Ted Cruz Bitchslaps Sierra Club President on the 18-Year Pause in Global Warming

Via Instapundit, alerted by commenters.

The amazing thing here is not that the guy disagrees -- what's amazing is that he doesn't seem to know what Ted Cruz is even talking about. He does not know what "the pause" refers to (it's the 18 year long pause in predicted global warming), and has to rely on advisors throughout the questioning.

At no point does he seem to even show a glimmer of recognition of this fact. This is all new news to him.

5 Truth is that this guy gets paid off to be on the pro- side. It suits his purposes, just like he claims the 'deniers' are paid off. Yet, his side is where the real flood of money is: subsidies, green energy, regulation, taxes, government power, fundraising, ad infinitum.

10 What? Somebody really thought the issue behind the global warming hysteria actually involved anything to do with the climate? Or the environmentalists actually understand the environment with any scientific rigor?

11 All the Sierra Club President knows is that Cruz is a denier and that he cannot be acceded any space. It isn't that he does not know about the pause, but rather that it is an unfair to him.

It was like Hillary's "what you mean like with a cloth" answer. It is a lie meant to discredit the questioner.

71 Aaron Mair comes from Albany, New York. He made a name for himself by fighting the environmental policies of the Democratic Machine, which was kabuki theatre.

He incited racial divides in the City of Albany while he lived in a nice predominantly white suburban town of Guilderland.

He is outmatched. For decades, he bounced between environmental justice and racial justice. Rarely did science ever play into his act.

The Sierra Club should be ashamed that they selected such an incompetent race baiter.

That 97% of climate scientists BS statement was debunked long ago. In

Yeah, the confluence of racial grievance with AGW is a new specialty.
Think what they're saying is AGW causes more weather events like hurricanes and floods, and poor people more typically live in flood plains, tornado zones, etc. because that land is cheaper.
They also tie in the pollution angle that big business pollutes lower income areas because the richer areas are not near plants, and because they know the Richie Rich's have more political clout to get that sh$t shut down.

97 At one point, Gina McCarthy of EPA delivered a lengthy screed in front of a Congressional oversight committee about the imagined terrible evils of carbon dioxide.

After her prepared testimony, McCarthy was asked what one would have imagined to be an amazingly simple question for someone who was informed regarding the issue. To wit: "What is the current level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?"

McCarthy immediately froze up, got the deer in the headlights look, and started to stammer and backfill. She didn't give an actual answer. Could not give one. Did not know what it was.

The federal mandarinate don't know these basic things but still presume to make sweeping and hugely consequential policy decisions based upon ignorance -- and the Permanent Bipartisan Fusion Party is just fine with allowing them to do so.

The problem with AGW is that there is no science in it. Science means you use scientific method to examine a phenomena and develop a theory as to why it occurs.

The Warmies developed the cure (taxes on western countries to be given to 3rd world dictators and destruction of western economies. Then they developed a theory from that, then the manipulate numbers and lied their asses off to support the BS theory.

For years, they claimed development in the Pine Bush was destroying the habitat of the Karner Blue Butterfly. They claimed the habitat so unique that the butterfly could not possibly breed anywhere else. Of course, they were aided by the Albany Times Union and a compliant media.

Then someone stood up one day and pointed out that the Karner Blue Butterfly population was booming in nearby Clifton Park, a developed community in Republican Saratoga County.

Their whole non-scientific claim that the habitat was being destroyed was blown away because it was revealed that the Save the Pine Bush never bothered to consider population research outside of their precious little Democrat fiefdom.

If it did so before the industrial age, what was behind that? How have Arctic and Antarctic ice caps grown and shrank over the years? If I grant you CO2 plays a role, what else could be in play?

Pro-science position - The earth's climate is incredibly simple and has been invariant for 1000+ years until we started increasing the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. So if some guy wrote a paper that discusses why gerbils might grow thinner coats in the event of global warming, he get's out down as a "climate-change believer" even if he just threw that in to get grant money.

269 I wonder what kind of beating the guy is gonna get? The guy that told his boss that "the pause" happened back in the 1940's. I thought Ted was going to snort coffee out of his nose when he heard that!

Posted by: goon at October 07, 2015 01:58 PM (gy5kE)

270 Go, Ted, go!

271 I concur that this "expert" is a parrot.

There once was a doll that if you pulled her string she would say the same thing over and over again until you yanked it faster and faster and she went berserk (*Chatty Cathy). This is who this guy reminds me of with his redundant, on cue, "I concur with the 97% of scientists" yada. Pathetic. Buffoonery on display.

*hope this is not raciss

272 Oh, and was anyone else hoping he would answer Sen Cruise re: "pause" with, "Certainly, sir, they are the feets of animals!" Eleventy! Or,"You mean the pause that refreshes?" Or, "Like in this "pause" where my one brain cell is rattling around?"

Posted by: ChristyBlinky, aging supermodel Redneck Queen at October 07, 2015 02:12 PM (LJ4iV)

273 @261...I love your name!

I used to say Boutros Boutros Ghali all the time just because it sounded funny and irritated my husband. ha.

