I just came back from the local Chik Fil'A here in my home city in LA County. It replaced a Burger King a while back.
As late in the afternoon as it was, the place was packed. Evidently giving aid to the pro-traditional marriage forces hasn't impacted the chain's bottom line much even in very liberal LA County.

The few times I have gotten to shoot at 500 yards (scoped and iron sights) was way easier than I expected.
I am also thankful I was able to snag a Garand receiver so I could build one for myself. Now if I can find the time to finish it...

Took my grandma to doctor today on lunch break. In her nineties, immigrated here in the 50's with practically nothing. She and my grandpa worked hard, learned the language, raised their kids to love America, and scrimped and saved. Built a house and bought rental property that she makes income from to this day. Grandpa died a millionaire, she will too, and hopefully will die in her own home in her own bed. Raised four great kids and I like to think the grandkids turned out all right too, hah.
I was raised to believe the American Dream is alive and well, and I see living proof of it every day in my fam. May we fight, with every breath in us if need be, to keep it beating.

Incidentally and related, I discovered last night an old short-lived tv series from 2002 called Odyssey 5 starring Peter Weller.
It's about a bunch of jerkoffs in a space station and then all of a sudden, get this, the Earth goes kablooey.
They're all like WTF???.
In mere seconds the Earth was enveloped in a yellow haze and then imploded. Awesome, eh?
A few minutes later when the space station and space shuttle crews were trying wrap their heads around what just happened, a car floats by!!
So, yeah, that'd be nice about right now.

Grim actually asks me to "Turn on your friends BC and Alexthechick so i can listen to them tonight." That always cracks me up. you may be imaginary friends in the magic picture sending box, but at least for now you are as real as some people we see in RL and considerably MORE real that many of the acquaintances we are forced to deal with here in California.

I have a TV. Guys fight on the TV screen for me for my entertainment. I drink delicious craft beer as a watch them fight. I can afford to do this.
I'm middle-aged and on zero medication. My bloodwork is clean, my blood pressure low. I work out regularly. I have aches and pains, but I can still play with my kids.
I quit nicotine years ago and am no longer a slave to it.
I've saved a nice bit for retirement. We won't starve.
I hate what's happening to my country, but I don't live in a place where I have to worry about ISIS cutting my head off--or the heads of the people I love--for my beliefs.
Things are pretty damned good, actually.

No i did not. There were many tears over that. I have to trust that if she is a live she will fight her way back to me, because she loves me. Or she has passed, and has gone to live in the House Of The Lord. IN which case we will see each other again, and in the meantime she will play with my grandmother who cried and cried for her calico cat just before she died. well now she can have two of mine as well (the other died at the ripe old age of 18.) I do however have four kittens of adoptable age at a friends house and the one remaining kitty is pregnant and likely to give me more.
I guess i gotta be grateful. the reason shes alive is the psycho cant catch her. I cant get her in a cage to get fixed, but neither can anyone else for any other reason.
and yeah, im pissed. What kind of fucker lives in a rural area full of hay barns and rats kills the neighbor's barn cats?

It is pretty neat, ain't it. My problem is threading lamp wire up the thing (I'm creating a light fixture). Very frustrating. I use 18 gauge but am wondering if there's anything I can use that is a bit more flexible? I don't want to go smaller gauge and risk a fire.

Yeah, its counting total divorces and dividing by marriages. Most divorces are by the same person; the odds of getting another divorce go up notably for each one a person has. If 10 people marry and 1 person has 5 divorces, that doesn't mean 50% of marriages end in divorce. It means 10% do, over and over again.

I'm absolutely thankful that somehow i was able to make a perfect BBQ brisket last weekend.
I've make good brisket before but that was ethereal.
Like the Gods of BBQ themselves descended to bless and tend that humble chunk of beef.
No one even wanted sauce.

JJ, back in the olden days solder was 50/50 tin and lead and easier to use. You needed less heat, for one reason. I dunno the other reasons.

Actually what you describe does mean that 50% of marriages end in divorce. But it does not mean that 50% of the people who marry will divorce. My parents were married for 36 years until my father died. Larry king has been married 5 times. In order to get to the 50% statistic with Larry King in the group you would need 5 other couples like my parents.

thats an awesome story Eris! well... Spooky is a tough little cookie as well as a pretty little charmer. What i am hoping like hell is that she cozened her way into another family and they know about the psycho down the road and made her their house cat. Its possible because she is so cute and so funny and talkative. Hopefully the figured out shes allergic to Revolution by now and shes got flea stuff on her and is living the life.
Isnt it awesome we can get rid of pests with those drops now? I always thought that was such a blessing to our animals these days. perfectly safe and free of bugs. wow. Theres a lot in this world that is cool.

