Rep. Mark Meadows May File a Motion to Oust Boehner from Speakership

Mark Meadows has already filed a non- privileged version of a motion to "vacate the chair" and thus oust Boehner, near the end of July; but a non-privileged motion does not actually compel a vote. I guess Boehner just tabled it or whatever.

But he says he's thinking very hard about taking it to that next step of making it a privileged motion, which must be voted on.

If it sounds like I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, that's because I don't.

During a normal day in his home district last week, which felt like a victory lap based on the warm reception of constituents, Meadows reflected on his decision with “no regrets.”

Indeed, when Congress returns from its six-week summer recess, Meadows warned he may take it a step further.

Meadows says if leadership’s tactics don’t change to his liking, he--or another supportive lawmaker--could refile the motion from "non-privileged" to "privileged," forcing a vote within two legislative days.

Meadows insists that Boehner would need to depend on Democrats to keep his speakership---he says there are "many more" than 29 Republicans who would vote to strip the speaker of his gavel (for comparison, 25 lawmakers did not vote to re-elect Boehner as speaker in January).

You might want to let your Representative know that you will not be voting for him in future contests, whether general or primary, if he votes to keep Boehner in power.

I expect the Establishment-leaning commentariat to shriek about this like they did last January. I also expect them to then wonder why fewer and fewer people trust their judgment.

Once we hold the House, The Senate and the Executive branch we can concentrate on the Legislative branch. So instead of wining with 62% of the vote, they'll only win with 60%. Big deal.

That's why most members of congress, on both sides, don't give a fuck what their constituents think. They know that 80-90% will vote straight "R" or "D" every election and the 10% that actually thinks about who they will vote for isn't a large enough group to matter.

OK, I'll come clean. I've got an account on AM. Set it up some years ago, more out of curiosity than anything. (Certainly nothing ever came of it for me...) Thing is, you have to have a valid email address in order to activate the account. In fact, most interactive web sites where you have a login ID/password are set up this way.

Of course, if you are going to set up an ID on a site of this type, you'd have to be a real idiot to use anything other than a Yahoo/Gmail or the like email address. But then, no one ever said lefties/Dems were ever known for being overly bright...

94 Orange skinned cocksucker went all out in the last primary. Constant ads and flyers that stopped during the general election. More of an effort than he has ever put for any campaign general or primary than I can ever remember previously. His main primary opponent hardly did squat in commercials or campaigning except the week or two before. And the Oompa Loompa still took a 10-15% hit in his numbers compared to previous years. Someone copying Brat's campaign against Cantor likely has a shot at unseating the fucker.

106 Just e-mailed my Congresscritter.

Congressman,

As seen here (The Hill link) your colleague Mark Meadows is considering a vote to oust Speaker Boehner. Should he do so I'd like to strongly urge you to support said measure. I and many other Republicans are sick and tired of weakness and capitulation from GOP leadership in both the House and Senate. The Speaker may talk a good game, but his actions speak louder than words. I've voted GOP in every election since I was old enough to vote, but more of the same wishy-washy, go along to get along actions from the party are likely to force me to break my streak for the 2016 election. If the party won't even attempt to act as opposition to the Democrats, I see no need to provide further financial and electoral support.

But while working for Kennedy, she realized her values and views were not Democratic at all and she soon became a Republican. "

201 I hope so, but I'll believe it when I see it.

202 "You might want to let your Representative know that you will not be voting for him in future contests, whether general or primary, if he votes to keep Boehner in power."

Oh, yeah? Does anyone think that they don't know what we want?

F 'em, no more coaching from me. Do the right thing, or you assholes in Congress will be dealing with Trump as POTUS. And f you anyway, just on general principles.

203 Mr. McGee, don't make me weepy. You wouldn't like me when I'm weepy.

204 Then again, one of the white hats in the House says there are only so markers you can call in, and Boehner's markers are dwindling.

205 Now that I'm on the subject of John Boehner being sort of like Bruce Banner, only turning orange and weepy when elated instead of green and invincible when angry, here's some interesting trivia about The Hulk's real name...

Stan Lee gave a lot of the early Marvel characters alliterative names... Bruce Banner, Peter Parker, Scott Summers, and Reed Richards, for example... because he had a hard time keeping characters' names straight while writing.

This trick worked, for the most part. But it did fail him on occasion when writing The Incredible Hulk. He sometimes forgot the name Bruce, instead calling the character Bob Banner. And so it came to be that the Hulk's full name became Robert Bruce Banner.

Later, when The Incredible Hulk became a live-action TV show in the 70s, the character's name was changed to David Banner, because it was the view of the show's producers that the name Bruce sounded too gay. But it wasn't long before the writers started slipping in Bruce as Banner's middle name anyway, and again making Bruce what his friends called him, so he really just became David Bruce Banner instead of Robert Bruce Banner. Bruce sounded gay, see? So they ditched the name Robert.

I'm sure this made sense to them somehow at the time.

He says he does, but it's all an act.

207 WHO was "shrieking" in January? The only ones all worked up were those promoting a challenge to Boehner. Got links? Or just more visions?

Labrador, then as always, had predicted "about 50" sure votes, and netted half. One wonders if the same people keep lying to him, or if the lie is coming from somewhere else.

Now, some were encouraged by the greater # of defections on the trade bill, but with votes to spare you know at least some voted no to appease their own crazies, with permission of leadership. And perhaps a few even - gasp - voted their consciences on it, even though they won't oppose Boehner.

There is a good reason no one ever offers real money on these propositions.
