At State, Hillary's Lieutenants Quashed Investigations Into Diplomats' Serious Overseas Sexual Misconduct
Consider what a security threat a diplomat known to be having sex with local prostitutes is. Consider what a huge diplomatic row would follow if it were shown that a US official was diddling kids in a foreign country.
But then, consider the fact that Hillary has a long history of covering up for sexually needy men, in order to maintain her image. Andrew Stiles reports:The Washington Examiner has followed up on a previous report exposing the Clinton State Department’s efforts to cover up alleged misconduct with new details about some of the "most egregious" examples of investigations thwarted by agency staff, and the frustration felt by investigators:Patrick Kennedy, Hillary's right hand (Cheryl Mills is her left), told the IG that he'd shut down the investigation because it's not a crime to solicit prostitutes in Belgium. It is unclear what Kennedy believes Belgium's position on Sex With Children is. Stiles concludes his piece by noting that Hillary Clinton has past experience with defending child rapists. These allegations have been reported for a long time -- but for some strange reason, not by the "mainstream" media.A top official in the bureau of diplomatic security "reportedly told [an investigator] to shut down the four investigations" into the accused security guards, three of whom received one-day suspensions before being transferred to other assignments. ... Perhaps the most egregious of the episodes involved "an ambassador in Belgium" who in May 2011 was accused of "ditch[ing] his protective security detail in order to solicit sexual favors from both prostitutes and minor children," according to an inspector general's memo. A subsequent review found a number of flaws in the subsequent probe of the Belgian ambassador.
The eight cases mentioned in the memo included an incident in which at least five members of Clinton's security detail allegedly solicited prostitutes in a number of countries while on official travel, including on trips to Russia and Colombia. A diplomatic security guard was permitted to continue overseeing Clinton's security operations at a Moscow hotel after allegedly soliciting prostitutes "despite obvious counterintelligence questions," the memo said.

Someone above had it right. Scandal among DS types (not politicals) was the problem.
There's a much larger issue - beyond the Belgium ambassador. The outrageous misbehavior in some missions, by senior officials (up to chief of mission, i.e. ambassador) has got to be a systematic problem, based on my direct and solidly-sourced hearsay information.
Near-East bureau (Middle East) and African bureau seem to be the worst. There have been a rotating set of incredibly reckless and unfit people (career, foreign service, not politicals) in several missions in those regions.
State - aside from its deeper pathology of pathetic, NPR/Beltway idiocy on a substantive level, among the vast majority of people - has some weird and distinctive personnel issues. I attribute it to the structure of the business. Vastly scattered, sometimes difficult, network of offices (embassies), lack of systems to constrain the worst personnel disasters once they have achieved some status (and DCMs and COMs are hard to touch).

Jay, the "tough" assignments are typically handled by career types. Of course within that category there are more/less desirable posts (depending on one's interests, tastes, background, etc.).
There was one recent notable exception, Zalmay Khalilzad in Baghdad, but he is a very experienced senior official-type. So a "political" not career appointment, but a very seasoned one with lots of comparable experience at that highest level (whatever the judgement is on his tenure in Iraq ends up being).

Leaving only the Latin name, petitio principii. Hopeless cause, though. JackStraw, we can compare house finch notes. Our nest is rather inconveniently located right near the main rear door, meaning lots of gymnastics to avoid going near it/disturbing the birds while doing all the outdoor activities, gardening, etc.
Still eggs, no chicks yet, pretty sure we're at one week, sources say 14 days til they hatch, so another week til we hear the screaming. Wife's pretty excited about it. Had mourning doves build a nest right next to my office window, in a cycad (small primordial palm-like tree), two eggs, but they abandoned it after a week (apparently they're known for this).
