People wonder why I say this country cannot be turned around. Its not that there are no good people or potentially great candidates. Its that they're too much in the minority. And that's because a democracy gets the government that reflects its culture and social identity. Until that culture changes, until the virtue of the republic is recovered, things will only head in one inevitable direction.
Only a spectacular act of God or ruin will change this trajectory.

The GOP is to be judged by its actions - not its fundraising appeals. the GOP does not stand for smaller gov't, reducing the size of gov't, reducing spending, repealing Obamacare, deregulation, strong borders, or any other thing that Conservatives believe in.
Voting for the GOP is voting for the DNC. If you vote GOP, you are a leftist. Period.
Don't tell me how we need to vote GOP to save SCOTUS. SCOTUS a) won't "save us" and b) doesn't vote conservative most of the time anyway, even with alleged conservatives on the Court.
The only way to achieve any conservative result is to destroy the GOP and build it back up again. The GOP will not move right if you vote for it despite its leftist actions. If you believe it will - that you are "doing something" because you vote for a "conservative" candidate in this or that primary - you are an idiot. You are the GOP's wet dream - someone they can keep selling the same bridge to over and over and over again.
All conservatives should refuse to vote GOP until the GOP gets rid of its entire current leadership (including Boehner, McConnel, everyone at National GOP, all "consultants", all aides in the house and senate - everyone remotely connected to the current incarnation of GOP leadership in any way) and starts to take action in furtherance of conservative goals. Otherwise, you are voting for the GOP to pursue the same exact policy as the DNC.

It certainly doesn't help. Even if Roberts were to vote correctly 100% from hereon - you are kind of defined by your big case. You write Koramatsu - no matter what else you do - you have done great disservice to the Constitution.
Miers likely could have been worse. Alito replaced her. But Miers for Roberts - sure I'd make that trade.

Stupid. Giving up on the GOP is not "giving up" on conservatism. It is fools like you who believe we can "change" the GOP by electing one guy, or even a few guys every cycle - that empower the GOP to continue doing what it has always done.
The only way to get the GOP to change is to force it to change. The only way to force it to change is to take away its votes until it does change. Everyone arguing otherwise is simply supporting the status quo.
Your friend Flynn may be a great guy. He may even stay committed to conservatism once elected (I doubt it - experience tells us that principles only remain in less than 1% of elected "conservative" candidates once they are seated). But he is not going to change a thing. Just like Cruz didn't, or DeMint, or Santorum, or any other conservative that got elected in the last 30+ years changed nothing. Hell, even Reagan did not really change anything in the GOP.
Pretending that we must "hope" for the GOP and that if we fail to support the GOP we are "despairing" or "giving up" or "being childish" is nonsense. The only strategic way to change the GOP is to starve it of our votes. the GOP can then decide to either go full fledged and honest after the left vote, competing with the DNC as to who can be the most leftist - or it can move rightward in an effort to win elections.
Any other plan is silly nonsense. It is pissing in the wind.

The Roberts children are adopted. The kids are from Ireland.
It was facially illegal under Irish law for the Robertses to travel to Ireland, and adopt the kids, and take the kids back to the States. So the Robertses paid the birth mothers to travel out of Ireland to a third country, and adopted there, and took the kids back to the States. That moved the transaction from "facially illegal" to "questionably legal".
You have to wonder if Roberts received a late night visit from some people who had some things to say regarding this bit of business.

A remedy for what the court is doing is an amendment to the Constitution that allows SCOTUS cases to be overturned by a majority of the States. Remember, we are in control of a huge number of State legislatures so this ruling would have been dead in the water.
All fears aside, this is the only Constitutional option we have left.

The super-rich who bankroll Democrats are safe - this will be aimed squarely at the middle-class who have fled the cities for more space and safer communities. It will make the suburban and rural* communities for most of us unsafe while the coastal people who live in the really pricey neighborhoods will be fine - they can buy up enough land to separate themselves from the riff-raff.
*They're flooding rural small towns with "new Americans", not just sending them to big cities - this will have a disproportionate impact on those communities.

