When Greece's finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, in an early round of negotiations in Brussels, complained that Greek pensions could not be cut any further, he was reminded bluntly by his colleague from Lithuania that pensioners there have survived on far less. Lithuania, according to the most recent figures issued by Eurostat, the European statistics agency, spends 472 euros, about $598, per capita on pensions, less than a third of the 1,625 euros spent by Greece. Bulgaria spends just 257 euros. This data refers to 2012 and Greek pensions have since been cut, but they still remain higher than those in Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Croatia and nearly all other states in eastern, central and southeastern Europe.
And here Mark Steyn describes the onerous life of a Greek civil servant:

Instead of looking for ways to help employees when they retired, employers were looking out for themselves and seeking tax deductions, while minimizing pensions....The 401-k was a page-and-a-quarter of the 1978 Tax Reform Act. It allowed companies to set up defined contribution plans in which employees put money in, invest it, and collect the money when they retire. No one envisioned what Benna did with the 401-k, and it is doubtful Congress intended it that way. Unions have come to oppose defined contribution plans. Perhaps because the 401-k makes it easier for workers to participate in capitalism.
He was working on refining the pension plan of Cheltenham National Bank of Philadelphia in 1980. He had gone into work on Saturday where he would not be distracted by colleagues and phone calls, he read the code and had a Eureka moment. He credits God for the discovery, and who am I to argue with him?
Benna's plan was brilliant, because it allowed pre-tax payroll deductions of the money, and allowed employers to match some of the investment to encourage hourly workers to save money for retirement by investing their savings in mutual funds. Because it was retirement money, this forced workers to think in the long term and not worry about day-to-day changes in the market.
But his plan was not in the law. Benna wrote it. None of that was in the 401-k legislation. Unsure of the legality of his plan, Cheltenham National Bank. He said, "My approach was that if the code doesn't say thou shalt not, then thou should be able to."
Johnson Cos., an insurance and finance company in Newtown, Pennsylvania, was the first to take the plunge. Benna received initial approval from the Internal Revenue Service, which later promulgated regulations enabling Benna's plan.
More than 30 years later, the 401-k is now a $4 trillion industry.

There was a comment from a guy in the center-right Greek opposition about the decision by Syriza to close the banks for a week.
He pointed out that in a modern economy with electronic financial networks and international trade orders to settle, damn little if anything can take place without banks being in active operation. And that it isn't just possible to shut the banks for a full week and not have that be severely consequential.
But, as he pointed out, the majority of Syriza party officials have never ever worked in the private sector in their entire lives, so they do not understand those consequences.
Fortunately, here in the United States, our top man has private sector experience. Albeit that the time he spent scooping for cones behind the counter at Baskin-Robbins as a teenager was his longest single stint of non-law-firm private sector employment.
So we got that going for us, which is nice.

It's interesting that Obama and the MSM did not trot out their usual mantra of gun control this time as they did with the Colorado movie theater shooter, Sandy Hook Elementary CT massacre, and Gabby Gifford's shooting in AZ. Each of those incidents had an equally high or higher casualty rate than the one in Charleston, yet each time Dear Leader immediately grabbed a microphone to push "common sense gun control."
Yet with Charleston the media instantaneously swarmed around the flag and not the usual culprit, guns.
Just seems a bit, I don't know, inconsistent.

I lived there in the late 80's early 90's. When the unions wanted a paid vacation, in addition to what they already had via mediation, they would go on strike. For a minimum of two weeks. They would then come back, with full pay for those two weeks, plus extra money for something or other. The rest of us had to deal with Athens after two weeks of no electricity, water, taxis, bus service or garbage pickup.
I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for them.

And I suspect there would (WILL) be a little whining her if (WHEN) SS was (IS) cut drastically. People these days get used to living right up to what they bring in.
Again, not feeling too sorry for them all in all, but it would be the same thing here, other than the age of retirement. But not all of them getting their pension cut are 58. You have to figure there are a lot of old people.

It was a coup and counter-coup, actually. The Honduran Constitution has no provision for removing a president from office. So when the president started his illegal actions, a counter-coup was the only option available for dealing with him.

