites riot in the streets because their bennies are cut off and maybe the idiots in this country will wake up and see just how many freeloaders there are.

But the GOPe won't do that, because they're too scared of the mean things the MFM will say and don't have a balls-out spokesman to pin the blame for the shutdown on the dog-eating crackhead infesting the Oval Office.

Additional study suggests that Everest climbers aren't thrill seekers . Slogging up a steep mountain in high altitudes is apparently-for many who have done it-not a thrill. It's give people a sense of control over their lives that they may not experience in daily life or relationsips.

Show of hands; How many actually believe that anything in the coercive, punitive tax code will ever change, especially if a professional politician gets the nomination?

There is no way they will allow the tax system that allows them to bribe and cajole individuals, businesses and states into doing their bidding and to punish them if they don't, to be changes.

Just like social security reform, or medicare reform - two other things that MUST be changed to get a handle on the debt, but will never be changed because they are such huge slush funds for politicians.

It's gonna burn - slowly or quickly, but it's gonna burn. May as well make plans for the spreading and the salting.

The intelligence centre, which includes six members from each country, has been operational for approximately one week, Hakim al Zamili, a leading Shi'ite politician, told Reuters.

293 Is this something. WSJ has a business case of two big W.V. horse tracks, both failing financially because you can gamble on other stuff now. Turns out that most surviving race courses in the East are heavily subsidized by their attached casinos, and that strategy was championed by Donald Trump.

I was a rube about horse racing. I'd go to our local track (pacers) maybe once a year, to watch the pretty horsies. I was midlife before I met the system-handicappers and astrologists who made up the actual "horsey set." They were like characters from a Tom Waits song. Classy tracks put a gentlemanly face on some pretty sleazy activity at the top, and some pretty low treatment of the horse-providers at at the bottom. In between, just a bunch of $2 bettors. And so, you learn about life. I was not surprised to see casinos take over the action.

There is a definite Social Conservative aspect to yon Sport of Kings though, Molly and TenBroek and all, and I think it's interesting that Trump, nobody's sentimental sweetheart, has been willing to take quite a loss to keep it up only for its entertainment value. And I wonder how that kind of thinking translates into national policy-making. Of course, on the course, he's only playing with his own money.

Disclosure, my grandfather was an actual horse trader, and my road is named after a once-famous great pacer from these parts.
