Viacom Removes "The Dukes of Hazzard" Reruns from TVLand Schedule, Because Urge to Purge

Obviously.

Some time ago, Bill Quick attacked me, claiming, wrongly, that I was inconsistent to support a baker's right to not make a gay wedding cake when of course I would be fighting, racistly angry about a Muslim who insisted on Islamic dress codes in his own store.

I am republishing this essay because it's directly on-point.

America is in a dark chapter of its existence -- we have faced worse external threats, but not worse internal threats.

The threat now comes from within.

There are those who are insistent that we shall all have the same bland gray vanilla corporate non-culture culture, and that we shall all bow to the strange gods of the left.

As Andrew Breitbart once said:

Fuck you. War.

Below, my essay on what America is, and what is not, and how cowards, idiots, weaklings, and cuckolds want to turn America into a dark perversion of itself.

Bill Quick is fightin' angry about thoughts that I don't have.

He quotes me:

The New Intolerance: We Are Now Required To Embrace Just About Everything, Except the Gutter Religion Christianity

Incidentally– Are there any beliefs on the left which have not been sacralized?

That is, do they have any beliefs which are open to question without inviting their typical full-spectrum punishment regime, from group coordinated stigmatization to pursuit in the courts?

Then he asks, rhetorically, because people with few answers like to believe they know all the answers:

So, Ace: You okay with Muslim owned businesses refusing to serve women not “properly” covered -- ie., bagged in a burkha, because Religious Liberty?

Yes.

By the way, I could end the post here, because he will now yammer on for a few hundred words assuming that my answer must be "no," and why that's terrible.

But the answer is "Yes."

This is an easy one. What the fuck do I care? A shop owner has the right to set a dress code. Especially if this were a store geared towards Islamic identity -- an Islamic bookstore, say, or a restaurant -- this one isn't even a question.

But even absent that-- what should I care what the dress code is here, or whom he wants his clientele to be? He doesn't want to serve me, and get this -- I don't wish to be served by him.

How about the Muslim cab driver refusing to transport passenger with dogs or alcohol, because Religious Liberty?

This is trickier because in the case of the store, I have to seek that out. I have to go to the nuisance, as it were. In the case of a cab, I could call for a cab, wait 25 minutes for it, and then, only upon his arrival, be told "Well I'm not going to take you because of these crazy restrictions I never warned you about when you hailed me."

In other words: In the case of the cab, the nuisance comes to me, and that's more of a problem.

But if that one kink could be worked out -- that I could use a cellphone app to summon only cabs that would take me, and would not be punished with discovering, in the rain, that a Muslim cabdriver was refusing to take my fare after waiting 25 minutes -- yes, again, what do I care?

If I hail him, and he does not inform me of his list of silly objections, then yes, in that case, he is bound to take me, because he did not give me his objections before the contract for service was entered into.

But as long as he tells me his objections before that -- Why would I care?

Honestly I'd prefer knowing my driver was a hardcore adherent of a religion which often encourages its faithful to crash vehicles into buildings Because God Hates Vehicular Safety.

Unlike some other Dummies, I'm not really of a mind that we must all Follow the Same Rules and all Subscribe to the Same Bland, Grey, Dead Corporate-Friendly Culture in which no one is really religious or different or odd at all Because That's Bad For Corporate Business.

I think people should have -- and by God, do have -- the right to be fairly different from one another.

That's fucking America.

Did you not know that? That that's what America is?

That America is the right to be different from other people?

I don't see why a store run by a pious conservative Muslim can't demand that women be covered, if that's his bag, nor why a store run by a pious conservative Catholic can't also insist that women cover their shoulders, if that's his sense of what his business should be, of what should happen on property he owns.

Will there be hurt feelings when some are turned away?

Sure.

And who cares?

What the fuck are we, babies? Is this kindergarten, where everyone must be made to feel welcome, always?

Why the fuck would you think I would even care about this shit? Is it because you care about it so much, that you are so concerned about maintaining a Standard Generic Vanilla Corporate-Friendly Non-Culture Culture everywhere, that the idea of a Muslim religious bookstore which insists on a strict dress code for women is mentally deranging?

To be honest with you, I already assume there already are Islamic bookstops which will demand that women leave unless properly veiled.

And yet I'm not pissing myself about this.

Why would I want to go to that shop in the first place?

A culture without any rough parts, without any Proud Nails that won't be pounded down, without any Strangeness that people just insist upon because it's Their Culture, That's Why, is not a culture at all.

It's a fucking shopping mall. It's a fucking Airport Neutral Palate Color Scheme. It's the gray paste they feed to people in comas.

It's nothing. Nothing.

A lot of people seem to dream of America as a great bland nothing.

And they're winning, too.

There is a strand of thought that is often found among conservatives, which is itself actually not conservative. And that is the tendency towards a fairly pronounced Corporatism.

Let me explain what I mean by that. When you are at work, you are under a series of rules and codes designed to reduce your individuality. Businesses -- Corporations -- do not want the full flower of your individual expression. They don't want you dressing flamboyantly, they don't want you talking about deviant sex or, actually, non-deviant sex either, they don't want you proselytizing, they don't want you arguing about politics, they don't want you offering your views on the relative accomplishments of the various Races of Man.

Let me say: I have no problem with this. This makes perfect sense. When you are in a working environment, you're not there to let your freak flag fly. The business does not want to know you as a Special Snowflake in all your oddball glory.

Someone who insists on festooning themselves with all their cultural/sexual/religious/political signage at work gravely mistakes how interested anyone at work is in learning about them as a person. People at work do not, by and large, want to know you as a person. Some might; most don't.

People at work want to keep this impersonal and polite but not familiar, because impersonal and polite but not familiar is the general code of conduct for not angering strangers one is forced, by circumstances, to be within close proximity to.

Manners, in all their artificiality, do not exist to navigate relations with your close relations. Manners are an artificial code of conduct designed to reduce frictions and any chance of showing disrespect or causing offense among strangers and semi-strangers.

I have no problem with the Corporate Code of Conduct at the corporation itself. When I'm forced to be at work, yes, of course I will abide by the "no hot political talk" and the "no sex talk" and "no cursing" and "no ethnic slurs" rules. Partly because I was raised that way, but also partly because I wish the benefit of the bargain-- I myself would like to be free of other people's Freak Flags. I don't want them gratuitously offending me, or assuming an over-familiar posture with me, so I will, to modify my own behavior and dress so that it is corporate bland and business casual.

But while I completely understand and endorse the Business Casual system of empty, gray dullness at work, I do not and will not accept it outside of work.

