Another Hillary Lie: Team Grandmonster Never Informed DHS About Secret Email System, Despite DHS Rules Requiring Updates About Communications Systems

Seems to make sense: The DHS required regular updates about the security of email systems so they could audit them to discover if they were secure or if they were hackable.

Grandmonster Hillary never told them about this key system, upon which she conducted all of her official State business Pinterest-based Yoga Routine Research.

The State Department does not appear to have submitted legally required information regarding Hillary Clinton's secret computer server to the Department of Homeland Security during her term as secretary, FoxNews.com has learned.

All federal government agencies are mandated to submit a list of systems, vulnerabilities and configuration issues to DHS every 30 days. The department then performs a "cyberscope audit" to ensure security, a responsibility the agency has had since 2010.

FoxNews.com learned of the lapse as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request submitted June 11. It is not clear if State Department officials in charge of compliance with the DHS audits knew of their boss's server, which has been shown to have included "top secret" information in emails.

John Schindler runs down the lies from Grandmonster Hillary's recent statements and concludes:

The prodigious Team Hillary lies must stop. With each new, flat-out lie, she is damaging her party and the country. It’s time to come clean and end this charade. There’s not much time left — the FBI will end its investigation eventually, and I doubt Clinton, Inc. will like what the Bureau finds.

Among the biggest questions facing the FBI is, if Hillary had no unclassified state.gov email account, did she have (or use) higher-level governmental email? There are separate email systems for Secret and Top Secret Codeword information, respectively. Did Hillary use them at all? Did that play a role in this scandal?

If Hillary wasn’t lifting classified information from “high-side” systems (to use IC terminology), who on her staff was? That question surely is something the FBI is looking into very closely right now.

A guest on Limbaugh (actually, a guest on Mark Steyn, who was subbing for Limbaugh) spoke about this today. There are non-classified computers and classified computers. Only classified computers can accept classified information.

If you use government email, the email is routed in such a way that information from a classified computer cannot be sent to a non-classified computer. I don't mean it's against the law; I mean it's technically impossible. The system won't permit this to happen.

But Hillary was using her own system, and seems to have been the "passive recipient of unwitting information" (whatever that could mean) of a classified nature.

This could only happen because she insisted on using her own secret private system.

Furthermore, we still have the air-gap problem to talk about: The most sensitive documents, the Top Secret/SCI stuff, is only viewable on hard copy in a SCIF, a sensitive compartmented information facility, which requires the permission of two guards to enter, and exit.

You can't "hack" the system because it's not all plugged into the internet. The documents have an "air gap" separating them from the electric river of the internet.

But these documents, which are not supposed to be transferred from place to place except by physical movement through the air, nevertheless were present in electronic format on Hillary's easily-hacked, easily-forwarded-to-whoever private system.

How did this information get there? Who scanned the hard-copy documents and uploaded them, illegally, to a non-secure electronic system?

Who smuggled them past the air gap?

And why?

Why did Hillary's convenience -- assuming the documents were smuggled on to her email for her convenience -- trump very sensible, and very serious, national security protocols?

It's a philosophical point I know, but is it the law, if it's not being enforced?

If I slit a guy's throat, and go to prison, but you do it, and don't. Then the law is not "slitting throats is illegal." The law is "only some people are not allowed to slit throats."

And my real point is the effect it has on everyone else. If we see it often enough, we become accustomed to it, and we no longer look around with shock when we see it happening before our very eyes.

It isn't possible for Hilldooger alone to have mislead DHS. State IT would have been aware of this system, of her Blackberry and iPad use, and they also never reported it to DHS.

Somewhere I'll bet you there is documentation of an "Exception" (or whatever term they use at State) to these requirements, signed by Hillary herself probably, giving permission for both the exception to rules and also instructing them not to notify DHS.

232 I wish people who DON"T HAVE A FUCKING CLUE how these systems work and have never used them would STFU about trying to describe them and how they work.

1. TS INFO IS ON A TOTALLY FUCKNIG SEPARATE SYSTEM. Each and every 'official' document that carries a classification has each and every paragraph MARKED WITH CLASSIFICIATION. You can have one paragraph not classified, and two other with separate S and TS levels. Therefore, the entire document would be TS because the highest level of ANY part of the document in this case is TS.

