Republicans are starting to get kind of freaked out about this whole Trump thing.
“Donald Trump is like watching a roadside accident,” said former George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer. “Everybody pulls over to see the mess. And Trump thinks that’s entertainment. But running for president is serious. And the risk for the party is he tarnishes everybody.” Those risks were amplified this week after a trio of polls showed him likely to earn a coveted invitation to the party’s debates, which ironically were restructured with the very goal of avoiding the circus-like atmosphere of 2012. Giving Trump a major platform just as the country is tuning in is not exactly the Big Tent the party’s bigwigs had in mind.. “I’m not excited about somebody as divisive as Trump or somebody as obnoxious as Trump being on the debate stage,” one RNC member confessed.First, a bit of throat clearing: Trump is an ass. He's a liberal. He's not going to be President or even the nominee. With that out of the way, contra that RNC member, I'm giddy at the prospect of the GOP having to deal with Trump. He's very valuable in one key way, holding a mirror up to what is wrong with the GOP. The "serious" candidates are awful. They are milquetoast. John Kasich and Marco Rubio...hey, SCOTUS ruled on gay marriage, move on. Jeb Bush...nuke the filibuster to get rid of ObamaCare? Gee, I don't know let me think about that. Scott Walker says he'd nuke the filibuster to repeal ObamaCare but his personality isn't exactly...electrifying. Trump is a clown but he's says things people are feeling. I know conservatives hate the whole "I have feels!" thing but guess what...people do. You need to acknowledge them, reflect them and connect with them. Republican candidates are far more at home in the boardroom or the congressional hearing room than the living room and it shows in the candidates they keep picking. Remember how Romney got crushed on the very important "cares about people like me" metric? I bet Trump, for all his money, scores off the charts on that. Rubio probably comes closest but as you saw in his reaction to the SSM decision, he's really most passionate about amnesty, how much he loves America and a hawkish foreign policy. He never really talks about smaller government or out of control government. He just wants to be the rationale manager of it. Unless and until the GOP can find a candidate who hits the sweet spot of being seen as a plausible President and caring about people's lives, it's going to be in big trouble.

Seriously? Romney was the perfect candidate for the Dems to run against because he was a walking liberal caricature of Republicans. If anything, Trump is worse. Romney is a rich white businessman. Trump is a rich white businessman whose catchphrase is "You're fired."

Fr'instance: how come they're constantly ignoring the deficit? No American household can continue to function economically as this government is currently doing. Who the fuck gets to spend 150% or more of its income every single day? How does that even begin to make sense? Therein lies the perfect reason and justification for dismantling the World's Largest Organization (TM).
But is anyone in the GOPe field making that argument? If they are, I sure haven't heard it. The economy is dragging along the bottom, yet no one other than Cruz is even mentioning it.

Don't like 'em but glad they're in the race: Carly Fiorina, Donald Trump. Trump would be an awful President, but he's speaking about issues I want to have addressed. Fiorina, I don't think she's ready for primetime, but for as long as she's in the race, she will be on the attack, and that's worth the price of admission.
Flat-out not getting my vote if they're the candidate: Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, Jeb Bush.
Where he's right, he's very right and when he's wrong, he's gawdawful wrong: Rand Paul. The stars would have to line up just right to sell me on him, and the spectre of his father... 'nuff said.
It would be nice if some genius could synthesize everybody's preference strata and calculate the ideal candidate, but not holding my breath.

Provocative rhetoric is clearly the way to go. Sure the facts are on our side (Math, Science, Reality), but we're going to be labeled as racist, sexist, denialist, and H8erz!
So the only way is to simply turn everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING into an attack. A relatively vicious one at that. Never, EVER answer a question directly, find the nearest Leftist analogue and attack, attack, and attack again. Say "Democrat Plantations" and name an inner city. Use "Fat Cat" and name Big name Donk donors and corporations. Talk about the 1% and toss off more big Dem names. Talk about the Donks destroying the big three entitlements to buy votes, "They don't care about the elderly or minorities, they only want their votes." Hell, that's mild.
The list of things is endless. Do NOTHING but hammer Democrat policy failures and hypocrisy. NEVER answer a charge or accept a question's premise.

I'm not dismissing Carson's accomplishments, but being good at one thing does not imply that a person is going to be good at another. Politics and neurosurgery are completely different animals. Until you prove that they've got significant overlap, I'm very skeptical.

I vacillate on this. I completely agree in theory, but the problem is that the people with an actual record have proven themselves either untrustworthy, or have a fatal flaw.
And it conflicts with another sentiment I share - vote out all incumbents.

The only thing I have to go off of politically as regards Ben Carson is what he's said about political matters. There, he has views on the Second Amendment which raise concern, and admits to ignorance on many issues (Right of Return is one, IIRC) in which the President cannot afford to be ignorant.
Between that, and a lack of a record, I am less than willing to support Carson in the primaries- and I sincerely doubt he'll make it to the nomination.
I haven't even *heard* Fiorina's political rhetoric, so I can't make a judgement there, but her resume at HP leaves much to be desired.
That said- just like I want Trump in the debates, I want those two in the debates. I think someone said it above, but it makes it much, much harder (though not impossible, certainly) for the MFM (delenda est) to make the narrative: "Oh, the GOP is the party of rich old white people!"
And that's a good thing.

