Iran "Deal" Includes Secret Side Agreements as to How Obama Will Treat Important Iranian Nuke Facilities... and When I Say Secret, I Mean It's Not Released to Congress, and Not Even Released to Other Negotiating Partners

Just a secret side-deal between an America-hating ideologically-bent fascist, and the Iranian president.

Isn't that just swell.

We heard about this some time ago, when Obama's spinners claimed that just because some things would be kept secret from everybody but the Mullahs, didn't mean they were actually secret.

Meanwhile:

Ayatollah Khamenei told supporters on Saturday that U.S. policies in the region were "180 degrees" opposed to Iran's, at a speech in a Tehran mosque punctuated by chants of "Death to America" and "Death to Israel".

"Even after this deal our policy towards the arrogant U.S. will not change," Khamenei said.

Via Hot Air.

The Administration was recently spinning that they were not counting on any change of behavior on Iran's part due to this deal. That's a complete lie. These diplomatic easy lays were convinced Iran would be our Bestest Frwiends Ever, if we just gave them their nukes.

Because they hinted that, or claimed that, at the negotiating table.

Well, now they've got their nukes and they don't have to lie anymore so guess what, assholes?

You were played. You let them f*** you up the a**** and you didn't even get a Sorry I Broke Your Assh***, Asshole condolences card.

If you're pushing your unsolicited opinions on strangers, and have to resort to the tools of coercion to make yourself heard: Guess what, Idiot? -Ace-

140 Since there is no actual plus side to this, probably the most Iran can come up with Right Now, is fissionable nukes. Something on the order of Hiroshima. Still not good if you're at ground zero. And they may be able to make them small enough to put on an ICBM.
It takes a whole different expertise to build a fusion nuke when you start getting up into the megaton range. But it may only take them 10 to 15 years to figure it out. The information is probably readily available.
That said, with the information already available on the interwebz, I could build a fission device. Getting the necessary materials is somewhat more problematic.

Why is it everyone thinks poor white people, especially southerners, are one baseball cap away from incest, but never says that about other groups? But no, its only white people "I bet that Palin-voting hick is sexin' up his daughter right now in the trailer!" (showers of laughter and clapping).

No, they didn't.

A lot of people here keep referencing Bubba Clinton's agreement with North Korea when talking about this deal. There is a lot in common. Including the fact that Clinton never submitted that deal as a treaty.

It was an agreed upon arrangement sanctioned by the UN SC just like this one. This was always the plan and Obama was never shy about talking about it. That's why both Republicans and Democrats in the Senate tried to do something to force some sort of Congressional review.

And despite the fact that he is a scumbag that is why Menendez has been under investigation from the DOJ ever since he sponsored the bill.

Republicans in Congress have been ineffectual fucks for the most part but this deal is all on Obama.

245 I did a little post on nazis not being right wing a while back.

Its kind of complicated. The Nazis tried to come up with a 3rd way, borrowing ideas from right and left, and trying to combine them with the latest cutting edge scientific thought (hence; eugenics). Until around 1938, academics around the world thought they were wonderful and terribly advanced; progressive, even.

For example, their economic system was pretty much cronyism and socialism. You could own your own company, but the state dictated how you ran it and what you could produce. The more powerful and richer you were, the more influence you had over policy and could help write laws.

But they were big on national identity, patriotism, and the military - typically right-leaning principles. They weren't religious, but venerated the old legends and myths of their distant past as part of their cultural identity.

As soon as the Nazis took over, they ended unemployment by simply giving everyone make work and government jobs. They provided free child care and encouraged women to join the work force. They gave clothes and food to the poorest, for "free" and ended the street violence of fighting between government troops and hard left communists (and themselves). They shut down religious education and required all kids go to state schools.

But they also taught that leftist thought had corrupted art and music, and culture. They pushed for a purer cultural identity without the decadence of the past. In that sense they were more like some right-leaning groups socially.

It was a mix, really. But mostly leftist, particularly in economics.

Freeman Dyson, who really should know better than to do so, has publicly talked about ways to run a covert nuclear warhead testing program.

What was the line of exasperated dialogue from the original _Hunt For Red October_ novel back in the day?

"Geniuses! They live in their own screwy little worlds."

Something like that.

The problem with people as smart as Freeman Dyson is that they assume there are lots of people in the world who are just as smart as they are, if not more so. So there are no issues with speculating about physical problems and their solutions, because those problems would have been thought through by others already. Bzzzzt! Wrong.

I disagree completely with your assessment.

It does not matter what the administration wants to call any particular deal with a foreign country or what a previous congress or agreement was.

Congress can assert that any such deal/agreement/arrangement is a treaty and it will treat it as such, congress is under no obligation to approve or abide by it and is certainly under no obligation to fund it.

