Get Ready for a Shock: Far-Left Cartoonist Ted Rall's Claims About Being Oppressed After 9/11 Are Contradicted By Recorded Reality

Like Neil DeGrasse Tyson, though, he stands by his memory.

A left-wing cartoonist’s recent depiction of a 14-year-old encounter with the LAPD has gotten him canned as a freelance contributor to the LA Times after the paper said it had "serious questions" about the accuracy of the encounter.

He claimed that he was "roughed up" by a cop for jaywalking in 2001.

But there's an audiotape of the encounter, as well as multiple paper records (including Rall's own complaint).

These appear to disagree with Rall's newer, more histrionic memories of the minor, barely-worth-mentioning encounter.

...

"An audiotape of the encounter recorded by the police officer does not back up Rall's assertions; it gives no indication that there was physical violence of any sort by the policeman or that Rall's license was thrown into the sewer or that he was handcuffed," the [Los Angeles] Times wrote on Thursday in the space above where Rall’s blog post was originally published. "Nor is there any evidence on the recording of a crowd of shouting onlookers."

Rall says he stands by his post.

This is hard to square with what the audiotape recorded. If he was so roughed up by the cop, abused, with his license tossed in the sewer as a crowd of frightened onlookers cried out to let this innocent man go free -- why oh why did he ask the cop for recommendations for what restaurant to eat at that night when the encounter was over?

No, that's not a joke. That's apparently what happened.

Here's Rall's explanation. You might want to brace yourself against something solid, but with some cushioning.

"Listening to the tape now, I can't imagine what I was thinking," Rall writes. "The only explanation I can fathom is that I had classic Stockholm Syndrome. I was stunned at the time. Not that I'm comparing myself with a rape victim -- far from it -- but now I better understand why sometimes a raped woman will question pressing charges or call a date-rapist at home hours after he left her. I was blathering nonsense, I guess."

Mm-hm.

I frequently discuss the left-wing as not being possessed by a politics so much as by a psychological disorder -- neuroses and hysterias which they project on to the world. They scream at their hysterias the same way as any disordered mental patient might, except they've ritualized and codified their hysterias in a cant which they've taught the other hysterics. This cant, this jargon of disordered-mind speech, is the leftist Culture of Complaint.

Walk into any mental health clinic and you will find dozens of patients there claiming to be raped on a weekly (or daily) basis by the staff, and much abused by conspirators in their families or at their jobs.

These people have simply taken the standard paranoid hysterias known to every psychiatrist and given them the veneer of a passable "reality," by claiming them to be "political," and hence part of the actual world.

25 In the video, at least four shirtless men who appeared to be in blackface makeup, and one dressed as the US president, chased another dressed as a banana off the Flugtag ramp.

The banana footage immediately sparked criticism from anti-discrimination activists. Robert Ustian, a supporter of the Russian club CSKA and founder of the group CSKA Fans Against Racism, first spotted the video and said it showed that Russians often don't understand the hurtfulness of their actions.

"They think this is funny, that this video with Obama and black people chasing a banana is funny," said Ustian. "It shows that there's an issue with racism in our society that is not being raised."

Photoshopped memes showing Obama with bananas and calling the US president a monkey have appeared frequently on the Russian internet, including on a site of images often used by paid pro-Kremlin trolls.

I've said this for a lonnnnggg time.

Since they started lionizing single mothers.

When you normalize (or encourage) "victim" status, you provide an excuse for people to make themselves (or ahem misremember themselves) as "victims".

Not a healthy thing for a society. Or a persons mental health.

Not even that.

Rall can't draw. And in the few cartoons of his that I've seen (the only one I really remember is one in which he diagrammed the process that the Republicans were supposedly going to use to steal the 2004 election via electronic voting machines), he doesn't even attempt to be humorous. If Rall were to ever introduce a character like Duke, you'd know for a fact that he'd stolen the idea from someone else (Trudeau, for instance ), because Rall has never shown the wit necessary to write a character like that.

Let's also just recall that during the investigation which ended up with Libby as bycatch for imagined perjury, the investigators were really hunting for the person who had leaked the identity of Valerie Plame.

