I've watched conservatives spend a lot of time today defending Rubio (and Cruz at other times), then I see an issue like this seem to be a litmus test.
I honestly don't know what the right answer is with respect to this "fast track" bill, but it is driving me a bit batty to see conservatives swing back and forth so much.
I'm not saying this in defense of Cruz (who blew this big time, imho) or Rubio (who is pretty darned low on my list already), but it seems to me when a vote like this becomes So Important, it gives an opening to guys like Jeb Bush, who have been out of office for several years, a huge opening... simply because he has not had to vote on anything (or sign anything) for so long.

Not really swinging around in my case. I have 2-3 candidates in mind and I'm just keeping track as the negative strikes land. None are perfect but some transgressions do seem worse to me than some others. Ted's had three clear, meaningful chances to say "Washington, stop this madness!" and he's fallen right in line with the Beltway. I don't understand it.
It takes him quite a way down in my book. Rubio voting for it doesn't surprise really at all.

The most disgusting thing of all was that the Mittbot 3000 did not even appear to have a protective subroutine to fight back against any of this stuff.
It was one of the biggest problems that voters had in connecting to Romney emotionally.
Voters think, not unreasonably, that if they want a leader who will reliably stand up for them, it's going to be a guy who first of all vocally and fiercely stands up for himself. An alpha male who takes no shit.
Romney was basically accused of being a callous killer by stuff like the Soptic ads. He should have immediately punched back as hard as possible. Called a press conference to specifically talk about that issue and no other, described it as fundamentally unfactual and dishonest, and called for it to be immediately withdrawn from the air. He did none of this.

I didn't intend to criticize people. I just sort of see this particular vote, which hadn't been on anyone's radar as an issue until recently, very confusing to gauge.
When you have Obama and McConnell on one side and Rand Paul and Harry Reid on the other, I am left assuming it's more shades of gray than black and white.
And, it does frustrate me that Cruz's vote for this seems to be hurting him more than Rubio's, unless I'm misreading peoples' reactions.
But I do think Cruz cocked this up. He didn't explain himself well at all. I assume that is somehow connected to Amanda Carpenter's departure.

The president doesn't need authorization, he already has it. This bill inverts the 'advise and consent' constitutional duty of the Senate. It changes it from approve with 2/3 vote, to veto with 2/3, and since it's is difficult to get 2/3 of the senate to agree on anything substantive, it gives Obama a blank check with the likely outcome being approval because not enough senators will agree to block it. Once he knows it's a lock, he can do anything as long as he can hold 1/3 plus one Senator.

Marx of course was the result of the failed Revolution of 1848, which was a more controlled and more honest version of the French Revolution. You all know the French Revolution, from school, it wasn't grounded in petit-borgeousie concerns of taxation, trade, and enfranchisement like the American one, oh no. (Thus all the smart people told me.) It began loftily promising Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, to France and all Europe. It of course ended with an aggressive imperial dictatorship conquering Europe, after killing anyone who could have resisted said dictator from gaining control. You'd think they'd learn to follow the working example, but no....After the Revolution of 1848 failed, its surviving enthusiasts for the most part emigrated to the USA, and the Republic benefited by their dedication to their new home. Especially all those hard-working and innovative German immigrants who loved liberty and filled nearly as many divisions across the Union in the Civil War as Lee had in his entire army. The stay-at-homes in Europe either knuckled under to the monarchies....or gave heed to Marx, who preached of the earthly paradise denied the farmers and workers of the world. Again, you'd think they had learned something.... All the various factions of the Marxist Left then got their chance in Europe when the old order crashed in the course of World War I, and they were such smart people they gave us World War II and the Cold War. Which somehow never turned out to be THEIR fault, as proclaimed the smart people.
So here we are again, 25 years since the Berlin Wall was torn down from both sides, and the Marxists still are ready to bring an unwanted and unnecessary revolution, deemed necessary by those smart people. We already had one, and it worked, but the smart people tell us over and over that petit-bourgeois concerns are no basis for a government built on Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, even if a frater wants to be a mater. They are determined to win this time, either by co-opting the Republic altogether, or by collapsing it in a final spate of spite.