That being said, there is no fukking way it is not going to implode due to the huge deductibles, co-pays and/or premiums coupled with a scarcity in availability of actual health care rather than health insurance. The States who accepted it now face more and more Medicaid costs which will destroy the balance of their budgets.

I was actually pretty surprised by this one. We've gone fully through the looking glass on this one. When writing a law or a contract there usually is a definitions section. If the document says "State" it means State. If words have no meaning, and there is no limiting factor, why even write laws anymore?

I said it yesterday but, LiB has to include the courts--they are just as much a part of the State as Congress and the bureaucracy.
There is no part of the federal government that is legitimate any more but some still cling to the courts as the neutral referee--they are not.
And we are very much to the point where you cannot call yourself a conservative and an American but still give legitimacy to the courts.

The legislature didn't draft the law and few, if any of them, read the law. So it is impossible to know what the intent of the legislature was.
They relied on consultants, like Gruber to draft the law and we know what his intent was. It was to punish the state who didn't set up exchanges.

If people want the ACA repealed they are going to have to elect a president and a Congress who will, rather than relying on the Court to do their work for them.
Conservatives can bitch and moan, or they can organize and vote next year.
Frankly, this ruling denies Hillary the optics of "Defending Your Health Care" (tm) had subsidies gone down and various "solutions" been subsequently argued about in Congress for the next 18 months.
It's a horrible decision for a slew of reasons, but one of those reasons is NOT that it huts Republicans running next year, because it doesn't. It enhances their case and simplifies their ability to clearly oppose ACA without the distractions having to "solve" the lack of subsidies problem would present.

This ruling will set a new precedent for judges when making rulings.
This ruling will now make it easier for them to finish off the rule of law.

I don't know about the numbers, but the coverage is insane.
My dad's employer switched insurance companies, and nearly every doctor my parents use are out of network.
So, they either have to get a bunch of new doctors. Or go through this crazy process where they can get their insurance company to make an exception due to distance/whatever purposes, for every single doctor.

Even without the Court's finding of the State's intent, the current President would not be ineligible. The 22nd Amendment clearly states that no person "shall be elected" more than ten times. Because the President continued in office as a result of a general acclamation and not as the product of an election, the 22nd Amendment does not control.

Meh, big law doesn't exactly work that way. They let their conflicts departments figure out if different matters cause conflicts. They can either provide a means of setting up boundaries to protect clients, or they advise clients to take work to other firms. In some instances if the client provides lucrative work, an attorney take the client and go to another firm.

Legislators at various levels introduce measure after measure to infringe on Free Speech (such as climate change/same sex marriage). They are supported by the mob to shame people into silent compliance. Other issues come into play with their success.
Parents are no longer allowed to parent. Kids are taught dependence is good and that the State has ultimate authority. Teachers work to separate the parents' teachings from government endorsed teachings (common core/over protective Child protection services)
The borders are being reduced systematically.
You have no privacy. Your info (read, YOU) may be bought and sold as a commodity. The State routinely ignores its own privacy laws, and creates new programs to circumvent it (Healthcare IT part of the ACA, the government will store all health care records digitally).
The people who collect your taxes are also intimately tied to your healthcare.
The organization that manage communications is trying to silence you by taking more control of your access internet, and your ability to use it as a platform to speak. They have been slowed, but not halted.
Clauses of articles and various amendments are being rendered irrelevant.
Yes we live in interesting times, indeed.

Look around your local area. Join clubs likely to have like minded people. Gun clubs, hunting clubs. Learn martial arts, learn how to make things you might need. Stock up on books about useful skills, plumbing, electricity, gardening, wilderness medicine. I am not kidding. Teach your wife and kids how to shoot if they don't know already. Lighten up your possessions. All that shi* in the basement isn't doing you any good, sell it on ebay you won't be able to pack it when you have to move quickly later. Buy durable goods that are tradeable and lightweight ie guns, ammo, medicine. If you take medicine see if you can get several months supply.
If you are gonna have kids, well, learn to pray if you don't already.

