But now the spectacle is taking an even more dramatic turn. on June 30th, Venus and Jupiter will appear so close together just 1/3 degree apart that they'll look like a tight, brilliant double star in the evening sky. You'll be able to cover both with the tip of an outstretched pinky finger.

Turn off. Clean screen. Reboot. Happens with touch screens. Especially if there is just the slightest finger oils on the screen. Some units are sensitive enough to pick up on that.

I'm 6-2 and 230, but I wasn't considering firing from the shoulder. Just want unlimited mags, secured targets, and firing as long as the barrel heat will let me. Just need the release, that's all. No other response (or gun) feels like it would be enough this morning.

98 Circa - the F-4B Phantom II was a pure Navy design for an interceptor. It was designed to carry 4 AIM-7 Sparrow and 4 AIM-9 Sidewinders. That was its only original mission.

The F-111A was intended by the USAF to replace the F-105. A low level supersonic capable nuclear armed tactical bomber. Not to tangle with fighters.

The F-111B was supposed to take the AWG-9 and AIM-54 of the Navy Missileer program and cram it into the F-111 airframe. And thus create an interceptor to replace the F-4. Grumman got saddled with the task of adding a tailhook, FB-111 wings, a new shorter radome, and a myriad of other modifications. The TF30P-3 engines could be counted on maybe 25,000lbs of thrust from each. But the F-111B was severely overweight. Thus it had a Thrust to Weight ratio of of less than 0.5lbs of thrust per 1lb of airframe. Grumman tried WIP and SWIP to reduce weight but it was still a pig.

But McNamara thought F really meant Fighter and lo the decree was issued. And the Navy was stuck with a sow's ear called the F-111B.

Then let the Army provide their own close combat tactical support and let the Navy/Marines develop aircraft that meet their needs.

As Vic pointed out, you can't build a do-it-all aircraft. It's like building a ship that can submerge, is an aircraft carrier, can fight surface engagements, and land on a beach.

139 I believe others have mentioned this but the only way forward if the SCOTUS is going to act as a super legislative body, then it should be representative of the 50 states.

To that end, the SCOTUS should be expanded to 50 and and each states legislature will propose a jurist. Obviously the president can select who he wants but the congress can simply refuse to approve those outside of those picked by the states.

Congress sets the number of SCOTUS members so this isn't an issue.

This maneuver would have to be undertaken when the GOP controlled congress and the presidency but I think this has a more realistic shot then a convention of the states.

We need 38 states to ratify anything out of a convention and we simply do not and will not have the required number to pass any meaningful amendments, I'm not saying don't try but an Article V is simply not the magic bullet.

Which meant the cannon and Sidewinder armed F-8 Crusaders became the MiG killing champs when looking at loss ratio.

It's bound to come up, so why not now: an F-15 jockey who's flown in those memorial formations with a P-51 said he'd be hard put to deal with one, close in. When they retired the Skyraider, the wailing and teeth-gnashing made this Warthog dustup sound like a quiet evening at the Officers' Club.

Stealth has repeatedly been touted as the way to avoid getting killed in a BVR fight. If you're unseen you'll live.

Except that the F-35 brings one thing to the table stealthwise. Radar stealth. In other aspects, such as its infrared signature, the F-35 isn't stealthy at all. And can't be made better in its IR output due to constrained design issues. Meanwhile, IRST, infrared search and track, is the fastest progressing airborne sensor technology.

Weapons which excel at finding warm things against a cold background, meet the warmest object in the sky.

If you own three CVN, then at any given time, one is deployable (or underway), one is in pre-deployment workup, one is in refit.

Clowngress mandated by law that there be 12 CVN total, to hence provide three immediately deployable carriers at all times. Then only provided enough funding for 11 big decks.

Contradictions. How do they work?

The Navy said, uh, got a problem here. Clowngress said, oh, okay, you big sillies, you can go down to eleven carriers if you have to. We're sure there will be no problem.

Fast forward to a short while ago. A carrier battle group sailed home from the Indian-Ocean-slash-Persian-Gulf area, and was replaced on station by... nothing. Because there were only two available carriers.

Clowngress threw an infantile tantrum. Shrieking indignant butthurt. This is an outrage! Who is responsible for this huge lapse in America's capabilities! We demand answers at once!

Well, the Clowngress is responsible.

Marbury v Madison may not have "caused" this, but it certainly set the stage. Much like the saying "No one became an alcoholic without taking their first drink," if the Supreme Court doesn't assume the right of Judicial Review, and leaves it to the States (where it belongs IMO), then a whole host of ills goes away.

There were certainly other steps along the way, each one making it harder to go back. The Civil War was one- the end of Federalism, and the beginning of a National government. Roe v Wade was another- the making up, out of whole cloth, of a "right" which does not exist in the Constitution. I'm sure the Horde can come up with a laundry-list of others.

It fills a niche that nothing else does.

It's also exorbitantly expensive, costing more per flight-hour than almost any other airframe in the inventory -- say, anyone remember when the Marine Corps had a culture of prudent frugality? -- and it has a nasty habit of crashing. Bad crashes. Most recently the lethal one in Hawaii.

Class A mishaps used to be defined as $1M in damage to the airframe. The threshold was raised by the USMC brass to $2M simply to keep down the number of Class A incidents involving the Osprey.

Our chief complaint against Roberts is that he did not properly exercise judicial review over Obamacare. If Congress and the President pass a law that is contrary to the Constitution - the Constitution must control - as it is supreme. That law cannot be stand as it is extra Constitutional. That is judicial review.

Usurping the democrat process through the guise of substantive due process is not judicial review.

There is no doubt the Court and others have wrongly used M v. M to assert judicial supremacy. But judicial review is implied through the supremacy clause.

Per FLSA a manager, which is strictly defined, is not someone who does something, he is someone who directs. As such his hours must be more flexible and has to be the sort of position that comes in off hours to fix issues.
Paying a non-management position a salary that does not account to at least minimum wage and OT for the hours worked is a serious issue, and can rack up thousands in penalties.

Make employers pay OT to managers and you now have destroyed all management positions that are not also officers of the corporation.
Everyone becomes an hourly worker, just some with management skills are "lead-workers". All that extra responsibility and prestige and job-skills that could transfer to another company or another position are now gone. People with extra skills are kept back to actually do useful work so the ass-clown drinking buddies and toadies to the upper management can get the management spots.
It will be just like most federal agencies.
