Hell, I'm not admiring Putin, I'm marveling at the wondrous outcomes from Sir Golfalot's "leading from behind" approach to foreign policy.

It rather resembles the "leading with my behind" approach favored by female baboons in the throes of estrus, both in performance and outcomes.

7 I always believed Reid did injure himself as he described since I've got first hand experience of a similar accident with the old time steel spring exercise equipment. That he's suing the manufacturer for his own negligent actions makes him more of a douche , if that is even possible.

Oh yeah , Harry. We totally believe you.

causing more than $50,000 in damages.

Really? The loss of use of one eye is only worth 50k?

I wonder if the guy who punched his lights out told him to sue . You know , to maintain authenticity.

Good morning

A presidential quiz. You put in yes/no/etc answers regarding issues and it spits out a lot of interesting weighted results, including where you fall on the spectrum, which party you most identify with, what themes your politics are, how you match up with your region.

I'm apparently a right-wing libertarian who matches maybe 19% of anybody near me, ought to be part of the constitution party [which I've never heard of] and 93% support Ted Cruz, who I will never vote for in any case, becoz GOP and they need to die.

Re: arguing against gun grabbers

Once you enter into an argument with them, youve already lost. Some things are not debtable. As soon as you concede that the issue is debtable, you lost.

This is why we are very near to general acceptance of the mentally ill so-called transgenders. There really is nothing to argue about -- these people are mentally sick and need help, not ebaling and affirmation.

70 Gun Control Is About The Issue, Not The Solution

Of course it is. As long as the populace is armed - even just a decent percentage of the populace - no tin-pot dictator is going to have completely free reign over Americans.

Sure, we put up with a lot of restrictions on our liberties (way more than I think we should), but even the Declaration says that man is predisposed to suffer while suffering is tolerable. Having 300 million guns in private hands ensures (or at least makes it an even gamble) that should those sufferings become unbearable, that we will have the wherewithal to stop suffering them.

You've got to admit, Putin is a great leader.

In fact, Putin is exactly the right leader for Russia right now. The dissolution of the USSR was a traumatic event for the people there, and they need a strong leader who appears to be on an equal footing with the U.S.

Russia has embraced capitalism, so there is no worry about it trying to become a Soviet style communist power again.

I just don't understand where all the hate comes from.

So I think I mentioned earlier in the week (maybe yesterday) that the Christian radio station I listen to in the car is doing a big push for domestic abuse awareness/prevention.

Today, they had a story from a survivor of abuse and I was struck by something she said - she said her councilor instructed her to get rid of all the guns in the house. Now, it seems to me that's exactly backward. If her husband is going to kill her, he doesn't need a gun; a knife or his bare hands will do just fine. On the other hand, if he's trying to kill her and the only thing she has to rely on is her own ability at fisticuffs, she's probably dead.

Am I completely off base here? I mean, I get that him having a gun makes it *easier* for him to kill her. I even get that it's easier for him to do so in a moment of rage where - if he were unarmed - he might stop at merely maiming her. But if the primary concern is her safety, and you can't get her to leave, why wouldn't you want her to have every available tool to defend herself?

But if the primary concern is her safety, and you can't get her to leave, why wouldn't you want her to have every available tool to defend herself?

134 So Obama gleefully proclaims he will keep politicizing these (few) "mass killings" till we submit and let him confiscate our weapons (and freedom).

He tacitly admits he will keep the crazies out there and make them famous when they go on a rampage. He will keep our precious children in unsafe "gun free zones" ... as a threat to us, to force such submission. Back at Sandy Hook I think it was Matthews that could hardly contain his glee, that they had another crisis not to waste.

They hold the children hostage in unsafe gun free zones, and demand good citizens disarm to make the control freak commies feel safer as they continue their assault on our liberty. Obama proudly proclaims he will continue to leave YOUR children vulnerable (not his) till he gets to take your guns. "Surrender, or more kids die."

139 Quick recap, for the young: When a "crazed gunman" started sniping from the clock tower at UT Austin, students retrieved their rifles from their cars ["pickup trucks"] and kept him pinned down, until one cop and one armed civilian got to him.

The strongest, and one of the oldest, self-evident arguments for an armed studentry. And yon prof-emeritus walks right past it, every day. And he will pass it on his way off campus. Obviously only unfair retirement pay regulations keep him in Texas.

nb, one of the Tower victims was the son of my poetry professor, in northern Ohio. I'd say it put him right over the edge, but, poetry, Ohio.