It is one thing to demand that I comport myself as if I am walking on eggshells for 9 or ten hours a day, at work. It is another thing entirely to further insist that when I get Home, and rest at my metaphoric Castle, that I must continue to follow the Corporate Rules of Conduct.

Here's my answer to that: Go fuck yourself. You cannot pursue me from work to home and hound me with your constant need for Conformity in all things.

Bill Quick is essentially making the case for Conformity in all things, in all spheres. He sees people making their Silly Religious Objections as possibly Offensive to some people, and causing some Friction, and certainly Bad For Business.

Well so fucking what, Bill Quick? The Corporate Handbook of Proper Employee Conduct may apply when I am working in an office with 100 strangers, but it does not apply when I own my own fucking business and my own fucking property.

On that ground, I can design any rules I wish. And if this makes your gray, corporate brain go all a-flutter at the potential disorderliness!!!, well, go fuck yourself, buddy. I do not exist to appease your OCD need for Hierarchy, Structure, Order, Regularity, and Standard Procedures in all facets of life.

Some people continue to be wigged out at the idea that I can buy alcohol in one county but the next county over -- get this! -- it's illegal to sell booze.

They just seem to have this baseline devotion to the ideal that we should all be the same. That each county should follow the same rules. That a traveler, moving from one county to the next, should not be surprised or bothered to discover there are Different Rules in effect, or a Different Culture.

That we should, in short, all have the Same Rules, and the Same Culture, with all Proud Nails pounded flat to the wood, so that there is no danger of snagging anyone's clothing or giving anyone a cut.

Some find that comforting.

I find it creepy. I also find it be the height of Entitlement: In what fucking spasm of ego did you conceive that other people exist to protect your mental Safe Place from any discombobulation and discomfort?

It bothers Bill Quick that one bakery could have one set of policies, and yet a bakery down the street could, get this, have an entirely different set of policies.

That's just wrong, he apparently thinks. We all need to be on the same page as far as Bakery Policies, or else -- else -- else...! Well, That Way Madness Lies, surely.

The idea that I must never be exposed to any thoughts I find weird -- like a Muslim demanding that women be veiled -- like a Catholic church demanding that women cover their shoulders -- is simultaneously infantile, weak, and entitled.

I guess this is the difference between Bill Quick and I: Bill Quick seems to pine for an orderly world in which a controlling hierarchy pursues us in our every waking hour to impose the Corporate Rulebook on us, even when we're not at the Corporate Headquarters, even when we own our own business which is not governed by any Corporate Rulebook but our own.

He finds that comforting.

I find it terrifying.

I think conservatives have long been overly trusting of corporate and social power, usually assuming we'd be in control of it, so that we would be protected from any misuse thereof.

I think we are now suddenly discovering that was a terrible assumption to make, and that we should have been asking ourselves, all along: What if this power to gin up the forces of social conformity and legal bullying were not in our hands, but in fact used against us?

Well, if any conservatives were previously unaware of the danger of empowering scolds, busybodies, bureaucrats, and police to Make You Behave As The Group Thinks Is Proper, surely none can still be ignorant.

If you're still fighting for Statism and Conformity and Group Decisionmaking, you are an enemy of liberty and an enemy of conservatism.

I think you get the point.

But do you get the point, Dummy? You seem to think I care about these things, because, Of course I must.

After all, I'm to be playing a Strawman Role you've assigned to me in your fat-clotted head.

But in fact I don't. I don't give a shit. I don't give a shit about being denied service at a Muslim Halal Shop, and, as long as we work out a system which avoids me waiting in the rain for a cab which later rejects me, I don't care about Muslim cab drivers refusing to ferry alcohol or dogs around, either.

You cannot be logically consistent on this issue unless you drop the bullshit about Christians being singled out -- (Muslims famously murder gays), and accept that if religious liberty permits Christians and Christian businesses to discriminate against gays, then you have to also permit Muslims and their businesses to discriminate against gays -- and women, and dogs, and drinkers, and kaffirs, and the whole host of religious proscriptions that religion subscribes to.

I have no idea what you're rambling on about, but it is much easier to be logically consistent on this issue than you seem to imagine, Dummy.

And if you say, "pshaw, I’m just talking about Christians here. We can’t let the Muslims run wild, that would be crazy."

Another thing Dumb People like to do is put Dumb Objections in your mouth -- Dumb Objections they can then easily, and dumbly, swat aside.

Well, at that point you’re demanding the state to establish a religion -- and that, dear friends, is really unconstitutional -- re-read that First Amendment you’re shrieking at the top of your lungs about.

You're blathering on quite a bit assuming that I'd object to either of these hypotheticals. Which I don't.

Also, yes, this is terribly, terribly important -- to the dozen or so gay couples who will request wedding cakes from the dozen or so bakers (some of whom may well be Muslim) who will refuse them.

Mm-hm. There sure aren't many gay bakers.

And even fewer gay florists.

And gay photographers? Why, nearly none of those.

In the meantime, Obama is giving Iran nuclear weapons, but Jebus --we have much more important things to screech about.

Gee I notice you screeched about it-- just on the other side. So I guess it is worth talking about-- so long as you support the leftwing position on it.

Leftwingers do this all the time -- they employ the rhetorical gambit, "How silly it is for you to ever care about this trivium!"

So you say: Well, Old Man, if it's trivial, surely you wouldn't mind conceding the trivial point to me, eh?

At which point they say: "Are you mad? This is an important matter of principle!!!"

Just like this dummy did right here. Right after he chided me about this not being so important, he informed me that it was terribly important to about a dozen gay couples.

Well, it's probably also important to a dozen Christians in the baking business.

Either way, your childish "This is too small an issue for you to argue about!!!" gambit fails.

By the way, I've been covering Iran a lot.

When I say Americans are stupid, this is the sort of thing I’m talking about.

Me too. I completely agree with you that most Americans are stupid. In fact, many people who spit up their every pique and half-baked Blog-Slam!!! are among the stupidest of all.

Food for thought: This country is increasingly paranoid about people who don't bow to the accepted Order of Things.

The country plainly does not like Small Independent Business owners, because without a larger Corporation overseeing their decisions, How do we know they'll make the right decisions? How do we force them to make the right decisions?

Corporations are cowardly and leftwing and the height of conformism.

But what about these damned Independents-- these Wildcatters with their own businesses, their own leases, and no Board of Directors or Shareholders to answer to?

How can we endure knowing that some people are out there Making Up Their Own Rules???!!!!