I held him slumping in my arms while I yelled for my wife to call 911. He seemed to be faintly breathing and barely conscious while I hit his back and kept him awake. A minute later he was more with it and started crying. EMS got there and his lungs sounded fine. We're sitting in the Norfolk ER waiting on an X-Ray just to be sure. Honestly, we don't think he even got water in him and just coincidentally almost passed out from a breath holding fit.
So, yeah, thankful for my kids. For a surreal minute this evening I thought I was watching my son die in my arms.

The pool water was 85 and he was fine swimming in it for 30 minutes beforehand. He tried to get back in after eating a quick outside dinner but I pulled him out within a second or two. His sister stopped him on the stairs and I grabbed a second after that. He wasn't even unattended. The whole thing took place within about 5 seconds.
After I pulled him out he fussed a lot yelling "no!" at me, until about 30 seconds later when I got really stern with him. He often has a delayed breath preceding a big cry "(like all 2 year olds). I jokingly said "you gotta breath, buddy" then 3 seconds later my wife said "he's NOT breathing". He had his back to me and was sitting on the deck (positioned for me to put his float on him). I saw his little body kinda slump over and that's when I grabbed him and told my wife to call 911.

No, thank God. I have a blood clotting condition that has done a lot of damage to my heart and lungs. But with the new anticoagulant Xarelto, I have not had any recent problems with clots, and my general state of health has been able to slowly improve.

Our son did that. It was like he couldn't breathe. He'd begin to turn blue while we were yelling, "Breathe! Breathe!" And then he'd let out a cry.
His eyes would get really huge, too. It was as if he actually *couldn't* breathe or cry for several seconds. Scary.

We've taken a lot of hits, we almost never made it to a country, we immediately fell into fighting and scrambling for loot, we tried to burn each other down and took an awful long time to recover, in some ways still haven't. And then that shit-bigot Wilson, and FDR and his corruption and power-mongering, and LBJ and self-righteous coward Carter and sellout Clinton and oh how to even describe Obama, and lots more inbetween.
At any one of these moments it could have been over, almost was. We don't claw back to the same place each time, sometimes with good reason, but we claw back to something.
I think there will be an end, but I don't think this is it. Maybe that's just because I'm not ready to say goodbye yet.
And I don't know how long the clawing will take or where it will go... sadly I don't think we're at the nadir of this particular hole. But I think it has one.
I think they will remember this in 100 years. Maybe not 200.
For now, happy some of my old friends are still around. Happy I woke up this morning, here's hope for tomorrow.

And, I have seen so many of my friends and schoolmates celebrating the decision. People who are active Catholics. People who are vehemently pro-Life. Some are really passionate about it. Others are much more quiet, talking about tolerance and what not.
Some went to college, but not ultra liberal state schools. Some didn't go to college at all. So, I have no explanation for why some people, with essentially the same upbringings, why their minds flip a switch.

I don't know if this is true but I saw on some history show that during the American Revolution 1/3 of the population was for Independence, 1/3 was Royalist and 1/3 was indifferent. Maybe it will always be that way with this country and unfortunately the Royalist side having the upper hand now.

As of today, it's not about us tolerating them, it's going to be about them not tolerating us. This has given them to tool to harass anyone and any organization that is not sufficiently compliant and accepting of this ruling.
It's about so much more than just going after churches who won't officiate the ceremony - it will be along the lines of their decades-long attack on the boy scouts for not supporting homosexuality. Any religious organization - schools, adoption agencies, etc. - that has any rules about whom they hire or serve, or how they expect them to behave (if along the church's teachings) will now be attacked (see: Catholic Charities adoption agency in Boston-oops, it no longer exists!). It's now about banishing dissent from polite society.

I remember back in the 1970s when a Greek ship docked in Philadelphia that had a swastika painted on its stern. It was light blue on a white background. I don't remember which way the arms pointed.
Swastika-like symbols were apparently common in cultures throughout the world. Carl Sagan, in his book "Comet", theorized that a close pass by a comet about 8000-9000 years ago was the inspiration. The nucleus passed close enough to Earth that the jets could be seen with the naked eye.
It's just his opinion, of course, but swastika-like symbols appeared in rock carvings around the world more or less simultaneously.

She was booked on this show 2 reasons: 1) she's a wishy-washy conservative who supports homosexuals pretending to be married, and 2) to embarrass other conservatives by joining Bill Maher in mocking and bullying them.
In return Ham gets to be on TV!! Yay.

Now those jokes may be the gallows humor kind of jokes, but those are often the best kind, and it's a big reason I still come in to check this place out daily.

That sounds awesome. I felt that way when I moved onto the family farm in 1980.
I thought it could be a haven for family and friends if nuclear war happened, a survival place.
It was sold by her kids after my Grandmother's death. Now I'm wishing I still had that option after 6 yrs of Obama.
