Hillary Clinton: It Is Time to Start Drinking, and By "Time to Start Drinking," I Mean It Is A Time, and Time Continues to Flow As Usual

More at Hot Air, including Claire McCaskill being deployed to tell liberal media hosts that Bernie Sanders is too liberal to be elected.

Too liberal? He's a socialist. Is Claire McCaskill implicitly admitting that Democrat "liberals" are socialists?

Answer: Actually yes, but she'll never explicitly admit this.

Meanwhile, also in New Hampshire, Bush can hear the footsteps... of Donald Trump.

Donald Trump is the Establishment's own fault. I've been saying this forever: These are not business-as-usual times. 1996 was a business-as-usual time. The economy was growing, the country was at peace, relatively, and there wasn't any bizarre cult of Identity undermining all the pillars of stability in society.

We have been in an extraordinary time for a while -- and I don't mean that in a good way-- and rather that comprehend this and act upon this, and realize that being a conservative in dire times means more than wearing a conservatively-tailored suit, our idiots have continued to play all the old McConnell/Boehner games, losing policy so we could win on the issue, Failure Theater, dissembling catch-phrase rhetoric, etc.

What

Going

To

Happen?

24 The Republicans have zero chance mostly because about half the population assumes "Republican" means "evil" and aren't even paying attention when anyone says or demonstrates otherwise. They compound that by promoting ideas and culture that too much of the country thinks is awful and humiliating: hard work, self reliance, responsibility, etc.

The Democrats don't even really have to campaign; look at what Hillary is doing, look at the Obama campaign in 2012. In any sane time, Obama ran the worst campaign in the history of the coutry; he spent the entire time insulting the bulk of the nation and sneering at it. Because he didn't need to convince people to not vote for Republicans. He just needed to stir up his base enough to get out of bed and vote. enough to get it within the margin of fraud.

Caught just a few seconds of Cruz's reaction to SCOTUSCARE atrocity. Nice angry tone, but couched in stupid sports metaphor (umpire calling strikes/balls etc.). If he would just speak in plain (and substantive, non-stupid-sports-metaphor) terms on the topic, on the Senate floor, I'm sure others would join.

Not that it would make any difference. It wouldn't. Nothing will. Including Cruz in Oval Office (I mean, a difference in the essential lawlessness we've reached WRT the judiciary).

Maybe if the GOP didn't stab Americans in the back EVERY chance they get, they might still be trustworthy. With social media proclaiming all their dirty dealings, how did they think we wouldn't catch on?

I really loathe Trump for dropping the birth certificate issue right when Obama released an obvious HOAX, supporting Kelo, attacking the 1st Amend by attacking Pamela Geller (blaming the victim AND saying Muzzies shouldn't be insulted), etc (plus, I truly think he's an agent of the left). There is no way in hell I could ever support him. He is this cycle's Herman Cain. CLUELESS. Actually, that's an insult to Cain (and I loathe him, too) since at least Cain hadn't filed for bankruptcy four times all the while claiming he was a genius money-making machine.

If voters want someone to buck the system, Cruz is the much better choice. Perry's my #1 and he's not Establishment so he should get traction. Hopefully, Trump sticks his foot in mouth soon before he ruins everything.

Kreplach, I think CBS reported it - the Roberts laughing while Scalia disemboweled the majority's infantile Soviet pronouncement, er, read his dissent.

Funny, Hewitt has some stupid fiction author on, dunno if he has even addressed the SCOTUS disaster today. He's probably the best example of a clueless judicial system hack on the air. Cannot step back one inch and behold how off-the-rails everything is. Completely stuck in "reverence" for the court and the system, etc.

I remember during oral arguments for the first O-care case, after cutting away from some audio in which every party speaking (both sides plus justices) were showboating their economic illiteracy and underlining why they had no business even discussing those issues, Hugh gushes that "wow, what you just heard was the highest-level judicial people at work, that was constitutional light-sabre stuff!" (wording approximate, but the "light-sabre stuff!" is precise).