When Christians and their fellow-traveling conservatives (like me) were in more of a dominant social position, we didn't have to think much about the dilemma of whether we would like a system by which we get to impose our Rules and Values on Others, or whether we would like to be free from other people imposing their Rules and Values on Us.

See, when you're in a dominant social position, you don't have to make that choice, because you get Both. You are in a strong enough position to not have to worry too much about a hostile majority pushing its Rules and Values on you. You are the Majority, or a Near Majority, at least; so you can push a regime which is more insistent on Conformity, because you are numerically strong enough to stop the worst abuses of a Conformity Regime from being inflicted on you.

But we're not in that position any longer. We can longer use our numerical might to block other people's aggressions in this sphere. We can no longer have our cake and eat it too; we must choose.

We must now begin choosing which is more important: A regime in which the Majority gets to Impose Rules on a Minority (hoping we can occasionally be the Majority and Impose some of our Rules), or a Regime in which the Majority is de-powered, so that any Minority (including, most importantly, us) is less likely to be bullied by the Majority at all.

Some people still do not get this choice they are confronted with. They continue to insist that it's still 1988 and that we can have both, that we can have a regime in which a majority bullies an unpopular minority and be free of such bullying.

Other people see a choice, but seem to think that Corporate Conformism is more important than liberty.

I choose to be self willed. Empowering myself means de-powering others.

Sorry, Bill Quick. I don't want you or any of the other rules-following, orderliness-obsessed corporatists making decisions for me.

I choose liberty, and I choose my own conscience. And choosing that means, get this, that I must also choose liberty and the right to conscience for others.

This is a time for clarity, and this is a time for choosing. This is a time to discover who it is who really supports Liberty and Freedom, and who it is who is really all about Control and Conformity.

For many years, many conservatives have really been more about the latter than the former. I have admitted, and I will continue to admit, I was among them. I have long had pronounced authoritarian and statist tendencies.

I fight against them now, like an alcoholic fights his lust for drink.

But too many conservatives continue championing Social Control and Conformity while mouthing the empty platitudes about how wonderful Freedom is.

Freedom to do exactly what is permitted on pages 36-42 of the Corporate Handbook, that is.

Anything else is A Disorder and thus Subversive.

If keeping my own freedom means, horror of horrors, also granting it to a Muslim, then I am prepared to make that deal all. day. long.

It is time to put away childish things. Either you support liberty and justice for all, or you support it for none.

Without looking into it too deeply, I'ma thinkin' this "public accommodations" thing was formulated very poorly.

Aside from an obvious, *practically* decided judgement that some private business (medical clinic, only gas station or food source in a given location, etc.) has to serve all in need, "public accommodations" should be restricted to *public* ones. Bridges. Roads. Public libraries.

The lack of humility (and sense) in defining "public accommodation" was no less than an evisceration of one of the most basic freedoms there is - one so basic it isn't even enumerated or mentioned in any of the founding documents, is it? - freedom of association.

45 I apologize because I haven't read the whole post you wrote, Ace, but I'm headed out and wanted to put in my two cents.

As I understand it, Maj Hassan's hangups when dealing with women in a professional setting were catered to. I think he was able to absent himself from certain activities and/or get special exemptions because of Women Cooties. I'm pretty sure I read that he treated women co-workers differently b/c of his Islamicism -- and iirc that did not lead to any HR reprimands (such as would happen to my husband if he did the same).

This is wrong.

You, as an American, have a right to live your life. But if part of your choice involves working in a service capacity, particularly in medicine or as a government employee or in law enforcement or in fire and rescue or whathaveyou, you must understand that dealing with the public is part of that role. If you cannot fulfill the responsibilities of your job description, the job that you voluntarily chose to pursue, pick another line of work or move to Saudi Arabia.

You can believe what you want, but if your beliefs interfere with my rights -- either to not be discriminated against in hiring or work evaluations or promotions b/c you think I have cooties (b/c I attend the wrong church or have the wrong body parts) or to not receive life-saving treatment b/c I have cooties or whatever -- then you need to pick a different line of work.

I don't know if this is a controversial or wrong position amongst conservatives. I hope it isn't, but I really can't tell where we're at these days in our Fundamental Transformation brought on by the Lightworker.

What a perfect comparison of religious weirdness.

Why, nary a day goes by that we don't read about Catholic warriors crucifying women for not obeying commands to cover their shoulders. Or at the least, stoning them for not covering their shoulders.

100 "The Dukes of Hazzard" was aired at a point in time where Southern culture was (very briefly) considered cool. Why? Because Mr. Peanut was either running or already in the WH. That's why.

I remember a gushing Time magazine cover story called "The New South" which featured two children, black and white, embracing. The story was about how racially progressive the South had become - because Time wanted Jimmah elected.

That was also the heyday of Southern rock and comic but lovable Southerners on sitcoms (that waitress named Flo who said "Kiss my grits..." the Waltons - set in a rural 1930's Virginia that was more southern than Virginia is today.)

This is all about punishing Southerners for failing to vote correctly. If they were still solid D voters, the Dems and their media allies wouldn't care if large numbers of them were tattooing the CBF on their foreheads.

125 To the people (actually in the other thread) who keeps on saying that the real test is a gay marriage performed in a mosque: I believe you are not serious, here's why

1) muslims already have an exception on obamacare for 'religious' reasons because insurance in their fanatic cult equals usury. I believe they are also allowed not to purchase insurance for home, car etc, so watch out if you are killed/maimed by a muslim driving. With this precedent do you think mosques will not be exempted?

2) to be able to perform a gay marriage in a mosque, you need 2 gay muslims or at least one of them must be muslim (normally the 'other' will be forced to convert). Regardless of the fact that you need to find those 2 gays of the muslim persuasion (if there is such a thing they will not get married in a mosque since they will be secular muslims and will use a civil location), but even if there was on earth such a 'couple' they would have to face the thread of murder by not only their immediate family but also of the rest of the community.

Who would want to risk that? It is very common that muslim fathers murder daughters because they dare to marry an infidel. Explain me how you can find 2 gay muslims willing to sue a mosque to push the conservative agenda?

If you mean that you need to find 2 'actors' (gay or not) then good luck too, since they still risk death more than the mosque or islam will risk anything

I do not understand if you are saying it seriously.

It is impossible to put into action.

127 You are NOT entitled to the labor of other's in the private sector ... no matter how damn bad you want it.

This.

You have no right to what someone else must produce or provide.

That includes a cabby (though, as Ace points out, if you're specifically calling a cab company, and *then* the guy shows up and won't take your fare, that sucks. But the answer is: "so don't do business with that cab company again," or "so advise the dispatcher that you have a dog or whatever."). That includes medical services.

