I don't think Trump, who didn't serve, should criticize McCain's service. McCain was tortured and permanently injured.
That said, what happened to McCain was 40 years ago. Over the past 20+ years, McCain has had a lot of bad votes in the Senate. Plus, he lost to the Shia Muslim Traitor who has usurped the presidency.

Incidentally it's the same reason why Bernie Sanders is gaining traction among Dems. He wants a permanent class revolution. He actually said that. He's not even attempting to hide his socialism.

I'm thinking he was banking on the media throwing a rod over his comments but that most folks don't like McCain and don't much care for his attitude. The POW part is confusing. I don't think he meant to say what he said the way he said it. That's what happens when you don't memorize a speech but speak extemporaneously with only a mental outline as a guide.
I think most folks got it though. He was saying that McCain didn't DO anything to become a hero. He DID endure which did make him a hero but he didn't actively do something.
That's what I took away from it.
And he definitely hit the spot with his dig at how ineffective and wrong McCain's been on legislation.
Once again McCain's been asking for this for years and we'll disregard the inept talk about pow's just to hear someone slap McCain around a bit.

Free trade is generally beneficial -- especially if you're the exporting nation.
NAFTA CAFTA etc are not "free trade" agreements, insomuch as they're "preferred nations" agreements. So in other words, they make special deals with say, Canada and Mexico, that make other countries at a disadvantage if they want to enter US markets.
But that's what we're talking about -- other countries getting special deals to export to us with lower tariffs and under more "favored" circumstances (for example, customs).
So yes, cheap Chinese products (arguably) leave more spending money in our pockets at the end of the day. So there is that benefit.
Plus, you know, the obvious disadvantages.

They don't... thus we export wealth instead of paying a little more and keeping that wealth here, being spent by Americans.
and thus we have destroyed our industrial base... and exported millions of jobs... because our OWN rules (EPA, OSHA and such) make us less competitive (not to mention business taxes)...
Cheap prices for overseas goods is turning out to be a short term gain.... long term loss... IMO.

Because if this isn't your choice, I would advise you to suddenly need to take care of one of your relatives, take the kids, and leave hubby to deal with her. For what its worth, my husband has a whack job sister. She decided to visit a few days after he returned from the Bosnian war, and announced to my two and four year old children that he was her brother before he was their father and my husband, and she needed time alone with him more than he needed to see us. Basically, I told hubby that he could choose to continue to spend time with this whack job, or he could stay married to me. He chose wisely. She's not been to the house since. And frankly, it's been much better on our marriage.

Strikes me that what we're seeing is a tacit statement from the GOPe that they believe a conservative candidate cannot win the presidency in the present climate.
On the other hand, if the conservative base stays home, the GOP will also lose in 2016.
I so hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I suspect we don't need to bother with the formalities of an election in November 2016. Either the conservative base will stay home, or the GOPe/comfort class/let's get along crowd will stay home or vote for the Dem. Either way, barring some major change by then, the GOP candidate is going to lose in November 2016.

He's a bit squishier than I'd like to see but that may be his advisers fault.

There are important "tactical" issues to run on, and important strategic issues to run on.
Illegal immigration straddles both the tactical and strategic, because at its root, it is an important constitutional issue that has been kicked down the road by the opportunists that want to capitalize on it, either by getting cheap labor or recruiting Mexicans to vote.
It strikes directly at the nerve of many Americans, because it calls into question their value and identity as citizens.
It is self-evident that the self -serving and cynical opportunists don't give a whit about what ~70% of Americans (Democrats and Republicans and Independents) think about this. They have decided to ram it down our throats and tell us how good it is for us, while laughing at us at the same time.

chemjeff, I always (reasonably) assume Trump will not be the nominee, nor the president, so I don't know or care about his "positions" - just glad to see the most important issue finally forced (probably temporarily) onto the stage.
Oh, and Trump was using the *first* "uninsured" number, the same one the idiot in the WH was using during his pathetic and unsuccessful sales tour for O-care. Recall those numbers kept coming down as people challenged them. The only relevant category - involuntarily, financially uninsured - is a small fraction of 42 million. Probably between 6 and 11 million, much more likely to the low side.
But hey, what are actual facts when dim teenagers are playing god-king with what was once the greatest country in earth's history?

And I've heard Trump sing all sorts of praises about what a great Senator Hillary was when he was on Hannity years ago, and he even had her at his wedding!

I'm not voting for Trump. I am enjoying the chaos he is causing. But, his statement when he made the infamous Mexican remark was build the wall, deport the felons, and talk about the rest after that. Simple and understandable messaging. We aren't doing the first two right now. Just give me those two and the third step becomes a lot less contentious.

I disagree on Trump's intent, but agree helping elect Hillary is surely the ultimate effect.
Trump is only in this for himself. Trump doesn't care if his antics help elect Hillary, as long as it gets him more of the attention every narcissist craves.
After Hillary is elected, Trump would continue doing what he's always done since he inherited his Daddy's fortune, paying off politicians (including Hillary) to ripoff taxpayer money to subsidize his ventures, that would fail in a capitalistic free market.
Meanwhile, all the emotional release cravers feeling "I'm mad as hell and not going to take it any more" couldn't care less that Trump is Hillary's best political ally (not even counting the money Trump contributed to Hillary's campaign). As long as Trump sounds as mad as the emotional-release voters feel, they'll vote for Trump to elect Hillary.