The Honduran supreme court had the constitutional power to use the military to enforce their decision. Zelaya had ignored their earlier ruling and decided to hold a national referendum on his staying in office past the limit. He had his buddy Chavez print up ballots and, while they were being held at a military base (becuse the Honduran supreme court had ruled the referendum illegal) Zelaya and his junta just broke in and took them. This finally led the honduran supreme court to remove him (by a choice he was given) with the help of the military.
Everyone in the world agreed that the honduran supreme court was in the right ... except for Barky. barky's explanation was that the voters had elected Zelaya so, therefore, he could do anything he wanted, "regardless of any stupid restrictions in the constitution".

Pierre Sprey who was one of the Fighter mafia with Boyd, etc. He was involved in drawing up the original design requirements for th A-X and had a role in the requirements for the LWF. He was no designer and did not work on actual aircraft designs. he was a statistician/analyst and was of some importance but not a designer.

The Honduran Supreme court noted that Zelaya violated the constitution by advocating being able to run for re-election, and that the constitution mandated that anyone who broke those that rule was automatically removed from office. All they did was declare that that was so.
It should be noted the the Honduran Congress voted overwhelmingly in support of this, including most of Zelaya's own party.
All the candidates who were running for President remained running for President and the election was for the most part fair and open.

Reading ace's takedown of the F-35 earlier, and the F-15/F-16 air superiority arguments, it reminded me of early Vietnam when the F4s were deployed without cannons. Cannons are not the primary mode of air-to-air combat, just as dogfighting is not, but it's foolish to dispatch with those capabilities completely.

What would be so bad about instead of the gov't taking X dollars out of your paycheck for retirement, those X dollars are instead placed in a 401K, IRA, Money Market, or heck, even regular old saving account that you can't touch until age 65 or so?
People already vested in the pensions can be grandfathered in to their existing plans but workers starting after a certain date would get the new system.
I guess the bad thing would be it would cut out the government/union middlemen.
Public pensions have only given the gov't a slush fund with which to fund other projects and now that the pension payment are coming due and there's no money left, the debt is now going to be everyone's problem.
Ugh.

If the military can accept the plane will NOT be the Swiss Army Knife of planes it could still be decent. Ditch the delusion it will replace the A-10 in the CAS role and kick the F-35B back to design stage to work its issues out. Or just admit defeat the B is a dog and see if another plane can be built around the F-402 Pegasus engine of the Harrier.

Again, there is nothing in the Honduran constitution that allows for the removal of the sitting president. What you're describing is pretty much the same as the US Supreme Court declaring that the sitting US President has violated his oath of office. It doesn't matter one bit unless the full-on Impeachment takes place.

The training given to pilots did not prepare them for aggressive combat maneuver prior to Viet Nam. They were all expected to use missiles to shoot down their opponents. The early Sparrow (AIM-7) was remarkably unreliable; its kill rate was terrible. The early Sidewinder AIM-9 was good, but still had problems with limited aspect ratio (you had to line it up to get a good tone -lockon), and if you were too close, you couldn't use it because it had to fly a couple of seconds to arm.
The F-4 had plenty of power, but at low altitude, the Migs could out turn and outrun the F-4. If the battle got to higher altitudes, the Migs would turn and run because the F-4 then had the advantage. It wasn't so much dogfighting by the Migs, as they were directed by ground radar to a favorable intercept positions to shoot from behind and run away, especially on F-105's, that were usually bomb heavy on the way in. The F-105 had four 20 mm cannons, but was too big and couldn't turn with the Mig (17, 19 and 21). So the 20 mm guns were useless for them.

I perused the F-35 thread from earlier.
It's extremely unlikely that two "fighter" aircraft come within visual range today while in an engagement. You engage at range, move out of range, then possibly re-engage if the missile(s) did not impact. Missiles exhausted, short of a suicide mission, you dis-engage and fight another time.

That's pretty clear ... even in google translation. "immediately cease". So the honduran supreme court didn't remove zelaya from anything. He removed himself.

If you have one of the disorders that react to this chemical, you may be able to find out by not eating any for long enough (a month to two months), but you have to be completely perfect about it, no mistakes - until it's time to test at the end of that period - at that point, you pretty much know.