The GOP inverted the treaty clause and pre-approved this unholy deal.

276 >>Congress could have held something hostage and openly told everybody what they were doing and why.

Told who? It's been fucking obvious all along to anyone paying attention.

The whole point of this was to collapse the international, emphasis on international, sanctions on Iran and start up the bidness.

Germany has historically been one of Iran's biggest trading partners. France has been known to do a deal or two with Islamic nuts, see the Iraq nuke plants that Israel blew up.

Who are the other members of the P5 +1? Oh yea, Russia who has been helping Iran all along sanctions be damned and China that has been rapidly filling our void in the middle east and Africa in search of oil.

Oh and the UK who doesn't seem to care about shit anymore.

Not a one of these countries gives a wet fart what the US Senate says about international sanctions. They are already on their way to Tehran to get some of that sweet Death to America money. And I defy you to tell me which of these countries gives a shit about Israel.

Republicans in Congress suck for the most part but this has little to do with them. It doesn't matter what the Senate does if every other country gives up the sanctions and that was the game all along.

And FDR's New Deal was an American variant. See Garet Garrett's "The Revolution Was" and his discussion of the "revolution within the form". Basically, the New Deal didn't explicitly overturn the American system of government--it didn't claim to be against the Constitution. It still relied on the traditional trappings of American government and rhetoric about freedom and liberty, even as it erected a monolithic centralized structure.

Yeah, but surprisingly the Russians actually mobilized faster than expected. The way to think about it is as a slow motion nuclear exchange. Once one side started to mobilize, no one else could afford to wait for fear of being caught off-guard. The bad thing about WWI was that the major belligerents were all about equal in military terms with an edge to the Germans. Although that edge was offset by numbers. Equal opponents usually mean long, ugly fights.

WWII was an "economic benefit" because the people rationed basic goods for years for the war effort, and soldiers were getting paid for years while overseas, then they came back to the US as the only major industrial power that still had factories that weren't bombed out, took that pent up demand and in some cases saved up money and kickstarted a world wide economy.

The only reason that worked was because the majority of the worlds industrial base was reduced to rubble while ours was unscathed.

Oh, and Bretton Woods.

Never forget Bretton Woods. Our deal with the devil.

Right. And frankly, their racial stuff was pretty half-assed and self serving. It was based on the pseudo science of Eugenics (the global warming of the day, if you will) with a lot of fudging of historical "blood lines" to allow the Germans think of themselves as some kind of 'pure master race' which, frankly, is silly.

Just a way to divide certain people and unite others -- what all governments do, especially when they want more power.

Of course it is. Crazy Cowboy Bush held this international sanction agreement together. Say what you will but he keep Russia and China in check for the most part. But Obama has been signaling he was going to favor Iran since before he was elected.

Do you remember him saying in 2008 he would speak to Iran with no preconditions? That even freaked out Hillary! but he did it. Remember him taking a pass on the Green Revolution and even the far left was wondering what the fuck he was doing? We wouldn't you take Obama at his word and his actions?

Take a good look at what China and Russia have been doing since Obama got in office. Russia is moving with impunity into Ukraine and beyond. China is taking control of the South China Sea. These are not little things and they did not happen by accident. Obama let these things happen.

And the EU is desperate and dying and looking for any new revenue anywhere. And they have never been shy with doing deals with Jew hating tyrants in the Middle East.

We have been talking here since before Obama's first term about his support for radical Islam and the fact that he surrounded himself with pro-Iran assholes like Jarrett, where did you think this was headed?

370 Nazis are right-wing. Where their economics land on the spectrum doesn't particularly matter because the core of their ideology isn't about that, it's about racial supremacy.

Actually their ideas stemmed from basic eugenics and evolutionary theory (so did their cultural theories but that's another topic). They believed that mankind was evolving still. They believed that more evolved man was superior and would lead to a better future. They thought less evolved man led to disease, poverty, war, and all the other evils of the past.

So the obvious thing to do is to encourage more of the more evolved people and discourage the less evolved. How do you decide which is which? Well they came up with a series of ridiculous theories and tests, mostly ensured to determine Germans were more evolved and people they historically didn't care for or understand were less evolved.

Nothing about that is right wing. Or left wing. Its just stupid pseudo science.

Posted by: JP at July 21, 2015 09:50 PM (Pa4eZ)

The term "fascism" has been cheapened over the years by leftists who use it as an epithet against anyone who disagrees with them. Nixon was a fascist, Reagan was a fascist, Bush was a fascist, ad nauseam.

