7 Re SpaceX launch failure this morning. Looks like it was something in the second stage. First stage apparently worked fine up to the point they were ready for staging. Started spooling up the second stage, got an overpressure indication in the oxidizer tank...and BOOM. At least this was what limited info they had at the presser a little while ago. Needless to say, SpaceX is still analyzing the telemetry.

Only half kidding here... and not kidding at all when it ocmes to contemporary music.

You really do have to go completely away from the popular music industry to find it, but there is good stuff being made.

Original? Eh, yeah, that's hard to do. But good nonetheless. It just takes time and effort to find it.

I've seen Yes and ELP live more than once over the years. I never would've figured those two bands would tour together, seeing as how they loved to compete against each other for the title of Best Prog Band Evah.

I emailed Chris Squire a few years back to tell him that although he didn't know it, he taught me a lot about playing bass. Never heard back, but that's no surprise. He was voted Best Bassist in a lot of Guitar Player (No Bass Player mag back then) polls right before Jaco burst upon the scene.

That's how it always has been. Even "original" artists are just somewhat more clever in recombining their influences.

As a musician I usually despise music critics but I read a great article once by a guy who was critical of an attempt by Paul McCartney to write a classical piece. McCartney had made a big deal about how he wasn't going to listen to classical music so he could "do his own original thing". The critic pointed out how the Beatles spent years woodshedding on old rock 'n roll (Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Everly Bros. etc.) before they started writing their own songs.

As another musician, I've noticed how hooks and melody lines are becoming more and more simple. "Rap music" is notorious for this, dependent as they are on loops and repetition instead of actual music form. It's ruining a lot of listeners, IMHO.

Samples are OK, I guess. Thanks to that, we now have Aerosmith again. IIRC, they'd broken up at the time and only reformed when Walk This Way got sampled by some rapper.

203 Thinking about what flag (or flags) the gray team should carry into battle for Civil War reenactments -

- Jolly Roger pirate flag
- banner that says "South"
- Miami Dolphins flag (1960s-era logo)
- orange flag with big blue "01" outlined in white

You'll definitely want to visit Jumpin' Jacks on NY Route 5 in Scotia, just across the river from Schenectady.

206 Starkey is pretty conservative. Catch him ripping lefty aholes on youtube.

Blackhawks, Kings, Ducks, Capitals, Jets, Predators, Islanders, Panthers, Sabres.

Devils, Blues, Bruins, Flyers, Coyotes.
