Here's a little something to chew on.

REPORT: OBAMA ADMINISTRATION FAILED TO DEBRIEF AMERICAN FREED FROM CUBA

The Obama administration has yet to question American Alan Gross about his lengthy imprisonment in Cuba--six months after he returned home in a prisoner swap that set the stage for full normalization of U.S.-Cuban relations this week, the Daily Beast reports. Though Gross spent more than five years in a Cuban prison, and could potentially provide valuable intelligence on the regime, as well as information about political prisoners, the Obama administration showed no interest.

"The failure to debrief Gross fits into a pattern," writes the Daily Beast's James Kirchick. "So determined is the Obama administration to normalize relations with the Castro regime that it resists treating Havana as an adversary."

114 Sleeves? Have you found dresses with sleeves?! Can you share some of this?!

I've been looking for a daytime dress with sleeves to wear to a thing in September, and there's not a sleeve to be found anywhere in the mall, except on "mother of the bride" evening wear which is totally not appropriate for daytime. Posted by: HR braucht ein Bier at July 02, 2015 11:01 AM (ZKzrr)

Have you ever tried EShakti? You can customize the hem and sleeves on almost every dress. Not every style over there is a winner but there are a lot of good classy shindig appropriate dresses.

The fact that Macy's, PGA etc., NBC, and perhaps NY is coming after him only makes me stand more firmly behind his speaking out about what is happening to this country. Soon enough the Republicans will come out in that circular firing squad, most likely supported by Jeb Bush cronies.

199 I'm thinking of lunch. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Anyone ever run into this with Mexican restaurants? Or Chinese, Thai. whatever...

With pizza or sandwiches for example. I have my favorite places, sure. But, usually, wherever I get a pizza, I like the pizza. (unless it is obviously nasty). Different pizza joints/sandwich shops have different ingredients, different styles, different tastes. Sometimes you are just in the mood for a certain flavor. But, almost always, I am pleased with the result.

With Mexican, I have my favorite Mexican place. But, some people I know love some other places. They think it tastes better, more authentic, whatever the case is. And, I always get the itch to try these other places...usually about once a year...and I am always ALWAYS disappointed. And, I think to myself, "Why did I come here? I should have just gone to Juan Doe's Restaurant in the first place."

Do ya'll run into the same thing? Is there something about "exotic" cuisines that lends itself to only liking ONE restaurant and disliking others?

Yes, there is something to that. But I think it hinges mostly on whether or not the dining experience results in Rectal Rocketry.
Incidentally, I saw Rectal Rocketry open for The Mud Butts at Coors Amphitheater in '99.

Well, its like with the refried beans. It depend what brand of can they open, you know?

Kidding, sort of. Spending restaurant costs on mexican food, no matter how "good", gives me hives. The whole point of that cuisine is cheap cheap cheap to make

Dunno about Mexican, but with Asian food the chef's/cook's talents and flavor palette do matter.
If you like one place go there.

213 Well, unfortunately Mexican is one of those foods I haven't quite mastered. It never tastes as good as the restaurants' food.

And, I am in the mood for Mexican, dang it.

Seriously though, I have been to some icky Mexican joints. But, MY Mexican restaurant is very good (and pricy) but they use high quality ingredients and everything is very fresh, huge portions. And, I actually know a restaurant inspector who said their restaurant is the cleanest in town, that their place is kept impeccably.

215 @199 -- Sadly, I cannot get decent Mexican food where I live. It is what I miss the most about the left coast, everywhere you go you can find edible, decent Mexican food. Then you head East and .... nothing. Don't know if its local tastes or lack of decent spices, but I never eat Mexican food east of Denver without planning on being disappointed. It's easier that way. I'm sure it's out there, maybe. I get so tired of mystery green and white sauces they pour over everything...Applebees used to have a decent Santa Fe Salad with pico de gallo that was tasty, served with sour cream and guac (w/out peas). Of course, they discontinued that. Taco Bell (sob) is all I gots.

And now I'm hungry.

216 There are multiple Mexican restaurants around I like. It just depends on what I'm in the mood for.

TickledPink, I have been using the frontera sauces for enchiladas/fajitas. Pretty good, imo.

Yeah, well, my place is pretty popular, and I am going to lunch alone.

I don't want people to see me there alone and feel sorry for me....or worse, invite me to sit with them. I go to lunch alone, because I WANT to go to lunch alone.

These other places are less busy (ie dead) so I can probably be left alone.

221 We should share Mexican food horror stories. Not the Rectal Rocket type, but food type. Was with hubby on a TDY to Tyndall. Stopped at a little Mexican place outside the gate. First warning was the gum chomping blonde with a very thick southern accent. Next warning was when we asked for chips and salsa, despite the warning that we HAD to ask, was the basket of Saltines and tabasco sauce they brought. And dry. Yeah. They weren't around long.

What I don't support is the notion that if I do anything, participate in any commerce of any sort and that commerce enriches any liberal anywhere then I'm part of the problem.

Went down to Panama City Beach probably 10+ years ago. There was a Mexican restaurant across the street from our condo, so we decided to try it.

Worst. Mexican. Ever.

It looked like a Mexican place. The employees were Hispanic. I got Nachos, and I kid you not, it was the round out of a bag chips and yellow cheese topped with toppings. Sis got taco salad, which the shell was an out of the box taco salad shell, not a freshly fried tortilla.

228 Recently, Arbys had a smokehouse turkey sandwich, which had smoked turkey on it.

229 The United States has blocked attempts by its Middle East allies to fly heavy weapons directly to the Kurds fighting Islamic State jihadists in Iraq, The Telegraph has learnt.

Some of America's closest allies say President Barack Obama and other Western leaders, including David Cameron, are failing to show strategic leadership over the world's gravest security crisis for decades.

They now say they are willing to "go it alone" in supplying heavy weapons to the Kurds, even if means defying the Iraqi authorities and their American backers, who demand all weapons be channelled through Baghdad.

... amazing that they never mention Turkey

230 @226 Yep. That's my experience with Florida Mexican food. Out of the box, could've made it better at home. Only place I've had good Mexican in Florida was at Disney World in the big pyramid in Epcot. Excellent, but extremely expensive. That was 10+ years ago as well, so who knows what it's like now. I guess there are the chains everywhere, Chipotle and such, but beyond Disney, I've never had a good meal and a sit down place in Florida. And don't get me started on the margaritas...

Posted by: RedDish at July 02, 2015 12:03 PM (5eXg1)

231 @230

Oh yes....always wanted to try that. The one that the boat ride goes through?

I always end up going to the quick service places and getting a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I graze.

Posted by: TickledPink at July 02, 2015 12:09 PM (RLFFI)

232 That's the one. We usually graze as well, who wants to sit at Disney? But we were offered a good reservation time, left the kids with Grandma and had a very nice meal. It reminded me (as a SoCal native) of the yummy sit down restaurant that was/is inside the Pirates of the Carribean ride in Disneyland.

234 Not quite a rectal rocketry story, but while in Nuc School, buds and I would go out to Chi Chi's or Casa Gallardo for margarita nights. Always pigged out on their (mediocre) "Mexican" fare and did endless "shots" of hot sauce. The next day in class we had farting contests. Got so bad one time that a female ensign teaching our Calculus class only used the half of the chalkboard on the side opposite us. We got punished by our section chief and had to stay over 2 hrs that day. It was worth it.

Good times. Good times.
