2 What is the knock against Bobby Jindal? I just think our side is on crazy pills, people like him should be near the top of the pack.

You have a Governor willing to take on entrenched interests and shake things up but because they aren't cartoonish figures, they get ignored.

This explains more than anything how presidential campaigns have changed over the last 10 years.

the NATO phonetic alphabet has a singular purpose -- to make call-letters understood by just about everyone in the civilized world.

For instance, J is "July." And C is charlie, while K is Kilo. It is, to any reasonable person, fool proof.

But now the supreme a-holes at obama's NOAA are going PC with the storm naming.

You do not name a storm "Juan" or "Joaquin," as is the most current storm. This is Idiocracy in the here and now, not hundreds of years in the future. Is obama's FAA gonna change the aviation alphabet to make it more PC and diverse, too? Planes will, literally, be flying into each other.

He's managed to become unpopular in his own deep red state, and he's awful on immigration: He said in a NR editorial that he wants to increase legal immigration "by a lot", because apparently importing 1.2 million new 80-20 Dem voters a year isn't enough.

Which is to our everlasting shame. I'd love a Silent Cal in office - hell, I'd take another Zachary Taylor compared to the shambling, clownnose gazoos infesting politics right now - but until the American public gets serious, we won't have a serious candidate for the presidency. Or, at least, not one whose image is serious.

32 but until the American public gets serious, we won't have a serious candidate for the presidency. Or, at least, not one whose image is serious.

Correct. In our system of government, we get the government which reflects the popular culture, not leaders that shape it. And as our national debate shrinks to 150 character shouts at each other and hash tags, the character becomes more shallow and unserious.

It seems the MO to get noticed for this election cycle is to seize on a previously ignored issue and let that be your focus for a while. Of course, you have to have some awareness of one or two of them first.

In case anyone wanted to understand a jesuit or a leftist that thinks that they're intellectual (but i repeat myself).

If the hack who is the current Pope wandered into most American churches, they would not equate abortion with the death penalty; despite the Conference of Bishops and many priests trying to sell the lie, it hasn't (yet) worked.

But they obviously want one gone, and they will not exert the same amount of effort to stop the other.

So this guy wanders into Congress, does one obligatory throw away line about abortion ( which is now largely a Federal issue and has been since 1973) and waxes poetic about the death penalty, which is mostly NOT a Federal issue.

And he does a private meeting with Kim Davis which is only announced after the fact and he's on his jet outta here.

No meeting at all with Cuban dissidents or prisoners. he made a big splash meeting with violent criminals here.

Any smug bastard would be proud of themselves for the performance.

I think Bobby Jindal's been unfairly pigeonholed as a wonk, which has colored peoples' attitudes toward him,and personally believe Jindal would be an excellent President. That said, Donald Trump's still leading (or tied with Carson) in the polls. Maybe Trump's charisma is a dog-whistle kind of charisma to which only certain people are susceptible, because I just don't see the attraction and cannot understand why his supporters are so thrilled by the guy.

161 There's a reason Jindal's approval rating here in La. has been hovering around the 30% mark for quite a while. Louisiana has become a fiscal disaster on his watch and he has spent his time in office visiting Iowa on the state taxpayers' dime rather than pushing the kind of fundamental reforms the state so desperately needs and which he was uniquely positioned to deliver.

His insistence a few years ago that "I have the job I want" was laughable, because Jindal was never interested in governing the state of Louisiana. We were simply a vehicle for his national ambitions. In this year's elections running against Jindal has proven to be good politics for Republicans and Democrats alike, as candidates from the race for governor down to the race for mayor of Lafayette have been cutting ads boasting about how they "stood up to the governor".

I believed in and enthusiastically voted for this guy in 2003 and 2007. I did not do so again in 2011, because by that time, after a term in office, it had become clear what he was really all about. 178 Score! Great podcast.

179 Saw Jindal on that Outnumbered show on Fox. He was very effective. Great sense of humor, charming, and very intelligent. Cruz is my guy, but Jindal would certainly be acceptable to me.

180 At this point you have to wonder if he's legitimately going for it, or is just in to get a cabinet position.

181 Gabe, thanks for asking my PP question. Great answer from Jindal, too.

182 Well, now I've listened to an AoSHQ podcast.....

183 159. Jindal can't call himself "Robert" because that isn't his name -- it's just "Bobby", which isn't actually short for anything. He took his name from the Bobby Brady character on "The Brady Bunch".

184 Jindal has been my top choice since 2008.

Still is.

185 I like Jindal, he's my fave left since Perry and Walker dropped out. He speaks well and forcefully, hope he's in it for the long run.

186 Jindal,

I'd think he'd make a good HHS secretary, as we shut the place down.

187 jindal beats jeb, rubio and the rest of the establishment candidates handsdown for me.

plus he's extremely interesting to listen to, unlike those listed above.

Good interview.

Governor Jindal reminds me (once again) why he was one of my favorites early on.

Not only has he been solely responsible for actually governing things (making many executive decisions in the process of leading his State) but he's also hyper-intelligent and extremely good at thinking on his feet and quickly expressing conservative ideas principles in readily understandable phrasing.

It's too bad he's stayed stuck in the basement of the polls. He really is one of the two best conservatives we have to choose from.

But he's also young enough to take several more bites at the presidential apple.

ace, I was surprised to hear he was(is) one of your #1's.
I thought you had dismissed Jindal because of seemingly insurmountable "charisma" issues.

189 Now I know why I don't like Jindal... Classic non-answer to the H-1B question. H-1B is out-of-control and killing the IT industry in this country. The whole notion that we want smart immigrants who went to school here to work here is bogus. Most of these H-1Bs go to weak schools and are scooped up by industry because they don't have to give them a raise for 6 years.

Jindal needs to read Norm Matloff's blog.