It's nothing you can do casually, you have to be paranoid about food. Especially during testing, don't trust anyone else to prep your food. Have your own cooking implements and surfaces. That includes restaurants that claim to serve GF food (WTF Papa Murphys, you idiots).
It sucks every day, but if you need it it can save your life.

I use a two foot long section of 4" PVC pipe with a clean-out plug on the back end. This is tapered down to a 2" PVC barrel that is about 5 feet long. The potato is cored into the muzzle end and ramrodded down to the back end of the barrel (breach). I spray about 5-7 seconds of AquaNet hairspray, screw in the clean-out plug and spark it manually with a Coleman lantern flint mounted through a hole in the side of the combustion chamer. I, for one, would like to not have to pay any SS tax whatsoever, but I think my idea would be a good compromise between what we have now and the liberals who do actually believe we cannot be trusted with our own money.
I'm 32 and have an IRA and contribute to it every year, despite the economy affecting my line of work acutely. I would like to contribute to it even more if I was making more money.
And seeing as SS will probably be gone by the time I can retire (if ever), I'm paying that money into a fund I might not benefit from. I'd rather have that money in a bank where I know where it is.
Liberal public workers (BIRM) who actually think the gov't takes a fiduciary duty over their pension money are gullible and I'd like to sell them a bridge.

Then the US Navy got with Rockwell to develop an American successor to the AV-8A called the YFV-12. Which turned out to be such a monumental dog, that after six years of trying to make it work it was cancelled in 1980. One YFV-12 still exists as a museum piece.

I copied my B-I-L's design with a little help from the internet, added a couple of tweaks (e.g. I beveled the outside edge of the muzzle end so it acts as a cutting edge when loading the spud, makes a nice core that fits air tight in the breach.

The problem is that in a high EW environment... or even in a really BUSY environment (Desert Storm)... IFF becomes unreliable...
Hell... we had so much active radar going in Desert Storm that our normal 256 nm range radar (1/2 million watts of radiated energy) was lucky to paint aircraft at 75 miles... I had to put attenuators between the receive element of the Antenna, and the Receiver because of all the radiated energy being shoved straight down the Wave guide.

You know, you just might want to wrap the chamber and barrel of that thing with a layer of parachute cord, or other small nylon rope, and follow up with a wrap of duct tape to keep the rope in place. Because if an especially-strong charge went off, that 4" PVC might split, and send sharp fragments flying. Better to make the breech plug the weak point, and never place yourself directly behind it when firing.

Technicall grains in general have gluten, but only tritacalensis (someday I'll look up the spelling of that) grains have Gliadin.
Basically you're avoiding exactly one thing that has a number of sources, the only ones you're likely to run into are wheat, barley, rye, spelt, kamut, and triticale (in rough order of commonality).
Yes that means 98% of beers are off-limits. Also anything malted (malted barley).
Processed foods can have a lot of contaminated madness in the form of starches that they don't specify the source. Maltodextrin from the US and Canada comes from corn, from Mexico it might be wheat, etc.
Pharmaceuticals are a nightmare because Pharmacos almost *never* accurately list the source of starches in their meds. Half the time you can't even verify it on the phone. None of them is universally good but Sun Pharma is terrible.

Modern AAMs are more maneuverable than modern aircraft. Fifty years ago (Vietnam) an AIM-7 had a range of 10-15 miles and had to be guided into the target the entire way from the pilot airplane's radar.
Fifty years is a long time and electronics/avionics have progressed a long way since then. An F-35 pilot swings his head, fires an AIM-120, off it goes, and, it tracks its own way to the target.

I'm a combination of self-employed and W-2. So when I'm earning W-2, money out of my paycheck is already going to Uncle Sam and I have to also write my own check to him every so often for my self-employment tax.
Yes, every dime of that I would rather have at my disposal to do with as I see fit. But if the only choice was between giving it to the gov't or having to put it in my own IRA, I would choose my own IRA any day of the week.

