21 the only thing that keeps the progressive liberal meme going are young people.

Idealistic and totally clueless due to lack of time on the planet they latch on to these really cool ideas that seem to be the answer for everything and that their parents poo poo or outright hate.

Then they go to High School and then College and get told that they absolutely are the cutting edge of good think and that they can be the first to bring the world into a heaven on Earth.

And they've managed to obfuscate or outright eliminate the History that could tell them otherwise.

That's why we have a Democrat for President about every generation or so. Just enough time for all the previous destruction wreaked by the last one that no one realizes how good they have it.

I've gone through 4 now and it's been really a pain in the ass because they struck just when I was in the hole and made it so much harder to climb out. (although Clinton wasn't quite so bad because the GOP surprisingly kept a tight rein on his ass.

.In their eyes they truthfully didn't think they were doing anything wrong, they actually thought they were helping people by ignoring facts and science. They truly deep down thought they knew better than anyone else on what was good or bad for you. They were in with the science that said "if it tastes good, it has to be bad for you" and they ran with it and are still running with it. A key point here, they still think they know whats best for you.

34 Dylan Thomas really is a far left prog nut case. I was reading some of his Twitter feed and obviously thinks himself an intellectual, as do his fellow propagandists. Worst insane tweet was his wondering why discussion of immigration is focused on what is good or the US. Shouldn't it include all mankind? If open borders benefits poor Africans more than it hurts American citizens it is a net plus. Being so centered on what is good for us is selfish and nativist.

41 I voted for McGovern.

Hey. I was living in a communal house on the edge of the Yale campus in New Haven. It was infested with Yalies and a few other denizens of some local colleges.

It rubbed off on me. They kept me around cause I was older and new how to do practical stuff around the house.

When I tried to become the Secretary (it was formed as a corporation) they stuffed the ballot box against because they knew I was going to make people start paying their membership fees.

Scratch a Liberal :: find a Fascist Dictator. (and a mooch).

Taught me a very important lesson though.

53 Not that it matters, but where are the editors?

Huffington Post is running an article complaining about mistakes in a McGraw Hill textbook saying millions of slaves brought to the southern United States were "workers". There apparently is some sensitivity about the term "worker" .

The big mistake here is that from the 1500's to the late 1800s, only 300,000 to 450,000 slaves were brought to the U.S.

All the best sources agree on this range.

McGraw Hill not only has to write this inaccurate stuff, they go through a period of review where educators have a chance to submit changes and corrections. No one caught this.

If anyone is set up to comment at Huff Post, it would be nice to let them in on some facts.

Lets just say the SJW-ing is strong there and I can see why they kind of make ESPN-W its own separate site for left-wing female sports fans - who I doubt even watch any sports. Apparently their are no female sports writers employed by ESPN who actually give a shit about sports but then again there are also no black writers there who give a shit about sports; all the women and blacks at ESPN write about are social justice grievances; some of the articles could actually have been written at the HuffPo or Salon and I wouldn't even notice the difference except these happen to be sports related. I guess its just ESPN filling its women and minority employee quotas?

You don't hear that too much in a Catholic church. Nor OCS, for that matter. Which is too bad. 108 @76 Oh, now I'm confused. There is a prestigious poetry journal from Canada called The Puritan. And, of course, there was the 1992 Puritan pornography case. One just wonders which one was like way too much by a master Moron. Hmm?

Another mangled term is "Victorian." Anyone who spends time with the real Victorians knows that, despite their careful phrasings, they could do things no gentleman would in a way only a gentleman can. But then there is your "American Victorianism," a different creature entirely. I think "Puritan" is like that. Easy epithet, but has not much to do with the actual people.

Lyrics to Onward, Christian were by Sabine Baring-Gould (that's a man, baby), who among many other things was the leading authority on...werewolves. Huh.

198 Morning, you people (allegedly).

>>CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -
The Caddo Parish Commission voted Monday to kill a proposed ordinance banning the shooting of a certain guns within a mile of a subdivision.

>>Concerned residents packed the commission chambers and several stood up to speak against the proposed ordinance. "Hunters are a very vocal group, as well as gun owners, anytime they feel people are coming close to infringing upon their second amendment rights, they get involved," said Rob Broussard, who opposed the proposed ordinance.

>>Only one person spoke in favor of it, explaining the issue is a neighborhood problem. "I have stood out there for hours at a time listening to heavy weapons,

225 Lynne Stewart, terrorist lawyer, is still alive and kicking. She was granted compassionate release bc she claimed that she was dying. The feds are very generous and grant it if the prisoner has less than 18 months to live. Her 18 months were over July 1. During that time she was appearing at rallies and shit. She now says that she is in remission. What a scam!

