I wish she would explain why, after turning over to the State Department the e-mails she deemed work-related, she had the server professionally wiped clean. The explanation that she didn’t want people prying into private matters such as "planning for [daughter] Chelsea's wedding . . . as well as yoga routines, family vacations, the other things you typically find in inboxes" is unconvincing. At the piece's end, she asks that Hillary withdraw with some dignity intact. I question the premise of that last suggestion.
Reality must be looked in the eye. Clinton is a hugely divisive figure, including within her own party -- and not primarily because she is a woman.... Clinton's chief liability... is the baggage she carries of her own. This includes the matter of that private email account she is claimed to have used professionally while secretary of state, and her handling of the murder of the US ambassador in Libya. The latter suggests a reluctance to accept ultimate responsibility, which is not a good recommendation for a president. The former suggests confusion about where to draw the line between the personal and the professional -- a line more clearly drawn in US politics than here. Her explanations ---– most recently to reporters in Iowa, where she talked about "convenience" that turned out "to be not so convenient" -- remain unsatisfactory and high-handed. Most unfair of all is the health question. In her last weeks as secretary of state, Clinton spent a few days in hospital being treated for a blood clot, the prognosis being a complete recovery. When she first mooted running again for the presidency, however, George Bush’s former attack-dog, Karl Rove, cited that incident to sow doubt about her health. He was criticised even by fellow Republicans at the time, but presidential campaigns are ruthless. If she wins the nomination, the health issue will not be off limits.

Some of us were even disgusted by their disrespect of voters with their "^0 Minutes" interview to clear the air re: accusations of an affair coming to light (forget which bimbo - the one who played Bill's voicemail messages to the press). I've mentioned this many times (and I'll flatter myself by thinking the horde has read it), but when you constantly undermine the rule of law like the #blacklivesmatter group has done, and like the clintons and D pol's do regularly, you get to a point where NO ONE respects the law, and you end up with a system like Mexico or Central America.
Which basically means bribery, corruption, and nepotism are the names of the game when it comes to dealing with law enforcement and the judicial system.

Okay server stuff:
All Hillary! would have to do is delete her emails, then slowly replace the drives in her RAID array one by one, letting them rebuild the data as you go.
Obviously it's not rebuilding "deleted" data, only whats actively mapped on the drives.
Then you throw out the old drives, send the now "cleaned" data over to your buddies, print out the 30k emails you want State to see, then bring your old server to a forensic "hide this shit for me" company in NJ to make sure you're clean, and voila.
Also, does anyone else find it funny that even the emails she turned over contain multiple felonies worth of classified info?
What the FUCK was on those other emails then?
Like if I were to have my lawyers go through and delete half of my emails, i'd expect them to delete ANYTHING even remotely incriminating. Right?

And like I've said before -- the most amazing part to me is that she just ... didn't use a .gov email address.
Most of the people in O's cabinet are smart enough to use their .gov for all the normal inter-office bullshit they deal with, then do their shady business on an anonymous yahoo or gmail account.
Hillary had the balls to say, "nah, I'm just going to do everything on my private account."
I mean for fucks sake, EVERY SINGLE PERSON she emailed saw that she was using an off-domain email address. ANY ONE OF THEM could have tipped off judicial watch or the press or whomever at any time and they could have FOIA'ed those emails since they contained State work stuff. She had a lot of balls.
The flip side to that is that no one did it, amazingly. Which makes me believe this is far more common in DC then everyone is acting like it is.

But Outlook, and many other mail clients, manage the data file itself as if it were a disk drive. That is, deleting an email from your mail client doesn't actually delete anything from the data file, it just marks the message as deleted and the file space becomes available for future use.
Hence, if they can find the supposedly clean data file on the PRN server, it may have remnants of Clinton's deleted messages embedded in it.

Also, I doubt the FBI will be able to recover anything. If Hillary! truly had things to hide (which we know she did), then she had an IT company wipe it.
And like I said, swapping out the drives in a RAID 5 array over time and letting them rebuild will hide any signs of those "deleted" files.
Now, if the original drives still exist, maybe they can recover info. But it's been a while since these emails were sent, we have no idea how many times that data has been written over.

Doesn't matter. You pop in a Live disc and wipe the offending drive. Easy-peezy.
The point is, anyway, that wiping a disc is really no more difficult than writing over its entirety (you can do it a few times to make sure you hit all the caches). The Unix "data destroyer" command just shows how simple it is to write the whole disc (including the bootsector and disregarding any silly partition structure) but the fact is that if you write a new 2.2 terabytes to a 2.2 terabyte disc there won't be any of the original info left.

can do it. Sledgehammers will work. Or the drives get popped by an NSA
approved degaussing machine. Or do all three methods to be paranoid.

Depends on what types of drives they are.
SSDs, no.
Spinning drives, yes.
But again, everyones thinking about consumer devices here like a laptop.
Server storage (if its direct attached in a RAID array) works a little differently in that if you have, say, a RAID 5 array with 4 drives, you're writing your data in "ribbons"
As in, your data is being written across the 4 drives.
When one of those 4 drives fail, you can pop in a brand new out of the box drive, and through magic and witchcraft the server can rebuild the missing data on to that new drive that was on the failed drive.
If you delete your data from the 4 drives, then replace 1 at a time and let it rebuild, it will not rebuild the non-mapped "deleted" info, only what is on the live, mapped, environment.
With more complex RAID arrays, it's a little more work, but the same outcome is fairly easy to pull off. It would take a little time -- maybe a day or two (you have to let one drive rebuild at a time, obviously), but it's not difficult and doesnt require a lot of tech knowledge to do.
Now, if her data was on a NAS or SAN (more common than direct attach), it's even easier to pull all of that off without anyone noticing.
So there may be some ghost pathways that the FBI can find, but rebuilding anything usable...? I doubt it.

Hillary! is not that much older than I am. It's true that I was a computer professional, not a lawyer, and I have two email accounts on my smart phone. I could have eight or ten or twenty... Every single employer that I had from the time email hit the business world trained their employees that company business was to be done only on company email and company phones. I signed form after form attesting to the fact that I understood the training and the consequences of not adhering to the policies involved. It would boggle my mind to think that no one gave Hillary any training on handling Top Secret Classified information.

Let me clarify:
If you only wanted to wipe a few files off of a disk then you need to really take care since you have to make sure that you overwrite all the physical file fragments (which might be close to impossible, since the file could have been much larger before and left isolated physical memory fragments intact when it was made smaller and saved). This is a pretty tough task, that can't just be done in any simple way. But, if you just want to wipe the whole disk it's very simple.

I would also add a note about CDs/DVDs - most people screw up by trying to destroy them by scratching the plastic on the bottom ... but the info on those discs is carried on the thin film on the top. For regular CDs/DVDs you can easily destroy them beyond any recovery by simply scratching the top film off. The better CDs/DVDs are more of a hassle since they sandwich the film between two plastic discs, but most discs don't and have the film totally exposed ont he top of the disc, easy to rip right off with a fingernail or knife.