I actually think that reason is Obama's fault. His opening remarks about the shooting he started talking about "now we will mourn but soon we're going to have to have a conversation about gun control." And almost all of his remarks were about gun control and not their murder.
So before the bodies are cold dumbass Obama is trying to tie them to strings to be his puppets for gun control again. And I think that soured a lot of people. The media probably caught that that was not going to be well received.
And of course they couldn't try and gin up blaming the Republicans either because they were all connecting with the murders through Christianity. Stupid faith in God damaging the media's efforts to use death's for their agenda.

Northrop has always had iffy luck when it comes to military contracts. Starting with the YB-49 and the orders to destroy the planes. The F-5/T-38 became a big seller because the USAF bought it first and then helped sell it overseas. F-20 was another in house idea, and after $1 billion and no contracts Northrop gave up.
The YF-17 lost the USAF LWF. But Northrop was not going to give up since the Navy was looking to replace the A-7 and remaining F-4s. They partnered with MDD to produce the F-18. MDD helped snagged the contract but also saddled the plane with issues. And then MDD stabbed Northrop in the back by selling F-18s to customers that Northrop was trying to sell the F-18L version to. So Northrop ended up as a sub-contractor on a plane it originally designed.
And then there are the B-2 Spirits. Which is a great plane. But when production keeps getting cut back, the R+D costs gets funneled into fewer planes so price kept rising. And suddenly too expensive to afford. And now the USAF is looking for a new manned bomber design.

The decision was approved of by the Honduras Congress, including the now former President's own party, with all but three agreeing.

The Sparrows were constantly being loaded and unloaded in field conditions. This had an impact on reliability. Another issue with the Sparrow is the firing plane must paint the target with its radar, thus denying the fighter any real ability to evade if he wants to score a hit. Meanwhile range is closing between planes. Semi Active Homing Radar is what they called it.
Now the AMI-120 has its own radar, much like the AIM-54. And they had plenty of issues of making that gizmo work in a Sparrow sized missile body. So theoretically it is a fire and forget. Assuming you have positive ID on Bandits from AWACS to splash them BVR and the other guy's EW can't spoof the -120.

The F-20 was always intended as an "export" airplane. Customers who had bought F-5s were seen as the target. One piping hot engine versus two smaller engines designed for T-38 trainers with the updated cockpit. It wound up competing for the same customers as the F-16 which was a generation newer and not that much more expensive. So.

IIRC, by the time of Viet Nam, dog fighting was considered to be passe because of all of the AAM's being developed. But because the Mig's were armed with cannon, close in fighting was not possible with the F4. I believe that's why the Top Gun training was developed.

Many, many moons ago, I built a carbide cannon capable of chucking an empty beer bottle about a hundred yards, howitzer-style. The barrel was the rolled-paper core from a roll of carpet, with a wall thickness of about a half-inch. Very tough stuff, but if it did burst, it would become confetti, not shrapnel. Used a Coleman lantern striker, just like Muldoon's tater cannon.

Modern AAMs are more maneuverable than modern aircraft. Fifty years ago (Vietnam) an AIM-7 had a range of 10-15 miles and had to be guided into the target the entire way from the pilot airplane's radar.
Fifty years is a long time and electronics/avionics have progressed a long way since then. An F-35 pilot swings his head, fires an AIM-120, off it goes, and, it tracks its own way to the target.
That's great if we're fighting third world pissant armies like Iraq or Iran. It's not so certain if we become involved in a full on all out war with a China or Russia (10 years ago I would have called anyone who suggested the possibility crazy. Now I'm suggesting it). Dozens or hundreds of airframes mixing it up over a static battlefront changes the tactical situation radically.

Some stuff got changed and I couldn't get into my own computer even tho it said the password was ok. Also found a profile I did not recall being there.
This PC is one I saved from ransom ware a friend stumbled into. Lost all the data, but was able to restore to factory settings.

Basically, the IMF creates a special kind of psuedo-currency called SDRs (Special Drawing Rights). The monetary high priests have always been purposely vague about just what they are. The US Treasury holds its quota, and the Fed has monetized it.
Sometimes, the IMF and the member countries central banks do some magic with these. They were trying to pull some sort of SDR trick with Greece in the past, but I forget the details.

