I've seen a couple of Kasich teevee ads here in the Great Northeast (MA). Damn, how heartwarming! He's just so friggin' caring, and seems to be in it just for the Little People out there beyond the Evil Big Cities.

In fact, the distinction you are making is the fundamental level on which the disagreement on abortion really rests. Pro-lifers are not at all interested in chaining women up to be used as baby factories, without any say whatsoever in their role in human reproduction. The issue, as I see it anyway, isn't about choice. It's about whether murdering unborn babies should be a relatively casual thing like having a boil lanced or a wart frozen off or whether it should be a serious moral issue carefully weighed and undertaken with due reticence because it's such a horrible thing to do. As such, it shouldn't be brushed off cavalierly like the choice between a mocha latte and espresso for the morning drink. Calling the aborted baby parts what they actually are allows rational people to discuss the subject honestly. Calling them "pieces of tissue" or "products of conception" is an intentional deception in order to make the discussion about choice or reproductive rights, which isn't actually the point on which most people disagree, I don't think.
I consider myself a pro-lifer, but I'm not necessarily looking for a 100% full-on, no-exceptions ban. But I will not let this ghoul with a medical license piss on me and tell me that it's raining.

It's clear and fair. Best of all, it can be filled out on the back of a postcard and will save Americans big bucks on accountants and massive amounts of time wasted attempting to decipher the tax code.

Interestingly, if the pregnant woman is getting an abortion, oops, I mean a choice, the blob of cells is only referred to as a fetus, but if the same liberal woman is carrying the pregnancy to term, she refers to the blob of cells, not as a fetus, but as a baby.
It's kinda like that thing where a white woman can decide that she's black, or a male olympic star can just decide that he's a girl.

1) Yes, people use euphemisms.
2) Euphemisms are used when the subject is one that people don't like to talk about don't WANT to talk about.
3) "He got caught with Rosie Palm," is an example of the former (because being caught mid-masturbation is embarrassing as hell). "Daddy went upstate" is an example of the latter (who wants to say their dad's gone because he went to prison?)
4) But euphemisms used to deliberately dilute and obfuscate a conversation are not merely euphemisms, nor are their meanings widely understood. They are calculated assaults on the language and are designed to confuse an argument to the point of stultification.
5) In other words, "light in the loafers" is a euphemism. "Products of conception" is Orwellian newspeak. The former's normal. The latter's depraved.

Newsflash: The US Government does not, should not, and cannot have its laws comport with every religion on the planet.
An example:
Our government allows pork to be sold in stores and serves pork in its cafeterias. Yet somehow Jews and Muslims raise Jewish and Muslim children who do not eat pork.
They serve pork in school lunches. And though no one is forced to eat pork against their beliefs, Jewish and Muslim people who work in those school cafeterias are forced to prepare and serve pork to students and staff. Even though they are forbidden from consuming pork and believe it to be unclean.
Oh noes! The government is ruining Islam! Wrong. The government sees no rational basis to ban pork products and is neutral on religion as it should be.
We don't ban things just because some religion (or all religions) don't like it. We never will.
No one is forcing anyone to get gay married. No one is forcing anyone to like gay marriage.
The Government isn't trying to stop you from being a Christian. They just aren't going to help you do it any more. Just like the Government doesn't help Jews raise Jews and Scientologists raise Scientologists.
If you think this country knocking Christians off their preferred religion pedestal (and down with the rest of the religions) is a bad thing, that's because you are a Christian who was used to being catered to. You don't need it. You don't deserve it. Christianity will be better without the Government treating it like it's special. It's not. It never was.

I didn't mention abortion. I mentioned gay marriage in the context of religious freedom.
I'm as pro choice as, I believe, our gracious host, ace is. I don't love abortion, but the alternative is worse. I don't have issues with limiting abortions, but I'm also not going to put a woman in prison for choosing not to bring an unwanted child into this world.
And "baby parts" is also a euphemism. "Fetus parts" would be accurate. But a fetus is not a "baby." When a woman becomes pregnant, the couple says "we are having a baby!" Not "We have a baby!" The fetus becomes a baby at birth.
And "Murder" is a legal word that may or may not include abortion depending on where it occurs. In my state (Washington) an abortion is not a murder. So I don't support murder.

I wouldn't support that being a factor in the decision of whether to abort, but once the decision to abort is lawfully made, or once the tumor removed, or once the cause of death is determined, why not get whatever use you can out of whatever there is to be used? I don't know what better use you can make out of a destroyed fetus. Do you? Eat it? Bury it? Stuff it? Seems like putting it to some scientific purpose is the best of all options.
I'm an organ donor and I think it's stupid that organ donation is a thing you have to opt into. I think it's a thing you should have to opt out of and if you do opt out, you are opting out of receiving any benefit from donated organs.
As for baking gay cakes. I think that no religion proscribes who you can or can't bake a cake for. I think the justification that someone's religion doesn't allow them to make a gay marriage cake is bullshit. There were (and are) religious arguments against interracial marriage. So can a religious baker refuse to bake wedding cakes for interracial couples? I think not.
I mean I understand that, in theory a baker should be able to refuse to serve anyone they want. At the same time, a public business having a blanket policy to not serve an entire class of people is wrong. This kind of stuff is always tricky. It's OK to fire a black person. It's not OK to systematically fire all the black people in your company simply because they are black.
I just wish we could flash forward 30 years to the point where you guys are accusing us of being the real homophobes. Can we just get to that point? They are here, they are queer. Can you all just fucking get used to it already? Gay marriage is the law of the land and isn't going anywhere.
We're almost at the point where conservatives have to go to Russia, or Africa or the Middle East to find kindred spirits on this issue. And that has to be embarrassing.

"Products of conception" *IS* the medically used and correct term, not strictly because its a euphemism for "mangled fetal parts" (which, of course, it partly is), but also because the term includes NON-fetal parts, like umbilical cord, placenta, and others.
The term POC also includes things like NATURALLY aborted (ie miscarried) fetuses, plus a variety of other nightmarish things best left for description in the pages of human pathology textbooks.
"POC" is just a much broader term with a specific (and legitimate) medical meaning than "fetus" or "baby". If you want to refer to fetal parts, the correct medical descriptor for that is (shockingly) "fetal parts".
Also, "baby" isn't really a medical term. If the "baby" was just conceived, its an "embryo". If its older and in utero, its a "fetus", and if its just been born its a "neonate" (ie "newborn").
None of these terms really alter the fundamentals of the abortion debate, but they do have specific medical meanings that are useful in clinical medical settings, and I don't think there is anything wrong with using them correctly.

Something doesn't have to be mechanically removed from a uterus to be a POC.
EG, spontaneous abortions that pass naturally are POCs. Tubal ectopic pregnancies aren't present in the uterus at all, and they're clearly POCs.
Lastly, in my opinion, decidualized endometrium most certainly is NOT a POC. It contains no paternal DNA, and can be seen in settings other than pregnancy. Most of the time pathologists get away with that error, but it can come back to bite you in the butt pretty badly (eg in the above-mentioned example of a tubal ectopic pregnancy).

Not hard: Partial hydatidiform mole, complete hydatidiform mole, blighted ovum.
All three of these entities are legitimately "POC", though none of them represent any part of anything that anyone would recognize as a "human child" (or baby, fetus, etc).
Again, the term "POC" isn't a euphemism; it has a specific clinical meaning, that's useful mostly to pathologists and OB-Gyn doctors. Trying to use the term outside of that context isn't really going to help anyone.
