NYTs Asks 75 High Ranking Democratic Insiders About Hillary; They're Officially Getting Ready to Dump Grandmonster Hillary

Well I don't know about that but they are actually panicky.

Even ultra-spinning in-the-bag hack Greg Sargent at the Washington Post's Plum Line (note that no conservatives get their own political column) admitted that this makes it official: The Democrats are actually panicking.

Biden is now the guy they have their hopes pinned on.

If you can believe that.

Open Thread.

You all be nice to each other! Lot of people seem to really dig the friendlier, less angry vibe; let's keep that going and see how it all shakes out.

8 Also, I, uh -- Biden?

Really?

Isn't that kind of awkward?

What with the racially insensitive comments about Indians, and the whole stealing a British pols' speech about his life story and repeating it as his own, and the whole... well, Biden is not a very smart man.

Lizzie Warren will have to lead the braves with Cory Booker or that Castro fellow who spoke at the last Dem Convention?

48 Biden would actually be a good counter to Trump in terms of bluster and public perception in verbal encounters.

Recall the Biden vs Paul Ryan debate. Ryan easily won on content and "being more technically correct". But Biden's smirks, chuckles and full on lies and smarmy confidence easily won him the debate in the general public's eyes.

If he comes out with Liz Warren right out of the gate as VP, along with Obama's blessing (which comes with the backing of the Obama election machinery)... That campaign will be no joke at all.

68 There are smart people, and stupid people.

There are smart people who surround themselves with smart people, and sometimes that works brilliantly, and sometimes it turns into Game of Thrones.

There are smart people who surround themselves with lesser minions, and sometimes that works well, and sometimes it produces Fascist Italy.

There are dumb people who surround themselves with smart people, and that surprisingly often works out really well - it's the old B-students work for C-students and A-students teach thing.

There are dumb people who surround themselves with dumb people, and you get the Obama Administration.

My guess is that Biden is no smarter than Obama, but he has less ego and more self-reflection, and so he's more likely to pick a competent bunch of minions.

Ergo, Biden may not be what we want, but if he's crammed down our throats he won't fuck up like the current scumbag.

He knows his way around Washington, having been there for half a century or whatever. He's not the total epic disaster that people are chuckling about, especially if paired with Warren as VP.

Democrats are sure they have this won, they just aren't sure who the name they will vote for is going to be yet. They weren't for Hillary because she's so great. They were for her because she looked like the nominee.

Whoever it is, they will back, vote for, and cheer the name of even if its ol' paste eater. And they'll yell the hate at the Republican regardless of who it is. I guess that makes life simpler - no thought required - but really?

No, a Biden presidency would be a glorious, catastrophe. It would be a comedy of errors. It would be a farce. a screwball comedy. It could only end with Slim Pickens waving his hat in the air howling at the ruskies.

So all those executive orders and statements and agency changes and all that which President Obama gets away with because to oppose him is raciss, Biden cannot.

263 Yeah Biden is a shotgun liar in debates. he spews so much BS that you cannot possibly respond to it all or refute it or that's all you end up doing and he totally controls the entire thing. So tons of it slips through and sounds great because he can come up with plausible stupidity.

I would say the response to this is not to engage him at all, just to pretend he's not there, with maybe if you can do it a small slam on his paste eating stupidity, and just push your point like he's beneath you and meaningless.

431 "The reason Trump is rocking is because of immigration."

I suspect also the fact that he is openly contemptuous of the snooze media.

The journalistas preen and pose and strut as though they enjoyed the public esteem of rock stars or sports heroes. Whereas in reality they regularly poll at or below the level of trust enjoyed by used car salesmen.

"Could be a great wedge issue for the Black folk. They're hardest hit."

That'll work well in the entirely hypothetical case of an anti-immigration liberal Democrat *. Because American blacks are never, ever going to vote in any meaningful numbers for anyone other than a liberal Democrat.

Blacks might NOT show up to vote, which has happened in the past, but if they do show up to vote, they'll pull the lever for a straight-ticket Democratic slate. That's the way it has consistently worked for half a century, and that's the way it will work for the next half-century. It's deeply self-reinforcing. The black churches in particular will never be pulled away from Democratic orthodoxies.

(* Bernie Sanders has said some skeptical things about immigration and economics, but he's going to have to wind his neck in on that if he is to have any hope of coming near the Democratic nomination. Full throttle immigration has become an article of faith for too many in that party.)

448 Joe-Joe Biden may be a dumb as a box of rocks, but he is not an Anti-American communist.

How Dumb?

People go to the US Senate poor, and after a term or two, they are multi-millionaires. Good things just "happen for them." Ask Harry Reid.

Joe Biden was in the Senate for 36 years. He had a Zero net worth (actual estimated net worth* of $-12,492 in 2006).

Joe is that stupid. He cannot make money when his "friends" are handing it out.

I'm not so sure he knows *that* much dirt, and I'm not terribly sure he would be able to Trump his way through their effort.

It would be a spectacular mess of course. Much like this campaign season so far.

I still think something will derail him before next year, but if he actually does get to Nov. 2016 as the GOP candidate, I think the Party of DC will just formalize their arrangement and make sure the public's votes get lost in so many car trunks.

Jim who??

You just answered your own question. Trump knows how to play the Leftard Media like Guitar Hero. And since the Leftard Media are whores for sound bites and are so very busy making sure that no one notices the Democrats' nomination process is anything but democratic, Trump gets lots of airtime. It also helps that Trump shows some life in front of a TV camera unlike 3/4 of the GOP candidates. The GOPe is also not helping themselves by trying to dump Trump in such an obvious fashion that even the LIV crowd can see it. The Leftard Media loves the infighting of course, with Trump using the occasion to point out that his GOPe rivals are bought and sold wimps who would die if they had to give an actual personal answer to any question.

590 Ace, if you're still here, I want to apologize for my complaint last night about WeirdDave's disappearing posts. I wasn't firing on all cylinders, and I was taking the comment I was arguing against in isolation rather than as part of a greater whole including the post itself. Once I'd slept on it, I understood everything.

Putting up a post explaining why the previous post was deleted would only empower the discussion to pick right back up, when you and/or the deleting coblogger wants it ended.

And a little more raucousness is allowed during the week because you guys have more freedom to police the comments, but on weekends you don't want to have to monitor everything like that. That's when you rest.

So, I get it. I'm sorry. I take back everything I said on the subject last night except for how awesome you and Dave are. That's still true.

The internet certainly seems to have empowered the women who make porn. In the olden days, it was men who owned the magazines and made the stag films, and they hired women to take off their clothes and pose. They didn't have much rights to their work other than getting paid. And they probably got swindled sometimes.

Today there are tons of women who run their own websites. They present themselves however they want and are their own bosses, and have loyal followings of fans.

Or so I'm told. By friends.

These are the fuckers who consistently screw the middle class, destroy the economy, and overburden us with rules/laws/etc. with the understanding that they will acquire more standing (capital) so that they can consistently do it in the years to come.

The other thing that glares you in the face is that the NYT's can waltz right into one of these summer outings and question the proletariat with impunity...likely because they have a couple assholes sitting at the table next to Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
