Quote of the Day I

What Abdul made of being shanghaied by some high-class Nordic totty to serve as her cabin mate on a stomach-churching voyage of moral exhibitionism, I cannot say. But, from personal observation, the "refugees" around me seemed to take it for granted that asylum in Europe should come with complimentary first-class travel (see picture at top right, from a German train).

There were more shrugs at Malmö, when I asked a station official about it. He told me that, on the train from Stockholm the other day, a group of "refugees" had looted the café car. The staff were too frightened to resist. "Everyone wants a quiet life," he offered by way of explanation. Sweden prides itself on accepting more "refugees" per capita than any other European country, and up to a thousand a day are registering for asylum in Malmö. I daintily stepped around that morning's intake slumbering on the concourse.

-- Mark Steyn on his rail trip to Malmo, Sweden

Quote of the Day II

Hungary's efforts to barricade itself were recently criticised as "un-European", which rather misses the point. In fact, Hungary is trying very hard to remain European. Meanwhile, a debate has broken out over whether to describe Europe's future rulers as migrants, refugees or asylum seekers. I prefer the attractive Australianism "reffo", which deserves an international audience.

Of course, some view the term as offensive or pejorative. As a journo, I disagree.

-- Tim Blair

Quote of the Day III

Every Republican tax-reform plan should be rooted in this reality: If you are going to have federal spending that is 21 percent of GDP, then you can have a.) taxes that are 21 percent of GDP; b.) deficits. There is no c.

If, on the other hand, you have a credible program for reducing spending to 17 or 18 percent of GDP, which is where taxes have been coming in, please do share it.

-- Kevin D. Williamson

Quote of the Day IV

Our attempts to download the briefs and the accompanying booklet have not borne fruit this morning - as these documents exist at the nexus of interest by historians, the press's JFK cult, and conspiracy nut jobs, the Agency server's getting hit on like the only woman at a Dungeons and Dragons convention.

-- WeaponsMan on the release of Presidential briefing documents from the early 60s

Quote of the Day V

"Now my pleasure pillows are purely for my husband."

-- Helen Mirren declaring an end to any further public nudity

The Camp of the Saints Comes To Europe

Jean Raspail's dystopian 70s novel ain't just a novel anymore. Only in this case the migrants swarming Europe are overwhelmingly young Muslim men who are not from Syria but he pretty much nailed the feckless response from European leaders.

Rather than deal with the rapey proclivities of these immigrants the authorities warn young women to avoid showing any flesh lest it provoke the newcomers or simply unapologetically suppress any news of refugee-committed rapes.

Meanwhile the German and Swedish governments are evicting and confiscating housing from their citizens in order to give them to the immigrants.

And they want to criminalize free speech online to deal with any natives who might have the temerity to object to all this.

Why it's as if the leaders of Europe have simply decided to replace their clapped out old citizenry with a new, more vibrant populace and are just trying to make the whole volk transition happen quietly and efficiently with a minimum of fuss.

Read the article and weep.

I know ace already blogged about this, but this is that silly GOPe rationale (shocking coming from NRO I know). It really cedes the entire argument to the Left. All of it. That being the presumption that there's just no feasible way to cut government.

Since that's apparently the case, what the fvck are these pundits doing? Since there's apparently no way to undo anything, pack it up and go home. Seriously. Shut the fvck up. It's pointless.

Of course, I'm all for letting taxes go through the roof. No better way to let things burn than creating an economic disaster. It's not like raising taxes won't preclude an increase in spending.

73 Quote from letter "signed" by Laureen Harper, wife of our current Prime Minister, seeking donations to the Conservative Party of Canada towards the election next month:

"Remember, Stephen is the only leader who is fighting to let taxpayers keep more of their own hard-earned income...scale back the growth of the federal government...keep the promise of a balanced federal budget...and he is the only Leader who is pledged and determined to protect Canadians from the Jihadist terrorists who have declared war on Canada."

Now, I am cynical enough to believe that Mrs. Harper did not write the entirety of that letter, but I am sure that she OK'ed the use of her name on it. I find it interesting that they use the term "Jihadist", because that pretty much implies "muslim" without coming right out and saying it, given that jihad is a tenet of islam, and only of islam. I do believe they get it, but are being very cautious about naming the enemy. And Canada just revoked the Canadian citizenship of a convicted terrorist, which is a first of its kind.

