PPPs newest national poll finds Donald Trump continuing to grow his lead over the GOP field.

Trump is at 29%, 15% for Ben Carson, 9% for Jeb Bush, 8% for Carly Fiorina, 7% for Marco Rubio, 6% each for Ted Cruz and John Kasich, and 5% each for Mike Huckabee and Scott Walker. And in the Buckeye State. Buckeye? Cornhuskers maybe:

According to a new Loras College poll in Iowa released Tuesday Donald Trump still holds the top spot with 25 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers. Carson takes second with 18 percent and Bush follows at 10 percent.

The three candidates are the only ones with double-digit support, Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. Scott Walker round out the top five with 7 percent and 6 percent respectively.

4 So I see that the headlines on several of the 'news' sites are pumping Redford's new movie with free advertising.

He hasn't made an even half entertaining movie in generations so my guess is; probably not gonna help.

BTW - there was a small quip on one of the 'news' sites yesterday that mentioned that Redford doesn't watch his own movies. Big club that one.

7 Hillary is very much done. Its one thing for us to talk smack about her but quite another for progressives to laugh aloud at *our* jokes concerning her, like I'm seeing in deep blue NYS. I think Bernie is going to be the nominee, barring events.

20 Some people think Jeb doesn't even really want to be running for president, but it's kind of a noblesse oblige thing.

Like, the GOP Establishment met with him in some oak-paneled room on a private estate and, while sipping snifters of cognac, said, "John Ellis, if not you, it's possible a whackobird like that dreadful Ted Cruz, or that hillbilly Scott Walker might get the nomsie-womsie. And that just won't do."

40 OK, in fairness, "stared down" could mean that the JEF was standing on or near aglacier and was looking downhill - "down" being ambiguous. However, why the direction of his stare should appear in a headline is beyond me. Or why he should "stare" rather than "look" or "watch". But then, it was written by a guy who needed four years of college to learn who, what, when, where, and how.

Meanwhile, over at polyamory advocacy sex blog The Federalist, Brandon "Metro" Morse is quite upset that someone said his favorite video game character is a transsexual:

"Samus is 100 percent a strong, fierce woman. She wasn't once a man who decided to become a woman. No, that would take away from Samus's feminine strength. She's not bogged down by questions about her identity. Samus knows who she is. She's confident in it. She's one of the greatest representations of pure girl power."

47 Economics and Good Intentions - - a large mass of good words, finely crafted; a most excellent piece of work. Except for one tiny little question. What happens when there is no other place to run to, to escape the conditions our good intentions have created for us? What then? We endure, like it says in the Declaration of Independence :

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. . . "

There is great risk in attacking the King. The outcome is not certain. What follows could be worse than the conditions which provoked the rebellion.

So the question which confronts us is 'Where is the point where the King has gone too far? When is the burden intolerable? When does the majority say, no more, no further, it ends here.'

We aren't there yet, apparently.

Huh... so like right now, only without failure theater? I'm in.

Seriously, this is what the chattering class does not get, and I don't get why- Conservatives are not "Discard[ing] their Principles." Conservatives are every bit as conservative as they ever have been. More so, in many cases.

The issue is the Republican Party does not represent Conservative values, yet portrays itself as the home for Conservatives. Then along comes Trump. We know he's not particularly conservative. He is, however, saying all the right things (and with a fluency which makes be believe that this isn't just talking points). If I have to pick someone who isn't going to represent me, I can at least pick one who is a) entertaining and b) at least *saying* he'll represent me.

Donald Trump is the best thing to happen to the Republican Party since Ronald Reagan. Not that the two are necessarily alike in any way, but where Reagan was a "shining city on a hill," Trump is a bright, shiny mirror, showing the DOPe exactly how ugly they've become.

They can choose to look at it and do something about it, or ignore it and continue not getting asked to the prom.

Refined products have a much higher profit margin than crude.
And where is there the demand for American crude? Our region is awash in crude from Mexico, Canada, Venezuela. Are we going to export our crude so we then have to import more?

Makes very little sense.

PRESIDENT OBAMA'S PECULIARITY
A world exclusive.

This week I am filing a world exclusive! Remember you read it here first!!

For years I have maintained a team of investigators sedulously trailing our president. They have studied pictures of him. They have inquired of photographers and camera crews who employ both still and video cameras to cover the President. My investigators have interviewed White House journalists, occasionally White House employees, and, of course, White House visitors even tourists. All have been asked the same question: "Have you ever seen the President's shadow?"