I have issue on this similar thinking (that I expressed, though not maybe what is intended by the poster here) from some Christians I know, that don't want to fight the good political fight ... they seem to think war and pestilence is inevitable, and that it is a waste to engage in the "worldly" political battles. She doesn't want to be "victim-blamed" she says, by people criticizing her for just not walking out of the hotel room, which she was free to do at any point. That seems like a totally legit criticism of her to me, but OK, how about criticizing her for bargaining price?

227 The leftist push against the 2nd Amendment and firearm ownership by upright, hardworking, and independent everyday Americans is but one small piece of the puzzle.

Look at all the various ideas, industries, and practices in America that Obama and his comrades attack - anything that opposes the idea of citizens as wards of the all-powerful State - which alone may grant all necessities for life to its "children". The very idea of an American Constitution and Bill of Rights which holds that every man is possessed of Individual Rights granted by God, is to deny the very core of the tranzi-progressive belief system.

Obama, his comrades, and his blind followers, are a deadly dangerous threat to the continuation of everything we hold dear (and in some cases, take for granted).

Reports about terror activity in Iraq have been "grossly thrown to the side" by officials in U.S. Central Command since the death of Osama bin Laden in 2011, according to a former Army official with the command, in an attempt to paint a rosy picture of the coalition's efforts in the Middle East.

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class William Kotel told the Washington Examiner that he was pushed out of his position after raising concerns about "missing pieces" in reports for Central Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East. He had attempted to include in his official reports information about an Iraqi target that had allegedly stolen U.S. money from the Central Bank of Iraq. But the intelligence was stripped from his final report at the behest of his superiors, he said.

Since it was first reported that dozens of intelligence analysts have accused Central Command of downplaying information that suggested terrorist groups such as the Islamic State were making strategic gains, five congressional committees have opened investigations into the matter, on top of a probe by the Pentagon's inspector general.

Kotel, who was noncommissioned officer in charge of the Joint Targets Enterprise, said warnings about imminent terror attacks in Iraq were required to be routed through a maze of Pentagon channels, a process that could take weeks, instead of communicated directly with military units in harm's way.so there is testimony n the Hill about intel ccoking the info to make it sound like jihadis in Iraq

Kotel was courtmartialed He was acquitted of four of five charges. The fifth charge was for having porn on his computer

236 He said the policy of substituting economic or environmental information for terror-related intelligence in reports was never made explicit by Central Command's leadership, but that he and his colleagues had "implied orders" not to report facts on the ground in Iraq.

The problem, Kotel said, is not necessarily that final reports were being edited for political reasons. Instead, it's that key intelligence wasn't allowed in those reports in the first place.

Kotel said it was "really disheartening" when credible intelligence about terror activity was discarded.

This has been going on in Hollywood from the get-go, yet when actresses get real power, real media attention, what do they bitch about?
Things like "not enough women directors" or "not enough roles for me now that I'm over 40."

Truth: sisterhood doesn't look out for its own, they did the degrading stuff to get where they are so now they're using their feminisms to angle for better stuff.

I admire Putin because a few years ago he vowed to protect Christians in the Mid East and he is. Here is one fantastic article from the American Thinker about why Putin is saving Christians. The article quotes the Rev Franklin Graham who also came out to support Putin and Assad and he said that he believes Putin will save lives. Link in my nick. Putin can rock on and I wish him the best in Syria.

Of course there's different kinds of politicization. There are the racial politics before the fact that make these incidents more likely. Then there are political arguments made in response to the event, and these might either exploit the event in a dishonest way or seek honestly to prevent a recurrence.

The objection to Obozo are his racial divisiveness and exploitation of the tragedy for political ends.

The vague, conflating bullshit he spouts here is designed to confuse and mislead. It's why I can't bear listening to political speeches, because it's so frustrating to see these fucksticks get away with it.

Q: What service does Cuddle Up To Me provide?

A: We offer fully clothed, completely platonic cuddle sessions of 15 minutes to 5 hours. The goal of a session is to help us in those moments in life where we either need more touch or simply don't want to take anything from the amazing people in our worlds to get what we need. We want you to know that you matter and you are loved without the guilt, shame and judgement our culture can sometimes bring us when we try to reach out physically. The cost of this lovely service is $1 per minute; the results are priceless.