I, as an employee, may have a choice to suck up the corporate policy or find new employment, but potential customers do not get to set company policy- they can choose to do business with the company or not, and the company, get this, can choose to do business with them, or not.

No fucking way.

I'm a 10th generation Yankee and it soils the memory of all those who served and died on both sides during this horrible war.

Is it because it was Republicans who brought an end to slavery that bothers these people so much? That it was the Democrats who were the founders of the KKK?

Can't have that can we?

That's not the problem with the cab as a comparison. The problem with the cab is that it is a government controlled monopoly. You could argue that state licensing is the same - and perhaps it is - but it is not to the same degree as restricting the # of cab medallions put on the street.

How do you get a ride in a town with one cab company and company policy is they won't take Christians?

I get that you-specific are gonna have some high-minded "well I'll just make my boss pay for a rental car" or something, but you-general Christian who takes a cab in every city he's sent for work because he's legally blind and that makes it difficult to get a valid license for the rental is kinda fucked.

180 Thank you for reposting this.

The destruction of the public and the private, the politicization of every single solitary thing imaginable, the conflation of self with employment, all of that is viciously destruction to humanity qua humanity.

It's reductive.

It's anti-human.

It's vile.

And it's even more so when it's "my" side that does it.

We are turning into a country where the tall poppy is cut down. That should horrify everyone.

Hell, aren't we the ones who believe that localities should be free to do as they will? So that store doesn't want to sell to me. So what. Someone else will. Oh it might inconvenience me in the very slightest. Who the hell do I think I am that my convenience is paramount over others? I am not a toddler. I am not an infant. I am not some screeching banshee who believes, honestly and truly, that only her will is what matters and only her agency and personhood are to be respected.

No. No. It's not merely corporatizing. It's an attempt to sanitize the messiness of humanity. That will fail because life is messy.

Do not mistake me. I place a high value on manners, though, to my shame, frequently I do not display the same. Life goes by more smoothly if people treat one another with simple common decency. All evidence to the contrary notwithstanding, I do attempt to display at least some modicum of tact in dealing with others, both in the real world and online. There are phrases I will not use, and confrontations I will not have, and issues that I left pass by because it is not worth the harm that will ensue to others to give me the momentary (and passing) spike of pleasure in being vicious and nasty. There is a person on the other side of that screen. An actual human being who deserves that I attempt at least to remember that said person has just as much right to be treated decently as do I.

Remembering and attempting to respect that is basic human decency. Sadly, that appears to be in short supply.

What is being demanded is not that we return to an age of better manners. What is being demanded is that we all have the same bland, boring, gray, uniform, utterly pathetic hive mind and no one steps out of line. What a waste of life. How joyless.

I was watching Auntie Mame last night and was reminded of just how much the message of that movie resonates with me. Not just life's a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death but the end of it where there is the war for Patrick's soul and Mame notes that she will not let him be turned into an Aryan from Darien but then stops and says that he's not hers either. He is his own person who must make his own way. She must set him free as well. It is just as shackling to demand that he abide by what she teaches as it is to end up in a restricted community. Both are prisons of the soul.

That mindset, that a person should be free to be who he or she is and that person must, in turn, treat decently those who are not like him or her, is under vicious attack from both the Left and the Right.

It has been ever so, of course, but I have been naive enough to presume that at least the Right will try to stand up and say, yes, that person has the right not to associate with me just as I have the right not to associate with him because freedom matters most.

I do not want to live in a world where everyone is forced to pretend that we all agree. So some people won't serve me or hire me or whatever Because Reasons. So? I am free to go out there and say hey all of you who can't go over there? Come over here and I'll be happy to take all of your money. That is the world in which I want to live. Not some bland world where no one says anything upsetting and everyone agrees and isn't everything just ever so lovely.

There's a reason that whenever you see a world like that on tv or on the screen or in a book, you know immediately that you are entering a dystopia, not a utopia.

No. No. No. A million times no.

+100. As I said, it's my hobby horse. Politically correct should be determined as locally as possible, never forgetting that Good Enough is Good Enough. If the self-governing polity is happy the way things are, and their control doesn't extend so far as to make it unavoidable, they should get their way. If you town behaves stupidly, in your opinion, then try to persuade them that they are wrong. If you can't persuade them and you can't stand it, move.

I've lost so many friends in the last 8 years, because they've become automatons regarding every single thing, public and private, and seek to force others to agree with them. I won't, I demur politely when at dinner parties (because started a huge fight at a formal dinner party is rude to the hostess), but since I don't jump up and down, clapping with wildenthusiasm and squeals at their Every PreciousMoment of Thought I've been dropped, and am happier with the fewer and far more interesting friends I'm left with. Yes, it does. And sometimes life sucks.

We live in a world where things aren't perfect. Men are not angles, nor are we governed by them.

Liberty means that, sometimes, bad things will happen to people who don't necessarily deserve them. I am not okay with limiting liberty for the majority because of a minority of people who will be inconvenienced.

Yes, that sucks. I'm sorry that sucks. If I happen to know someone who is blind and therefore needs a ride everywhere, but no one will take him because Christian (a year ago I would have said that was ludicrous), then I will gladly offer him free rides within my ability to do so.

The answer to "attending the difficulties of too much liberty" is not to reduce liberty, it is for fellow human beings to stand up and *be* fellow human beings.

Posted by: Cicero (@cicero) at July 01, 2015 03:01 PM (8ZskC)

203 Its an old story, at least from Greek times about how to control a people. A tyrant was talking to a visiting king who was asking how he kept his people in line. The tyrant responded by drawing his sword as they walked and chopping the tops off of poppies that grew taller than the rest. If you cut down the ones that excel or stand out, then everyone else will fall into place and no one will be better than the other.

CS Lewis has a variant of this in his book Screwtape Letters: the devil is teaching demons how to deal with their humans they tempt.

213 The other day my husband and I were talking and remembered Dave Mustain coming out in favor of Santorum. We wondered if he had ever said anything about gay marriage, and lo and behold he had.

He was asked if he supported gay marriage and he said "nope, I'm not gay so I'm not going to be getting gay married". They then asked if he supported legalizing it and he said "nope, I'm a Christian."

That's it. Literally. That was all he said.

Well the author of the piece went on and on about how he was "ostracizing" his fan base and blah blah blah.

Then the author quoted some random metal guy who know one cares about as a "example of someone NOT ostracizing his fan base."

Except that douche bag just listed a bunch of liberal talking points and said, at one point, that most metal fans were uneducated and poorly traveled.