103 Who among us does not own a copy of Mirren's finest performance in the classic Caligula?
Exactly!
I was almost tempted to create a profile on The Frisky (regarding the super mom turning her kid into a tranny) and log into the comments just to poke them- "Brilliant satire! Makes the Onion seem amateur!" But I didn't. Sad thing is the piece actually reads like satire...
So, we have a dem congressman here in the Seattle area- Rick Larson. He was on our local talk radio station this morning telling the host that he wants to bring in 100K refugees from Syria. The host was steamrolled by the lib and didn't ask him the most basic of questions- where will they go and how will we verify they aren't terrorists? The congressman said, "See there are laws that you can't come to the US if you are a terrorist." The host then said hey maybe we should just bring in Christian Syrians- they don't want to kill people. The Congressman said, "But Timothy McVeigh killed so many and he was a Christian!" The retard level of the discussion hit polar orbit.
The day started off with my blood pressure skyrocketing and I was moved to write the host and tell him he was bitch slapped on the air. My state votes purely retarded assholes into Congress. Throw our governor into that mix as well. But hey- tomorrow is a new day!

122 Gonna drag this here from the last thread, just in case someone wants to run with it:

606 Free story idea for one of our authors.....

As you may know, computerized cryptography is generally based upon something that is computationally a pain-in-the-ass. For example: integer factorization, discrete logarithms, or the discrete logarithm of an elliptic curve. [Nice summary at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Computational_hardness_assumption ]

All of this is arcane and odd and all that.....but then let's mix in some fun. You may also know that "Bitcoin mining" is a thing -- you run specialized programs to come up with cryptographically significant information for some hellaciously long time and out pops a Bitcoin. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_network]

A lot of people are devoting a lot of hardware and computation power to this.

Now, let's put in a twist. What if every Bitcoin mined gave the NSA [or your other favorite boogeyman] a key to a SHA-256-encoded message? In other words, someone came up with a way to seriously encrypt data, and a security agency came up with the whole Bitcoin thing to generate keys?

Jane, as I recall Malmo has been sort of a "no-go zone" for, um, Swedes and Swedish police etc for some time.

Interesting, today had a former Swedish fighter pilot (now an airline pilot) in the museum. We did not talk about the "situation" in Europe at all, just aviation/military stuff. He described landing on highways (standard part of Swedish defense organization, their tactical aircraft all must be able to operate from roads), and other interesting things.

He was somewhat aware of the potential debacle that is the F-35, and a few more bits of info had him shaking his head.

162 I was fueling up a few days ago and I heard something that sounded like water overflowing. I looked in front of me and some guy with a dodge neon was pumping gas somewhere into his car, with his buddy at the wheel, and it was pouring out of his car and creating a puddle all around him.

I gave him a heads up but he kept dumping fuel into the hole on the side of his car. a minute or two later he started filling one gallon water jugs with the pop on pop off caps and putting them into the back of the car.

oh well.

164 45 -- Helen Mirren declaring an end to any further public nudity

Someone should have stopped her years ago. Who the hell ever wanted to see Helen Mirren nude?

Me.

Posted by: Puddleglum at September 30, 2015 12:16 AM (Tzk9k)

165 137 Helen Mirren was nude in the movie "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover" in the 1980s.

Years ago, my girlfriend at the time liked that movie so much that i ordered a dvd from Europe, because that was the only place it was available at the time, and bought a dvd player made for that region (dvd's had region codes on them for different parts of the world and dvd players have to match the region or the dvd won't play) just so she could watch that one movie. Of course these days it's on Netflix.

194 From the Fox News article on the felon sent back to prison for possessing a BB gun:

State definitions vary, with New Jersey and Rhode Island using some of the strictest language, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Those states classify all non-powder guns as firearms. Illinois and Michigan treat certain non-powder guns as firearms while Connecticut, Delaware and North Dakota list them as "dangerous weapons."

So by this definition, a rubber band gun is considered a firearm. A Nerf gun is considered a firearm. A water pistol is considered a firearm.