One more piece of the puzzle. Mediocre elites who don't even understand the system they revere and thus go along like sheep as degradation erodes everything.

What if the invasion from Central America is not only to swell the rolls of liberal voters but to also provide a cadre of young men who will be willing to participate in the round up of those who find themselves afoul of the law by speech or possession of contraband?

Some Police departments are allowing those from Central America to become "law officers" without back ground check and barely literate.

Our hopes of being joined by our fellow citizen troops and LE will be diminished by the influx of large amounts of ignorant and apathetic functionaries and turnkeys.

344 Over at Instapundit one of the guest bloggers linked to the Wall Street Journal where they are talking about the Confederate flag thing as a preference cascade. I think that is an interesting take. I mean I personally don't like yet another instance of SJW bullying but I really don't give a shit about the flag itself. It is sort of like restrictions on smokers. I don't like the bullying but I like not having to breath cigarette smoke.

Posted by: Obnoxious A-Hole at June 25, 2015 08:06 PM (QHgTq)

I was born and educated in Canada. From my perspective, the Confederate Flag, which is the flag that represented the Army of Northern Virginia, is just that. It originally represented something that was held in honor not only by the Confederates but also by the Union Army, because the latter knew that they fought with honor.

This flag was raised high when Democrats were in opposition to the Civil Rights Act. They adopted it to their own ends.

And now Republicans have to answer to it because the Dems' history is ignored as well as the fact that the Republican party was formed in opposition to slavery.

397 Is it doubted, then, that the plan I propose, if adopted, would shorten the war, and thus lessen its expenditure of money and of blood? Is it doubted that it would restore the national authority and national prosperity, and perpetuate both indefinitely? Is it doubted that we here--Congress and Executive--can secure its adoption? Will not the good people respond to a united, and earnest appeal from us? Can we, can they, by any other means, so certainly, or so speedily, assure these vital objects? We can succeed only by concert. It is not "can any of us imagine better?" but, "can we all do better?" The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.

Fellow-citizens, we cannot escape history. We of this Congress and this administration, will be remembered in spite of ourselves. No personal significance, or insignificance, can spare one or another of us. The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation. We say we are for the Union. The world will not forget that we say this. We know how to save the Union. The world knows we do know how to save it. We -- even we here -- hold the power, and bear the responsibility. In giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free -- honorable alike in what we give, and what we preserve. We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth. Other means may succeed; this could not fail. The way is plain, peaceful, generous, just -- a way which, if followed, the world will forever applaud, and God must forever bless.

guess who?

431 Dad was born and raised in Florida and was Southern. My Grandma was the quintessential Southern belle Christian woman. I don't really know much about Dad's side of the family because he never talked about it much, other than to let me know that his brother was a WWII carrier pilot in the Pacific. I really couldn't say whether Dad's family owned slaves or not. But he was a Southerner.
OTH, I do know that there were folks on my Mom's side of the family that fought for the Union side in the West, specifically in Missouri during that recent unpleasantness.
Interestingly, Dad's side of the family seemed to be less racist than Mom's side of the family who were all German Jews. Never could figure that out.
I need to go to Ancestry.com and track it down before it gets purged.

Lots of gloating, seizures and outright thievery protected by the Union army.

the Army also pushed forth lots of blacks for elective office and forced some other accommodations that the south wasn't psychologically prepared for.

this led to almost 150 years of stagnation, resentment and isolation.

We've paid the price for that as a Nation with the Blacks being at the forefront of abuse.

Former NAACP President Vocally Defends Confederate Flag.

Hours after "Black Lives Matter" was spray-painted on a Confederate monument in Asheville, North Carolina, H.K. Edgerton stood with a Confederate flag, telling those passing by why he wanted it to continue to fly.

Edgerton, a former president of the North Carolina NAACP and one of few African-American members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, was outside the monument waving the Confederate flag soon after the graffiti was removed.

