My guess is he is crazy as a loon, and was allowed to stay on because he is black and no one wanted to be accused of racism.
Sometimes black people are crazy and murderous, we must be able to treat them like anyone else who is crazy and dangerous--and get rid of them.
This woman was likely a victim of PC.
The killer being black is a fact, but it isn't reason she was killed, it is the reason he wasn't fired and maybe arrested before a crazy man (of any race) killed someone.
This is what the intimidation of "black lives matter" has wrought.
It must stop being racist to allow blacks to act crazy because we are more afraid of being called racists than protecting our selves.
And him. Wouldn't it be better to get the guy some help than allow his mental illness to go this far? At some point he probably was afraid he would hurt someone, and people he worked with were unable to figure out how to help someone who is black back away from violent mental illness.

For sure there are many nuances to a tragedy like this but one thing that can't be ignored is the effect of the race-baiters and the ginning up of the permanently race aggrieved. Their messaging is that any response to perceived racism, up to and including murder, is an a-ok and appropriate response.
People's awareness of this obvious truth is hidden in the multitude of comments you see on the Internet where people write "If Obama had a..." which is the obvious reference to Obama's race baiting over Treyvon Martin. No less than Obama himself, and Eric Holder, have fomented unrest and the bloodlust over the issue of race.
The Obama Administration has declared open season on "racists" and "disgruntled employees" are the front lines.

WDBJ has a long history of hiring young reporters and anchors. Those anchors and reporters are all first rate though.
Hurst, the anchor, was hired as the lead anchor several years ago when he was 25ish. He was hired to replace the anchor who had just retired after about 35 years as anchor. Almost every anchor and reporter tend to stay for long periods of time. So Hurst was probably 7 or so years older.
Watching WDBJ live, and the anchors are starting to break down.

I've seen people like this many times defending discrimination lawsuits and claims. Minorities who have been raised to believe they can do no wrong and any bad outcome in their life is the fault of racism and discrimination. They are typically the worst employees, both in terms of conduct and discipline. Typically they were hired as a "diversity hire" even though they lacked the requisite experience or qualifications. And, typically, their bad performance and conduct was allowed to go on far longer than any non-minorities would be tolerated.
Sadly, often, their bad performance and misconduct was a result of being coddled through life - either getting passed along in school when they shouldn't be, getting into colleges they didn't qualify for, and never being disciplined in jobs. So they never learn a work ethic or self-discipline.
I wonder how much this mind-set played in to this guy's decision to kill those people? He's crazy, he might have done it anyway. But, I would wager that the entitlement mind-set developed by affirmative action played a role in making him think he was the victim here (his tweets seem to indicate he believed he was the victim, even after shooting them).

I work in cardiac surgery, and we have had patients who were JW, who have asked for blood products to be administered if it means life or death (when their family members aren't around). Or it means he was waiting for the camera to pan back to the reporter so his depravity could be captured on film for everyone back in the newsroom to see. The aiming/resting speaks to me more of waiting for the right moment to shoot than trying to gin up courage.

Blacksburg police wouldn't have been in on the chase as Blacksburg is "south" of Roanoke on I-81 and he was shot between Harrisonburg and D.C. on I-66 which meant he was on I-81 North. Only other department besides the Roanoke City Police Department and the Roanoke County Police Department that would have been involved at the start would be the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. However, he was probably already in Roanoke by the time the Franklin County Sheriff's Dept arrived on the scene, so they probably weren't involved in the chase.

I was a contract security officer at Ft Lewis. We carried, so there was a training program. Most of the people who were hired to go through the program were soldiers. A surprising number of the soldiers were unfamiliar with pistols, rifles only.
Anyhoo, I'd been taught by my Dad and was in the top 0.5% of my class, so they picked me to do some extra lessons for the people they wanted to make it through, but were failing pistol quals. One guy had some sort of nervous system disorder that made his hands shake badly after about 1.5 seconds of holding a shooting position. There was no time element to the qualifications so I had him relaxing between shots, bringing the weapon up, sighting, and firing. Even so, he was regularly completely missing the entire paper.
Somehow he qualified "expert" and I saw him working a gate with a sidearm a few weeks later. I have no doubt they faked his test score.

