I agree, but we're part the point of what should be. Screw it; make welfare permanent. But let the market decide.

Roughly half of the government does legitimate government stuff. The legitimacy is debatable, but they're actual services - prisons, embassies, aircraft carriers, the Library of Congress, the CDC, the National Weather Service, etc. The cost of this part of government is funded by tax revenues, more or less.

Then there's Social Security, EBT benefits, etc., which is funded by selling debt instruments and pays for all the pyramid schemes, redistribution schemes, the interest on the debt all this creates, and now ObamaCare. Let the market decide if this is a good idea. Let all of this continue for as long as this part of the "government" can find investors to sustain these functions.

Spin them off. Let these functions last for as long as they can sustain themselves.

When teh government -- especially the federales -- turns any kind of task over to private-sector operators, they simultaneously set up a massive new bureaucracy, staffed largely by AA hires, to "oversee" whatever work they're farming out. A perfect example is "healthcare" here in MA. Public companies front for a mass of state employees -- mostly, from what I can tell, full of Russians and Choom Boy's broze and sisses -- who can't be bothered to answer phones or respond to requests for information/assistance.

In fact, if you were to take a rollcall in D.C., you'd likely find that each "privatized" operation probably has a 10:1 government administrator/worker ratio.

Later this afternoon I have a meeting with my boss about the annual corporate performance review/goals/bullshit. It's a waste of time, because I won't be here in February for the evaluation because I'm moving out of Indiana in September, but I haven't told anyone I'm leaving yet; my two-week notice is in August no matter what I choose to be the last*. And as much as I'm looking forward to never going there again, they are still "reducing headcount" and I would like to choose my last day and not find a box and a note from HR saying "fuck you, get out" waiting for me tomorrow morning**.

SO...am I honest with my boss and suggest we use the time to work on "stuff he'd like to see completed/documented"? Or just pretend everything is normal and proceed with my plan?

* I was thinking Sept 1 as a good last day because The Company will
pay my health insurance for the whole month if I work that day (the last
guy to leave left on June 1). Slightly moochy but they write the rules....

** Although except for paying for COBRA, the idea of having all August off to do some things around Indiana I haven't done over these last four years is appealing.

Funny, I basically told my boss FU on Monday. Long short, I've been doing the jobs of three people since the beginning of the year and finally lost my cool. I said, basically, I didn't want the job anymore, I was sick and tired of it and of everyone around me. She said, "if you want to go, fine." Mrs. P, however, wants me to stick it out for three more months so she can get on her new company's insurance.

So my boss knows I'm looking for another job. I'm expecting that they'll quick-rush someone to take my place and broom me out by the end of August, but that doesn't bother me. We're financially secure enough to last until I can get something else; I'm hoping to transfer into an editing / proofing position, which would suit me much better than what I'm doing now.

So I haven't been posting because of stress here and a build up of anger, frustration and outrigh depression. But I appreciate the prayers, FS. And I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do, HR.

Hah! Yeah. Thanks for the good advice everyone. As far as COBRA, I estimate it about $1400, so if I take a month off I'd better really enjoy it...OTOH, I don't know how long it will take me to find a job after I move, so I'll probably just suck it up and live with having never seen Clifty Falls.