He literally, explicitly insulted his own fans, but in this liberal world that was not being divisive. Divisive is saying you're a Christian.

These people are not people. They're emotions with hands.

Tall Poppy Syndrome. It's mainly a Britishism (more so Aussie and NZ) used to describe the social situation where someone who stands out from the crowd, via merit or being different, or accomplishment, is cut down by the crowd.

241 Golden Spike Park in Utah is where the two halves of the transcontinental railroad met up. The park does reenactments of that historic moment with two replica steam trains, representing the original Jupiter and 119 trains.

I've decided that removing the Confederate flag from All The Things, historic or not, is the equivalent of deciding that the Jupiter's name is racist, so the train will no longer be used in the reenactment.

Would it look silly to have only the 119 chug up to the spot where the two trains met, and have the reenacters celebrate? Incredibly silly; you are missing half of history. Same with leaving the Confederate flag out of any visuals of the Civil War. Our country is run by idiots.

249 Here's the thing about cabbies. They get paid by the mile. For them to waste 25 minutes on a call is unacceptable, that is 25 minutes they could have been fleecing someone else. So it is their own best interest notify you of the rules from the start. Probably just a short hand notification is all that is needed, "I'll pick you up in 25 minutes, FYI I am Sharia compliant."

Posted by: Ken at July 01, 2015 02:43 PM (LXJ1e)

Thing is, most places, one could not make a living as a sharia-compliant cab driver if one required that all passengers also be sharia-compliant. Anymore than an Ewok cab driver could make a living carrying only Ewoks as passengers. It's pretty much a given in the cab business, that to make a living, one has to take on all passengers other than those who seem to be truly dangerous, or so commode-hugging drunk that they are likely to puke on the upholstery.

Having said that, I would be pleased as Hell if there was a way to ensure that I wasn't about to put dollars in a muslim's pocket when I pick up the phone to call a cab.

If slavery were suddenly made legal, but only to those who voluntarily sign up for it, what percentage of the population would agree to be "slaves"?

The new slave would give up their rights to self determination and agree that all their labor is owned by their "master". The master would have to agree to feed, cloth, house, protect and otherwise maintain the slave for the rest of their life. Corporal punishment would be allowed, but not to exceed reasonable limits.

So no worries or responsibilities in exchange for doing what you're told. Freedom for security.

How many Prissies out there?

What percentage of people would want the master role, along with the lifetime obligations?

You know how much I love you, but you always seem to take the side that We Need People In Charge Giving Us Rules So That We're Not Too Different.

You are speaking of Maj Hassan. 1, that is at work, so that is different. 2, I would give people *at work* some leeway too. You have to make adjustments for a blind worker; it does not see me that the world will end if some religious nutter doesn't want to be alone with women. I'm sure there are enough people that his goofy need can be accomodated.

If it CAN'T be accomodated, well, then he'll have to be told to do the job like everyone else, or find another job; but I don't think the first impulse should be 'NO WE MUST ALL FOLLOW THE SAME RULES."

What I am talking about is a bookshop imposing a dress code. If You believe that YOU have the right to dress however you like ON SOMEONE ELSE'S PROPERTY, I'm afraid you're exaggerating your own imagined rights and, worse yet, denigrating someone else's real rights.

If you owned a bookshop, I assume you would claim the right ot set the rules for behavior -- no shirtless men, no loud profanity, etc. Why you would deny someone else this same right -- just because his conception of proper behavior differs from yours -- eludes me.

Your way is, frankly, the corporate sort of way I don't like. You want a Rules-Making Authority above us, making sure we don't deviate from the line.

I do not want this, and not only do I not trust the sort of people who worm their way into Rules-Making positions, I actively hate them. (Or most of them-- present company excluded, if you're one of the rules-makers.)

At some point you must begin to accept that someone eles'e right to free expression, or to live his life as he will, may offend or upset you, but he has that right, and you do not have the right to not be upset.

Thing is, these other groups are already probably insisting on X and getting away with it anyway, so this concern can safely be ignored. The only way in which it is significant is in terms of fair play, but since the other side has never played fair and is numb to such concerns, this too can be ignored. 285 Leftwingers do this all the time -- they employ the rhetorical gambit, "How silly it is for you to ever care about this trivium!"

So you say: Well, Old Man, if it's trivial, surely you wouldn't mind conceding the trivial point to me, eh?

At which point they say: "Are you mad? This is an important matter of principle!!!"

To be fair, this happens with some on the right as well. The reason is not so much ideology as weak rhetorical skills and intellectual immaturity. People haven't learned to argue or structure their thoughts logically, so they can't make sense when they try to defend their position.

I find this sort dull to talk to because their arguments are so easy to demolish, usually in a manner that leaves them utterly unaware they lost, that its a waste of time.

For example, on twitter, someone demanded proof God existed, so I provided the cosmological argument, which took a while and after a while the guy got distracted and sniffed "give me one thing that you cannot measure scientifically or with your senses" except he was not as succinct or intelligent in his statement.

I responded "the very question you just asked." He replied that he won because I couldn't answer, and I pointed out that I had answered him: the idea that he was arguing was by its very nature impossible to measure with science or senses. I further noted that logical positivism (the position he was promoting) had been demolished nearly a century ago because it was so blatantly self-defeating.

His response: "I prefer to cling to Logical Positivism."

So I dropped it. He was beyond reaching with language.

You cannot do business in the US without a business license.

If you have a business license, they have decided, through Sophistry, that you give up your God Given RIGHT, and enumerated in the Constitution, of Freedom of Association.

335 Ace is correct. If you own a business and do not want to serve someone because of race, creed, color or religion that is your RIGHT. However this all changed in 1964 with the feds overreaching and forcing people to serve any and all due to the need to "correct" the past transgressions based upon race, etc. While everyone has been indoctrinated to think the 1964 Civil Rights Act is some gift from heaven, it is the same overreach as last weeks supreme court rulings. You are either free to discriminate or you are not. Freedom does not mean you get to force people to do things because you think it is right. If someone does not want to serve blacks at a lunch counter, then they are discriminating and making a stupid business decision. But it is not up to the federal government to "fix" it.

349 I've been thinking about this very thing for a long time-

and in essence the "problem" is that we as a country

already have a large group of people who self-conform to a set of behaviors that allow them to be successful:

These people are called middle or upper class.

Progtards look at the outliers -

those who are unsuccessful in society because they refuse to follow a program of successful behaviors and thoughts that world-wide allow them to enter the middle or upper class-

and try to construct laws to force the outliers into productive behavior.

