That is not good. Besides all the bugs that can eat away at their skin, it can cut off circulation. Didnt you see the recent video of the little dog in LA living with some homeless people? He had never been groomed and his fur matted and cut off his circulation. One back leg just fell off and he lost a paw, too.

I had a gf, very pretty. But when she hit the dance floor -- look out! Elaine was nothing compared to Teri. She was a tiny little thing but needed the entire floor and she use to do this cossack step - if you know what I mean. What the hell?? It was odd. Anyway, Teri is no longer with us. Hopefully, there are very big dance floors where she is.

50 So this morning I said that in response to the incredible collapse of the stock market, (mark the tape, I says) that Obama would call for another stimulus.

Barely two hours later, Josh Earnestly Asshole said that what this country desperately needed was to invest in infrastructure.

What do I win?

So after a trillion dollars went missing in the first stimulus, what is needed is another stimulus.

I also said that a lot of wealth was destroyed this morning (and created). If the wrong people lost money, stimulus is where they go to get is back.

I believe that with my being.

I keep getting more and more convinced the "Trufans" are the Purebloods of the Scifi/Fantasy community, and the "Wrongfans" are the Muggles. Of course the Trufan head would explode upon hearing that but it's, well, Tru.

I also had optimism the Puppy slate might do well, because I honestly naively believed the SJWs would not burn down their own house to root out the wily puppies hiding inside it. Oh boy was I wrong on that score.

And Lamplighter, John C Wright's wife, getting yelled at and mansplained about her husband by Hayden is a cherry on top of the sundae of the SJW Pyrrhic victory.

55 I'm mid-way on a three day drive across the heartland, on I-70. CO to PA. I never listen to NPR, but did today.

They've a subtle way of carrying the narrative, but it's always there, isn't it?

A quick piece about some KKK halfwit on trial for murdering a jew or two, then a feel-good story about how well gummint money is helping the poor get health care in N'awlins. Finally, a little laugh about the probable Biden candidacy, mentioning some past slobbering journo peppering Zero with either-or questions. Joe or Hilly? Likening it to, Sasha or Malia?

GRRM awarding his own awards to people who "should" have been in the noms was especially heartwarming. But if he gets involved in the nomination process like he's asked to, he can't do that next year right? He's such a troll he just might anyway.

Some conservative/libertarian authors complained that the Hugo Awards for Science Fiction were politicized and dominated by cliques.

This year, two groups known as Sad and Rabid Puppies managed to dominate most of the Hugo nominations with a mix of authors, some of whom have conservative badthink.

Rather than give such authors any awards, the SJWs chose to No Award 5 categories, burning down the Hugo Awards they have dominated for the past decade or so.

It's not that they've degraded things more so than before; they chose to burn down the degraded Hugo Awards, and proven that they're a politically correct clique.

Disclosure: I once worked at a NASA site for a company that had a contract to run certain aspects of said site. So I have worked at NASA, but not directly for NASA.

Story: We had a guy on the night shift in computer operations that would look at porn all night long. And it was pretty much anything. Human, animal, vegetable. If it had a hole, he wanted in. Oh, yes, and hitting on underage girls in various web chat rooms, sometimes having them call him at the work number. Which two other shifts also answered.

Took us months to get rid of the guy, and this is with the FBI getting involved and taking images of hard drives. As far as I know, never prosecuted.

I lost money in the 2008-2009 crash. I hung on for a few months, then punched out in March 2009 when the market seemed to be in a death spiral. I decided I'd had enough when my Roth IRA fell to the value of my original contributions and I decided to cut my losses.

Yeah, I sold at the exact bottom of the market, almost to the minute. That sucked, but I'm not sorry to be out of the market. The thing about almost any accusation of "racism" - except that applied where it obviously belongs, large swathes of the black community, a fair number of Hispanics, and of course the professional race-baiters - is that it really instantaneously denotes the accuser as *both* stupid *and* of low character.

The "stupid" part pretty much screams its presence for anyone who pretends to believe they favor "open" borders. But the hallucinogenic "racist" slur helpfully rounds out the picture - the one flinging the slur is a vile creature not worth debating.

I always considered Goldhagen's thesis just a small extension of an indisputable observation anyway - that being that there was very widespread knowledge of/acquiescence in/lack of any real protest against the worst crimes. Um, the debate isn't about whether people knew about it. The question is why they went along with it. Goldhagen thinks it was because anti-Semitism was so ingrained into Germanic culture that they had no qualms at all about killing Jews, whereas Browning says that they actually intensely disliked killing Jews but most did so because they were told it was a nasty but necessary task and were reluctant to let their comrades shoulder the burden alone, even when given the chance not to participate.

Basically, the question is whether the men who actually did the killing did so because German culture in the 1940s was uniquely evil or whether they did so because of factors intrinsic to human nature. The answer has implications...

Men are evil. See America's abortion bodycount.

That said, I think there is something to there being a national character.

Germans like efficiency and following the system, and the Holocaust reflects that.

But know that whatever the nation, Communism/Socialism running things will murder up a storm.

So I take it that Cilizza is the WaPo drone unwittingly displaying North Korean "journalist" instincts by framing events in terms of how they affect President Airhead's "popularity" with the NPR-stupid social media-besotted American masses? Based on the sockpoppet here.

Well I'm going to bed smarter tonight, without question.

I've learned that a long-shot presidential candidate's vague remarks, and not real bubble-economy stumbles and dynamics, affect world stock markets.

And also that what matters about real world events is how they affect the short term derping of vapid people who pay any attention to vapid Beltway "journalists".

Funny, I just wrote a book about that

Humans have evil within us, it is not environmental. Our environment and influences only give opportunity and help lead us toward the evil within, not create it.