The thing that gets me is that there are functions for women in the military where any rational being up against them would be thinking, "oh, shit...."

It's not humpin' their own body weight in gear up a hill under fire -- it might be doing close air support for those that are. It's probably not charging over the hill at a defended position -- but if I were about to do so, I'd feel better if a female interrogator had been working-over a captive to map-out those defences.

I love them for it dearly, but when it comes to being realistic, knowing their allies, taking care of their own, and being ruthless, women have it hands-down.

240 A little over a year ago I was taking trains around France and Austria with family. One one train, from France to Saltzburg, in a first class (it ain't no big deal, just a little more in ticket cost but better seats), we were joined by a mooslem couple. Woman in a full veil. BO galore as it was hot (Europe is not into AC) and barbarians are stinky. She semi-unveiled herself as it was so hot. I was a bit alarmed but when I am tired I am "whatever" which is mostly how I am overseas. (I know. Typically I am Code Red and prepared with travel purse ready to whack-an-ahmed).

Anyway, we get to Saltzburg...one of the most beautiful and friendly (seriously, lovely people) cities in the world (and I am sad to think what these barbarians are doing there). Lo and behold the same stinky couple are staying in our hotel. I know this because, as I was coming down in elevator and door opens, they were as surprised to see me as I was them. Somehow I shut the elevator door on the guy. Oh, well. I should have yipped out a Rebel yell. My bad.

I would freak the heck out if I were in Europe with this mess going on. I wonder if the press would photograph me crying for my Mama as they do the "refugees."

We stopped to change trains in Munich and there was a weird dark vibe there (yeah, I am psychic, y'all). So I imagine it is okay there as well as stupid Vienna (did not like and did see mooslems there as well as a lesbo boutique that had a sign, "If you are a racist or homophobe you are not welcome here" and I wanted to strut my stuff).

Leave Saltzburg alone, barbarians.

So I bought a .22 carbine with optional 25 round mag.

So instead of quietly plinking away at some pesky herbivores ruining the greenery, now I can excite the neighbors with that good old .22 crack sound and really blow the little bastards away.

Or I could get one of my crossbows out or the slingshot.

I have an abundance of choices. Except for the pellet gun.

I'd expect that a gal providing CAS might actually do some types of stuff pretty damned well -- even if it went a bit sideways -- equal to or better than a guy providing CAS. The thing I like about it *least* is that Sony's gone and invented their own solid state card storage system called XQD, and of course the camera is compatible *only* with their brand/version of them. A single 32gb card is about $140, a 64gb is $300, and a 128gb is almost $700.

It's bad enough to make me want to take a second look at the 4k JVC (the cheapest camera, about $2500) and Canon standard HD ($3k) cameras I originally wanted, which use good ol' high-end but not-ridonkulously-expensive SD/Compact Flash cards. So I still have some choices to make.

Played football in a stadium that was a combo baseball/football stadium, and my knees are the poster boys as to why the NFL doesn't like playing in multi use stadiums. When you are engaged in a block and take a step from grass to sand, your knee tends to hyperextend. Both did it. Wasn't so bad back in my late teen and early 20's, but at age 50, they need to be iced after doing pretty much any activity.

307 Wasn't it Sony that took the big hit on Betamax?

People just can't get it through their peapickin little minds that proprietary stuff only works if you have a really, really big seller that the competition can't touch. Like Apple and iPods and Smart Phones. They're proprietary stuff didn't help them with their computers and they only started getting big with the iPods and Smart Phones. Even so they're starting to get some real competition.

You need a big user base and that's mostly done by promoting standards and then everyone competing to be the best.

Notice how that now that Apple's getting some competition they're changing how they're doing business?

Competition always works for the consumer.

310 Anna, you'll love that too.

For the Sony PXW-Z100, at the highest-end shooting format (called "full 4k," and which is used by the studios to shoot films), a 64gb card will hold... TEN whopping whole minutes of footage. :-) Of course if you go down to broadcast 4k, regular HD and so on, you get more time per card.

Oh, and did I mention the Sony requires there be *two* XQD cards be in the machine (one for backup) while you're shooting, *plus* a high-end SD card if you want to keep your metadata? Oh brudder.