The problem comes in - because they can't allow themselves to identify society's self-made losers.

So, in the interest, of "fairness" they try to impose these laws to control the outlier's behavior on everyone.

"Yes means Yes" and "Rape Culture" is a great example of this. As well as deeming phrases like "everyone can succeed in America" is racist.

Everyone can succeed in America-

The solution to the outliers problems are right there in front of their fucking faces every single fucking day.

But , they choose to fight reality then whine when their magical thinking fails.

Ultimately, as Ace suggests, we need to say GFY to the SJWs.

But we also need to say GFY to the outliers, we need to stop funding failure and we need to stop encouraging failure.

They need to grow up like the rest of us, self-improve and surf the chaos of everyday life.

Will everything work out hunky-dory? God, no. It never does ( hence learning to surf the chaos).

But, wanting people to do the best they can with what they have-

instead of being stuck in a pathetic life-long position of self-imposed powerlessness-

is an act of love.

Oddly enough, I can sympathize with Hilldawg on that one. When you have only one line, how the Hell do you know if an incoming call is a fax or a real call? I had to use fax for years at work, often over a cellphone link, and it was a major PITA, let me tell you. Try faxing a 3-foot long strip of a well log as a single page over a bad cell connection. I am so, so happy that e-mail has essentially made fax all but obsolete. And I don't have to transmit logs anymore, either. Now the loggers all have satellite uplink, and can post the logs in real time on a secure server for their clients to view in the comfort of wherever.

Yes. And?

Lots of things we allow are morally wrong. In many cases there is only civil recourse when quantifiable harm is done. In some cases, not even that.

It is morally wrong to be a drunkard.
It is morally wrong to view pron.
It is morally wrong to treat women poorly.

None of these things, in itself, is illegal. None of them should be.

Freedom means the freedom to be wrong. You can, even should, choose not to do business with people of whom you morally disapprove (or should be able to). That does not mean the law should prevent them from doing business as they see fit.

You know how we bust on Obama because, in international affairs, nobody believes he'll back up his word and so he's become a doormat? We're like that when it comes to our rights here. Nobody believes we'll do a thing, and so they are surging forward with their purge of our culture.

Culture is not skin color, race, or ethnicity. It's culture. It's the traditions you choose, lifestyle choices, and values of a people. Over 20 years ago I realized that despite the lefts demonization of big business , that they were more comfortable with the left.
Big business doesn't like free markets they prefer regulations that inhibit the growth of new competition and are statist and crony capitalists.
Moreover it was during the Clinton era that I realized that the American left would tolerate a third world raping multinational as long as they had a black a gay and a women (now a tranny) on their board.
It's time for those on the libertarian and traditional right t realize that just like Mussolinis Italy big business serves the state.

Allowing racial discrimination is just morally wrong.

--

Sure. But is it something that the government should be involved in? Adultery is a moral wrong, too. Does that mean we need federal adultery laws? One could make a pretty good argument that its far worse on society than being a jerk to someone.

I think I knew I was making a mistake when I said "morally". Yes, adultery is morally wrong. I've committed it and I don't want the government involved.

I do not think I can agree with you that legitimized racism is just "being a jerk to someone". I don't think we can be the society with the ideals we embrace if we allow some to be kept from pursuing them in any form because of their race or other identifying random trait.

I think you're conflating, hopefully accidentally, "institutionalized racism" wherein the government actively discriminates based on race and "allowed racism" wherein the government simply does not punish when private citizens (in whatever capacity- personal or business) discriminate based on race.

The latter is morally wrong, as you state, but not something over which the government has any legitimate power.

The former is not only morally wrong, but an abuse of governmental power- government, being the sum of the citizenry (in a democracy or a representative republic), has a special duty to avoid such abuse.

I have major issues with things like turning someone down to eat lunch in your public business. Or government agency. Or even cab companies.

I have no issue with imposing standards, like dress code.

I have major issues with forcing very small/single proprietor businesses to contract with individuals they do not wish to contract with. So, pizza business serves everyone equally in restaurant but chooses where they want to cater? Fine.

I'm not sure exactly how that should play out legally, though.

487 And about anti-homosexual laws, don't be silly. If there is one social cons that wants them, there are 100,000 leftists that want anti-Christian laws and guess what, they succeed in getting them.

And they're both wrong - both in terms of liberty and in terms of morality and Christian ethics. Sinful does not mean illegal, whether you define sin as the God does, or as Obama does.

503 Because the reason given is an assumption that someone not pure white race is inferior and worse as a human being.

Not necessarily so. My daughter (6) has announced she wants to "marry a boy with brown skin, so she can have pretty babies."

Now, she's 6, and I wouldn't accept such a shallow answer when she was older, but people with such shallow answers exist.

I won't date [insert race here] because I don't like how they look.

I won't date [insert race here] because I don't like their culture.

I will only date [insert race here] because they already share my culture.

Etc.

Racism is bad, yes, but the nature of the human race is such that it can run a spectrum from "unfortunate" to "evil" and really everywhere in between. Once the government gets involved, though, everyone loses a little more of their freedom.

Government may be a necessary evil, but the fact that it is necessary does not change that it is evil. So we should be very careful into which parts of our lives we invite it.

That's a shop worth returning to.

Yes, you'll probably get looks. People will be curious who you are and what you want if you show up completely out of type. A huge biker dude in colors walking into a formal dance. A white guy walking into a barrio restaurant. The record doesn't stop with a screech and the piano player doesn't stop playing. But people turn to look. Who's that? Why are they here? What do they want?

Some people take that as hate, discrimination, and threats on their life. But 99 times out 100 its just people curious and looking.

Every day I wake up and ask myself if today is the day when everyday people say "ENOUGH!" ENOUGH with the perpetually offended. ENOUGH with the social engineering that is ripping society apart. ENOUGH with the most racist president ever to hold office on the pretense of the very opposite. ENOUGH with the MEDIA and their one sided distortion of the facts and obvious bias to the left. ENOUGH with BANNING things.

When will hard working Americans start to slap this shit down and hold accountable peoples feet to the flame?

When did we become SO reactionary to every little waste of oxygen who has a youtube video? FUCK THESE PEOPLE

It time for society to purge itself alright but we are purging the wrong things. We embrace laziness and promote AWFUL behavior based on a false narrative that hurting feelings is bad when in REALITY it these very people that need a swift kick in the ass and be shown what real life problems are.

When the fuck is this country going to wake up and REFUSE to have a finger wagging at them by rich out of touch cock-holsters and cunts behind a desk on a fucking set?

