Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Howie Kurtz: I Award The Washington Post's "Fact Checker" Four Pinnochios (an Outright Lie) for His Awarding Carly Fiorina Three PinnochiosCorrected: I wrote that Glenn Kessler had written the "fact check" under discussion. He did not; it was Michelle Ye Hee Lee. Apologies to Mr. Kessler. ... This is a really good thing Kurtz does here. For a long time, we have suffered these intensely-partisan claimedly-neutral "fact checkers" who scan Democrat lies for ways in which they could, possibly, be claimed to be true (or ("half true," if a total lie), while vigorously dreaming up hypotheticals in which a true Republican statement can be deemed a lie (or merely "half true," if obviously true). Howard Kurtz now fact-checks Michele Ye Hee Lee's "fact-checking" about whether Carly Fiorina started off as a secretary. Here's the thing: She did. Period. Lee offers up strange reasoning to debunk this -- that she served as secretary between law school and business school -- yet she just seems to want to avoid saying that it's true She did start as a secretary. There is no question about it. Certainly there's not a "Three Pinnocios" lie contained within it. For her heroic service to the Hillary Cause, Howard Kurtz awards Michelle Ye Hee Lee four Pinnocios -- a full-on lie with no redeeming truth in it. We need more of this. We need someone, Fox I guess being the obvious candidate, to fact-check the fact-checkers as a regular thing, in maybe twice-a-week columns.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Here's one I'd like to see relentlessly fact-checked (this morning's NYT):
On Sunday, in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," Mrs. Fiorina insisted that the scene in the video she had described "absolutely does exist," but offered no evidence to back up her contention. I suppose the campaign ad featuring that scene is not evidence that that scene exists. Posted by: Bandersnatch, Opus/Bill the Cat 2016 at September 28, 2015 02:21 PM (JtwS4) 31

Gah! Right? I have seen several variants on "people who have seen the videos say that the scene Ms. Fiorina describes is not in them". Like, do they have a news machine in your newsroom? Is it possible to look up news in your newsroom and see where she's put the scene in the news? "People say it's not there" is not news, it's allowing yourself to not to the work and find out for your job as a news presenter. I'm mixed about this. I've got a friend who is now president of a decent size company (several billion in revenue, over 2500 employees). He was handed the keys by his daddy, who used to run the company, was it's co-founder, still owns 50% of the stock, etc. He grew up with a silver spoon, got accepted to whatever school he wanted (and not because of his grades), etc. Well, during high school and college this kid did have some random jobs flipping burgers and working as an office bitch and whatnot. So could he claim to have "started out" as a burger flipper? Technically, yeah, it was one of his first jobs. But it's complete horse shit to act like that's how he really started out and that he worked his way up to the top. It's pretty much the same with Carly. She road a lot of coat tails and privilege to end up at the top of HP, and then she all but burned that motherfucker to the ground.

If you want to get in to the back story and whatnot, then write an opinion piece. Don't call it a "fact checking piece" Otherwise you end up with the ludicrous "mostly false" to the claim that "she started as a secretary" which is entirely true. I am an active investor/trader. I hear the stories about how bad Carly was as CEO of HP and I get Mr. Spock eyebrows.
I owned HP stock when she was CEO and I did very well. I shorted HP stock when she was sent packing and I did even better. The first was because of the actions she took buying Compaq, etc. The second is because I short stocks almost automatically when CEO's exit controversially. My bottom line - literally - is all I know about how good of a CEO she was and it tells me that she wasn't near the CEO she was portrayed to be. HP was on the skids before she took over. speaking of the leftists who deny those PP videos that Carly had been hammering them about, I watched that video of Crazy Nancy and Holy Leaping Lizards Batman! That woman, and I use that term lightly, is out of her last brain cell for sure! She says right in the video she hasn't seen the PP vids yet claims they are all lies. How the f@$k does that woman even remember to breathe as immensely ignorant as she proves right there in that video??