He said the graffiti artist protested incorrectly.
"I'm not going to blame it on a Yankee, because I've seen some southern folk around here that are real questionable too, that don't know anything about who they are and their families and the honorable people in the southland of America...red, yellow, black, white and brown!" Edgerton said.

The world is undiscovered.
Take plant families, for example.
Literally, pick one.
Preferably, one that has several local native representatives. Ultimately, plants, sessile ones anyway, are easier to locate than Angels.
Start with pollination, i.e., blossoms. The energetics to produce and display the pollen to the vector? Volume of pollen vs. reasonable likelihood of vector presence in a non-12th Imam Environment? All the expected plant variables. Sun output. Solar-driven weather annual systems. Free water in winter? Hey, not every tree is Norwegian, despite the fact that some were able to become spars for SEA DRAGONS, BITCHEZ!

Since the Rule of Law is dead, since it's clear those in power have no fellow feeling for their fellow citizens, since it's clear those in power see it only as a grift to gain power and money and don't take our American Heritage seriously at all-

let's elect Trump as President.

But, no - instead let's horrify them, let's work to elect the loose cannon/loudmouth who owes them no allegiance.

Trump's election.

For years North Carolina delayed construction of I-95 so that people driving from New York or New Jersey to Florida would drive on local roads and eat at the local restaurants and buy fireworks which were illegal in their home states.

When the Feds threatened to cut off highway funds to Wyoming if they did not enforce the 55 MPH speed limit, their response was, "Go ahead. We'll just stop plowing snow on I-80. That road is really just for out of staters passing through Wyoming, anyway." That threat is probably not going to work that well in the places where the Confederate flag is popular.

Good backups and plenty of them.

I had major pain a few months back, went to our family doctor who sent me to the emergency room.
I was doubled over in pain. When I broke my elbow in 2 places in South Korea, I taught 12 hours the next day with no painkillers, so I think my pain tolerance is pretty high.
In the emergency room, Canadian emergency room, the ER doctor put me on morphine. Even in as much pain as I was in, I was pretty shocked to be getting morphine. In the back of my mind, that right there tipped me off that something must be up.

They took out my appendix a few hours later and I left the hospital 36 hours later. There are a lot of great people in the Canadian medical system, I just wish the system were different. But I got great care when they thought my appendix burst and they didn't cheap out on the morphine.

613 Everything Is Meaningless
1 The words of the Teacher,[a] son of David, king in Jerusalem:

2 "Meaningless! Meaningless!"
says the Teacher.
"Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless."
3 What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.
8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
"Look! This is something new"?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow them.

I was talking to a knowledgeable man recently who told me that antivirus programs, even the best, only catch about 1/2 of what is out there -- which means that using three in a row will only catch 7/8. Which is why IT departments regularly just reimage users' disks. You can do the same thing on your system using virtualization -- every time you want to run a browser, you instance a brand-new virtual machine for it. Every time one gets infected, you start afresh.

If you find out anything, please pop it onto the ONT. I'm sporadic in other comment sections.

There was recently a scare where vbox code for simulating floppy drives could be overstimulated (since there was no actual floppy drive to spin up or spin down) and malware could jump out of vbox machines -- but I think that's patched now.

I can't figure out what he thinks his legacy will be.

His court, with his aid, just set a Precedent that the WRITTEN law means nothing. That it is the interpreted intention of the law, as interpreted by the Court, which is the important thing... not what the law actually says.

The ramifications of that are staggering... as now Judges can interpret what they think a Law is supposed to do... vice what it says.

Why so many people (actually, ANY people) resort to B-movie conspiracy "explanations" (Irish adopted kids!) for Roberts' behavior completely baffles me. For that matter, for the performance of McConnell, Boehner, whoever.

While outrageous and surprising, there is nothing hard to understand here. In Roberts' case, he clearly is simply enjoying being sort of a King, and ruling (his two big O-care decisions are almost comically arbitrary and unhinged from anything real or precedential - he even left the three statist/cretins bewildered and just standing there nodding in confusion, esp. in his first disastrous O-care legislation).