That individual was in actuality Richard Armitage, aide to Colin Powell. Powell was fully aware of this fact, and yet both Powell and Armitage sat there in stolid silence while the whole huge farcical witch hunt progressed around them. Scooping up Libby as it went.

If Armitage or Powell had simply come forth with the truth right out of the gate, Libby would never have had to endure the endless rounds of depositions that ended up in a career-destroying charge over ordinary lapses of memory.

Especially the Federales.

Therefore to be safe, demand to allow taping and the best safety is to have someone else present, preferably a lawyer.

They have no right to enter your home to question you. You do not have to let them in. They will use social manipulation to get inside and then anything they see can and will be used against you.

Unless they have a warrant, they cannot force you to be interviewed at their office. (although they could arrest you on the spot but then you immediately have protections that they won't want you to have, plus the have to show cause for the arrest)

You do not have to answer their questions except basics about who you are and where you live. You have to balance the possibility of antagonizing them to their manipulating what you say to make you look guilty.

Be polite at all times. No snark, no anti government statements. The less you say the better off you are.

You are under no obligation to answer a knock on the door by anyone.

And do not open the door and talk to them. Talk through a window or ignore them.

If they have a warrant, they'll break the door down. If they don't have a warrant, they'll leave.

If you open the door, they'll force their way in.

Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at July 31, 2015 03:58 PM (9mTYi)

I'd avoid that construct. Once you give them permission to search, you can't revoke it. So say, "officer, I do not consent to any unwarranted searches of my vehicle. If you have a warrant, please give me a moment to get my lawyer on the phone."

And remember SCOTUS recently ruled that it was unreasonable for the cops to expect you to wait around for 20-30 minutes for their police dogs to show up or for a warrant to be issued. Just keep asking "am I free to go? This traffic stop is taking an unreasonable amount of time. Am I free to go?" and keep recording.

I've found that when they ask those double sided questions to just answer: "I don't have anything to say to that, sir/ma'am".

Try not to use legalese sounding phrases that you see online. It pisses them off and they'll try to catch you up.

Most of them know the limits and if you're polite but say nothing (and there's ways of speaking without saying anything) then they can't find reason to hold you.

I have NEVER, EVER talked my way out of a ticket or convinced the cop that I was right and they were wrong. And few people have not matter what you may have heard. Don't even try.

Yes they may be doing something illegal, yes it's demeaning but so is spending the night or nights in a holding cell with some very aromatic and unsavory characters who have even less respect for you and your personal safety.

And for some reason, cops can deceive you in to consenting to a search but its illegal for anyone else to deceive you in to consenting to anything. We call that fraud.

The ruling, IIRC, basically said that the officer can take no longer than is reasonably necessary to complete the purposes for the stop. Once that's over, they can't hold you so they can get their K9 unit to "alert" on your car based on the handler's cues and manufacture fraudulent probable cause.

Right. The correct response is "no, I have nothing illegal in my car."

and then no matter how they phrase the follow up question, you need to get the point across that you do not consent to a search without a warrant.

And they'll use passive voice / weird phrasing / etc. so just saying "yes" or "no" is not really a good way of doing it.

That's why I've used (twice, successfully) "I do not consent to any unwarranted searches of my vehicle." and both times the cops have backed down.

Yeah. Exactly.

The cops escalate the violence and force so much (per their training to "gain control of the situation") that people freak out and go in to "flight or fight" mode, and, well... That's how people get killed.

And the cops are all hopped up on adrenaline and screaming and yelling and standing / walking aggressively, so they're not really thinking logically at all either.

It's really a very stupid and dangerous way to police a neighborhood.

Of my 3 friends who are cops -- two are the meat head types. Nice enough guys, but massive muscles -- living the Jersey Shore lifestyle of partying hard, going to the beach, picking up girls, and lifting weights. Both are covered in tattoos.

Both are quick to lose their temper and would not be someone I'd want to be stopped by.

My other buddy is really "by the books" but he's more normal. Again, I'm sure everyone he talks to gets a ticket / gets arrested, and I would not want to run in to him (not knowing him) on the streets.

But I wouldn't be scared he'd lose control and hurt me.

My other two buddies? Yeah, would not me shocked to see one or both of them in the news for an unjustified shooting or something. Neither are very smart, both are quick to lose their temper. Not a great combination for a cop.