I was doing some research on South Korea military purchases after the F-35 thread below. Korea did order 36 Apache helicopters which would be used against North Korean rocket launchers to be delivered in 2016 and 2018.
South Korea was going to spend about $8 Billion US on aircraft and in 2013, one group really lobbied for the F-35. Negotiations fell apart when Lockheed wouldn't lower their price and the process had to begin again - which was probably best.
Hell, I'm just impressed there are countries out there with our values that actually spend on their military outside of the United States and Israel.

Full disclosure: I'm half Greek (my mom's from Athens) and I love Greece and Greek people are some of the warmest, nicest people on earth. But they like taking the easy way out; they live for the moment. They remind me of the fable The Grasshopper and the Ant. Greeks are the Grasshopper -- have fun all summer with no thought for the coming winter.
Yeah, yeah -- the banks lent money they knew Greece could never repay; and yes, the politicians borrowed it knowing it could never be repaid but it helped them kick the can down the road. Time to pay the piper.
But what really pisses me off is that some of those "austerity" measures the MSM keeps talking about is raising the retirement age from 55 to 67 and increasing income taxes on those making more than $500k a year by 8% (everyone who makes less than $34k a year already pays zero income tax). I don't have much sympathy and like I said: I love Greece. I have close family who are suffering. Still -- instead of finally being responsible the last election they tried to kick the can down the road some more by blaming the Germans and electing a dick-less communist atheist (who's Greek, btw, is only marginally better than mine) to "stand up to Merkel." They are going to get what they deserve (Putin "owning" Greece, instead of Germany, which I think was Tspiras' plan all along). Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

When I was 16 years old, I was manning the night shift at a liquor store in Newhall. There was a regular who worked out in Palmdale on some chopper -- possibly the Apache. It all boils down to what Frau Merkel will do. If she wants 'em out, out they go. If they are ejected by the EU, all Greek euros will be declared null and void (I believe even the banknotes have markings which indicate country of origin, so you know Greek euros even in cash).
If they do that, the Greece's no longer has any valid currency that will be honored internationally. At that time, it's up to them what to do. Keeping using their own euros internally, but which are worthless, or print up new drachma, which will be worthless.
Remember Greece is heavily dependent on imports for the necessities like medicines and all that. They will be fucked.
Actually, personally I don't have much use for the EU and Greece's creditors, who foolishly lent them money they knew couldn't be paid back. Only by fraud did Greece (and several others) get into the EU. The whole damn thing has been as big a fraud as anything. And they all deserving the "haircuts" they're going to get, one way or the other.

During WWII, the Soviets were cranking out 2,000 tanks a month. More than enough to replace battlefield losses. The T-34 was such a beast that in order to shift gears, the driver had to sometimes hit the gear shift with a sledgehammer.
The Sherman was deathtrap. It cooked off like a Zippo lighter, but, we made thousands and thousands of them. The German Tiger was the best on the battlefield, but it was complex and couldn't be mass produced quickly.
Nobody has that kind of production anymore. The war would be over before you could convert civilian manufacturing to a war time footing.

There is a very interesting little side note buried in this -- Euro notes are printed in Euro countries and indicate the country of origin. But of a German takes 300 Euros worth of German Euro bills to Greece on holiday to pay his bar tab, he will be receiving change in Greek Euros during his stay, and nobody will blink. Accordingly, Greek Euros can be found throughout the Eurozone. If Greece's creditors try to devalue Greek Euros, it could hit the cash drawer of a cafe in Paris.
But if they don't, what's to keep Greece from continuing to print them? They've got the plates. They've got the motivation. They've got the attitude that the Germans owe 'em a happy life. I wouldn't be surprised if Greece were running three shifts per day on the printing presses -- and, again, if you have packets of these guys and start buying stuff in the shops in Berlin, nobody would blink.

