What brought it home (as if other events hadn't made the disaster clear) for me was something I saw on Facebook this morning: a photo of Choom Boy with a text saying that opposing the president and wanting him to fail is TREASON. When that kind of thing appears, you can pretty well depend on old-fashioned stuff like "laws" and "civilization" not offering you much protection.

I was talking with a former USAF jet jockey who said that he realized he had a sick jet, and had been trying to decide whether or not it was safe to eject, when the aircraft abruptly disintegrated around him.
It certainly relieved him of the burden of making the decision.

If you let people come in when they want, you will owe them money that isn't budgeted. This is common practice at many places. I worked for one place where if you clocked in more than 15 minutes before you shift you would be in trouble too.

Just got a very good offer - 12K a year more than I make now - but that was from a company on Philly. As a history buff I love Philly, but the last thing in the world that I want right now is to move from one eastern city to an even bigger eastern city.

Yes, the kind of military coups and dictatorships used to be unthinkable here. Patriotism was too ingrained in the military.
They want to switch soldiers' (and everyone's) loyalty to abstract leftist ideals, away from loyalty to American citizens as such, so that the leader who embodies those ideals (ie. Obama) will be able to command them to do anything, and they will do it, no matter how horrible.