Texas is not so gullible. Max Soffar shot 4 kids in the head. 1 survived. A year ago last April, he had only days to live. Then it was weeks, then months. So, after a year and a half he's still alive. For some reason the groupies thought the gov could go against the law ad grant him release. Not on a capital case. So, the they wanted his convictions reduced to life with parole and that he be granted parole. What a house of cards! I doubt that is legal either. Regardless, tdcj said he was not eligible to even apply for a reduction in sentence.

Posted by: Grump928(c) at October 09, 2015 09:30 AM (evdj2)

262 I've always believed it would be a really good idea if regular old citizens had access to an instant background system where they could call in someone's drivers license and see if they were GTG for a firearm sale.

Not mandatory, and criminals wouldn't use it anyways. It would just be a way to make everyone happy.

Of course, that assumes honest actors on the gun control side. Which they aren't, and why I don't normally even mention it in a gun debate.

263 Well I think the president will not be welcomed into the community. And that is not just my opinion. We talked to dozens upon dozens of citizens, some family members of the victims, our elected officials. And you may have a copy, if you don't I'd be glad to read from it on the air that our Douglas County commissioners along with our Douglas County sheriff, who is very popular, and our chief of police all came to consensus language about him not being welcome here to grandstand for political purposes.

Hope the citizens come out in force.

264 I always come back to that post-shark jump Happy Days episode where Richie Cunningham is volunteering for Adlai Stevenson, and the devastated look on Richie's face when Eisenhower kicks his ass on election day.

Wasn't that one of the earliest episodes, when they at least pretended to be in the 1950s? All I remember is that the Fonz was an Eisenhower man: "I like Ike. My bike likes Ike."

In theory and on paper it is a good idea. However as man is fallible it will not be perfect. Just see the SC shooter skipping by on a background check.

And to make everyone happy is a huge waste of time. It never happens.

269 Southern Oregon is abuzz with chatter about an armed protest scheduled to take place in Roseburg just over a week after a crazed gunman opened fire on the local community college, Umpqua Community College, leaving ten dead, including the shooter.

While many small towns might be thrilled to have the president make a special appearance in their community, many Roseburg residents are seething about Obama's scheduled arrival on Friday after President Obama so gruesomely sought to exploit the community's grief just hours after the last gunshot rang-out on the community college's campus.

If someone is selling 50 or more guns a year (approximately one per
week) they should be classified as a gun dealer IMO. Possibly something
like a CR license. We aren't talking about normal folks who trade or
sell a few guns a year here.

I disagree. At most that's a "hobbyist."

In general I'm against the government having any *more* say in trade
of any variety, but especially with guns where I'm already skeptical of
mandatory federal background checks.
.
.
.
. I am not disagreeing with the fact the Feds shouldn't be involved in selling or buying guns in the first place, that's an argument for a different day. What I am saying is that if our hobbyist feels the need to sell constantly, he fits the definition of a business. Same as a guy who buys and sells cars, and he should have to comply with the same laws that other people doing business have to.

I'm not sure. There seems to be some pushback against TFG and his band of Merry Marxists (including those in the GOPe), but it appears to be happening in slow motion.

We voted the Dim/progs out of the House in '010 and out of the Senate in '014 and nothing has changed. TFG is still getting his way and the people are noticing. I'm glad the SoH race has imploded, but not for the reasons the MFM will cite.

Maybe the cumulative effect of Boner's never-ending weakness is catching up to the GOPe. I can only hope.

280 I've been reading the Leviathan sci-fi series, and in it, the Earth has a universal living wage called "basic".

The thing about basic though, is they don't pay for anything else. No more schools or anything else. If you want to move up in the world, you have to work some menial job and be off basic for a couple years before they'll even look spending any social money on you.

Overall, I think it's be a net positive. Of course, I've always felt that way: if the rest of the safety net was abolished and you just had that wage, it's be a net win for the taxpayers.

Which would never happen, of course, it'd just be a raise.

That's the first argument they use, yes. That if we replaced all that with such a thing that we'd be saving money. But if you actually try to have the discussion and ask about what happens for things like extreme medical bills, natural disasters or price spikes on goods needed to live, the scope quickly increases to also include universal healthcare, price controls and every other lefty wishlist item.

After his first year in office, Gingrich and Boehner's tenures were indistinguishable except that Newt embarrassed us even more.

Newt puts on a good show. But anybody who wants him back was not paying attention to him as Speaker in the 90s.

Anybody who wants that guy back as our leader should never comment on Republicans in Congress again.

But, off the top of my head, we caved on the 95 shutdown just when polls were going our way. We caved in an abortive later attempt. After trying to pass a little bit of it, we abandoned the Contract with America. And federal spending increased.

This man has a track record. And it's a track record of having a large majority and doing little with it. We got Welfare Reform. Yay. Yes, I blame the Senate and Bill Clinton too, but that distinguishes the 90s from right now not an inch.
