Why would you do this?
I can only think of a couple of reasons, and they all involve evading the law and subpeonas. If you can think of a non-criminal reason, let me know.The latest revelations about top secret information traversing Hillary Clinton's private email server have triggered accusations that someone in her "inner circle" likely stripped the classification markings, illegally. The claims come after the Clinton campaign stuck to the argument that the Democratic presidential candidate, while secretary of state, never dealt with emails that were "marked" classified at the time. "Hillary only used her personal account for unclassified email. No information in her emails was marked classified at the time she sent or received them," campaign Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri said in a statement to supporters Wednesday. But a State Department official told Fox News that the intelligence community inspector general, who raised the most recent concerns about Clinton's emails, made clear that at least one of those messages contained information that only could have come from the intelligence community. "If so, they would have had to come in with all the appropriate classification markings," the official said.The only thought I have is this: 1. Hillary knows it's illegal to view classified information on a private email system. 2. Hillary wants to view classified data. 3. Hillary also wants a private email system. 4. Therefore, Hillary instructs her minions to strip out all classified markers on emails, so she can receive them on her private email system, while claiming she didn't know they were classified, because they were not "marked" as classified. And they weren't so marked because she told her minions to strip out such markings. All Clinton defenses rely, ultimately, on the principle of Implausible Deniability. In addition, the computer system that holds that e-mail automatically has the classification of the material on it, whether it's marked that way or not. To "sanitize" it, you now have to either destroy the system (and all other the email touched) or completely wipe (multiple times!) and reload. Usually it means destroying the hard drives and putting new ones in.
"Spillage" (actual term) is a yooouge pain in the ass.

In order to get the SIPR e-mail over to NIPR, you have to use external media, like Bradley Manning used the Lady Gaga disc to get information outside of the secured spaces. Burn the SIPR info onto a disc and place on a NIPR computer.
That is an intentional act designed to defeat the security features of the SIPR system. It requires knowledge and intent. It is not something that is done by accident.
Furthermore, the NIPR has a feature that looks for text in e-mails that may be classified. If a NIPR e-mail has classified tags at the beginning of the paragraph, the NIPR server will flag it.
So, either way, the people who sent the classified info to a private server broke the law.
Hillary, her attorney and her staff are going to jail.

That being said, if she instructed her minions to remove the classifications from the e-mails and "just give her the good stuff," then the word you're looking for is conspiracy.
If her underlings reviewed her mail and removed the classifications at her direction, she is guilty.
If they did the stripping on their own initiative, without Hillary's direction or knowledge, the minions are guilty; however, minions who are cleared for classified documents are themselves holders of security clearances, and know better than to remove the classifications.
If Hillary directed her minions who did not have appropriate clearance to possess and view the classified documents and process them for her, then Hillary is guilty of allowing access by unauthorized persons to classified documents.
Hillary's camp is saying this whole mess is a witch-hunt, but you know, if the broom fits...

This may have been done just because the boss wants it done... or just because someone thought it's what the boss wants. Every one of her staff knows she doesn't use official email, including secure email, but they know (or believe) she must have this information to do her job. So let's bend the rules a little. STILL CRIMINAL. And Hillary abetted this through, in the best case, willful disregard for national security.
It also may have been done with other criminal intent in mind. The assumed need to pass this resource to non-cleared people, for personal gain of some sort (money to the Clinton foundation, or money to Sidney Blumenthal's Chinese bank account.)
The Clintons surround themselves with people who behave like criminals and seem (It looks obvious to me) to be willing to do whatever it takes to enrich or empower themselves -- and that includes severely damaging the national security the same way a car thief will destroy a car just to get the radio out of it.

When you work with classified information and it suddenly comes across your private Blackberry or email server or whatever UNMARKED AS CLASSIFIED, then you really can't plead ignorance that it wasn't marked. You work with it. You know it's classified. And if you see it unmarked, well, that's when you start to roll heads.
There's no real deniability here. Clinton had to have known that what she was looking at on her BB was classified.

Yes, but you don't just forward that message to an unclass system. It's a complex, multi-person-verification, automation-override process of getting that scrubbed document to an unclass system. Or a thumb drive. Which is a huge no-go all on it's own in a classified environment.

Of course, if they were at State Dept., they probably had a couple of different computers - each specifically designed to handle different classifications (Top Secret, Secret, Unclassified). So, the investigators would need to subpoena and receive all three.
Then, they'd have to perform forensic analysis to determine when the sender cut/paste the classified information into an unclassified email.

If I remember correctly, and I believe I do, each page of any classification is stamped or permanently marked with that classification. So even if the cover sheet wa removed, each page would be marked.

Who set up the routing tables to send the Secretary of State's emails there? Who opened the firewall to pass document to and from that server? Was *everybody* OK with this? Did *nobody* point out just how crazy this was, and attempt to stop it? Did the Super-Genius in the Oval Office just grin and shake his head at the prospect of the government's high-level secrets in effect being posted on Facebook?
