Terrible: New Maryland Governor Larry Hogan Has "Advanced," "Aggressive" Cancer

This disease must be eradicated.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan disclosed Monday that he has been diagnosed with late stage 3 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which he described as "a very advanced and very aggressive" form of cancer.

The 59-year-old Republican, who was sworn into office in January after winning an upset victory over then-Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D), described the diagnosis as a hurdle he was determined to surmount.

"I'm going to face this challenge with the same energy and determination that I've relied on to climb every hill and to overcome every obstacle that I’ve faced in my life," he said, with his wife, Yumi, standing by his side.

The survival rate for non-Hodgkins lymphoma is relatively high. Physician Kevin Cullen, director of the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, said about 70 percent of patients with the disease are still alive after five years.

Cullen said most cases of non-Hodgkins lymphoma are discovered at stage 3, when the tumors are more pronounced, just as Hogan’s was.

"This is really what we see for the vast majority of patients," he said.

The disease is usually treated by chemotherapy, not surgery or radiotherapy. The Lieutenant governor (also a Republican) will do a lot of work while Governor Hogan is in therapy.

Prayers.

He has an incredible attitude even through chemo which really kicked his ass. He's back at work now and has showed the rest of us through his example how to fight even though his disease will take him.

I realize that doctors have to give some type of 'time limit' but these are just guesses as to the average progression of a particular disease.

38 I have a good friend with stage 4, doctors have differing ideas on the best way to treat it. If you know someone with this disease do some research and find doctors who specialize in it. It is common enough to have specialists. Many live long enough to die from something else. The treatments are getting genetically specific.

There's a national registry for this. They send you a cheek swab, you send it back with your DNA, and if in future you turn out to be a compatible donor for someone in need, they will get in contact with you.

106 An offensive lineman for the Houston Texans, David Quessenberry, was diagnosed with the same lymphoma in a late stage last year. He was able to send it into regression until it was gone within a year, and he is now on preventative chemo.

Fuck cancer, toss a few bills on the dresser, and leave cancer crying softly in its pillow.

Prayers for the Gov, for you VIA, and Mr. Spypeach.

--I'm a Chiefs fan and I'm hoping Eric Berry, their Pro Bowl safety, can beat his leukemia and return to the field, although to him of course the latter would just be gravy after making it to the former.

112 Ovomit's going to Charleston tomorrow to the funeral. He's going to try and stir up shit.

His puppetmaster Soros wants the streets to run red with blood.

Just kidding. Fuck cancer!

114 Even the "cure" is going to suck. And, no, "what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger" doesn't apply. It will weaken you and it will also suck.

Same as a heart attack and stroke, as in my case.

Wander back a thread and risk being banned?

Nah.

Supper time.

I read the post while coming back from Udvar-Hazy Center, but the browser tends to crash on the comments pages. I'll just steer clear of it rather than risk ruining an otherwise pleasant day. Final night here in Arlington; thinking about grabbing a bison burger for dinner.

Isn't there a golf course in the state he could be attending instead? He'd be a much better leader there away from any people.

121 Honestly, You Guys, can we stop blaming it's culture for it's wanting to kill people? Can we at least try to understand the impact that the massive oppression that Human Beings *spit* have massively inflicted on cancers and other non-humanoid celled beings? Think of the scars that these "humans" like Curie, Salk, and countless others have inflicted through their Crusade against Cancer????

Kum ba yahhhhh, Lawd, Kum-ba-Yahhhhhhhhh....

Yes! Aside from the MoMe, it was the highlight of my trip. I'm very glad some Morons pointed that place out.

129 I just completed treatment for Stage 3 non-Hodgkins diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and continued to work full-time except for days I had chemo. I did chemo treatments on Friday and recuperated on the weekends. After the 4th round of chemo my follow-up PET scan came back and the cancer is gone. They have the treatment for this cancer dialed in and they can eradicate it in most cases. The R-CHOP chemo melts the tumors. It's not as bad as it sounds.