He has a pretty bizarre and unsophisticated view of the court's role - hell, of the role of govt. in general under our constitution. All this "prestige of the court" nonsense, which is idiotic in itself and completely outside his concerns or competence, rather dramatically demonstrates what a freak he is.

Ironically, just a few years back he was fairly normal, and chafing and rebelling at Kennedy's arbitrary, arrogant, unhinged behavior (Hamdan v Bush, where Roberts used language not seen since the Civil War period in a dissent correctly denouncing the ludicrous bait-and-switch bad faith rulings). Turns out the real damage Kennedy and the statist cretins have been doing is as nothing next to the virtual extinction event he has now authored for the court's prestige, credibility, and moral authority.

Careful kids. There do exist bad things that can corrupt hypervisors and HAL (hardware abstraction layers). The little sandboxes are for playing Minesweeper or running Project or Visio (which no *nix type seems to want to replace); not messing with the darkside. Additionally there are certain nasties that might be going after the firmware on your NIC, USB Roothub, and GPU ignoring the whole virtual environment.

You wanna play -- an older machine (no GPU, no built in WiFi), boot from an image on actual read-only media, use a separate network connection (use you cell as a modem) as required. If you need a drive - use an external one so you can trash it. I use one of those multi headed drive adapters and whatever el-cheapo drive I pick up at the repair counter.

I think that if you could beat the latency issue on older hardware, you could put something together that could meet a massive need and could be very saleable.

I left Windows mostly due to high cost of virus scanning and subscriptions. And as Mr. 928 said above, it took downloading Malwarebytes toolkit to eliminate a massive problem that the high dollar-ware missed completely.

Gotta go do a late-ish steak on the grill, but I think ScoggDog was being sarcastic, MWNP. Even if he wasn't, the "point" he made occurred to me immediately when reading about SCOTUS' latest atrocity.

What will be taught, what will litigants strategize for in future cases? Twice now, in both O-care cases, Roberts (almost literally alone) has simply made shit up and injected chaos into both federal tax law and now the entire area of statutory interpretation.

In both cases, it wasn't a close call. This second case was, of course, ridiculous - the govt. had no serious case at all, nothing. They were literally pretending the entire language and structure and logic of a law did not mean what it meant, even though it was perfectly coherent and complete on the question at issue, and the structure exactly duplicated the routine one for federal laws using federal $$$ as an incentive for states to participate.

Anyway, I wish Cruz, who has the expertise, would expand on this, repeatedly and at length. Don't confuse me with someone who thinks the various genies released by the degradation of the civic culture and national institutions can be re-injected in their various bottles, at this point. But just to entertain the few thinking Americans apparently still around, Cruz should lay out and dissect the part of the collapse of the constitutional system represented by today's judicial branch.

741 I don't know that 1996 was a business-as-usual time either. I always saw Dole as a slap in the face to the reform-minded wave of 1994. "We don't care if we lose. You will not win."

But for all that, Clinton could not manage a majority against Dole, despite how little wind Perot managed to suck from the race his second time around (or third, depending on how many times you count in 1992).

It was moot, the GOPe had already said they would patch it. The undermining of the value of the written word is a far greater issue. SCOTUScare is going to drag on until the insurance companies beg for mercy, our only hope is that they are on their knees before Perry and not Bernie.

Do have to say I hate these fuckers with a white hot fury.

Simply because we're Americans, and as such are denied the option of failure.

746 Roberts bought into a self delusion that he has a brilliant legal mind, this I blame on Bush for making him CJ. After a few years on SCOTUS he came to realize he isn't fit to wash Scalia and Thomas's underwear, but being the arrogant prick that he is he tries to pretend he's smarter then anyone else by finding all these imaginary legal justifications that nobody ever found before. He's a fraud and deep down he knows it.
This is a problem with all this countries ruling class.