If I do break down and get the Sony, I'll save up and get *4* 32gb or 64gb cards, and while shooting, have an assistant constantly transferring footage (from whichever 2 cards I'm not presently using) to a solid state drive, so I can keep reusing the same cards. Unless good ol' competition kicks in and the costs of the XQD cards go *way* down, no way am I going to buy very many of them.

314 Alberta, it's an anachronism but still a commonly used term. But true, "minutes" would be more accurate to describe the contents of the cards.

Posted by: qdpsteve at September 30, 2015 01:24 AM (ntObR)

315 Ten minutes??? Jayzam on a pogo-stick.

To paraphrase Roy Schneider in Jaws, you will need bigger cards.

One for backup? Uh Sony, that is called re-shooting a scene.

So Asst. Camera is like an Asst. Gunner, constantly feeding the machine.

Posted by: Anna Puma at September 30, 2015 01:24 AM (C/DS0)

316 Isn't "footage" not pretty anachronistic in terms of duration of video material? Even VCR tapes are denominated in minutes of recording time, not footage.

A whole lot of Apple's appeal is based on their walled garden staying safe.....and I just don't see that continuing indefinitely. Every security vulnerability in Apple will cause disproportionate damage because they will be hit once for the vulnerability and again for their invincibility.

321 Bitter, yup. I remember reading constantly in the early 1980s how so many "video pros" loved and had Betamax machines, the picture quality was supposedly so much better, yet VHS won the sales battle year after year for the tapes' ability to hold more footage/minutes (6 hours max vs 5 hours max, and *then* JVC released T-160 tapes which could go up to 8 hours).

A lot people don't know that an upgraded, super-expensive version of Beta came out by the mid-1980s that was used pretty much solely by videographers and, I believe, is *still* being used in a lot of your friendly local TV station's news division's cameras and editing suites to this day.

353 AOP, I admit I'm big on video. It's what I grew up with, it's what I've always enjoyed working with.

I made exactly *one* old fashioned on-actual-film movie. It was in 1986 called "Confessions of a Coke-Kicker," 6 minutes long, and it's in a (plastic) film can in my closet as we speak. Still haven't transfered it to video/YouTube but I probably shout. About a man who gets addicted to the Coke drinks from a vending machine at his friendly local community college.

I actually edited that thing on an old-fashioned, college-provided, rickety film editing machine, with a razor blade and transparent tape and all. I'm glad I had the experience... but a year later (1987) I entered the world of all-electronic video shooting, editing and mastering, and have never looked back since.

Call it my personal prejudice: I prefer video over film, especially now that the tech is out there to make video look just as good as film, complete with lighting effects and all. That's just me.

366 AOP, the auteur theory is basically that the Director is, uh, "the master of his domain." I.e., he/she decides everything, has the last word on everything creative during the filmmaking process, from conception, through scripting and storyboarding, through camera blocking, shooting, editing, mastering, even marketing. The works.

I don't think Andrew Sarris ever really specified whether his theory was specific to film or not, though of course when he wrote his theory, film was obviously the dominant mass media format.

Good grief. Never been a big fan of Peter Gabriel. He seems rather full of himself.

You know, the classic rock we listened to in the '60's and '70's was mostly the studio releases and album tracks, and we got used to those, and those tracks are the gold standard classics. Most of the "alternate takes" are alternate for good and obvious reasons.

383 Having the Taliban back in charge in Kunduz should really liven up the party scene there. I wonder if they will be doing that gay sidewalk diving thing that ISIS likes. Maybe Barack can fix it all with a troop reduction plan, or maybe with a line in the sand, of some color, somewhere.

384 Peter Gabriel was the original vocalist for Genesis, before Phil Collins took over for him. Which of course is interesting because I actually discovered Peter during "Shock the Monkey" and Phil during "You Can't Hurry Love" in the summer of 1982, and not knowing they were ever in the same band together, actually noticed that they seemed to sound alike.

Gabriel is supposedly a Christian, although like Eric Clapton, he seems to never speak of it publicly.

"Bringing It All Back Home", "Highway 61 Revisited" and "Blonde on Blonde" were recorded and released over a span of about 18 months. They are all absolutely legendary albums; every one a masterpiece. This was a burst of creativity that has not been seen before or since, at least in the history of rock music.