Now that IslamaObama can make his own trade agreements without the Senate fast tracked we can be sure he will use it to give Iran everything he wants them to have.

Heck, I remember (sadly) people criticizing their shopping trips to Costco. Judging how much they were spending. Saying the stuff they bought was made in China, probably.

Defend that assertion, please. What is the material difference if Jeb is President instead of Hillary? Rubio? I think you'll find very few here who "trash" Walker, or Cruz, and we mostly think that Trump, Carson, and Fiorina are simply not viable (as in- won't make it very far into the primaries), no "trashing" required.
So, of the ones we *do* actually "trash" (Jeb, Rubio, Graham, and a couple others), please tell the class what the material difference is between them and Hillary.

This country needs an outsider willing to come in and destroy the political establishment, because that is the problem we are facing. Terrorism? Pashah, nothing is more dangerous to the United States right now, than the Washington DC ruling class.
Sure, Huckabee is an outsider and most of the others are part of that establishment, but Trump? Who cares if he is liberal, he at least is a step towards solving the most important danger our country faces....then again give me some Sarah.

The result of that will be marriage being legally defined as a secular governmental function and church weddings not legally recognized on seperation of church and state grounds. You can have your church wedding.... they just wont be recognized by the government. You will have to do the courthouse bit as well to make it legal.

And then you want to get legally married, you go to the courthouse and get that piece of paper. You can do one, or the other or both. Up to you.

Don't be stupidly facetious, we have hipsters for that. The Coast Guard, National Guard, and Park Service perform necessary functions and usually manage to do them right. So does the Air Force although it is the result of a successful in-house DOD coup. The EPA is an unconstitutional parasite that violates the Constitution at will to please the whims of upper middle-class "nature lovers" and Green Marxists. (I'll spot you the Railway Administration as a possible sacrifice.)

Technically, on the ISS the Russian section would be Russian territory. Depending on how the diplomats worded the agreement. Theoretically the whole ISS could be stateless, but that would seem to bring in the UN, and as far as I know (knowing nothing) the ISS is an agreement between the member states.
I'm sure that lawyers in the horde would know.

Yup.... and when I got married the Pastor signed as the ofiiciator and the vows were taken in the Church. The state recognozed the wedding and the Pastor had "the power vested in me by the State of Nebraska."
Under a seperation of state argument.... the pastor is no longer "vested" and the ceremony not recognized by the State.
Terrible Solution.

No, those three listed agencies were created by Congress as per Constitution ability to handle needful things, and are not a danger to the long-term of the health of the Republic. And neither the National Guard, National Bear Chasers, or the Coast Guard has been used by Statists to club us like the EPA has been used. Sure, we could fold the Air Force back into the Army and be constitutional in the technical sense, but it wouldn't change the "peace is our profession" mission of the flyboys and rocket crews.

Not speaking for Drew, no suggestions - the GOP is in big trouble. If you assembled the ideal conservative candidate from everyone currently running, you wouldn't have a game-changer, if only because the rest of the party would fight Reagan 2016 tooth and nail throughout their administration. At best they'd accomplish just enough to lure everyone away from the lifeboats and back onto the dance floor, and we'd merrily resume ramming speed toward the fiscal iceberg in 2024 - "c'mon, we've had 8 years of austerity and the recession is (finally) over, let's spend more money!!!"
Politics as usual isn't working. People don't understand the grim realities lurking beneath the surface. A third party is only one step - Article V deserves support as well.
Rather than writing stinging dissents and getting back to business, we'd have been better off if Thomas, Scalia and Alito resigned in protest after writing dissents about the whole process as well as the case at hand. We need people who are willing to take bold steps. We need people who place integrity and reality above careerism and call the rotten system out for what it has become. It's about time someone on SCOTUS blew the whistle - they're legislators, not judges.
Two years ago, the exact same justices ruled that gay marriage was a matter for the states. They haven't "evolved" - they're merely pandering to public opinion. If that's going to be their compass, let them stand for elections and serve defined terms like other lawmakers.
To the inevitable Adjoran choir who'll rant about how stooopid it is to
walk away from power like that, I'll refer to Atlas Shrugged - unless
and until Rearden and Taggart walked away, their presence legitimized
the corrupt regime to the people and kept the kleptocrats in business.

Obamacare passed under RECONCILIATION rules - simple majority. Therefore, simple majority to repeal.
Boehner, McConnell, and several SCOTUS Justices are on record recognizing this fact.
Don't need 60+ Senators in 2017 for full repeal. All we need is 50+ Senators (or 50 exactly and the VP) and a POTUS to sign the bill and we've got full repeal. Under Reconciliation Rules we need a CBO score showing the bill to repeal will reduce the deficit, but considering the vastly increased estimates on O-Care spending, and reduced estimates on its revenues, that shouldn't be difficult at all. Plus, of course, no reason it has to be a "clean" bill - could add in anything at all that reduces spending or increases revenues to ensure a CBO score that shows deficit reduction.
