Whatever we do, guys, we have to make sure this guy stays in the Speaker's chair. There's just no one else who can give us this Boehner-level of excellence in leadership and results.
What would we do without such a Giant in the speaker's chair? A political culture produces such an ubermensch but once ever 60 or 80 years. We'd be insane to demote him in favor of any other Republican. Sorry, I Baited: I actually was attempting to bait the Establishment people on Twitter who got a bit sneery about demoting Boehner last time, and was not thinking of anyone on this site. However, there are what I'd call "Establishment Types" on the site here, and they could, very reasonably, take this post as insulting towards themselves (and thus inviting an insult in return). And being worried about being banned, they then might not take the legitimate opportunity to insult me back, given that I could just be a dick and ban them. Which is a totally unfair situation -- I insult you, then you have to hold your own fire for fear of what I might do if you insult me back. So I have removed the personally-baiting part of this post, and I apologize for that. I'm just getting used to the new rules myself; there is going to be a period of adjustment. Sorry if I insulted you. I can only say I actually didn't intend to insult anyone here, but rather some people on Twitter, but you'd be perfectly right to take it as an insult against you if you supported Boehner in January. I guarantee you Cruz knew about this comment hours after it was made (probably quicker). I, also, guarantee that the only reason The Daily Caller has the story is because Cruz suggested to those who informed his campaign that they should offer the tip.

I really think there is something up with the "establishment" republicans. They seem not interested in serving their constituents. As I look at our President and at the vast majority of our Congresspeople I see very little dignity. (and FTR, I don't see any dignity in Trump either, although I see a man who's direct about a number of issues .) I see grasping and greedy self interested politicians much more interested in their self aggrandizement, power and perks than in the well being of the country and certainly no interest in the opinions of most of the people who elected them. It is just a sad spectacle to see the Speaker of the House behave in such a fashion, and I'm not even sure whether Cruz-many of whose opinions I agree with-would be able to respond in anymore dignified fashion.

Sometimes people just don't like each other. Sometimes they think that the tactics someone else employs to advance his career are distasteful and counterproductive to the others in the party. It could be any of those things or none of them.
I just don't get why we're supposed to automatically think poorly of one politician because he doesn't like another politician, personally. So long as both of them vote my way more often than not, that's all I care about their like or dislike of each other.
If you have a beef with Speaker Boehner, that's fine. But, I would hope it would be on a firmer footing than "he said a mean word about Sen. Cruz."

With Jeb, not only does he routinely tell the base to go f#ck themselves with delight, he's got so much baggage and is such a piss poor candidate that to say he's electable (all because he has a Hispanic wife) is beyond stupid.

Yet, there are important differences. One, John Boehner is genuinely liked and respected in his district and has excellent constituent services, and has had both of those advantages for 25 years, now. Cantor had nearly completely lost touch with his district.
Two, nobody of any seriousness in Butler County, Ohio has ever even thought of running against him. For good or for ill, Ohio Republicans are very loyal to the idea of "waiting one's turn" and not shitting where they eat. Consequently, the only people seeking to run against him are crackpot losers and cranks. Dave Brat is neither of those things.
At the Speaker level, he's presided over repeated winning elections for his members and does an excellent job raising money for their campaigns. A potential challenger for the Speaker's chair would have match that record, and go to 11 beyond it, to justify a change. Who can offer that in the current leadership? Nobody or we would have seen it by now. And not being in the elected leadership means, by definition, that a member can't offer that.

I'm actually considering voting for Trump but realistically, every poll shows him performing the worst against any Democrat.
It's not like Trump's position on illegal immigration is not well known, it's pretty cut and dry and has been thrown through an endless media loop.
If there was a big majority that agreed with Trump, shouldn't it be showing up in the polls by now?
Not saying he's unelectable, but I'd at least like some intellectual honesty that we could be looking down the barrel of a complete electoral wipeout all to stick a middle finger up at Boehner. Seems pretty expensive if that's the main goal.

Boehner has been the worst Speaker in my memory, never before has the rank and file so despised a Speaker of the House.
Please list one real victory the man has had despite having some of the biggest majorities in GOP history. And all of that was in response to Obama, it certainly wasn't Boehner's agenda.
Cantor obviously had a lot of juice and clout at one time or he wouldn't have been in the position he was, and then poof, overnight it was gone in a humiliating defeat.
Boehner is VERY VERY vulnerable to losing his job.

Eh, it's really not a mystery. ace is fundamentally a very nice and generous guy at it is reflected in this place.
He's given us space to destroy without a lot of rules and we often stretch the boundaries and then he wraps us on the nose with a newspaper after he can't take it anymore because a lot of people go away or stop commenting because the nastiness goes to 11. And then he feels bad about it because nice guy.

But elections are held in the real world and nobody in the Republican caucus currently has anywhere near the amount of juice necessary to defeat him. So, do conservatives keep hammering on about something that is extremely unlikely to change any time soon, and that 95% of the American public could give a shit about, like who is Speaker of the House this week, or do we work to get the White House next year and make some real changes, finally?

They said WTF, so they did three more very detailed internal polls of three battleground states, including Ohio.
Again, Trump's support among minorities was historic, something they've never seen, ever, for a GOP contender.
Take that for what it's worth. But that's what informs my view of it. The guy went from 20% favs in GOP to over 50% in one month.
As Monmouth pollster said, he, literally, has never even heard of such a change.