Fascism is an economic system, invented by Mussolini, who was a socialist scholar. He tried to blend the strongest features of socialism and capitalism into a new system. Hitler was influenced by his ideas; hell, intellectuals in various countries were as well. Throughout the 1920s and 30s, first the Soviet Union, then Italy, then Germany were seen as harbingers of a new age by various people, and they all influenced Roosevelt's New Deal to varying degrees. Centralized state control of the economy was regarded as more efficient and scientific.

Fascism does not necessarily mean armbands, jackboots, and gas chambers. Mussolini didn't have any great animosity towards Jews. It's primarily an economic system which harnesses large corporations in service to the State, and is hostile to independent small businesses. I would say that fascism is probably the dominant economic system in the world today, including in China, where the People's Liberation Army actually owns businesses. Practically nobody outside of a college campus is a doctrinaire Marxist anymore.

It is not at all inaccurate to call Obama a fascist.

Excellent, excellent.

Russian industry was uprooted and moved east of the Urals as the war progressed. But, it was overwhelmingly military production. Even after the war ended their production was largely military as that was what it was planned for and central planners didn't want to upset the producing apple cart.

The seen and unseen. I think you need a refresher on what the broken windows theory says and why it's obviously true.

Yeah they looted the crap out of Germany, who has looted the crap out of Europe. That's how Germany was able to keep going; by basically enslaving huge numbers of people and stealing their assets. And the Soviets stole all of the stored goods they could get their hands on.

This was one part of the otherwise great film Monuments Men that enraged me. I'm sure George Clooney insisted on it.

The team is talking about needing to beat the Soviets to the treasures so they can be recovered, and Clooney's character basically defends them looting everything because the Soviets were hurt so bad in the war.

Yeah, that entitles them to other peoples' art and gold, because they fought a tough battle. Got it. All those families should never get back what belongs to them because poor Soviets fought. He probably thought Stalin distributed it evenly among all his people. Jackass.

The russians had a pretty massive production output. Their industrial capacity during WW2 can't be ignored. They pumped out a lot of stuff. Some good shit too, amongst the dubious junk. It can be deceptive when assessing their production, as it had to feed fronts on a huge scale, so they were often strapped to meet demand. Same with the Germans. The russian base wasn't sophisticated, but it was huge and prolific. The main difference was the USSR was heavily slanted to "Da, is good" tractor style production and weren't geared toward the consumer boom of the postwar years. They weren't inclined to embrace it anyway, which didn't help. Decadent luxury goods and all that.

431 US Steel, Bethlehem Steel and the other big steel companies did well in the 1950's and early '60's.

JFK was all about price controls on steel, and fought with them because they were making "too much money" and high priced steel was holding back economic growth (like with auto companies).

Government regulation (which could be called a form of socialism) combined with ridiculously generous union contracts / pensions (which really killed the steel industry in the 1980's, when all those guys started to retire) changed the growth curve of steel in the 1960's. Plus, cheaper steel from Japan (which was pretty good quality then).
Then in the 1970's, the government tried to kill the auto makers with more regulation (plus those Japanese imports were a rollin' in).

and US Steel? Again, I'm not sure what you're getting at. yes, they had some good years while their international competitors were rebuilding. Then they rebuilt. And IIRC, cheap Japanese steel (spoiler alert: they rebuilt their factories and infrastructure) was the straw that broke that bloated camels back.

The US still has a formidable steel industry. Part of the industry's downfall in the early 80's was both recessionary legacy costs and EPA regulatory squeeze. Steel did not modernize for years and when they had to, it was ugly. But modern mills and those that were able to get enough capital to modernize survived.

Currently the US ranks 4th in world production, with China producing 10 times what the US produces.

446 You absolutely don't need to explain Bastiat to me. Bastiat's theory is only a fallacy in the long term and if a strong economy is the goal. There are many forces in play today that are instead pushing to destroy the national economy to bring about their globalist paradise.
Hence moving 1/3 of Mexico's population into our home, for instance.
So among all the explanations here about the decline of U.S.Steel and the ascendancy of japanese steel none include an appreciation of the fact that as Japan's foundries had to be built from the rubble after the war they were built around more modern processes that made better quality steel and made it cheaper than the old undestroyed U.S. foundries.
Which means either you don't know whatwe're talking about or you're just going out of your way to be argumentative and obtuse.

490 The problem with arguing economic theory is that economics in any larger setting than like 5 people becomes so complicated and confusing anything can happen and none of it ends up making sense. So everything seems to make sense. That's why you can get two economists pointing to exactly the same time period in history and proving exactly the opposite conclusions.

Take where we are right now. There's no economic theory in the world - even keynesian - that teaches you can simply print a trillion dollars out of nowhere and not destroy your whole system. It just cannot work.

