Oh.

"More cowbell" is an American pop culture catchphrase originally derived from an April 8, 2000 Saturday Night Live comedy sketch which fictionalized the recording of the song "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. The sketch featured guest host Christopher Walken as music producer "The Bruce Dickinson" (as opposed to Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson) and regular cast member Will Ferrell, who wrote the sketch with playwright Donnell Campbell, as fictional cowbell player Gene Frenkle.

I remember this...

136 I hadn't considered that, Buck Dharma mentions that short attention spans have harmed music sales. He's got a good point; look at how songs are crafted now. Not only are they short, but repetitive, so no one has to think or pay attention to a song.

And the lack of ability to pay attention means people don't buy albums, they buy individual songs.

206 Alas, I lack Smithsonian Channel.
Maybe it's on DVD?

Check the Smithsonian Channel website

I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me...
She showed me her room, isn't it good, norwegian wood....

I think she's an ex-Scientologist.

I think they would be worth the purchase. The narration can lean left at times but it's rare.

212 Scientology lost a lot of members when they took a very anti gay stance and were adamant about shunning those kicked out including family which is sick.

Paul Haggis' daughter came out as gay and they ordered him to shun her and he told them to get fked.

213 Ah, Amazon has AA DVDs, divided by regions of the USA.

214 I use to be hot for Anne Archer but she is a hard core scientologist.

If you saw that scientologist documentary, the part about its origins was interesting - all the weird stuff at Cal Poly.

215 Well, I can watch the CA episode free on Amazon.

216 Ha!
I hate that stupid Norwegian Wood song.
Boring and pretentious drivel....to me, that is.

I really like Run for Your Life though, even if it would never get past the censors today.

The less Lennon tried to be cool and deeep, the better he was. Or rather, the more I like him.

217 Anne Archer is very beautiful but I assume all actors are loonies unless proven otherwise.

Fatal Attraction wasn't really about the crazy bunny boiler at all. It was about a freaking idiot with such lousy judgment he goes after an unattractive freak the day his stunning wife is away.

In the end, it was the wife who had to do what needed to be done.

219 Why did Buck want to talk about music? He must get asked these questions a billion times. Dont get me wrong, I thought it was great. I thought he wd talk about politics. Politically wise he sounded normal.

Posted by: Bruce With a Wang! at July 24, 2015 05:57 PM (iQIUe)

220 i'm glad they talked about music.
brought me back to the good old days.
thanks Buck.

221 "183 "we never were a singles band" man, the understatement of the year. So esoteric and strange and wild and interesting. Too intellectual and too much variety to be singles oriented."

Imaginos was an outstanding concept. But that was at the tail of any airplay for them.

Posted by: Axeman at July 24, 2015 07:47 PM (UPLiu)

222 The words "Donald" and "Roeser" appear nowhere on the page--does he really just go by "Buck" these days?

Posted by: Axeman at July 24, 2015 07:48 PM (UPLiu)

223 "Then Came The Last Days of May" Buck's best evah!

"Me-262" Best rock song about a jet evah!

"7 Screaming Diz-busters" Best rock song about a Diz-buster evah!!

"Buck's Boogie" Best Boogie By Buck EVAH!

224 Don Roeser is one of my heros of guitar. He had his own style. He played clean with no clams. He was/IS melodic in his solos. You can SING all his lines. Great phrasing. Good tone! Good Voice. hell, he sang ALL the songs that charted, fer buck's sake!

I got a walnut SG. You don't see them in walnut often. Yet Every Single Day of my life, I look at that guitar and think "It would be so cool if you were white like Buck's".

Great get, good chat, just needed more musician and guitarist queries.

"may these englishmen live that i might die? JUNKERS JOMO 004!"

225 BOC was one of the great bands from the 70s and Buck remains an incredible guitar player. I am proud to have seen them at least 20 times since 1975; once, in 1977, a friend and I drove from Chicago to see them at the Hammond (Indiana) Civic Center; the crowd loved the Cult, but hated the opening act (the Dictators). Buck will be pleased to know that The Legend Lives On- last year, while waiting for my car at Wynn Las Vegas, I noticed that the hipster next to me, who was half my age, had the BOC logo tattoo on his leg. We bonded instantly.

226 Coming late to the conversation here, but just had to second #233 on Then Came the Last Days of May. I remember having bought the album (BOC's self-titled debut album) years after its release, not really knowing who they were (although my dad had Agents of Fortune, so I'd heard the name), primarily because I thought the cover looked cool. Buck's opening intro solo bit on this song made me a fan instantly; I proceeded to get every other one of their albums. Some are better than others, but every one has some good stuff.

So, that's my favorite BOC song, but Secret Treaties is probably my favorite album (as with the songs, it's tough to pick just one), and while I'm generally much more interested in the music than the words, the chorus of I Love the Night has the best rhyming pattern ever. Pure genius... a Buck tune, of course.

Also, Astronomy is the best Metallica track ever... and the 3rd best version of that song -- right after the Secret Treaties and Imaginos versions.
