83 "I would love to have been a fly on the Kremlin wall when Kerry announced

That must have gotten a good laugh."

The UK press are reporting that the newly arrived Russian contingent are conducting air strikes which are incredibly large. With a metric shit-ton of very nasty ordnance -- cluster munitions -- and with no apparent concern for civilian casualties.

The first order of business for Ivan? It's not bombing the Islamic State. It's comprehensively wiping out the "moderate Syrian resistance" to Assad which Barky so expensively attempted to train and arm. And at this rate of application of raw firepower, it's going to take about five days to finish them off.

Oh, that wet sound you just heard was Juan McLame overflowing his Depends again. You know how fond he is of those "moderate" Syrians.

86 Pope Francis met with Kim Davis and urged her to stay strong in her faith.

-
I heard a story one time about some famous author or actor who got a scathing review from some critic. Later, after another performance, he happened to be standing in the men's room next to the critic. The critic told him that he had been wrong and that his latest work proved him a great whatever. The artist thanked him but said tht in the future he would prefer to be complimented in public and insulted in private.

Maybe Pope Frank should be a little more circumspect about his public and private remarks.

104 Speaking of autocorrect, have you trained your AI to recognize foreign words like Weltanschauung or Gleichschaltung? Or the common french phrases that appear here and there to add an international flavor to blog commentary.

Two words popular with elite pundits. Google's online spell check built into the browser already knows those words but you have to search google for the word to get to a thesaurus; i.e. it's not built into the spellcheck.

Addons and extension to your favorite word processor are another area for exploration. Presuming you have the time, and like to play with words.

It absolutely is. Cardio, teamwork, coordination of your eyes and feet, constant motion and on-the-fly thinking from the players, no pads, only 17 rules, clock constantly running.

It's an even better game for adults for those reasons.

That fact that most of the top 10 most valuable sports franchises on the planet are soccer clubs isn't an accident. It's a great game, amateur and professional.

The Manchester United-Liverpool regular-season match last week drew a bigger TV audience than the Super Bowl.

Given that Russia has no qualms about acting much closer to the "total war" line than we do, how did they get their butts handed to them in Afghanistan? I lived in Europe for many years, and used to dread home soccer matches. Yep. It's why polo has never taken off.

Soccer has another advantage: it takes zero athletic ability or skill to play. To play well, yes, but not to play at all, and have fun. Six year olds can run around squealing and kicking madly, absolutely bereft of skill, and yet have fun.

Contrast the American sports: baseball, football, and basketball. If you can't catch, throw, and hit the ball at least to some extent, baseball is no fun. Football (touch) is almost entirely passing, so if you can't throw a spiral and accurately lead a receiver, and/or he can't catch the ball (future DB), football is no fun. Basketball, same thing: you have to be able to shoot to some extent or it's boring.

Compare tennis with racquetball. Tennis is no fun until and unless you can serve and return service. But racquetball is fun from minute one: killing the ball takes skill, so unskilled players have rallies that go on and on as long as they're willing to run.

Patriotism is a sometime thing. Kinda like "questioning authority" or "dissent is the highest form of patriotism."

If the President is a traitor, it's A-OK to be patriotic, whereas questioning authority or dissenting is treasonous. But if the President is a loyal American, exactly the opposite is true.

280 Because it requires virtually no skill to play and everyone can do it with virtually no talent, soccer is the rap music of sports.

282 "BPL? You mean EPL?"

Yes, the "Barclay's Premier League." That's the name of the top division in England. People use "EPL" and "BPL" interchangeably.

I really enjoy putting you some knowledge on so many subjects. I truly admire when someone wants to learn and expand their horizons. You are to be congratulated.

I hate that bullshit re the Angels. I refer to the Dodgers as the Brooklyn Dodgers of Chavez Ravine.

"how did they get their butts handed to them in Afghanistan? "
It's not the equipment. It's the officers and NCOs. Take all the quality people Obama has drummed out of the US military, give them Russian equipment and a reasonable time to train with it, they would kick ass. Putin is using elite troops the equal to any in the world. US had better quality in non-elite troops.

Posted by: just saying at September 30, 2015 12:37 PM (I0sxh)

Yup.
The Russkies lost A-Stan because most of their troops were drunken, ill-trained conscripts. Same reason they largely got their asses handed to them in Chechnya until massed artillery and air power flattened Grozny. In both cases, the only ground troops that were worth a damn were Spetznaz.

There's an interesting Russian after-action report on Afghanistan that's floating around, the English translation is titled "The Bear Went Over The Mountain". LOTS of Russian fuckups in detail. A definite must-read for anyone interested in Russian military affairs.

Manchester United's official website has a link to buy shirts that is titled "New kits 2015/16."

Last time I checked United are an English club located in an English city and the website is in English.

Like I said, I've heard both used interchangeably.

I've watched every minute of United's season thus far. They'll be playing against Wolfsburg this afternoon if you'd like to check out the most valuable sports franchise on the planet, yourself.

United are the side in red. Hope that helps.