I live very close to many MANY people who are gaming the system and yet there is no fear of the law coming for them. There is absolutely ZERO incentive to get to work. No, just keep pumping out a baby and fir gids sake don't even THINK of getting of the couch unless of course it's to go get your god damned welfare check. So fucking sick and tired of these people.

The saddest part of all of this is that the people who shout for these laws and banning of things need a fucking 'app' to tell them when to inhale and exhale.

We need another Reagan or I don't think we will last another 20 years at MOST.

1) are conservatives putting gheys in jail? in the past 40 years? being worried about your church tax status EQUATES wanting gheys in jail? a simple yes or no is enough

2) is it a crime against humanity to point out that a lesbian princess on a pea commenter has said a very insulting and OVER THE FUCKING TOP hyperbole? another yes or no is enough.

3) is pointing out the obvious, 'picking up a fight'? Another yes or no is enough

Here a lesbian friend of yours cannot be called out on the offensive lies and bullshits she said WHY?

Thanks for proving she is such a weakling that constantly needs protection.

I am 200% sure, if anybody else had written that conservatives want to put gheys in jail, you would have lashed out a parade of insults to shame a truck driver.

Apparently the legion of righteousness is ok with some lesbian being cut more slack than others.

The sentence was so fucking idiotic that reminded me of Joe Bidens "you are all going back to being in chains" said to a black audience.

Accordingly, Reagan didn't defeat Communism. He won a major battle in an ongoing war which we are losing culturally.

Badly.

In fact, Reagan's Cold War victory hastened America's decline because we thought we had won the ideological struggle.

Well played, Communists.

True... but the day we had recruit liberty there was a downpour and lightning, so the PMOs forced us to spent most of the day at the bowling alley and bused us back to our barracks. the question was not how right or wrong.

The question is 'has it happened and how is the likability that it happens'

I dont understand if you are trying to avoid the elephant in the room because you are lesbian-struck like the rest or you simply missed the matter entirely.

So if a democrat tomorrow comes out speaking to a ghey audience and said "they (the cons) will all put you BACK IN JAIL" we should all give up any retort because one lesbian here said the same, completely unchallenged?

Have you see this plan on any conservative candidate platform? even Santorum?

Well special lesbian snowflake here repeated this matter several times yesterday.

While we are here discussing if conservatives will put gheys in jail, someone else wisely commented "We have allowed them to remove prayer in schools, and replace it with homosexuals in schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. Since when do we allow the left to teach our boys that anal sex is healthy and natural? "

I am sure you have noticed that unlike conservatives, leftists have advanced a very huge lot of homosexual matters.

The odds that we will be somehow successful in jailing them is pretty much zero.

Wrong. It was about maintaining the mores, flokways, and customs that allowed both virtue and liberty to exist.

The Left got their way because those "intolerant" Americans actually cared about individual freedom. Now that the Left is in control, that individual freedom will be crushed underfoot.

It isn't just a matter of who gets to impost on who, but of a fundamental difference of a dying culture that cared about freedom, and a dominating one that cares about anything but.

Marines generally do not refer to them as MPs. In fact, if you Google "PMO" you'll see that the term is generally associated with the Marine Corps. I didn't say we were handled by the PMOs. All I said was that on liberty day we were walking around for an hour, there was lightning, and we were told by a passing PMO that all recruits were ordered to be at the bowling alley. And I didn't say the PMOs bused recruits around. I said we were bused around when it was lightning out, in white school buses.

Yes indeed. Now taking into consideration that I am from the "Old Corps", and my information may not be up to date, but I never heard the term PMO or Provost Marshalls Office before in my life. Yeah, but sometimes people would refer to me as the haole at Filipino church I went. It didn't offend me when they used it, because they didn't mean it in offensive, but descriptive many. Pancet, lumpia, crispy pata, lechon.... now I want to go back.....

610 I would force him to bake a cake and deliver it, so long as that is the end of the service and he doesn't need to participate in the reception or some such shit. If he doesn't want to serve the PUBLIC, then don't open a store catering to the PUBLIC. Advertise your bakery as private and catering to handpicked customers if that's your thing.

612 I understand your reasoning. I just disagree. Some might argue you could use a similar reasoning to make Jews and Muslims serve bacon and pulled pork in Alabama then.

Posted by: Draki at July 01, 2015 05:21 PM (QL1Y0)

613 I would argue that in my bakery gays and all of the public are served and can purchase anything that is already on display. The gays can have as many prepared wedding cakes, bavarian creams, and blueberry cakes, but I wouldn't make a custom cake for their wedding. To me making the custom cake is participation. Some might argue that even selling the goods already on display is participating. I'd like to hear their reasoning for such.

614 The thing is- I would probably, *probably* never even think of going into the Islamic bakery. Even in a metropolitan area, one finds amenities with which one is comfortable and sticks with them. I have the bakery I go to on Saturday mornings, and I'm not going to try out a new one since I'm known at my usual bakery, and we have enjoyed each other's company for many years. Susan Lee

I don't think service is the issue that has irked people, but the requirement to participate. None of the cases that I know of have involved a refusal to serve homosexuals. If they want to come in and buy cake, no one asks "Are you a homosexual"? But if you desire to enter into a service contract, that is an entirely different thing. No one has a "right" to have their wedding or Bar Mitzvah or stag party catered to by whomever they chose. There can be many reasons for refusing to service a particular occasion, and religious incompatability can be one of them. Can someone go into a homosexual owned bakery and demand that the proprietor bake them a wedding cake that says "God hates homos", or even something less outright offensive like "Marriage is a union between one man and one woman"? And by the way, all businesses are already private businesses, by definition, unless they are run by a government agency. Why would one need to post such an obvious fact?

Posted by: Tanarur at July 01, 2015 05:29 PM (zwD8x)

617 I don't know what you mean by "gay cake." I was referring to a standard wedding cake, which just happens to be for a gay couple. It doesn't need to have dildos and dicks on it or anything.

And it's not comparable to bacon because Jews and Muslims wouldn't sell bacon in the first place. I'm referring to a situation in which a baker says, "I'm very happy to bake your wedding cake! Oh, wait, you're gay?! NEVER MIND." I don't see how putting two male figures on top of it violates one's religion. Do Christian bakers demand to know whether a baby shower cake is for a child born into or out of wedlock? Children out of wedlock violates their religion too, but I've never heard of it being an issue.

See, that is the problem. Because you cannot comprehend a thing does not make it not so. The free excercise of religion means the free excercise of an individuals religion, not the religion that you think they should have.

