British authorities on Wednesday charged a radical preacher under the country’s terrorism act for inviting support for the Islamic State (IS) group through lectures published online. Anjem Choudary, 48, is a well-known figure in Britain and is regularly interviewed by the media for his views on Islam and the Middle East. He is also the former leader of a banned radical group called al-Muhajiroun. The Crown Prosecution Service said Choudary and a second man, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, 32, had been charged with inviting support for the IS group, a proscribed organisation, between June 29, 2014 and March 6, 2015.... "It is alleged that Anjem Choudary and Mohammed Rahman invited support for IS in individual lectures which were subsequently published online."In various interviews, when asked if he supported ISIS, Choudary would not quite answer, because his answer would be inciting terrorism. What he would say is something like All good, faithful Muslims are required to support the Caliphate, without specifying if he himself was a good and faithful Muslim. Seems like the British authorities have seen through that brilliant smokescreen.

I suspect that doing things like helping someone plan a murder, or deliberately getting someone wound-up and then pointing them at a victim crosses the border from speech to "conspiracy" anyway (technically).

Good points made above about the UK and free speech(short answer: there really isn't any).
But meh, overall.
The UK is pretty much lost. The few remaining sensible policies (like not adopting the Euro) are mostly vestigial, and inertial, common sense. It's a world without many effective forces for good to start with, and the UK was long the only major one besides the US.
The US is now essentially done, as far as a positive world role goes (idiots like the current freak administration + dim non-"interventionists" = US off the roster). The UK is now unable to apply serious military force to any scenario bigger than some small Third World ex-colonial policing-up, say pushing around a Sgt. Doe-equivalent in Africa. The budgets, and spirit and traditions, of British military excellence and effectiveness, are broken and aren't going to be repaired.

I agree its a line we have to be very careful crossing, but when you're directly and deliberately inciting and encouraging people to commit acts of terrorism, sponsoring terrorist activity, and calling for people to die repeatedly, its time to take a closer look at the very least.
I don't like the idea of jail time, though. I like the idea of being banished. Why make the US pay for housing and feeding them, then releasing them later?

There are limits to the free expression of all our rights, though. When they infringe on another right, they must be limited. That's why its illegal to slander or libel someone, for example.
We should always err on the side of caution for the sake of everyone's liberty, but these guys have crossed the line over and over with virtually no consequences.

Semi-O/T. A mother and three small kids came in where I volunteer yesterday. She was an immigrant from Lyons, France (9 years ago). Jewish. I asked her "how are things?" back home. She said - very bad. Everyone she knows and her relatives who are able, are planning to emigrate. Mostly to Israel, US next, Australia also.
After commiserating with her a bit about what a tragedy it is that this is happening, I snarked lightly about how badly things were going (in a different sense) here in the US. Gave me the wide-eyed look, slight jaw drop, and "yes! I can't believe it! (then with an ironic smirk) where will we go next?". We weren't referring to the same problem, obviously, but others.
Meanwhile (totally OT), slightly odd that the 4 F-18 drivers who came by didn't know what the quad ZSU-23 sitting in front of the museum was, had to ask me. Incredulously explained that it was the Soviet bloc/related militaries' stand-by AAA, meant to be used in massed formations to create a lead curtain, like the more sophisticated task force air defense system the US used in the Pacific in WWII.

I was referring more to people with a green card, which is more than "here on a visa". Green Card is basically citizen in waiting. If you've gone through the proper channels, waited in line, filed the paperwork, paid the fees and basically played by the rules, you're good to go in my book.

Nope - real F-18 drivers (won't say which squadron), brown pajamas, high/tights and all. New (at least to their current duty station), but the real thing. One of the four seemed totally unfamiliar, the others semi-unfamiliar. These guys get threat/intel briefings and have to study up on things like this - at least they used to. One of them did come to lifea bit when I said I wasn't sure what the current situation was with the 23s but that I'm sure the Norks and Chinese still had plenty, and probably the Russkis too. He nodded and said "yeah, that's right".

The illegals show these false documents in order to work. The employers take them at face value. So do low-level welfare bureaucrats.

Unlike all the other plans, the Fair Tax Plan focuses on who is a citizen, not on who isn't. Citizenship is established, the person is listed as such on a database and everything the government does that interacts with the citizen is tied to that.
With income taxes, people who are not citizens can (and are compelled to) establish SS accounts and pay into the system.

I know, I know. Like many, I find it increasingly difficult to even describe the situation. A president who makes crude anti-Jewish dog whistles, while making no sense, contradicting himself, and presenting a junior high school-level "argument" for his obviously indefensibly stupid policies. All on a topic of vital national importance.
Limbaugh (on as background noise) noted that his Iran speech is full of silliness and self-contradiction - but who is there to challenge him?
The answer would be an opposition party, even individual opposition figures with experience or stature in a given area - of course.
Something beyond idiotic sound bites and talking points (yes, all that 95% of Beltway types are capable of, any more). Aggressively deconstruct and ridicule and denounce the idiocy of this administration in unapologetic terms.
And it's even worse than some here think. Apparently Bambi told Dem congressmen - incl. prominent Jewish members - in effect, to f**k off on the Iran deal. With/without congressional approval, US policy was fixed and not going to change.
