Like many Conservatives, I grew up listening to AM talk radio. Before the advent of the Internet and Fox News it was the only outlet available to hear political views that weren’t first fed through a politically correct, Leftist filter. Rush Limbaugh was the standard bearer of talk radio. His insights into the politics of the Right and the Left were unequaled. His show was broadcast on hundreds of stations across the country. Others tried to follow his syndication model and broadcast nationally, a few succeeded while most remained local and served only their home markets. The difference in scope between the national and the local shows was pronounced. The syndicated hosts covered national politics while the local hosts were more provincial, focusing on statewide issues.

Boston radio talk show host Howie Carr was different. His local show had the sound and feel of a nationally syndicated talk show. Since 1994, Carr, a bestselling author and columnist for the Boston Herald has used keen political insight, historical perspective, and humor to mock the “rumpswabs, hacks, and moonbats” of the Left. Show guests have included such diverse personalities as original Beatles drummer Pete Best, Bill Cosby, Ann Coulter, as well as most GOP candidates for president including Donald Trump. Carr is also a contributing writer for Breitbart.com and a guest host for both Mark Levin and Dennis Miller.

Like Ace of Spades HQ, Carr utilizes an entertaining mix of both politics and humor. 6 My favorite moments of his is when he suddenly launches into a story from his near-encyclopedic knowledge of corruption in Massachusetts' worlds of organized crime or local politics (but I repeat myself). A caller might mention a specific neighborhood, and bam - out comes a story about the time Stephen Flemmi shot Eddie Connors to death in a nearby phonebooth. Or mention any MA Speaker of the House and be rewarded with a seedy tale, as the last... three(?) consecutive speakers have all been indicted on corruption charges. A local gem.

Howie left, he wasn't dumped. WRKO took him to court over a 'right of first refusal' clause, or some such. He had to stay on at WRKO for 7(?) years after that. I believe that is why he kept referring to his colleague as Felon Finneran, to annoy management.

The only people who refer to what is happening as WRKO "dumping" Rush is Media Matters.

It's true Rush is leaving RKO, but it's because the syndicator that has a half billion dollar deal with Rush wanted to use his show to boost a small station that they own in Boston.

That way, the station that they own will quickly grow to be the largest in the market and they will make butt loads of money.

It's just business.

That's probably Col. David Hunt (frequent guest on the show). He couldn't vote for McLame because The Cuda was too stupid to be on the ticket, but then can't square support for a ticket with Plugs on it. His judgment is usually questionable at best.

Our local station would probably fail without Rush. Already 75% of their ads are PSAs. Inane insipid PSAs. If at all possible i try to pull in a more distant station (Atlanta) so I don't have to hear the same stupid PSAs over and over again.

The first International Day of Yoga has sparked a race row in India, with some Muslims accusing the government of pushing a Hindu agenda. They have also claimed that practising yoga flies in the face of Islamic teaching.

The day is being celebrated around the world: in New York's Times Square, 30,000 people are set to take part in a mass yoga session, while in Paris, thousands of French yoga fans dressed in white and sat on yellow mats under the Eiffel Tower.

But Kamal Farooqui, a member of the Muslim Personal Law Board in India has accused Mr Modi's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of pushing a Hindu agenda. "Yoga is not the only form of exercise, there are other forms of exercise too," he added.

According to the BBC, some Muslims hold that yoga is a religious practice, and that by chanting "Om" or performing the Sun Salutation, practitioners are essentially transgressing the monotheism that Islam preaches.

In response, a member of Parliament belonging to the BJP has said "those opposing yoga should either leave the country or drown themselves in the ocean."

32 Howie is a legendary columnist who is not a natural radio guy. He stutters, for one thing. But he is fearless in the face of the mob and crooked pols. There's more than a few people who wanted him dead. I used to read his columns about the Winter Hill gang and wonder how he was still alive. Not to mention the powers that be on Beacon Hill, crooked Feds and others who went down because he wouldn't let up. He had and deserves my undying respect. The man is fearless, pure and simple. I still have a column of his clipped and saved about what the City of Lynn should renamed (this was following a mild controversy after the snooty town of Manchester renamed itself "Manchester by the Sea".) Hilarious!

The local radio stations have 5 minutes of ad time to sell out of the 20 minutes available each hour. The revenue of those 5 minutes pays for the show, pays the operating expenses and makes a profit for the station.

10 minutes of the advertising time belongs to Premier Networks. From this time, they paid 100 million to Rush upfront and 37.5 million a year on a 8 year contract.

The remaining 5 minutes belongs to Rush, who sells this time to advertisers at the highest cost in radio, while talking about these advertisers in special, more personal ways.

That's a lot of money.

I thought it interesting we are nearing levels of Republican state dominance not seen since before FDR. FDR happened because the fiat money people took their ball and went home after they could no longer win elections. The great depression was punishment for rejection of progressive liberalism. They are going to do it again. It's set up just like when the roaring 20's became the starving 30's.

Of course that'll lead to violence and despair making gun confiscation politically possible just like it did in the 30's.

The closest I saw in the article was: "It makes me think of ... people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn't it?" he said to applause.

My own view of religious "leaders" like the pope is that they don't read the Bible to put its principles into practice, but to use it as a weapon against as many people as they can.

I would consider a gun manufacturer's profession of faith (should there be one) to be more genuine than someone like the pope's. The gun manufacturer makes an object (weapon) but leaves it to others to determine its use. Whereas the pope (and his ilk) actually use objects (originally meant for salvation and enlightenment) as weapons against people to further their own interests.

I'm sure many won't like this, but hey, there it is.