The cost of our liberty and standard of life has to be factored in to all trade deals. Most favored nation status certainly shouldn't go to our enemies or those that hold their own citizens in subjugation. There aren't enough like you that can find the niches and/or overcome all the extra burdens of US regulation and taxation.

We do have other infrastructure advantages, and true, our freedom is a bonus in raising hard workers (or used to be). But I tend to agree with some of the labor union arguments, that we have to "protect" the American worker first. Outside our borders, trade is better treated as national defense ... economic warfare, in essence. Certainly trade is used as a weapon routinely by our geopolitical enemies.

But congrats again on your success ...

It has nothing to do with blue states, it is a national standard. And if VW if forced to "fix" the cars fuel efficiency will go down.

306 There are arguments both for an against pacifism based on the Bible. If people such as the Amish refuse to fight in wars, that is entirely in keeping with their interpretation of the Bible. They do however, as far as I know keep guns for hunting/keeping predators away from their livestock and I would assume that had someone had a gun during the school massacre the perp would have been shot-at least to disarm him. However saying one could know exactly how Jesus would feel about issues related to many 21st century issues is sort of a guessing game. He wasn't a 21st century man. We all have a tendency to do do eisegesis-read things into Scripture- whether our basic stance is leftist or conservative:

Well thanks but I can't take all the credit. I've got a good team working with me and it is truly a team effort.

I don't disagree that we have to take care of workers of all kinds but I don't think protectionism is the answer to that. We can out compete anyone on the face of the earth if we are given a moderately level playing field and honestly, unions are part of the problem from my perspective.

Look at all the foreign auto makers who have come to the US in the last few decades. They are doing great but they aren't doing it in Detroit or any other union state.

Workers have oodles of protection available to them these days and they don't need unions the way they used to. Unions served a purpose at one time but that time has past.

Free the American worker and American companies to compete and we will outproduce anyone. We just need to trust in the principles that allowed us to become the most powerful country in the world, we can do it again.

312 305 Furries and bronies - will never understand them. And any time you mention bronies, out they come out of the woodwork-people you would never think wd be into that weird shit.

I'm a 35-year-old mom of two. My five-year-old daughter looooooooooooves My Little Pony, and so I've had to sit through a good deal of it. Honestly, as far as children's programming goes it's decent. Has some genuine chuckle moments and there is a lot in the way of puns and portmanteaus that are clever and clean, but aimed at the poor adults that have been dragged into the show.

However, if my daughter decided tomorrow she hated it I would not mourn it, either.

313 We all have a tendency to do do eisegesis-read things into Scripture- whether our basic stance is leftist or conservative:

I don't know what that means, but I'll take it to mean that we tend to read our own interpretations into the Bible. A few things do stand out to me and have helped form my admittedly somewhat-skewed view of life (in that not many people share it).

I have no tolerance for bullshit of any type. And the world seems full of lies and liars. I'm starting to enjoy jolting them back to reality. I'm not really worried about the consequences, since this world never liked me much anyway.

Bronies are adult men who are into My Little Pony. Flurries are people who "identify" as animals or having animal spirits and go around dressed up as animals.

It's weirdness all the way down.

315 I don't trust Putin to save Christians. The only thing I believe Putin is interested in is extending his own and Russia's power. Of course, Obama isn't protecting/saving Christians either.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at October 08, 2015 10:25 AM (GERXL)

316 Furries, not flurries. Autocorrect and I do not get along.

And I hate that I know what those things are. I was alerted to the Bronie thing by a brother-in-law that found my daughter's interest in MLP amusing because he knew what the bronies are. I was pretty horrified. And I know what furries are because it's been discussed on this site in the comments a few times. Furries make me want to volunteer to colonize Mars. Just to escape the insanity.

319 I read that the My Little Pony movie is very conservative in its worldview.

320 A prayer for backbone-from Nazarene evangelist Uncle Bud Robinson-an elderly early 20th century Texas Nazarene evangelist cowboy who stammered and didn't have much schooling, but brought thousands of people to Christ in the years he was active:

"O Lord, give me a backbone as big as a saw log and ribs like large timbers under the church floor. Put new shoes on my feet and galvanized breeches on my body. Give me a rhinoceros hide for skin, and hang up a wagon load of determination on the gable-end of my soul. Help me to sign the contract to fight the devil as long as I've got a tooth-and then gum him until I die"

from "Holy Humor"

I would have liked to meet brother Robinson

322 "There are arguments both for an against pacifism based on the Bible"

yeah ... but I don't think dying "FOR" Jesus is ever advocated. Or at least phrasing it that way makes it seem like it is doing something for Jesus. Refusing to denounce is brave I guess, and "Foxes Book of Martyrs" would seem to extol the virtue of dying for their belief.