It took me about 30 seconds of staring at the screen in open-mouthed disbelief to order the 18 disc set.

389 Having the Taliban back in charge in Kunduz should really liven up the party scene there. I wonder if they will be doing that gay sidewalk diving thing that ISIS likes. Maybe Barack can fix it all with a troop reduction plan, or maybe with a line in the sand, of some color, somewhere.

391 Well, I was semi-serious when i suggested the 16 mm camera. But I expect the processing charges and cost of film stock would soon eat up any savings in capital cost over the digital video.

Sony had an 8mm camera that could output digital and/or RCA ...

Messed up trying to convert iMovie 2 to 3 & found out they weren't backwards compatible & barely forward compatible.

Then the external hard drive blew & I didn't want to re-bother ...

Sony seems to be big on proprietary formats. I still remember in the 1990s, they also had a "Digital 8" format, they of course just couldn't make videocameras compatible with the then cutting-edge high-quality (but not theirs) "Hi-8" format.

399 Well, time to go to bed. Looks like another road trip to Calgary is on the agenda to return the weed whacker I bought at Lowes that turned out to be a useless POS. Thought I was being smart. Give up trying to keep the old Ryobi going, buy a new middle-priced unit, and have the reliability (heh) of a new machine. Well, it had been re-boxed, and at least one piece was missing, the neck strap. Well, no biggie, I have spares here. Got it assembled, and started, and it never would run full throttle. Sounded like it was starved for fuel. Mixture screw cannot be adjusted, go figure. And the bump-feed head never did work right. I did get some weeds whacked, but it was a righteous PITA to use. Finally said, "Fuck it!" and poured the fuel back in my gas can, took it apart again, and stuffed it back in the box. Took my old Ryobi apart, fixed the problem with the clutch, and threw the recoil starter in the trash barrel. It has an electric starter on it, anyway. Connected the wires to a car battery, primed it with a squirt bottle of gasoline, and it took right off, and did a fine job. So I will buy a small AGM battery for it when I'm in town, and a new package of trimmer line, because I'm all out. And keep the old thing going for another year.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at September 30, 2015 02:35 AM (0yhH4)

401 384 Peter Gabriel was the original vocalist for Genesis, before Phil Collins took over for him.

Posted by: qdpsteve at September 30, 2015 02:20 AM (ntObR)

Peter's an odd duck.

Any -- and I mean "ANY" -- interpretation of PG's term at Genesis should center around "Supper's Ready". It's a 23-minute psychodrama on Foxtrot that is based on the fact that there are only 14 references to "supper" in the Bible, and two of them are in Revelations 19. It is a very religious testament with very symbolic lyrics.

I know he was pushing back against the 3:05 single standard of the time like some artists were, and that was a good thing ultimately, but there are a few instances at least where I think Bob had a case of Stephen King's disease, i.e., he got so huge that *no one* could ever edit him, whether his ideas were good, bad, or indifferent. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am about this stuff tomorrow night. :-)

410 I'm sure everybody here is ready to hear the hockey mom rant of the week.

The asshole at my son's school sent me a note telling me that he was "eligible for Title VII benefits" because he is a Native. That means he gets extra help with his school work, because of his skin color. She sent me a note asking for a good time to meet to discuss his options.

I sent back the message that when he registered for school, they had provided the form to fill out, but I pointed out that he is a Mayan Indian from Guatemala, so, he isn't on any official list the Feds keep of specific tribes, so he isn't one of the sainted protected class of Indians. Yes, he has brown skin and black hair and eyes. Yes, he has exactly the same DNA of supposedly "American" Indians. But no, he isn't eligible for this special program.

OTOH, I asked the boy if he could use a little extra help, and he said that yes, he was sometimes overwhelmed by the material and it couldn't hurt.

She responded, oh, yeah, that was correct. He isn't eligible. He isn't "approved."

So, here's my beef. She looked at him, determined from his skin color and his facial features that he obviously is in need of extra help to pass his classes. She basically determined that, because it is her job to do so, she could see that he obviously isn't as smart or able as the white kids, or the black kids, or the asian kids, etc. But then, he turned out to be the wrong kind of "darky," so he apparently doesn't need that sort of help after all. Suddenly he is just as smart and able as everyone else.