Oh, no -- they're all sophisticated and European and superior and well beyond such pettiness. And each bank with a set of printing plates has totes pinky-swears that they'd never, ever, ever print banknotes if every item on the printing checklist weren't absolutely performed correctly.
But, yeah, each cash drawer in a Eurozone country is probably only about 80% that country's Euro notes -- and in tourist areas possibly much less. So if they declare Greek Euros invalid, some pizza place in Dubrovnik that just hosted a Greek expat party could end up unable to pay his rent. And, of course, once you deposited your Greek Euros in an Italian bank, your bank balance would be in generic electronic Euros and they'd give your cash out as change at the tellers.
And if they go after the Greek Euros, why would anyone accept a Spanish or Portuguese Euro in change for a purchase with a German Euro?

What worries me is that they got the SF86 data on everybody. For those that don't know, the SF86 data is the answers to the extremely personal questions they ask on the lie detector while processing security clearances. The answers won't be used against you (unless you confess to shooting the President), but they can be EXTREMELY embarrassing. Have you had an affair, done drugs, sniffed your sister's undies, lusted after Hillary - that kind of stuff, basically a blackmailer's wet dream. EVERYBODY who has a security clearance is now vulnerable to blackmail, and the ChiComs have the means to do it. As a practical matter, the USA does not have any intelligence services anymore.

But since it is not one country, but a union of countries, the cross-national monetary activity is complicated. A few years ago, I was up on all this, fascinated with it, but have forgotten the details.
Each EZ member country's central bank is sort of like one of the regional fed banks. Cross pollination has to occur. But with us, it's all under one national umbrella. The Head Fed in Washington controls it all. In the EZ, there's the TARGET2 cross system, and IIRC, things can get quite convoluted with the monetary balancing system (ie, which assets are backing which currency on the individual central bank balance sheets).
If Greece blows, the TARGET2 mess could create a situation where the other countries needed to "take a monetary haircut" and be forced to somehow pull wads of now-unbalanced and unbacked euro of the system.
And Greece wouldn't cooperate on its end. IOW, to maintain monetary balance, Frau Merkel might have to inform her citizens of a big haircut coming to all the money they thought they held.

And the dollar they get in the future is based on yet another farther future promise to do the same dollar of work (or production, or something physically real of value).

If you don't use your phone for anything really beyond calling and text I would look into one of the discounted services. All the carriers have them. I know that Cricket Wireless is ATT's for instance. You'll still get your pictures and can save some money.

Hmmmm... The MG-42 is a fine gun, in fact it's a great weapon. Really detructive. the M-60 is a cheap imitation of it, true and the MG-42 tends to run better without interruption. However, don't underestimate the value of the M-60 over the MG-42 for practical use in the field. I've mucked around with both (M-60 mostly, obviously) and the 60 has advantages over the 42, which can a bitch as a squad LMG. As a fixed position or vehicle mounted MG, the M-60 can't touch it. But, as a carried section LMG, the M-60 has the edge, IMHO.

Essentially, central bank money is created on the promises of people to continue economic activity. A dollar is a promise that someone will do a "dollar's worth" of work in the future. I have to disagree with you, here. Monetary systems are very real things and don't depend on the government, itself. They are, at their heart, nothing but counting systems that people use to keep track of wealth. They are necessary and useful - to say the least.
The problem is when one of the main criteria of money is violated. If that doesn't happen then the money is ... as good as gold. Even a total fiat currency. But the temptation for authorities to violate the monetary rules to their benefit is very great and has never, in history, been stopped for any fiat currency that has ever existed. This is why gold was, is and will always be the best true money around. It is
1) anonymous,
2) indestructible,
3) rare,
4) uncounterfeitable,
5) easily verifiable,
6) almost infinitely divisible
7) easily discernible as to ownership and
impossible to create.
It is money in every sense.
I would put a little note in that bitcoins (and many crypto-currencies) are also very interesting and satisfy many of the criteria for money but with the added benefit of being able to be transferred instantaneously across any border and used online). There are, to be sure, many problems with these crypto-currencies and how ownership is handled (public transaction record chains, cryptographically locked which the bulk of "miners" 'agree' to work on given some ephemeral criteria ....) but the ideas behind these currencies are truly genius and they satisfy most of the definite requirements for counting/ownership systems to serve as money. The lack of central authority with the power to create the currency is also a big, big plus that the crypto-currencies have over central bank money.
Anyway ... just thought I'd throw that all in there ...