But I think the "wish above all things that you prosper and be in health" or be "more than conquerors in all things" is more the Christian role, whereas it was Jesus that had the mission of paying the price through sufferings. Old testament leaders obviously fought a lot.

Anyway ... I'm just being persnickety about the whole "martyr for Jesus" thing. I don't even believe the whole Bible is true, but hate to see any hint of the submissive Christian, feeling that is their role. But clearly others are entitled to their own preferred verses.

323 right Jack Straw ... I didn't mean to sound pro union ... I'm certainly not. But they are the ones making the argument that "comparative advantage" doesn't really work, and they have numbers now to prove it.

Our freedoms and system give us advantages, but trade imbalances are real. Part is due to punishing unnecessary regulation and taxes, but I don't assume that letting China steal from us, or rewarding other countries that pay 17 cents an hour, is going to automatically work out. The playing field will never be level. Many laws must be obeyed for Milton Friedman axioms to apply globally.

Krauthammer talked on FOX of how we succeeded with "free trade" after WW2 ... but doesn't mention that we wiped out global competition before that, so had a leg (or two) up. All these TPP deals require massive detailed negotiation, but the Chamber and lobbyists slant the argument based on their needs, not long term national interest.

Anyway ... just one of my bugaboos ... I always look for your comments, more so knowing you are in (small?) business. Global markets are certainly the best way to extend liberty to the world, but being tough and having our government only advocating for we the people is necessary.

cheers

324 I don't think wishing that one prospers and be in health is exactly a Christian thing. It sounds like something more from Proverbs. It's not a bad thing, necessarily if it's not an end in itself-but when I hear "prospers" I think of prosperity preachers which make me cringe. Whether one is materially successful or not is not necessarily a an indication of God's love or approval. I guess my bottom line is that being a Christian is the process of being transformed into the image of Christ-which is a lifelong process with many backwards steps.

Should people try to be martyrs? No, eventually they may end up being so if they maintain their convictions. The state will be increasingly unfriendly to Christians or anyone who doesn't uphold the state as god.

Appreciate the comments. Not an easy problem and I absolutely agree that trade imbalances are a real and growing problem.

My view is that globalization is inevitable. The world is getting smaller by the day and we really don't have a choice but to engage. It's like trying to stop the tide, you can't do it, you can only hope to adapt to it.

What frustrates me is that so few in DC have a clue about the things they legislate on. I don't claim to have all the answers but I'd be willing to bet I have more actual experience working in this environment that 90% of the clowns who make the rules and they do not listen. Hell, many of them aren't even smart enough to understand the issues.

I absolutely agree that we need a government that forcefully advocates for the American worker and stops with all the apologizing crap. That part of Trump I find very attractive.

329 253 I'm not admiring Putin because I'm anti-Obama. That's not the prism I see the world with. My world view is based on more important things than that.

Thanks for the link to the article. It absolutely sums up what many Christians feel, especially those of us with ties to the Middle East.

330 hey Fenelon ... yeah, decades ago in my Bible days "we" were more on the side of God wanting us to live abundantly, be "more than conquerors". Yeah, that is spiritual first I guess, but I think old and new testament show God's desire for us to live well. The prosper verse I used is III John 2 ... those hundreds of verses I memorized still stick in my head.

But yeah, it also says ... "even as thy soul prospers", which has to be first. But I'm still very much against the doing penance type thing, or getting forgiveness by confessing to some priest. "Sonship rights" are a permanent legal status, and condemning Christians so they "pay up" is the same tactic Obama uses to condemn Christians and all traditional America, making us pay forever for old "sins".

Trump's Norman Vincent Peale brand of religion may be a little too much on the "positive thinking" side, and the "think, pray, and grow rich" ideas are not the best reason to become Christian either ... so you have a good point there. But the land of milk and honey can be in the here and now.

331 I think it would actually be most awesomely appropriate if Harry Reid is actually telling the straight-line truth about his injury -- thus basically admitting that he is a clumsy putz who maimed himself and is now engaging in a piddly-diddly lawsuit blaming the product manufacturer for his own folly. Petty and mean and small, a perfect fit.