That's it, folks. Yet another, and in the case disgusting, example of the racism forced upon us by our own damned tax dollars and the lack of spine of our legislators. I could not give two fine shits whether this program actually helps or hurts Natives, but I can tell you that it is based on a pile of manure so deep and rotten that I'm amazed it can stand.

So, do I blast this chicken with her own words and leave nothing but a scorch mark, or do I just bite right through my tongue so my son doesn't end up a target?

Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

Ain't the the truth?

When I spoke with his teacher, and then the principal, about his troubles with some subjects, they both suggested that I either become a helicopter parent and dog his every step and move, or that I just let him fail, so he will learn the lesson. So, I've got teachers that won't teach, and principals that encourage that behavior.

421 I'm not a big fan of Bruce Springsteen, but he has one lyric, from The River, that just resonates with my being. Nevermind that I never had the exact circumstance, I had the exact experience lo these many years ago when I was young:

"But I remember us riding in my brother's car

Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir

At night on them banks I'd lie awake

And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take"

That was Kim, a hot little nothing who introduced me to sex. We were kids. Puppies. But....it was fun.

Now? 30 years later as an adult? Every night now I hold Gingy close in her sleep and I marvel at every breath she takes. Her. Gingy. Alive. Perfect.

And SHE CHOSE ME!

I'm a lucky motherfucker, oh yes I am.

Bruce is kicking dust next to his dry river and wondering why he's alone.

Me? I'm reveling in the reality of Nirvana.

Sucks to be you Bruce. Maybe try traditional values next time. They are stogy and stupid but they have one thing going for them: They work. Dedicate your life, your being and your soul to a partner, and the world becomes your oyster. Lose yourself in liberal tropes and you'll be miserable. The choice is yours, as are the potential rewards.

Not that you'll ever figure that out.

But thanks for the song, I like it.

It reminds me of an old satire called The Solution by Bertolt Brecht.

Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only

To dissolve the people
And elect another?"

448 Turned in early; stuff afoot. The BB gun article is typical newsie BS. They specifically reference "spring action" guns, then cite the Walther Compact, which is a CO2 pistol. A point-blank CO2 shot, properly placed, has proven fatal. So have pump guns, when deliberately over-pumped. The possessor was a felon.

There are air guns that will take elk or bison (OK this one is not one of them). There was a significant improvement in air gun technology about 50 years ago, even if you ignore Lewis and Clark. This ain't about Ralphie.

How's about this: instead of lawyering around with defining what makes a firearm, maybe just quickly expand the felon rules to include all projectile launchers? Maybe you could put velocity and foot-poundage in there.

Yes, there are too damned many felonies. To go along with that, there are also too many early releases and paroles. So let's not get off into those weeds.

451 Great cite Cato. Boy, that Brecht was a little prick. He's the reason the Left spells Amerika with a K (well, him and Martin Luther, who codified German). He hate-hated life in Weimar, in the US, in H'wood. So he goes "home" to Glorious Socialist Motherland, and managed to make a pest of himself there too.

I guess you have to give him credit for leaving. Dude was no fun to have around.

452 You may also have noticed they're agitating insurance to cover the second two things (first already is covered) as if they're actual medical conditions, while they argue that normal straight people with actual medical conditions should expect to get less because resources are finite.

And if we let them, they'll put people who want a snip tuck ahead of those who have cancer.

Broken clocks still tell the correct time twice per day. Even the most out-there Leftist occasionally stumbles their way into brilliance. Granted, they stumble right back out afterwards without ever having realized that they had gotten there...

Similar to how Obummer told people hit by rising insurance costs(ie. the responsible ones funding everybody else) that they'd have to budget more wisely and perhaps give up their cable subscription and vacations. He never told the entitlement junkies that perhaps they should get jobs, give up lotto and drugs, and then they'd be able to afford insurance without ACA.

Complete hypocrisy, and topsy turvy ethics.

Leftover ethics, in a nutshell:If X furthers the agenda, X = good.If X does not further the agenda, X = forbidden.

