This morning's dump really cheered me up, particularly the Harsanyi one about the GOP buffoons and the pseudo-investigation of PP.
I have never seem any televised Congressional committee hearings that didn't forcefully remind me what a bunch of shallow, lazy, stupid, corrupt, unprincipled, undisciplined, and incompetent people "we" have elected to represent us!
The Representatives on this committee had one job yet they were able to fvck up a freebie and score zero points!
The bonus is that the DC Cartel have already rigged the game to ensure their PP cronies will get taxpayer dollars to launder into sweet campaign contributions (or in Boehner's case a lobbying slot on K Street).

I've often thought that one of the things that went wrong after WW II is that the Brits dismantled the Empire. Truly civilized colonies would eventually have become free, and the really bad ones would have had a fundamental civilization imposed on them. And yes, I realize that for a number of reasons it wasn't going to happen!

Russia is NOT in Syria for any other reasons than Russia's interests... They will help Assad if they can, but ultimately, they want a base in Syria and that is all, so they can further influence the region against the West's and Israel's interest. They are setting up a sophisticated Surface to Air network to control the air space not only above Syria but also in the Eastern Med. They have, just this AM, told the Americans to stop flying in Syrian airspace.

I don't really care if the vast public agrees with conservatism as a political philosophy, I only care that they can be persuaded to elect people to office who generally do, and will enact conservative priorities, more-often-than not, into law.

I think a lot of the angst on the right is because folks want to get an apology of sorts from the LIV types who voted Obama, or some kind of acknowledgment that "I was right all along."

With Russia essentially joining Iran and China joining them both, the hegemony of that axis in the region is automatic and that includes over Israel. Israel naturally will not take it setting down and it is likely that all of the axis will feel some pain.
But seriously, what can Israel do? This is by far the most threatening thing that has ever happened for the future of Israel, at least as far as Israel's ability to act independently in the region and it all but takes Israel's ability to strike Iran's nuclear facilities completely off the table - at least conventionally.

Personally, I believe that unless the American public demonstrates their full support for all conservative issues by electing a Republican super majority in the House, Senate, and gives the Republicans a 47 state mandate for the White House from 2016 to 2024, we should not risk dying on any hills to preserve the viability of the conservative movement!

On the pay, it's hard to find people who you would want making multi billion dollar decisions for 174K. I couldn't live on it, even if I didn't have to live in D.C.

Once we know we can pass as much liberal and moderate legislation as we want then we know we can move forward with the conservative goals of lower taxes for the most wealthy, increasing spying on citizens and the like.

I can kind of understand the WaPo reporter's position that he doesn't want to view graphic stuff. It's kind of like how I don't want to view some PETA video about slaughterhouses, I just wanna eat my damn steak and not think about it. Or how civilians that have ever urged military action as a solution somewhere don't want to look at disturbing pictures of war.
If you think that abortion is overall a net good for society, you are probably aware on some level that there is a very nasty side of it that would turn your stomach if you had to look at it, which you can handle intellectually but not on the emotional level that pictures evoke. The intellectual level is the correct one on which to make policy decisions, of course. He's wrong to have fallen into the trap about "women's health", which is nonsense based on the statistics we know about PP. But he's not wrong on the face of it to say essentially "I'm on the same page as you about this baby-parts stuff, but viewing graphic pictures sheds no light on the topic."

I wanted our local GOP chairman to run for the congressional seat against the idiot we have in there, but he's in the same position as me. We're not wealthy enough not to work, but we sure can't continue our lifestyles on 174K.
And our wives are certainly not going to cut back to chase the dream.
Another friend would have been perfect in the senate - hell, he even looks like a senator - but he's got a successful powder coating business that brings him 400 - 500K income a year. 3 girls in college, 1 of which is doing Olympic volleyball. He would love to run, but can't afford it.

No, I am saying that benefiting Ted Cruz' fundraising isn't how I prefer to "take advantage of it." Especially because I believe that following his preferred tactics (which redound primarily to benefit his fundraising) will blow the advantage up and hurt our chances of taking advantage of it for something more substantial than his fundraising, like actually restricting abortion.
We aren't going to prevail in a shutdown fight nor are we going to eliminate PP funding while Obama is in office. So, why the fuck would I want to piss away the historical trend advantage for two things that are futile, when if I wait 13 months, I can get what I actually want?