I hold onto the bleak opinion that with the advance of such outrageous stupidity and ignorance as the leftists and islamists prove every single day that humankind will be fortunate to even be around in about 200 years. To admit this would implicate complicity. To admit this would indicate that black market baby murder-for-sale is an acceptable thing. So the thing must be called a lie. It simply isn't true. You shorted HP stock, an example that her leadership was bad even to the lay public, and this is your defense of her being an awesome CEO? This is like the worst defense and also best attack of her I've seen yet. Carly took HP's historical business/product line, printers, for which they were world leaders and innovators, and which was also a high-margin business, and essentially traded it to get into the very low-margin and highly-competitive desktop computer market. She destroyed half the wealth of the company, and even worse, killed HPs primary business which it still hasn't built back up to previous levels. And she did this against the advice of everybody. Here's a simple question for Carly lovers. Since being unceremoniously fired from HP, what has she done? She cashed out to the tune of 100 million bucks. So with her great business acumen and 100 million dollar war chest, can we get a list of all her other successful business ventures? Oh that's right, there aren't any. All she's had is a failed political career since then. Can get elected and can't manage to land a permanent gig on a political talk show. Carly is good at debates I'll grant you that. The question is, was Carly treated differently in her stint as a "secretary" from some other woman who wasn't there part time who hadn't graduated from a prestigious college and who's parents were of "the right kind"?
I guessing, NO. But then Carly is the great hope for everyone here who can't stand Trump or how he's winning and whether he might/could win. Trouble is, Carly real positions are more liberal than Trump's supposed positions (or equal to some of his actual liberal ones) and she's been very liberal in how she campaigns (war on women, distortions about immigration) and who's only qualification as a leader comes from 2 problematic stints at a couple of failed companies. (and the big tell is, if she was so good why hasn't she gotten other offers since HP?) But now I'll go away so you all can dis and dismiss all that. It's pretty funny to listen to them say how conservative he was and how awesome conservatives are doing And according to the media, only John Boehner can prevent Republican obliteration. Nobody ever stops to question why the Dems can't ever cave. I think their fear is that they need the Federal gratis more than conservatives do, and if the spigot shuts off, they could be looking at riots against them. Hell if I know. If we're putting personalities and electability aside, I actually like Rand Paul quite a bit. But he comes across as kind of a pussy and obviously he doesn't have a chance. He's the only one I would trust to seriously gut the government though. Cruz, as much as I want to like him, I don't trust him. His contrived mini-speeches are just so fake. I feel like I'm being marketed. Carson, that guy is just too nice. Who knows, he might be the right guy, but he seems like he would just do whatever other people tell him to, like a reed in the wind with few convictions of his own. Bush and Rubio, ROFL I hate to say it but Trump actually kind of looks like the best out of everybody up there on the stage. I think he is a fake conservative, or at least not our kind of conservative. But maybe he's real enough to be a heck of a lot better than the alternative. I kind of figure Trump will go all the way either way though. Either be really good or really awful. She was. But this is costing her with the Elite, and I suspect it would be easier for her to go the other way and be pro-choice. It's like when Trump doubled down on Immigration. I would wager he was in favor of amnesty up until he made an off the cuff comment about immigrants being criminals. Then he lost a lot of business deals. But he doubled down, and I'm fairly certain he's ready to build the wall sheerly out of spite. The Ayatollah (that's the name given only to those muzzies who've reached the coveted 'Masters' level of goat stoinking) of Iran (whatever the hell his name is) says the the U.S. is the cause of terrorism in the world.
So let me get this straight: The U.S. causes muzzies to commit large scale murder, mainly of other muzzies (and other people). This will take a while I think, to connect these dots. Posted by: Semper In Stercus at September 28, 2015 03:27 PM (BZAd3) 240

As someone pointed out about Trump, he's the guy who is rich but still has some normal guy traits and can relate to other income groups. You know what would help Fiorina? She should come out and say: "I had to layoff people to save the company. On the other hand, I was wrong on replacing American workers with cheap foreign labor.