One of the first gibbering my eldest son said was "DeGalle, DeGalle, DeGalle" really fast and always three times. We are not sure what he was trying to say, probably "feed me" as he was huge.

274 I have taken over this thread! Yay! A Christy coup!!Eleven!!

275 I have to agree with some others, this makes me like Ted Cruz a hack of a lot more. I will take a second look.

He seems calm, cool and totally collected here in absolutely eviscerating this guy.

276 Hahahaha this is still all mine, my precious!

Now we are going to talk about that wonderful BB cream by YSL that seems to solve all problems (it is obvious Hilz does not have this information as she is, apparently, wearing some type of orange paint on her wrinkly face. Bill probably tells her she looks 18 (he is saying '80" but that is how her one functioning ear hears it. Hearing is way off due to bobble head motions and the vertigo thing). She should resort to just pulling her vast wrinkles back with Scotch tape and calling it good.

As this is my very own place to converse now that the rest of the morons are up there ^^ I would like to introduce the subject of what is bugging me today. This will be a daily forum. I am bugged, today, that the roofers are not here after dumping a dumpster in driveway. Let's get this show on the road, boyz. Times-a-wasting.

Oh, and husband is now telling people I tried to kill him yesterday by burning gas fireplace without opening flue. Wrong, as i was in room inhaling a heck of a lot more fumes than he did before the discovery. If I wanted to kill him he would be daid.

I sure hope I own this thread forever and ever. xoxo

277 Sen Cruz totally owned this empty suit stuttering his one and only memorized facts: "concur" and "97%."

The only thing different from this Dem playbook was him not uttering "I plead the 5th."

I am sure somewhere Mr. Concur is clutching a fifth right about now...

Sen Cruz performed a cosmic wedgie then tossed his concurred panties into the ring without even leaving his chari. Love you, Sen Cruz!

278 #221 I'm guessing 'no' since he didn't suddenly end up taking a dirt nap.

279 I thought that Cruz did a good job. I also think that Mair is a weasel. But, Cruz has a heavier lift. Cruz has to break through the media embargo built around the GW lie.

Mair merely has to stall endlessly. Which is it what he did. Refuse to offer a sound bite that sounds defensive. Refuse to acknowledge evident that contradicts your position.

Mair's tactics are those of a person who knows that he has time and inertia on his side. Unfortunately he does.

I wonder if Cruz should get some of professionals quoted in Mark Steyn's new book. Cruz could ask Mair a question. Then wait for the inevitable refusal to answer. Then ask the other, well credentialed, person the exact same question. Let the contrast in answers impale Mair.

280 I know it's a dead thread, but

A) There are at least 4 "97%" studies, with mostly different (but equally bad) methodologies, which have all been handily debunked. That's one of the tricks, keep making new, stupid, fraudulent studies so they can claim there's a new one when you start debunking the old ones. The last one was fairly recent. Oh, and they all say "97%," no variations. Hmmmm...

The entire field is up to its neck in lies.

B) Yeah, he knew about the pause. Nobody talked about anything else but how to get rid of it for *years*. It's like being a tech industry lobbyist and claiming to know nothing about H-1B visas.

281 Senator Cruz did a fine job displaying the nonsense position of the Sierra Club when it comes to would they change their position if the data supported other conclusions.

It seems the Sierra Club's position is similar to the position of many in the Middle Ages that the earth was flat -- 'proven science'. Then it was proven to be a sphere, but many institutions back then stuck to their nonsense position that the Earth was flat... Religious institutions were perhaps the biggest supporters of the flat earth religion.

The Sierra Club's position is akin to 'the earth is flat' and that's settled science... So there's no debating that issue... It was written in stone by a bunch of scientists a couple decades ago...

282 A MATHEMATICAL discovery by Perth-based electrical engineer Dr David Evans may change everything about the climate debate, on the eve of the UN climate change conference in Paris next month.

A former climate modeller for the Government's Australian Greenhouse Office, with six degrees in applied mathematics, Dr Evans has unpacked the architecture of the basic climate model which underpins all climate science.

He has found that, while the underlying physics of the model is correct, it had been applied incorrectly.

He has fixed two errors and the new corrected model finds the climate's sensitivity to carbon dioxide (CO2) is much lower than was thought.

It turns out the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has over-estimated future global warming by as much as 10 times, he says.

"Yes, CO2 has an effect, but it's about a fifth or tenth of what the IPCC says it is. CO2 is not driving the climate; it caused less than 20 per cent of the global warming in the last few decades".

283 ... or you could believe the 97% of scientists

Breathalysers could be used to curb alcohol abuse among scientists at US bases in Antarctica following "unpredictable behaviour" caused by excess drinking, including fights and indecent exposure.

Officials from the National Science Foundation told an audit of healthy and safety at the two US-run bases -- McMurdo Station and the South Pole -- that drinking has led to "unpredictable behaviour that has led to fights, indecent exposure, and employees arriving to work under the influence", according to a report in Wired.

The agency is reportedly considering shipping several breathalysers to the isolated stations, which together house up to about 1,150 people, including scientists and support staff.

But such a move could potentially pose legal and administrative problems, as Antarctica is not US territory and it is not clear who would conduct the tests and what rights of appeal would be available.