2. That TS document, as Ace said, CANNOT be directly sent to an unclas system. SOMEONE HAS TO MOVE IT THERE. That is NOT as easy these days as it sounds. Thanks to Snowden and Manning, it's much more difficult. THE TS MESSAGING IS A SEPARATE SYSTEM FROM (S) and UNCLAS. That system also has other 'compartmented' systems on top of is, due to 'need to know' prohibitions.

3. One can send material from unclas to classified rather easily. BUT IT IS TRACKED. CLOSELY. I can move from lower classification to higher, not much problem. Trying the other way? VERY difficult due to scanning software these days. And THAT is tracked closely, VERY closely, too.

4. Not every SCIF has a guard. There are some that do. I work in several of them- none of them do, but you betcha you need the right ID to get anywhere near it. We have SCIFs that are INSIDE SCIFs.

5. Had a single one of us even APPEARED to partake in even ONE of the events Hillary is accused of doing, we'd be gone. Kaput. Finished. THAT DAY. In security, you are guilty til you prove innocence. Accidentally did it? Too bad. You obviously are not careful. Thanks for playing, enjoy your new career. Didn't report it? Same thing. They are far less forgiving these days. Again, thank you Manning and Snowden.

I have one friend telling me this is nothing different than what other presidents have done- has anyone seen what Colin Powell said this Sunday?

Colin Powell said he did the same thing Hillary did- thus, torpedoing this 'witch hunt' against Hillary. Did anyone else catch that?

241 Ace,

I'm not posting under my normal name, for reasons that will become obvious. I wanted to talk a little about this:

"The most sensitive documents, the Top Secret/SCI stuff, is only viewable on hard copy in a "skiff," a secure containment facility, which requires the permission of two guards to enter, and exit."

I work in a SCIF, which stands for "Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility." We don't have guards, as we are part of a larger compound with built-in physical security. I'm not saying this to humble-brag, I just wanted to note that not all SCIFs are the same.

Second, it might not be entire documents that have been scanned and uploaded to non-secure systems. It could be as simple as a person with knowledge of classified information sat down at a non-secure system, and wrote an email about what they knew. This is no less illegal, and one of the reasons why government computers all require the user to consent to monitoring of their activity.

But if the activity in question does not occur on a government computer (as appears to have happened here), the normal methods of catching and containing the potential leak will not work. As much as people yang about the NSA/CSS intercepting everything...they just can't catch it all.

Additionally, it may be worthwhile to ask about the rules regarding intercepted communications of highly-placed government officials. I seem to remember some rules stating that those communications would not go through normal screening processes, as a courtesy to the high-ranking official. That may have happened here.

Dude.

I think a vast majority of us know how the system is supposed to work. But I, who am pretty ignorant about computer stuff, tend to believe that lax oversight -- this is the Choom Boy administration, after all -- combined with a hacker or two (which Huma's family members might have put her on to, if such a person wasn't already on Shrillery's payroll) could come up with a workaround that would take care of all that.

One cable connection, combined with government employees who are told to let things slide or who are too busy checking out the Ashley Madison site to give a shit -- ought to be able to bridge an "air gap."

I trust neither software or Democrats.

The Dems are out there now saying "there are too many secrets anyway" and its resonating. People are nodding their heads, because its true, the government IS keeping too much crap from us.

And then the LIV says "well yeah, I'd keep a private e-mail too, nobody needs to know all the stuff I do" plus the Ashley Madison leak... they're thinking "man I would hate people to learn that about me."

Hillary could easily ride this out.

That's because we have a neo Nomenklatura class of politicians which are basically untouchable. No one will prosecute them in anything that resembles an effective prosecution.

That's my take on it. I haven't always thought that way. Now I do.

Not to defend Hillary, but I doubt that this regulation is complied with or enforced. No large organization could keep up with such an onerous IT paper chase. And DHS would be unable to cope with the monthly mountain of data.