As far as I know, no Christian baker was forced to do anything with a cake outside of baking it. In my view, a person running a public establishment should not be able to discriminate on the basis of immutable characteristics, such as race, gender, religion, etc., so long as there is no particular message involved. I'm talking about the usual wedding cake, which has nothing written on it at all. At best, it has a male/male figurine on top of it. They're private, but catering to the public. So I think that means they should serve the public.

Posted by: JoeShmoe99 at July 01, 2015 05:36 PM (XsOa7)

Posted by: Tanarur at July 01, 2015 05:34 PM (zwD8x)

No, it's just that I don't think the free exercise of one's religion encompasses the ability to discriminate against someone who's not asking you to do something you wouldn't normally do if the person asking were some other color, gender, etc.

Imagine a woman comes in and asks for a wedding cake to be picked up from the store on the morning of July 10, and baker agrees to do it, accepts a deposit, etc. The cake has nothing written on it but is decorated with white roses. Then, on the appointed date, the woman comes in with her fiancee to pick up said cake. All of a sudden, the baker who was happily prepared to accept her money now claims he can't sell it to them because they're lesbians. That's not the free exercise of religion. That's the use of one's religion to object to a lifestyle that is not one's own.

Posted by: JoeShmoe99 at July 01, 2015 05:40 PM (XsOa7)

624 I think, in my opinion, as far as I know...

Not meaning to be overly offensive, but who actually gives a fuck what you think about it? I generally assume that no one particularly gives a fuck about my opinion, and I certainly don't go around thinking that the world should be run according to what my personal opinion is about any particular subject. You can think whatever you want, but stay the fuck out of my business. If you don't want to bake a cake for my wedding, then GFY, I will spend my money somewhere else. By what right do you suppose you get to force people to do, think and act according to your personal whims?

625 By what right do you suppose you get to force people to do, think and act according to your personal whims?
Posted by: Tanarur at July 01, 2015 05:42 PM (zwD8x)

Not offended at all, and it's a good and fair question. We pass laws all the time based on people's notions of right and wrong, fair and unfair, etc. I know that the govt has proliferated beyond all reasonable measure, but we've been doing this ever since the founding of the country so it's not a statist issue. The Founders understood that this will be the case, and adopted the Constitution to impose a minimum set of values that cannot be crossed. So the government can (though it shouldn't) make any law it wishes, so long as that law doesn't violate the Constitution. In my view, forcing a Christian baker to bake a common wedding cake does not violate his religion because that cake happens to be for a gay couple. I understand that they are sinners in his view, and while I disagree with that notion, I am not his co-religionist so I won't impose my interpretation of his religion on him. But, I am fully prepared to say that if he chooses not to bake a common cake because it will be used to celebrate one or more sinners, he should go out of business because everyone is a sinner to some extent, including him. So unless he intends to give a morality test to each customer and deny those he deems unworthy, he should just bake the cake, not give a rat's ass what it's going to be used for, and keep his hard-earned money.

Posted by: JoeShmoe99 at July 01, 2015 05:50 PM (XsOa7)

626 Again...in your view. Why do you think that your view is the gold standard by which religious freedom is apportioned? People get to practise the religion they chose, not the one that you think they should have. There are plenty of things about all religions that I might find, silly, stupid, superstitious and even hateful. But I wouldn't dream of thinking that I can tell another person what is legitimate about their religion, and what is not. I guess that is because I am not a totalitarian.

Posted by: Tanarur at July 01, 2015 05:56 PM (zwD8x)

627 Well not in my view because I'm not in government. If I were, you could vote me out of office for passing laws you disagree with.

My point is that you're mistaken in saying that the cake baking involves the exercise of religion. It doesn't. In my example, it's using religion as a basis for discriminating against a lifestyle one finds objectionable, which is not "free exercise" thereof. By contrast, I would find it offensive to force a Jew to fry bacon because he wouldn't do that regardless of who it's for, so his refusal to do a task isn't borne out of discrimination.

Chick-Fil-A was delicious, but the target errand was not so fun..... Putting the two gay guys on top, I wouldn't sell those decorations in my bakery, or making a custom cake is something I wouldn't do without coercion. To me, it'd be like making a custom cake celebrating porn or drunk driving. I'm not going to do it.About the children issue, yeah it's sad that they're born and out of wedlock, but they're a distraction and not what the cake is actually celebrating, which is the gay wedding. I'd happily make a custom cake for a straight wedding with gay people attending. I'm also not going to make polygamy cakes either, even if it's 4 dudes and 1 girl.

Say a business doesn't want to serve you for some reason - you have a dog. You don't like the bible, whatever. The implication of the decision is a loss for both people - the customer does not get served, and the business loses a sale. There is a built in disincentive to correct the issue, and in the very few cases where this occurs, another business, less scrupulous, or religious, or what have you, will readily leap into the gap and fulfill that need.

The implication of Bill Quick's moronic analyses is simple - all your businesses really belong to the STATE, and the STATE doesn't discriminate.

He is preaching communism, pure and simple.

633 Whomever brought up Hasaan has riled my thoughts. The military has also made accommodations to which I object as a veteran. We had standards and they should have remained...As an elite force, we should have been able to keep gay people under DADT, or the females from changing standards to the exceptional programs of the Rangers and SF. A Muslim soldier gets to use HIS religion to not shave a beard or wear head gear FFS, and a stellar Army Chaplain with 20 years of exemplary OER's is now being harassed and could lose everything because teh gays. This is not acceptable and it's fucking up our Military. There should be ZERO bending for anyone when it comes to standards we have used for 200+ years.

I have nothing against anyone but this blanket shit has got to stop. The left was whining way back in 2004 about how they were "denied" free speech, wanted the gov't out of their collective sex lives, they hated Bush. I mean, WTF, already!!! Pretty soon we're gonna have to watch someone take it in the keister because #tolerance. The left is honing for all of it and yet still willfully obtuse that it will affect them.

If we aren't for liberty, we are for nothing. I don't have to like anyone, you don't have to like me. But I get to fucking say so without being fucking sued. Everyone is not likeable to others for whatever reason--get. over. it.

Remember the days of "No shirt, no shoes, no service." when people paid attention and nobody whined. They said, "Shit." and turned their unclothed selves back around.

disclaimer:No interwebs or news all day makes me a pissy thinker.

634 "America is in a dark chapter of its existence -- we have faced worse external threats, but not worse internal threats." I take your point Ace, but the Civil War was a worse internal threat than today's cultural marxism. As for you deciding who you will or won't serve in your own store, that freedom was lost around 1964.
