That is a direct benefit to the church, whereas accommodation was a vague, public benefit and indirect.

So, no shitheel, the government is not going to come in with guns a' blazing and force a marriage.

No. It will be much cleaner and vicious: "You can choose to marry homosexuals and you can choose to quit calling their acts sins or you can choose to forgo all tax benefits and legal protections. We're not forcing you to do anything--it's your choice."

Its Time to Legalize Polygamy

I suspect that many progressives would recognize, would pushed in this way, that the case against polygamy is incredibly flimsy, almost entirely lacking in rational basis and animated by purely irrational fears and prejudice. What were left with is an unsatisfying patchwork of unconvincing arguments and bad ideas, ones embraced for short-term convenience at long-term cost.

We must insist that rights cannot be dismissed out of short-term interests of logistics and political pragmatism. The course then, is clear: to look beyond political convenience and conservative intransigence, and begin to make the case for extending legal marriage rights to more loving and committed adults. Its time.

First, there will likely be no "new president" in our lifetimes. If SCotUS can piss on the rest of the Constitution, they can sure as hell "re-imagine" the presidential term limit amendment, and find that it would be "discriminatory" to have it apply to President Historic First. After all, its intent was to keep Old White Guys from staying in office too long.

Second, repealing Ghey Rights would be worse than repealing the Constitution, because discrimination, and if a future preezy (no way -- see first point) decides to dismantle ChoomCare, the racist bestid could just as easily reinstate slavery, bring back the CBF or enforce some of the laws Our Betters in D.C. exempt themselves from.

198 Okay, I didn't get a chance to ask this question yesterday:

Why the f*ck was TFG giving the eulogy at today's funeral/memorial service? Because, last time I checked, a eulogy was supposed to be part praise for the deceased and part comfort for the families - both of which require someone who is an actual friend.

Even if the president were GW Bush, I can't imagine my church inviting the President to give the mass eulogy (mass as in lots of people - not Catholic) if several of us were gunned down. We might invite him to come, I guess, if it were big enough national news (we're predominately white, in TX, and (obviously) Christian, so it wouldn't be), but not to give the eulogy.

If a family member were murdered and President Bush had asked to give a speech I would probably say sure. But President Bush has actual class and wouldn't turn it into a campaign rally.

This also happened here ( Detroit area) at the Rosa Parks funeral. Our then mayor, Kilpatrick, invited both Clintons and turned it into a reelection campaign. It worked, he got reelected, but went to jail soon after.