I had to talk a guy at work off the ledge [he thinks 8 years of Cankles is inevitable].

The nominees will be Biden and Kasich. Hillary is going to suffer some made up health problem (or more likely, it will be Bill's made uphealth problem), allowing her to bow out to attend to "urgent family matters."Then Biden's dead son willpushhim into the race at the last minute, while theLIVs still feel sorry for him because his son died(and before he can say anything too stupid or outrageous). Why Kasich? Because the GOP can't help but nominate an old white guy who is probably pretty liberal (or "compassionate", one or the other).

Yes I'm cynical. And yes Hillary will never be prosecuted for anything. And Bill will make a miraculous recovery.

I've brought this up before since it occurred to me the henchperson who did the deed is the weak link in all this. Let's call her Patsy. She's probably a low-level nobody in the Clinton hierarchy,an Assistant to the Assistant to Huma Abedin or some such thing. My guess is she left State when Hillary did. Another guess is that she's also packing her bags right about now andtelling friends and family she's taking a long vacation to...somewhere fun and exotic like, say, Cameroon, which coincidentally has no extradition treaty with the US.

Yes.
Although politicians CAN be prosecuted if they are in the wrong party or not well protected.
In fact, they may be railroaded over nothing or for genuine trivia.

Scooter Libby anyone?

We have sooooo many laws that anyone can be prosecuted for anything.
Yet the Favored Ones can break the law flagrantly.
This is tyranny.

This is one ugly mess. People died. Huma could get a firing squad.

278 Correction on the classified and unclassified systems. While Top Secret sensitive compartmented documents exist on a separate system than unclassified systems, they are not hard copy and can be accessed soft copy by someone with the appropriate access. There is an air gap between TS and Unclass systems, so to put them on an unclass system takes someone to knowingly break security procedures and print them off and scan them in as Ace describes, or remove them on external media such as a CD or thumb drive. And then put them on the unclass system. Also, IC reports and email handling systems have automated classification markings in that they force the user to be the appropriate marking on them, to include on email. Consider that Hillary was head of a cabinet agency who had a Bureau of Intelligence Research, and the fact State produces classified cables from their overseas embassies daily, it's inconceivable she did not know what is or what is not classified material. Mostly sources and sensitivity of the data drives classification, the rules are basic Intel 101 for anyone working in any IC agency anywhere, down to private first class who graduated from tech school. Anyone who did what she did would have their access suspended immediately, and an investigation would be opened. If they removed classification markings willfully, they are in trouble big time.

280 Not the point how easy, it's beneath Her Majesty to submit to the hoi-polloi rules.

Posted by: mojo at August 24, 2015 10:41 PM (OmBeX)

Yeah, OK.

The simplest explanation is that she sat in her own office, put a thumb drive in her yellow or red machine, copied the files she wanted sent to her personal e-mail account, and had it sent (either personally or by a staffer) via another private e-mail account. I would expect State to block private e-mail and webmail from its black machines, so it would be simply carried out of the office to a home computer.

Posted by: Burnt Toast at August 24, 2015 11:30 PM (NaeCR)

281 With the air gap etc. you've described how it's supposed to work. Having spent a couple years working for a government contractor I can assure you it's not nearly that clean in practice. If some sort of objective examination was conducted of the handling of classified materials all through the system, you'd find Hillary's methods to be far less unusual. (This is not to exculpate her in any way.)

Posted by: Rollory at August 25, 2015 07:30 AM (z2L/U)

282 The government classified e-mail systems cannot send to any unapproved system, including Hillary's bootleg system. In order to send classified email, the receiving system needs to be capable of making an "encryption handshake" with the sender so it can decrypt the e-mail. Otherwise the received message is "garbage." I would suggest that there was no actual copying of classified information across air gaps. The process was most likely something like this: One or more of Hillary's aids read several TS/SCI items and summarized them in an email that was not properly marked and was transmitted on the unclassified system. There is no mystery or air gap issue.
By the way, Hillary was an Authorized Original Classifier (AOC), which is a big deal. As such, it was her responsibility to be able to recognize classified information. The "I didn't know it was classified" defense doesn't hold water for an AOC.
