And that way they don't have to "ban" anything.

Maybe. The problem with guns is that it is possibly the one issue in this country where people really are unwilling to compromise any more.
Most of us, at the end of the day, don't really care that much about the tiny subset of the 2% of the population that is gay that wants to get married. Not really a big thing (in the short term, if you will) for most people.
Banning guns? We'll see. that could get ugly fast.

If unions and activist groups were also banned from donating, I wouldn't mind so much. But what the Democrats intend to do is make it illegal for the Koch Brothers to participate in politics, but let AFSCME, SEIU, the UAW, the Sierra Club, the HRC, and all of *their* big donors keep right on spending.

Every donation should come from an individual.
Of course they will still ge it by having rich donors hand the poor guy money to donate to their pet, but if the max per citizen is a flat amount, then there would be a limited amount of money in the pool.
If you have 150 million registered voters, and the max is $2k per voter, the politicians would compete for their share of a $300 billion pie of money. (Is my math right?)

States still aren't required to have commissions. But when States that have "bipartisan" commissions (usually a mix of Democrats and moderate Republicans {JV Democrats}), the commission's authority trumps the legislature's.

Conservatives are hampered by their view of "law" as having a moral/ethical/traditional foundation to enable people to exist relatively peacefully in a complex society.
Progressive are more practical and realize that in the right hands (theirs), the "law" can be easily divorced for any semblance of morality, ethics, or tradition and used very effectively as a political bludgeon to bash the opposition into a weak ineffectual force while furthering the progressive agenda.

Hartford Courant comments were full of "well then we should send the state police door to door to check if people have assault rifles, then arrest them if they do and it wasnt registered."

Then, at crunch time, our GOP useful idiots (McCain, Graham, Hatch, etc.) say well, elections have consequences (at least when Democrats win) so the President deserves to get his appointees approved, and they vote for another card-carrying progressive political appointee.