My recollection is that gold HAS been produced in larger particle accelerators, by whamming a proton (or very light nucleus, say helium) into platinum (but why?), or by poking a lead atom with a neutron ... just right.
Note that this is just one atom at a time. To get 1 (one) gram, the process has to be repeated a bunch of times ...

But, I think we can all agree that gold is "effectively indestructible". basically, the point is that if you have stored your wealth in gold and your house burns down or someone blows it up, your gold survives that. Opposed to, say, ... cash stuffed in a wall when the house burns down.

Most soils can be prepped to grow about anything. If you have a Green House you can grow tobacco even in climates that are normally to cold to do so even without electricity.
There is a lot of do it yourself info on tobacco growing to be found on the net.
I have another indispensable item growing in one of my Green Houses.
Coffee Trees. They will be three years old this coming November.
I do hope the electricity holds out a few more years. The beans are usable now but the best ones need to be at least three years and older.

Oddly enough, I actually captured it. It is not unusual for me to run a bracket on comments -- have one tab starting at one and counting up to when I say "howdy", while I have another starting at "howdy" and keeping up with the thread. Whether it be duplicative safety rules on the fireworks themselves or requirements that truckers limit their weekly time on the road, the makers, marketers and distributors of pyrotechnics complain that Obama's regulators are completely insane by forcing so many standards on an industry that's as much a part of a patriotic summer as baseball and apple pie.
Officials at the Consumer Product Safety Commission counter that the fireworks industry is still operating in a danger zone. Data released last Friday counted 11 fatalities and more than 10,000 injuries from fireworks in 2014.
Gee how awful. 11 fatalities and 10K injuries in a country with over 300 million people. And it would be interesting to see how they arrived at those figures. I do not trust any numbers at all that come out from these assholes. When I was a kid you could readily buy "real" fireworks. Those are long gone now. We have become a nation of pussies ruled by nannies and communists.

Sorry Bobby, that is a myth created by shallow teaching of history in the public schools. All those initial colonies in the NE that were founded by religious sects were not founded for freedom of religion. They were founded so that they could have their own preferred religion as the government. (Note SC was an economic founding by the Lord Proprietors and they did invite multiple religions, but it was for pure economic reasons).

Every summer in my youth, we partied out here at the ranch, but especially on the 4th. Lots of friends and relatives, swimming, picnicking and, of course, shooting off tons of fireworks, ending with a modest but fun pro show at night.
I know of three injuries in all those years.
One, some friend of a friend, unclear on the rules everyone else knew, threw a Black Cat at my back. Stung a little. Ruined my t-shirt. I mighta been nine. Made me mad.
Two, despite our father's repeated and explicit instructions and warnings about how to handle fireworks, my oldest brother had to go to the hospital one year when the roman candle he was holding in his hands exploded. Providing a fine lesson for all the rest of us. See? It does happen!
Three, the one year I got to go sit out by the Big Fireworks launch area. My older brothers decided to end the show with a double big bang.
Problem was, the big bang fireworks fit in the small mortar.
No problem, they decided, we'll use the big mortar anyway. (You see where this is going.)
Firework in the correct pipe went up and went boom high in the sky, as intended. Firework in the wrong pipe went up, went back down, and went boom right in front of me, knocking me off the tailgate of Papa's station wagon and deafening and blinding me for quite a while. Spectacular!
Accidents happen. More often, they're Carelessnesses. If not outright Knew-Better Stupids. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Americans should revere the right to allow Darwinism to be in effect with fireworks.

Also, having flash installed is another pretty major vuln.
I left it off my new install and haven't felt the loss. The major video sites like Youtube now are HTML5 capable, so the work fine.

Youtube will autodetect an HTML5 compliant browser and default to that automatically. Pale Moon doesn't appear on the supported browser list.

In case no one else explained it (and anyone else cares):
Both towns are located on the Sandusky River, which flows South to North into Lake Erie (most OH rivers flow north to south to the OH River basin). Even though Sandusky is north of Upper Sandusky, Upper Sandusky is located upstream of Sandusky and therefore received the "upper" designation. Upper Sandusky was also the site of the Wyandot Indian reservation.
