I am not opposed to a more neutral tone in reporting, if its consistent. As in: if you're going to avoid being judgmental about any actions in your headlines and reporting, do that with all your reporting, not just the stories you are trying to avoid upsetting some group in.
My least favorite trick the news uses is with ballot measure names. A ballot measure they don't care about is always by its official name: the Street Curb Repainting Act. One they like gets the most positive spin: The Community Beautification and Safety Act. One they don't like they get from the opposition PAC's team: The Street Tax Increase Act. Its so obvious and so unprofessional. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at August 21, 2015 08:59 PM (39g3+) 47

Yes, his message discipline is weak. But he connects with the crowd, in his manner of "stream of consciouness" kind of speaking. He makes his points, in a roundabout way. As Ed Rollins just said on Fox; he's a great salesman, he's selling America. He's selling the idea of America back to the people. Is that a bad message? After 7 years of Obama degrading the American ideal, he's a guy who's saying "we're going to be great again. I'm not selling the country down the river." It's a double edged sword for Trump.

I love a lot of the things he's saying, and that he's consulting with serious people, that he will not back down to the party or the media. It's a breath of fresh air. I just don't know what to make of all this after watching Trump for years as a larger than life, kinda clownish yet successful celebrity businessman. If the Trump phenomenon is surreal, the last 6 years of Obama have been a freakin Twilight Zone episode, so many disturbing, non-sensical things. And that's what troubles me. people seem to be willing to realize that politicians are untrustworthy trash... until one grabs them by a particular emotional handle and then they sort of get dumb about it. You go to politics with the electorate you have, not the electorate you wish you had. And, sadly, the politicians you have. I'd love to craft a Frankencandidate out of the best of the 17 out there, but... we gotta go with what we have. That's why its so liberating to realize that it just doesn't matter who wins any more. It will turn into just a giant welfare program where everyone pays in and only "low income" Americans get out. Posted by: HUCK / AKIN 2016 at August 21, 2015 09:59 PM (0LHZx) Posted by: Cruzinator at August 21, 2015 09:59 PM (I5hoQ) 293
Perhaps you might not want to use the word "Derangement" when talking about your mother's political viewpoint.
Posted by: Christopher Taylor at August 21, 2015 09:52 PM (39g3+) Trump Derangement Syndrome is a phrase used to describe people who cannot quite wrap their minds around the Trump phenomena, and keep making silly pronouncements about the guy. It's not a real medical condition. Maybe you don't like it used here, but please, don't conflate it into some sort of soapbox rant on disrespecting the elderly. That's just silly. 274 His FOUR bankruptcies sort of say squishy to me.
What's squishy about bankruptcy? Sometimes investments good bad. Posted by: Methos at August 21, 2015 09:56 PM (ZbV+0) Trump has already said he did not personally go bankrupt. He says he took advantage of legal laws written so his companies went bankrupt, and he personally didn't lose any money. His corporations -- or rather, the investors -- did. This is one of the reasons I like the guy. Brutally honest, and he's telling us how the system is gamed. Posted by: jwb7605 at August 21, 2015 10:00 PM (M+9nV) 295

For being the multi-billionaire that he is, Trump doesn't sound like a stuffy rich guy. He has an ability to work the crowd and connect with them. Look at the way he playfully introduced Jeff Sessions tonight. Trump would probably win the "which Republican candidate would you most like to have a beer with" poll, although Rubio would probably win if we were talking water instead of a beer.
I'm sure he will tighten up his message as the race progresses. He introduced his immigration policy this week, which Sessions wrote or co-wrote (though Sessions gave Trump all the credit tonight). He's introducing his tax policy paper in the next month. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the race continues. Posted by: Titanium at August 21, 2015 10:01 PM (u9UgT) 298

Even if a flat tax means you pay the same amount of money, it's still a great thing. Why? Because with a flax tax, the govt can give special favors. The reason the tax code is so complicated is because every deduction or tax credit is so that a special interest gets something.
Get rid of deductions, you get rid of the influence bought. Posted by: HUCK / AKIN 2016 at August 21, 2015 10:04 PM (0LHZx) 305

Yeah me either, but I don't see a solution. Obama woke them up, somehow and got them active in politics. Maybe they'll go back to sleep without him around to stir them up. Maybe he'll stay in politics and just do that: raise money and rabble rouse. I fear that will be it. I do not own a home or land but I support going back to the original plan of letting only landowners vote. People with some skin in the game. I wouldn't be able to vote then, but I'd give it up to cut out all the others without any actual personal cost in who they pick to spend our money. Posted by: Cruzinator ------------- Yeah. I'm not necessarily a proponent, but I certainly think the tax system could be streamlined. trumps extemporaneous speaking does not mean that he can't deliver a prepared speech as some would suggest. frankly, why is "the speech" a measure of how great a president someone will be? why do we judge a president on how well he performs in a debate? screw that.
perhaps we should be looking for candidates with experience, and a proven track record of success in something other than giving speeches and being a politician. trump is one of the richest men in the history of our country. he's been very successful, and he does know how to get things done and negotiate. there isn't one person up there running right now, except maybe ted cruz, that could probably negotiate better than trump. who do you think knows more about creating jobs? fixing infrastructure? dealing with intense negotiations? problem solving? budgeting? seriously. if we want our best and brightest leading our country than maybe we need to start by electing our best and brightest to office. trump doesn't have to do this. i am convinced he's running because he actually loves the country and wants it to be the best. wouldn't it be nice to have someone in office for a change that actually LOVES our country and really wants it to be the best it can be? wouldn't it be nice for a change? I have ridden these trains in Europe. I am not surprised but totally disgusted that the entire train crew locked themselves into a room and left the passengers to the mercy of fate. In this case God sent US military angels in the forms of an Airman, a National Guardsmen and a college student to protect the other 497 passengers on board (with a Brit IT gentlemen joining in the hogtie of the stinky radical islamic terrorist. I loved...LOVED...that they beat him unconscious. With his gun. Loved it. Heroes. My heart swells with pride that these are our homegrown heroes who don't hesitate but have the "let's roll" attitude.
I can only hope that had I been on that train I would have delivered a whack or two to the terrorist with my travel purse. May God give us all the courage we need should a similar problem arise...although I doubt I will be on a train in France anytime soon. Husband has had enough, no matter my wishes. Hail, soon it will be all mooslem anyway. Interesting that YESTERDAY, in the midst of calling these men Marines, which is certainly not an insult, the French press were calling this simian a terrorist. Of course Oweenie, King Putz, had to dampen this by the "investigation" but glad the Americans lent a hand or some blathering foam coming out his pie-hole. farht. I love the American heroes in this story. Love that Spencer, after tackling this goat turd, hog tying him (oh, the irony!), and beating him unconscious, then helped two other wounded passengers while bleeding from the neck and almost losing a thumb. This is America, France and world. Thank you, God, for putting these men on this train. Thank you, God, for sparing their lives. Thank you, God, for this country and please protect us from our enemies.