Every interviewee who would answer the question has confirmed my suspicion. They have not seen President Barack Obama's shadow. The reason for this curious phenomenon is that he casts no shadow. Despite all the power at his command he roams the world leaving no shadow. The sun may shine down upon him. A wall of floodlights may illuminate him. Yet beyond his neat and well-tailored physique he leaves no shadow, no silhouette, nothing. Zilch, as they say. He is that insubstantial. He is a community organizer. He is not a president...

145 Catch 22.

You have a religious belief, and you work as a government employee. The government requires you to violate your religious belief, yet the government is prohibited from 'establishing a religion'.

You find yourself in court where you are ordered to violate your religious belief and are jailed for violating the law, and refusing to obey the order of the judge.

You claim you are being jailed for your religious belief. The judge claims you are being jailed for contempt of court. In effect, you are a political prisoner, held without trial, without bail, for practicing your religion.

BUSH VS. TRUMP: A REVEALING CLUE
Can someone be trusted to lead if allows himself to be bullied?

By Thomas Sowell -- 9.1.15

*clap*

Even those of us who are not supporters of either Donald Trump or Jeb Bush can learn something by comparing how each of these men handled people who tried to disrupt their question-and-answer period after a speech.

After Bush's speech, hecklers from a group called "Black Lives Matter" caused Bush to simply leave the scene. When Trump opened his question-and-answer period by pointing to someone in the audience who had a question, a Hispanic immigration activist who had not been called on simply stood up and started haranguing.

Trump told the activist to sit down because someone else had been called on. But the harangue continued, until a security guard escorted the disrupter out of the room. And Jeb Bush later criticized Trump for having the disrupter removed!

What kind of president would someone make who caves in to those who act as if what they want automatically overrides other people's rights -- that the rules don't apply to them?

In the case if marriage licenses, there is a government monopoly. Now a person could go to another county in the same state to get the liscense But some licenses can only be issued byt he county you live in

When someone says Public Life, I assume (apparently incorrectly) that they are referring to Government Office/Employment.

I am a firm believer in private employment, and being able to write your own mission statement/ job description, etc.

And if, as some have said, this Clerk is NOT the single source of Marriage Licenses for applicants, then there is a stronger case for allowing her position to be accepted.

Wall Drug has signs *everywhere*.

When 'they' built the interstate, the proprietor notice all the traffic on the highway, not going through town. He put up signs on the freeway which increased his business. So he put up more signs, more signs, and more signs, with a rebel yell he shouted 'more, more, more'.

257 Issuing a marriage license for gays is not a sin. It is a secular license, for one.

Secondly, the person issuing a piece of paper is not the one sinning in the eyes of God.

Romans 1 29-32
They have become filled with every kind of wickedness...they invent ways of doing evil [see sodomite marriage] ...Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these things, but also approve of those who practice them.

260 I believe this to be incorrect.

I think you'd be wrong. Jesus had some words for people who went along or tried to get along with people engaged in sin. Read the letters to the churches in Revelation.

268 In a lot of states, CCW is a right. As is gay marriage now.

You have a right to religion, I have a right to gay marriage (not that I want to get gay married, that's not the point). My hand in rights poker beats the gov't official's hand.

You let the drones get away with issuing things as they want, and you'll get New Jersey and their pistol permit farce. Or the big cities CCW issuing guidelines.

Not everyone gets to be a winner, and I'll always prefer to err on the citizen's rights over a citizen working in a governmental capacity.

There is nothing in the Constitution about the right to birth control either. Justice Douglas made it up out of "penumbras" emanating out of the right to privacy in the 1960s. The Bill of Rights does NOT mention a right to privacy

its not written in the constitution

now I agree gay activists really want to pubish her for her beliefs, and she is playing along by making herslef a martyr

________

I don't know. I get what you're saying, but it can be taken to extremes. Can a Muslim be a county clerk or state bureaucrat or whoever it is that issues liquor licenses? Can a Catholic work in a place that sells birth control? Can a Mormon work anywhere that sells coffee? These examples are analogous only in that the duties of each job should come as no surprise to the respective workers. If there's a conflict, they can simply not work there.

Points for acting according to conscience, but points taken away for grandstanding, if that's what she did. Again, I don't know.
