23 I saw an ad on TV that perfectly encapsulated the Left's view of the modern American male. The ad was for Angie's list, and it featured a whiny, metrosexual, ninny-of-a-man who didn't want to clean his gutters because it was icky and he was scared of ladders. Let me repeat: not because he was too busy, but it was GROSS and SCARY.

Being a man used to mean doing unpleasant things without whining or making a fuss. Now being a man apparently means getting your wife to hire a contractor to do everything around the house.

Luckily I know this caricature of a man exists mainly in the suburbs of blue state-blue cities.

52 Obama's legacy:

Foreign spy services, especially in China and Russia, are aggressively aggregating and cross-indexing hacked U.S. computer databases --- including security clearance applications, airline records and medical insurance forms --- to identify U.S. intelligence officers and agents, U.S. officials said.

At least one clandestine network of American engineers and scientists who provide technical assistance to U.S. undercover operatives and agents overseas has been compromised as a result, according to two U.S. officials.

53 The New York Giant's owner John Mara is in the Courtroom with Brady and Goodell, having been told to appear by Judge Berman. Also Jay Feely is there with Brady's team. Weirdness. Speculation that the Judge wants Mara to try to force a settlement on one or both parties. Seems odd to have another Owner involved, obviously other teams benefit from Brady being benched. Maybe he's a great negotiator/arbitrator or something.

55
Saw "No Escape" this weekend.

Wow! What a great thriller. Very, very intense.

Great acting. Great script. Excellent direction.

The plot involves an American family, whose father has just taken a new job in an unnamed SE Asian country for an international company and is almost immediately caught up in a violent revolution.

The revolutionaries are executing citizens and foreigners in the street. He needs to get his family to safety.

The action stays grounded in reality and it makes it that much more intense. This guy isn't a superhero. He just an engineer figuring the best options in a lousy situation as the movie goes along.

Seriously, this is the best action movie so far this year.

The bad reviews it's been getting have come from social justice wankers who have their garters in a wad because violent 4th world revolutionaries never ever are violent and would never ever kill foreign citizens apparently.

Ignore the bad reviews and go for an excellent time at the movies.

Check it out.

From the Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angie%27s_List

Angie's List has been criticized for the fundamental contradiction between its claimed philosophy ("Companies can't pay to be on Angie's List") and the conflict of interest caused by reliance on advertising revenue for 70% of cash flow.Answering a complaint from a user, David Segal found that when subscribers post a negative review of a company to Angie's List, a staff member discusses it with them in an attempt to rectify the situation. If the company is one that advertises with Angie's List, the negative review will be removed and then the customer must give an A or B grade. The company's effort to keep advertisers happy reveals their conflict of interest.

92 Radieschen, wo wirst do wohnen?

I had already found a flat in Frankfurt when the very pregnant Mrs. Bander moved over. She was displeased with it on several levels, including being a fifth floor walkup. (I mentioned she was pregnant, right?)

We had some Irish friends over and she was complaining about my poor choice -- it was actually a most cromulent choice, an Altbau in Sachsenhausen -- and she said "and it doesn't even have any closets!"

The Irish couple said, "what's a closet?"

Freising, in der nahe Muenchen. We will get a second Schrank before all my crap arrives.

An Altbau would be awesome, but the Munich area has the highest demand for flats in Germany these days so we took the first decently priced 3-room we found. All new wood floors, though, and a built-in bench for eating.

98 I think the #1 reason people have turned on illegal immigration is the actions of immigrants, something the Hanson paper doesn't touch on very much. There just have been too many rapes, molestations, muders, thefts, on and on. Yes, that's only a small percentage of the illegals here, but that's what is making people very upset.

Places like Norway, something like 10% of girls under 18 have been raped or molested by "immigrants." People are getting plenty angry about this, and even more angry when they're told they are racist for noticing.

100 Thank you for this picture. I like it and it has become the desktop background for a while. For me it is a soothing country scene that reminds me of my midwestern upbringing.