297 WTF with their valuations? I mean the "tech" companies that are pretty much advertizing companies, like F-book and Google. Guess Google, at least at one point, had some actual tech angle to its shtick.

Google has a very strong data collection/analysis aspect to it, and I've heard interesting rumors that it has close ties to the NSA/government spying agencies. All your pron history is at someone's fingertips.

Facebook definitely has value as a way to collect relational data between people and do stuff with all the personal information freely post. But it's probably overrated in the stock market.

Well if evil within is symmetrically distributed, its gotta be resistance to evil that isn't. Somethin's gotta explain the rather assymmetrical actual *occurrence* of evil at least in the form of organized mass murder in the modern era. And that probably has a lot to do with the notorious concept of "national character", which usually is reflected in styles and systems of governance.

Kind of a broader application of the "fascism is always descending on America but only ever landing in Europe" principle.

Though, needless and sad to say, it's a non-trivial question now whether sufficient gaps remain in the respective "national characters" to maintain this pattern.

Well anything involving humans is immensely complex, but as noted above the cultural/national character has an influence on how and when this evil surfaces, and if there is an outside influence, a restraining force that is above and controlling in the world, it would have an effect as well, for its on purposes.

321 That sheep is like my kid brother, who ran away and hid in the woods in the park because he didn't want to get a buzz cut for the summer. This was in 1970 or so, when he was 8. He wanted long hair and my parents wouldn't let him. He didn't last as long as the sheep did though. After a couple of hours he got hungry and my mom nabbed him when he was making a PB&J sandwich. He wore a wool cap for the next few weeks he was so ashamed of the buzz cut.

Haha, a little kid running around in 90 degree weather with a woolen cap on. What a maroon that boy was sometimes.

Christianity began a long decline in Europe in the 19th century and I believe the result was the disaster of the 20th century. Utopianism took over and resulted in the hell that utopias always bring.

For Germany specifically you have several factors that came together. Luther's wicked statements about the Jews really left a solid nugget of antisemitism in German culture (I'm Lutheran). Add in Hitler's eugenic beliefs, German efficiency or need for order, the loss of Christianity, and something bad was going to happen.

Mom's baby boy liked to smush spiders and put them on my pillow. I would smack him around but he didn't care.

One day, when he was 15 and I was 18, he was being irritating so I smacked him on the arm and suddenly I was on the floor and he was twisting my arm and saying, 'Don't you ever hit me again!" Then the roof caved in on them. 3 runs scored off Farmer, changed pitchers, next two pitchers couldn't get anybody out, then a K from the next pitcher, then four more hits. then the final out.

Well, yeah. There have been a slew of changes to increase safety, but the "canopy" idea is a problem too.

After 1964 and the reduction in the amount of fuel allowed to be carried, most cars also switched to ethanol or methanol fuel blends, intead of gasoline. They acknowledged they would need more pitstops since they couldn't carry enough fuel for the whole race.

Rookie Dave McDonald (whom no one remembers, and was also killed in the same pileup) probably caused the inferno when NASCAR changed the rules and they modified his car to meet them and it became aerodynamically unstable at high speed. NASCAR probably changed the rules for.....safety.

Ya know, comedy is the hardest gig, and Sen. Cotton oughta just hang it up. Today on the radio he was arguing that it was unlikely his Dem "colleagues" would filibuster a vote on the Iran disapproval thinggy. You see, it was one of the most consequential matters of our times, surely all could see the need for an up/down vote.

Not only that, but Leader McConnel, Tom tells us, plans a full, serious debate, the old-fashioned kind, where senators are expected to be on the floor.

Cotton also said he couldn't imagine what the deal's proponents would be arguing, especially in light of the secret side-deal with IAEA on self-inspection.

Look, Cotton's a good guy, HE is not the problem. But if he believes 1/10 of what he said, he's got substance abuse habits that have been well concealed.

One generation ago, everything he said was true. Heck, no "deal" remotely this bad, with the largest active "hot war" enemy of the US, would ever see the light of day. And there's no way a huge issue of this sort would be denied an up/down vote. That was, it seems, a geologic age ago, in terms of America's civil society and seriousness.

503 maybe Indycar should find a way to stop young guys getting killed in the prime of their life.

From what I know about the history of auto racing, there used to be someone getting killed just about every race.

But I suspect the danger is part of the appeal--like joining the army or extreme sports; real men don't like to be all wrapped up in styrofoam peanuts, they want some adventure and it comes with risk.

(Also, I've had too much beer to do the math, but I'm wondering if you look at deaths vs. miles driven over the past 5 years or so--only two deaths during races--and compared it to deaths vs. miles driven in normal traffic, they're probably not far off.)

514 Any move by the GOPe to demand that candidates sign a "no third party" pledge is just a tacit acknowledgement that they are seeking to nominate a squish candidate who won't appeal to the base.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 24, 2015 11:05 PM (aRgrb)

Actually, Trump can easily take the no-third party pledge. Then just break it if he feels like it (as could anyone, really). I mean, any party-imposed sanction for breaking a pledge only really applies if .... you're still operating within the party. Right?

But if NC and VA do this, I want Trump to have his spokesman sunnily announce that the candidate will happily take the "Reichswehreid" to the state GOPs.

I mean, Trump is the de facto Nazi candidate this time, right? Isn't that what we're being instructed by some of our Beltway betters?

Posted by: rhomboid at August 24, 2015 11:05 PM (QDnY+)

517 This is funny: Today I got a call from the manager of my State retirement fund--the manager from the specific fund that I chose (we were allowed to pick from different management funds to manage our accounts). What is funny is that I closed and moved that account 3 years ago when I "retired" because it had grown by only 2% over 6 years.