The downside is root and boot sector virii. They have icky nasties that go straight to the BIOS now.

I thought those were simulated in Vbox (the boot sector on virtual
disks and the BIOS on the virtual machine). Does that apply whether or
not you're running para or 64-bit?

Careful kids. There do exist bad things that can corrupt
hypervisors and HAL (hardware abstraction layers). The little sandboxes
are for playing Minesweeper or running Project or Visio (which no *nix
type seems to want to replace); not messing with the darkside.
Additionally there are certain nasties that might be going after the
firmware on your NIC, USB Roothub, and GPU ignoring the whole virtual
environment.

You wanna play -- an older machine (no GPU, no built in WiFi), boot
from an image on actual read-only media, use a separate network
connection (use you cell as a modem) as required. If you need a drive -
use an external one so you can trash it. I use one of those multi
headed drive adapters and whatever el-cheapo drive I pick up at the
repair counter.

I'm looking to salvage metric fucktons of data off "presumed compromised" disks. My intended plan is to (a) get a distro that doesn't automount (or shut it down), (b) create a virtual disk, (c) mount the disk as read-only, (d) copy data (no programs) to virtual disk, (e) store virtual disks in "bad" directory, (f) DoD-level shred the hard disk, (g) use it in a RAID5 appliance.

Once I have a bunch of bad virtual disks, assemble the files by type on the new RAID5 appliance, preferably with some verification that the *.docs are docs, the *.pdfs are pdfs, etc.

The government has the NSA, the FBI, and any number of other agencies. You really think they couldn't do it if they wanted to?

Or you can spend the rest of your life in pound-me-in-the-ass prison. Your choice."

The beauty of this approach is that the victims need not have any actual skeletons in their closets. They could be as pure as the driven snow, and it wouldn't matter.

Does anybody seriously believe that the Communists would hesitate to do that?

The Other Four always, no matter what vote straight ticket democrat without so much as a FYTW. Yet the right leaning side of the court is supposed to be "compromising" in their rulings. 1. You can send this out and have someone do it for you. But, I suspect you're a cheap bastard like me and won't do it. Check with your business insurance co, they might pay for it.

2. Otherwise:
(a) OK, but it would be better to boot from read-only media.
(b) OK
(c) OK
(d) conceptually easy - how are you going to sort data from all the other shit. This is the hard part.
(e) I hope you mean on a manually mounted new media
(f) OK, if you have a lot of disks you can setup a single purpose machine to do this. The stripped down OS that just mounts and rapes the disks seven times should be floating out there.
(g) By the time your done with step (d), new disks will cost so much less then your time. Sell the old ones and buy new ones.

I would give up on trying to use the documents in their original form. Its essentially impossible to ensure every doc or xls is clean. There exist programs for lawyers that convert all the data files to indexable pdfs for use during discovery. After step (e), take all your data, "print" it to pdf, then index for search. Raw databases without blobs could be archived as delimited text, validated, and then imported into a new environment. Binary data should never touch a clean system again. If there is a lot of valuable stuff - I guess you could write a program to convert its file format. But, if it can't do that, eg. the production files for a video, you're screwed.

True.

But ALSO realize that being a conservative in dire times mean more than
wearing a Ted Koppel combover and well-tailored suits and shouting bombastic crazy talk at Hannity.

Realize the sickness has TWO halves to it:

1. Clueless grassroots conservative voters who lack discernment and fawn over the latest populist 'conservative' who has ZERO track record and talks smack for rating and popularity.
Flavor of the month conservative changes, one months its Huckabee the Huckster, then Carson, then Trump, then...

but let's be clear, the non-conservative Trump is truly the bottom of that barrel.

2. Clueless Republican leadership scared of its own shadow and the liberal media, willing to lie to the conservatives before elections and then try to wing it after the elections because - ooooh - governing like a REAL conservative is HARD WORK. You have to say NO to all the special interests.