190 "I have NEVER, EVER talked my way out of a ticket or convinced the cop that I was right and they were wrong. "

I did, once. Quite by accident. As a young driver in a very small town, I ran a red light. It was a terminal brain freeze and I lived through it.

The cop was going to write a ticket and I said (mumbled out loud) to myself, "My old man is going to beat me to death."

The cop knew my old man, and suspected it would actually happen and didn't want it on his conscience. He let me go. I found out later that back in that time it would work because no cop wanted to think that writing a ticket would get some poor kid beaten half to death.

I don't think that works any more.

The last ticket I've gotten was $15 for the violation, and $120 for court costs even though I just went to the court and paid the ticket without actually going 'to court'.

The cop car did have a really nice full page printer, and printed out the infraction to about two pages. . . on thermal paper, 8 1/2 by 11.

197 Used to be that cops liked it when people would get out of their car and approach them instead of the other way around.

But due to people getting run over by passing cars and some cops getting jumped, they don't like that anymore.

Best things to do:

Pull way over pointed off to the side. Roll down the windows, turn off the engine (unless it's really cold winter) If it's night turn on your dome light. Get your license, registration and insurance card out, don't wait for them to ask. They'll be busy for a bit calling in your plate so you have time to do so.

Put both hands on the wheel. Don't look back at them while they walk up. Do every thing you can to show you're harmless.

Be polite. Answer any actual questions. Obey any instructions no matter if they seem unfair or stupid.

Arguing just ups the aggression.

Usually, cops will note all this and cut you a little slack because you're trying to present a non threatening posture.

Don't have crap all over your floors, don't try to shove anything under the seat after the stop. If you have something that could cause problems you should have had it hidden better in the first place dumbass.

Gee, who didn't see that coming?

Industrial pollution all around Peking.

The government jailing foreign journalists investigating corruption in Qatar (still slated to host the World Cup in 2022).

The IOC and FIFA: like the UN and the Democratic Party, rotten with corruption and pandering to the world's great shitholes and shadiest dealers for $$$.

And bords of a shitfeather do flock together.

I used to live in a city in the northeast and (i still do) drive a LOT for work.

Most of my interactions with cops have been in the north east, but I've had a few in the south too.

Definitely a different mindset in more rural areas.

In cities, they're like an occupying army. I get why black people living in those neighborhoods are scared of the cops.

238 Get your license, registration and insurance card out, don't wait for them to ask. They'll be busy for a bit calling in your plate so you have time to do so.

Put both hands on the wheel. Don't look back at them while they walk up. Do every thing you can to show you're harmless.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger

I'm going with, no, you don't fetch your documents before they ask for the very reason you just stated in the next sentence.

Hands on wheel, window down. That's it. They ask for docs, you tell them where they are and ask permission to retrieve.

I wonder if the US is going to start shipping grain to Russia again?

Apparently one of Russia's agricultural regions is getting hammered by locusts. Unfortunately, the story is apparently still in the "developing" state, so I can't get anything more than the fact that it's happening, and that the Minister of Agriculture has declared a State of Emergency.

Most of my recollections are from when I was younger.

Most cops go after young guys, cute girls, beat up cars, cars with teenagers, cars with teenagers front and back at night, Blacks, Hispanics, old men, old ladies.

The people who are actually criminals and breaking the law don't get stopped that often because they're driving religiously within the law, check their lights, drive the speed limit etc.

Outlaws make the best citizens/drivers cause they don't want to get caught for the other shit they're doing.

It's an upside down world we live in.

I swear this is hell and when you die, anywhere else is heaven by comparison. (sure there's moments but they're there just to give everybody hope. Hope is the great enslaver. We do all sorts of irrational stuff due to hope.)

242 Grump, In most states, if there is a light on your vehicle, it must be operational. Even the optional fog lights.

I think there should be a cause of action against police departments who fail to perform appropriate background checks or due diligence on cops who hurt or kill somebody unlawfully and turn out to have giant red flags in their past. Negligent hiring and negligent credentialing (against hospitals) are recognized causes of action, and I don't see why this should be any different.

I don't open the window until I'm ordered to. Then I open it partially.

If the cop wants to be a dick (and this has happened to me), he'll stick his head in the car, say he smells weed, then all bets are off.