Once insuring everyone, regardless of pre-existing condition, inevitably bends the cost curve up (which it must, of course -- imagine what your car insurance would cost if the insurance company wasn't allowed to ask you how many tickets or accidents you've had), and once they get rid of all grandfathered "transitional" plans and force them into ACA-compliant plans (which they're scheduled to do in 2016, but they'll delay it a year, after the elections), the shit will hit the fan and the whole thing will collapse.
But then what? They will have driven the cost of medical care even higher than it is now; they will have driven independent GPs out of practice and into retirement, so supply will be diminished. At that point, I'd guess we'll all gladly embrace single-payer.
Which was the plan all along.

Another nail in the coffin of the "Supreme Court appointees matter so TeamGOP" argument.
Article V Supporters: SCOTUS and all lower judges need to be term-limited and forever barred from acting as mediators, arbitrators, lobbyists or otherwise having even the appearance of impropriety/bias/conflicting interests after they've served as a judge. Judge needs to be a career capper or a career track in and of itself - no switching hats to get the private gravy which prospects might further enhance your existing political or other biases. Accountability must be introduced into the judicial decision-making process, with parties having standing to bring suit or otherwise to scrutinize the judge's potential conflicts of interest, their contacts and communications during the decision making process, and to enforce discipline - by a jury, not a peer/Congressional vote - on judges who cross the line of impropriety in that process (Judge Walker's refusal to recuse himself in the CA Prop 8 case comes to mind).
An independent judiciary is an unaccountable judiciary, and with the rabid politicization and overreach into areas 19th century judges feared to tread, the risk/reward ratio of judicial accountability has shifted since John Adams advocated for our present lifetime appointed Star Chamber system. If they won't self-police, we need to police them.
The guys already kowtow to "public opinion" (as expressed by the media and their 20+% prog base, not the actual public), so all "independence" is doing is letting them grease the slippery slopes for the progs without accountability.

For SCOTUS and lower judges alike, this is the present "balance" : lifetime tenure, no electoral accountability and almost no oversight, and the ability to essentially write legislation from the bench and make orders which will almost certainly be implemented by executive authority.
This needs to change. In the first 100+ years, judges voluntarily limited their activities, mitigating these concerns. Not so much in the era of "active, progressive, take-charge" government.

That will take longer, with less results, than a third party. Our future conservative and libertarian leaders will either be corrupted and co-opted in the GOP or our resources will be spent for false-flag candidates (see Paul Ryan, Ayotte, etc...).
Better a third party to gauge our real strength in numbers or lack thereof, with better message integrity, discipline and branding, wielding power as a pivot point like minor parties do in parliamentary systems.
From what I've seen of some GOPers like Flynn, Amash, Gomert and a few others, I'd welcome them. I'm taking an "if we build it they will come" approach to existing pols, but I think we'll find our best leaders in building the party, ground up.

My question. Why bother writing 800+ page laws?
SCOTUS has ruled it is the Judiciary's job to figure out how to make a law actually work; and to change it as needed.
The legislature should simply write 3-4 sentences outlining the goals; and have the Judiciary make the actual specific details and change those as needed.
That's what the SCOTUS just ruled is the proper method; why is the Legislature still trying to write 800+ page laws?
Paragraphs written on a cocktail napkin; that's all the legislature should be doing. Everything else is the province of the Judiciary. Right?

How this man sleeps at night is a complete mystery to me. Roberts, perhaps more than anyone else, was the one man that had the power to keep us from going utterly over the cliff. Instead, he has enthusiastically embraced Obama's agenda. The democrats must have some serious dirt on Roberts - that or he really is just evil to the core.