Nope. Money has nothing to do with it. You do have to know though, YOU may not be a creep, but you CAN come off as creepy to the wrong chick in the right situation. The trick is being able to figure out which of them are NOT going to be creeped out by the older dude. Sometimes you can't predict, but usually you can.

I had a .357SIG for about a year. I loved shooting that thing. Accurate as hell, not much recoil, and it's supposed to be a good performance round for goblins.
I sold it because every time I went to any gun store they'd have about one box of range ammo and one box of carry ammo. After a while I thought: "Bonhomme, nobody sells this round, maybe you should move on."

The .357 Sig case is longer and the walls are thicker, to withstand the increased pressure of the round, but to the naked eye it looks like a necked .40.

Franklin County is a whole other ballgame.
But this crime doesn't fall into the Capital Punishment definition in Virginia as far as I can see. For CP in VA, a felony must be committed during committing the murder. Or shooting a police officer, politician, or government employee.
It will be interesting to see if the FBI and Justice Department takes this over since they were TV station employees broadcasting live over a FCC licensed facility. Whenever anything at a radio or TV station happens, the FBI will get involved.

This is sad that I know this, but I remember this show years ago called Cheaters. Mr. Black and I used to watch it and laugh. One show was this guy who was cheating on his wife. When I was in college, I recall a black guy in one of my classes asked me out. He seemed like a nice enough dude - but I had a boyfriend at the time. So I said "no" and he immediately said, "It's because I'm black, isn't it?" Now if I had been interested in him at all, that line would have absolutely killed any interest. Who wants to go out with someone who will try to make you feel guilty and accuse you of bigotry if you don't go out with him? In radio, as I'm sure is the case with television, most of the "on-air talent" is pretty high strung to begin with. They have a lot of narcisim, but you usually deal with prima dona attitudes all the time, so you get used to it.

I had a good buddy in college who I shared a bunch of classes with who was a really good looking tall black guy.
There was a girl in one of our classes that was really nice (kind of flirty) with both of us. So my buddy asked her out. She got really weird about it and rejected him in a really awkward way.
he said, "damn. she must not be in to black dudes. That's the downside of being black in college, man." so I said, 'well, fuck it, if she said no to you, do you mind if I give it a shot?" and he said "go for it."
So I did. Long story short, I got the exact same rejection.
We found out later she was a hardcore mormon and us inviting her out to the bar for a drink was like the worst thing we could have said to her. Plus she had a nice mormon boy she was courting or was supposed to marry after college or something. I think it was eye opening for both of us, we both kind of felt stupid after that one.

More than likely the sickness was picked up from school, play group, etc. Kids through teens are notorious for not properly following hand hygiene, not covering a sneeze or cough, and on and on.

If it's not too ghoulish to bring up policy .... Institutionalizations shouldn't be the trigger, diagnosis should be. Mandatory report and onto the no-list with diagnosis of a subset of pathologies. To protect due process, auto panel-review and auto-sunset on individual restrictions, with provisions for override should be part of the deal.
But if you are a delusional paranoid narcissist with a substance abuse problem, no shotgun *as soon as you are diagnosed*, and then they have to prove the diagnosis correct to keep the ban in effect, and certain necessities or extenuating circumstances can be used to override either or both mandatory reporting and continued restrictions.
That doesn't touch on the sad fact that a lot of (dangerous) mental illness is brushed off as a guy being kind o a big jerk and nothing worse, and that even patients under treatment who report fantasies of bloody mayhem and murder at their own hands can't usually be "green warranted" without an active plan, let alone put on a no-sale list.
Background checks don't effectively screen even people with severe diagnosed mental disease from weapons purchase.