But look around you, we aren't rolling a wheelbarrow full of dollars to buy a loaf of bread when by all rights we should. Its too complicated to make sense out of. Plus the Obama administration figured out a way to sock it all away into a gigantic slush fund (the FDIC reserve)

I'm saying that Obama never had any intention of going to Congress with this. His intention all along was to get the P5 +1 partners to agree to walk away from the sanctions agreement and they did. And when they did, game over.

Did you not see that both Germany and France have already announced that they are going to Iran to seek trade deals? For all practical purposes it does not matter what the US Senate does now, Iran is going to get the bomb with or without our help.

I've actually been to a very large Chinese steel mill, and been in the heart of Chinese coal country (Datong), and it looks like America from the 1920's 0r 30's.
The Chinese have some modern ideas and are modernizing all the time, but they are still kind of backward.
Modern US steel mills actually have very few people in them, because so much of the operation is so heavily mechanized and controlled by a handful of operators. It is extremely efficient these days, since they mostly went through bankruptcies in the 1990's etc, to shed their old pension obligations (which are now being paid by you and me, by the US Pension Guaranty Corporation, subsidized by the US Gov.).

504 Is putting leagues of citizens of another country on the welfare roles sutainable in the long term? Of course not. But you need to analyze it for its SHORT-TERM efficacies and you'll understand better why so many parties are so eager to see it done.

If you've ever lived in the same neighborhood, or known welfare people, you know exactly what is wrong with the entire concept of it. It destroys people's attitudes. It trains people to believe that they have a God given right to a free ride. It teaches people that they shouldn't have to accept the consequences of their own bad behavior and stupid decisions. Your average white liberal wouldn't get caught dead living in the same neighborhood with welfare people or sending their kids to the same schools with welfare kids. By encouraging Hispanics to sign up for welfare, we're ruining them.

Posted by: MAx at July 21, 2015 10:39 PM (YJeFl)

Bastiat's observation (not a theory) is that you can only discuss the benefits of broken windows if you ignore the costs. The reason this comes up in discussion is that the window is something you can see and touch, while the costs have been relegated to might-have-beens and if-only's by the fierce demand of fixing the window. That is why the title is "That Which is Seen, and That Which is Not Seen."

Since he pointed it out in 1850, it has been repeatedly challenged on a variety of fronts....but the essay has stood up very well to those challenges. Nobody wants to have an ad-hoc discussion because Bastiat expressed it so well.

Let's not argue about this too much, but a treaty requires 2/3 of the Senates consent, as per the Constitution.

The Corker Bill was the R's slimeball way out of having a face down with Obama over the Iran deal.

It was kabuki, failure theater, whatever you want to call it.

They should have dared him to pass a treaty without the Senate, then refused to acknowledge it and follow up on some campaign promises to start defunding departments if he tried to implement the treaty.

If they're not willing to do anything, why did we elect them?

Let Reid be in charge. He at least had funny exercise stories.

Yes, that is true and also add in that the local gov. in China are who own the individual steel mills and have no incentive to reduce capacity or output and lose that cash.
China has far too much capacity and as the Central Gov. keeps having to subsidize the industry, they are sparking tariffs and trade wars with other individual countries, including the USA who demand protection from China essentially dumping steel.

It will come home to roost eventually for them, as math is not truly able to be defied for long.

581 #542: That sort of goes hand-in-hand with lefties not believing in American exceptionalism, and yet, if you point out that communism has never worked anytime, anywhere it's been tried, they'll tell you, "Well, yeah, but it's just that nobody's done it right yet. When it comes here, we'll totally get it right, maaann!" Oh, because of that American exceptionalism that you're always poo-pooing? Yeah.

582 I have heard stories of an advanced civilization that existed in the past. Apparently, this civilization had a means of dealing with this type of perfidy. They developed extremely complex tools of public torture known as "tar" and "feathers" which were used to inflict damning public shame upon those who dared betray the public trust. In extreme cases, they even subjected those who had committed unforgivable acts of treason to summary execution by firing squad.

But these are just stories... all but lost to history.

I bailed out before I got that far. Wishcasting, by a leftard.

585 #583: I also use Pale Moon. Most Firefox addons, including NoScript, also work with Pale Moon.

587 Ordinarily I would say this deal would be killed as soon as Obama is out of the WH. However Scankles will not kill it and I am beginning to doubt any Republican would either. At least not any who are on the national stage.

588 This:

"Iran "Deal" Includes Secret Side Agreements as to How Obama Will Treat Important Iranian Nuke Facilities.."
So, Obama is the forever president? Will the next president get let in on the secret side arrangements? This appears to be, errr, obama exclusive.

How to stop the Iran-nuke deal - No one has yet articulated this key-approach [although Caroline Glick and Andrew McCarthy have approached it, also, as a treaty].