456 Interesting last night watching the local evening news covering the Planned Parenthood hearings.

And watching that ghoul testifying about video being manipulated and edited was breath-taking.

Oh.....G'morning' all.

457 Who is Helen Mirren and should I care that this person even exists?

459 Oh, yeah. That's my word of the week, by the way. Leftovers. Perfectly fits the lefties these days. Cold war surplus socialists long past their sell-by date. Unappetizing. Behind the times. Cold. Etc. Fits them to a T.

460 Except it's not anymore...lesbians get pregnant, men save sperm before their elective surgeries, gay male couples buy eggs and rent wombs.

That's a lot of overhead though. If you need to go through a lab to make kids, you'll make fewer.

461 Geez... you could pluck Venus from the sky this morning, it's that big and bright. CAC hasn't been posting too many astronomy threads lately, what with the adorable baby and the day job and all.

It's as if God had a plan for human reproduction.

463 461 I had a coworker take out her iPhone and take a picture of Venus in the dark pre-dawn morning. A light cloud layer was making it appear and disappears. She was convinced it was a UFO. Nothing I said penetrated.

464 Can't Europe find just *one* leader who will stand up and demand that the Arab countries of the ME take in all of the Arab/Muslim "refugees" ?

It seems too much to ask for any of our politicians to say the same thing, too.

Can't America find one politician that will stop the flow of ME muslim refugee's to the US?

Be lucky if swastikas are not flying over a few eurotard countries in 10 years.

467 Tim, using a search engine capable of finding pictures (have to be careful how you spell this function here because some letter combinations bother the Pixster), simply call for Helen Mirren, Caligula, and you will see the reason(s).

Cato, right you are about Brecht. My favorite piece of his was, used to be, called "The Garden," and is about, in a sneaky way, the East Berlin food riots. For some reason, the most enthusiastic Brecht scholars on campus don't know it.

On one hand, yeah, that makes sense. On the other, I don't know if you've looked around at young parents lately, but the people who get married before they have kids are very carefully planning out one or two children then getting neutered to avoid "mishaps." Even Christian conservatives and Horde. Not much different than two gay men with fat wallets or generous female family members.

With a few exceptions, the only 21st people having large untimed families are Amish, immigrants from assorted Third World cultures, and *cough* unmarried women who make their living making babies.

Ho-hum.

An editorial suggestion.

Of course, I can see it going both ways.

And in less then ten years.

The swastika fantasy is about as likely as Stormfront taking over after the failed SCOAMF regime.

Crescents, OTOH, yeah.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at September 30, 2015 06:18 AM (VPLuQ)

The way of heaven works. Man disdains it, goes his own way, and creates his own vexation. The way of heaven keeps working. Even Lao Tzu knew this about four thousand years ago. The Bible contains similar wisdom which is in some cases even older. And yet... people never learn.

Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at September 30, 2015 06:37 AM (J+mig)

474 It will be those that are using the crescent now that will be putting the swastikas up.

Not the natives.

Actual Catholics attempting to practice their faith are still having large families. My parish has a large minority of 3 plus kid families.

477 Sounds like what the tightwing said about the Jews in the 30s
Especially the part about they were after our women
Yikes !!!

478 "With a few exceptions, the only 21st people having large untimed

Amish, who are Old Order Mennonites, all other assorted Old and New Order Mennonites are the fasted growing demographic in number of Children. Coming
in a very close second were Mormons.

Both averaging well over 5 Children per family.

479 Love the Bundy wisdom.
(Sadly many of our younger friends won't understand this. Al Bundy was a character which is roughly like Jay Pritchett in Modern Family, except not successful, and with a horrible family.
A Man (plural men) is a human being of the male gender who had certain codes of conduct, such as responsibility, respect, and the ability to fix things without looking up a YouTube video.
A winner is what a man could aspire to be before Twitter became a thing.)

480 Don't worry, the Democrats and their anti-American soulmates in the Rubio-Graham-McCain wing of the GOP want us to get our jihadegees and other Islamic rapists on our shores ASAP. Meanwhile, they want our young service men committed to a war against Assad to empower ISIS.

Westerners need to take the torch to their governments. Ours is Trump.
