17 Saw over at WZ that there are girl scouts camping on the White house lawn. Is it really camping if you're campfire is a bunch of battery operated lights?

I just can't see camping being any fun without a real (big) fire.

19 So, the socialist Prime Minister of Greece previously announced there would be a public election to vote on whether to accept the EU's terms. (He urges a "No" vote.)

But yesterday a new poll came out suggesting that the referendum might pass. Ooops!

His response? To threaten to cancel the election!

More proof, if any were ever needed, that socialism and democracy just don't mix.

If you elect a socialist, you are taking a big risk that is the last election you'll ever have.

Well, it is called the Colorado Canyon. The whole hundreds-of-miles-long canyon system along the Colorado River is indeed the Colorado Canyon.

It's just that this part of the Colorado Canyon is the Grand Canyon, because it is so very grand.

Other parts of the Colorado Canyon have other names too, like Glen Canyon and so forth.

Right on! You'll like it. I discovered it while reading through the sources list for one of Tony Horwitz's books. This Preston writes very much like Horwitz, which is a great thing.

The book will make you sad in some ways though, as Preston talks with some of the very last of the old-time western ranchers and gets into their battles with the BLM and EPA.

Riveting read, though.

Isn't part of the "price dispute" betw Ukraine and Gazprom, uh, that Ukraine is massively arrears in their payments? My bad if that has changed.

Gas pipelines (and railroads) were an exciting, adventuresome part of the early post-USSR scene, as the former republics used them to pressure/extort/punish each other for various reasons. And being "paid up" to the energy exporters was usually a rare situation.

For 99.9% of people, the Confederate Flag is basically their version of the Gadsen Flag. When the Dukes of hazzards had it on a Dodge Charger, they weren't making some statement regarding slavery or white superiority.