Y'all are being picky about the timing.

Do what you want.

In 50 years of driving I've never had a problem and I'm referring to that.

I've driven well over 250,000 miles. Across country, in all the major cities, in rural areas where the cops got nothing to do but eff with you.

Buy that's probably my white privilege.

249 A quickcheck of ALA CODE § 32-5-240 : Alabama Code - Section 32-5-240: REQUIRED LIGHTING EQUIPMENT AND ILLUMINATING DEVICES OF VEHICLES reveals

"(1) Every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer and any other vehicle which is being drawn at the end of a train of vehicles shall be equipped with at least one tail lamp mounted on the rear which, when lighted as required, emits a red light plainly visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear. When vehicles are drawn in a train, only the tail lamp on the rearmost vehicle need actually be seen from the distance specified."

Members of the AZ Sheriff's dept don't find it too amusing when you pass them at high speed. Limit 55. My speed? 105. I was trying not to be late for work. And no I did not pass him at that speed on purpose and I was one of only 4 vehicles on the road at the time.
He was in between two diesel trucks with trailers and had no markings on the rear of his SUV.

259 I frequently discuss the left-wing as not being possessed by a politics so much as by a psychological disorder -- neuroses and hysterias which they project on to the world. They scream at their hysterias the same way as any disordered mental patient might, except they've ritualized and codified their hysterias in a cant which they've taught the other hysterics.

I know someone very very well -- OK, heck, it's a relative of mine -- who illustrates this perfectly.

For her entire life, she's had "something wrong" with her. Not a physical or intellectual deficit -- she's biologically intelligent and attractive -- but instead some kind of hard-to-pin-down moral and personality disorder. She incredibly narcissistic but also "grabby" -- constantly stepping over the line and taking/using/abusing things which are not hers. She also feels no compunction about abusing "systems of kindness" and unspoken social compacts. She's also reflexively defensive whenever she's in the wrong (which is basically always), flinging blame at innocents around her.

She'll come over to someone's house, surreptitiously dig out an antique bottle of liquor at the back of the cabinet, then casually chug it alone in the hallway right there -- and when caught red-handed, will say, "Hey, you weren't using it." To the reply "That's because the bottle was special to me and I was saving it for a significant occasion," she'd reply, "Isn't my coming over to visit a special occasion? I guess you must hate me and think I'm just a piece of trash."

If she rear-ends someone with her car in a fender-bender, she'll lie outrageously to the responding officer, blaming the other person unfairly, then when contradicted by witnesses, claim there is a "conspiracy" against her -- and inevitably file a baseless nuisance complaint against the cop for "police brutality," even though there was no physical contact of any kind.

When engaging in some kind of idiotic bound-to-get-caught petty financial fraud (lying on credit applications or kiting checks or whatever), she has no compunction filing out an innocent relative's name and address on the form, so that the innocent person ends up getting charged when the fraud comes to light.

Stuff like that. All the time.

How is this relevant to Ace's post?

Well, this relative (do I even need to say it?) identifies as far left-wing, and has on occasion jumped with both feet into extremist political groups. Groups whose mass-actions mirrored her personal behavior.

So, yes, Ace is correct. Short version: Leftism is a personality disorder.

Posted by: zombie at July 31, 2015 05:02 PM (jBuUi)

262 He's a Leftist, a liar, and a shill -- so pretty much par for the course. Reality and Leftist Dogma never, ever intersect.

We have Earnest lying brazenly about the Planned Parenthood scandal, this waste of human skin lying about his encounter with the police, and Obama the Serial Liar lying whenever he opens his purple-lipped cock-sucking lips.

It's a feature, not a bug, with the Left.

263 Ted who?

Posted by: PubliusII at July 31, 2015 05:46 PM (7Bke9)

264 I've written this a few times before in various comments, but I have a Ted Rall story; it's my main celebrity story besides my OJ Simpson and Nicole tale. Anyhow, I was a summer housing mate (assigned not voluntary) with Ted Rall and two others at Columbia University in 1984. He was (temporarily) expelled from Columbia College cause he and a pal were dropping chunks of ice 10 stories down onto Morningside Drive. Back then at least, Ted was really high-strung and stayed up all night doing drugs n such, was my impression at least.