Now maybe it's all posturing on both their parts, but the other guys aren't even posturing on anything (except Carson, who picked the low-hanging fruit of saying a Muslim would be an awful president). If Carly spends her time in front of a microphone agitating against Planned Parenthood, I think that's useful. Marco Rubio states he is a 100% pure, no exceptions, kind of guy, but I have no expectation he'd try to shame his own party to take this fight on the way Fiorina has done here. Many states have legislatures (elected by actual citizens) who have placed restrictions on abortions. If the issue were such a loser, the MSM wouldn't be scrambling to cover up for PP. A distraction is when a baby has its brain removed for sale while its heart is beating. You always have the option to go Punisher on their asses. I am totally against abortion, 100%, and totally agree these videos and the actions of planned parenthood are despicable in every way. But, at the same time, I feel like people's rhetoric is a tad hypocritical. Some examples. - Defend shipping jobs to China, the abortion capital of the world, that's capitalism, while denouncing abortion here at home. - On the world stage some of our allies in the Middle East are leading the cause against abortion. For example the doha institute for family studies and development. So we'll disparage them as terrorist-sympathizing dogs all the while behind-the-scenes they are doing a hell of a lot more to oppose abortion than we are. - Use very strong rhetoric here at home about abortion (like the quote above) but then act in a manner that seems to suggest otherwise. Tell me, if there was a fucking child sex slavery ring operating down the street, and it was acting with impunity and support from the government, would you have the guts to take matters into your own hands? Liberals are correct to point out that convervatives often use very extreme language that suggests something as vile as this is literally taking place. And if something that vile truly is taking place, why aren't we taking matters into our own hands? Long story short, I don't think people really believe what they are saying or they would. Also Trump does not say his plan is single payer or even describes it as such.
He says that the government will have to pay for some people to be covered and the rest will be private with more choices. > We are agitating within the system to stop this. That's how it is supposed to be done. The abolitionists didn't arm slaves. That doesn't make them fakers.
Well why didn't they? At what point is it time to go revolutionary? If the answer is only that it's unwinnable, then that supports my original point about it being a loser subject. Clearly we tolerate things within our society that we may not agree with - a lot of things. Either abortion is something we can tolerate, even if we disagree with it, or not. I don't see a lot of middle ground. Some things you vote for, other things you shoot for. If you're willing to just vote for it, then that means you're willing to tolerate the outcome of the election. There are some things for which I would not tolerate the outcome of an election and would totally be willing to die on the hill for. Abortion isn't one of them. I will vote NO though. massive spiritual revival that literally changes the hearts and minds of the people from one way of thinking to another way of thinking, then this ship is already sunk. They give in to despair and stoop to murder as a remedy. Posted by: typo dynamofo at September 28, 2015 04:22 PM (i7JE3) 358

Well hell; I practiced law for almost 40 years. But I started as a paper delivery boy in a small town in Washington state, then I was a Fuller Brush catalog boy in San Diego etc. I picked and sold oranges for a while. I was a teacher's aide and a playground recreation leader; summer camp counselor for a few years. I was even an adjunct professor of law for a while (teaching real property to night school law students) so I guess I've got some "Obama cred" on my resume.
But my favorite pre law school job was as Hikemaster for a YMCA Summer camp in the San Diego Mountains. If I could get my hands on that twit "fact checker" for the WaPo, I'd run her up Cuyamaca Peak so fast her brains would fall out. The reality is that folks of a certain age--I'm in my early 70's, Ms. Fiorina is in her early 50's, had a lot of different jobs in their school and early career years. And Ms. Fiorina sure as heck was a secretary at some point before she headed off to business school. It could be that the young twit at the "WaPo Fact Checking School of Bullshit" never had a job until Mommy dropped her off at the WaPo doorstep. These days the little darlings get through college with no real world experience of any kind, and as Dean Wurmer said, "Fat dumb and stupid is no way to go through life."
