A Tsunami of Graft: Bill Clinton Heroically Raised Money for the Tsunami Vicitms, By First Securing a $500,000 Payment For his "Charity"

Motherf***ers.

There is a special place in hell for this clan of grifters.

Deborah Sontag reports:

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Petra Nemcova, a Czech model who survived the disaster by clinging to a palm tree, decided to pull out all the stops for the annual fund-raiser of her school-building charity, the Happy Hearts Fund.

She booked Cipriani 42nd Street, which greeted guests with Bellini cocktails on silver trays. She flew in Sheryl Crow with her band and crew for a 20-minute set. She special-ordered heart-shaped floral centerpieces, heart-shaped chocolate parfaits, heart-shaped tiramisł and, because orange is the charity's color, an orange carpet rather than a red one. She imported a Swiss auctioneer and handed out orange rulers to serve as auction paddles, playfully threatening to use hers to spank the highest bidder for an Ibiza vacation.

The gala cost $363,413. But the real splurge? Bill Clinton.

The former president of the United States agreed to accept a lifetime achievement award at the June 2014 event after Ms. Nemcova offered a $500,000 contribution to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. The donation, made late last year after the foundation sent the charity an invoice, amounted to almost a quarter of the evening's net proceeds -- enough to build 10 preschools in Indonesia.

Happy Hearts' former executive director believes the transaction was a "quid pro quo," which rerouted donations intended for a small charity with the concrete mission of rebuilding schools after natural disasters to a large foundation with a broader agenda and a budget 100 times bigger.

"The Clinton Foundation had rejected the Happy Hearts Fund invitation more than once, until there was a thinly veiled solicitation and then the offer of an honorarium," said the former executive director, Sue Veres Royal, who held that position at the time of the gala and was dismissed a few weeks later amid conflicts over the gala and other issues.

A longer digest at Business Insider-- which notes it is "extremely rare" for one charity to pay money to another so-called "charity."

It also notes the charity that was supposedly getting the benefit of Clinton's star power raised less money the year he got his "award" than it did the previous year.

Meanwhile, the New York Times' resident Goof Nicholas Kristof claimed that we shouldn't blame the Clintons for the "charity" greed -- we should blame the campaign finance system.

One problem with this absurdity. Okay, two problems. Obviously, this is the go-to spin whenever a Democrat is found to be dirty -- it's the fault of the system, not of the person.

But Jim Geraghty points out a a problem so glaringly obvious you may have missed it -- The Clinton "charity" is not about financing any campaigns, at least not admittedly, and if we ever discover this "charity" is in fact about financing Hillary Clinton's campaign, it will be a serious criminal breach demanding of serious jail time.

This "Charity" is about personal enrichment -- and what the fuck does that have to do with campaign finance?

Jen, you're just so darn cute. That's the conservative version of being part of something trendy. Once the cool wears off, the adrenaline dies down, then nothing.

I'm happy for the owners of the pizza shop, but they were the hot item at the moment. At the very same time, others were trying to raise money for the elderly florist who actually fought in court, and lost, yet *the moment* had passed and folks, including me, resorted to what amounted to begging to get her to just $80k.

200 Complete bull. You're equating the fact that charitable people, including conservatives only have finite resources and must practice charitable "triage", with the fact that these fraudsters used a charity as a front for bribery. That's despicable bullshit.

....

Try again. The comment to which I was responding was about how people need something special, like a Belini, to give to charity. For some, it's the thrill of being 'in' on something.

It was not about drawing parallels to the Clintons' behavior and the fact that you went there just shows that you're happy to be pissed off and lashing out, regardless of whether you're correct or not, and without regard for whom your anger is targeted.

But Hollywood will flock to any Dem that wins the nomination. You could run Biden or a box of Kleenex or Biden's box of Kleenex (used) on the D ticket and Hollywood would still go the the charity parties in Hollywood because GOP = evil.

It's entirely tribal identification at this point. Well, I suppose unless Hill went temporarily insane and said she was pro-life and against amnesty or something like that - something which would never happen.

253 notes it is "extremely rare" for one charity to pay money to another so-called "charity."

First thing that came to mind when reading the NYT piece. Wonder how often this has happened with other "charities" gifting money to the Clintons, and for what? The only legitimate thing I can think of is garnering more attention by having a living US President at the event. But then again that's assuming that "charities" are actually charities instead of slush funds for politically-connected millionaires the world over. So many ways the globalist elite can fuck everyone over; "charitable giving" is just another.

I remember the university I attended in Canada chose the Salvation Army over the Red Cross for donations to some natural disaster (forget which it was) even though some loud minority of students/faculty bitched about giving donations to a Christian charity. (because "bigots" or something obviously). The reason for choosing the Salvation Army was supposedly the Salvation Army distributes money to actual victims and the needy while a greater percentage of donations to the Red Cross end up going to fund its bureaucracy, six-figure salaried employees and I'm sure some swank real estate for corporate meetings and vacations.

Posted by: Jordan at May 29, 2015 04:58 PM (jsYc/)

254 Lots of charities like to try to put on the big show, if you've got the right schmoozers at the top you can get all or most of the pretty shiny stuff donated and you get some folks with deep pockets to show up and you pour a little bit of high-end whiskey in them and...whee, that thing I just bought in the auction's for $25K is gonna look great on the wall, ain't it hon?

Return on investment.

Hell, my daughter's public school's last fundraiser - they served pizza, and no alcohol - shook an astronomical sum out of parents' pockets, a few shots of Scotch and it'd have hit six figures.

This woman made a bad investment in Bill, that's all.

Hate to break it to you - a vast majorityof charities are scams. Many use the majorityof the money they raise...to raise money. Others waste 60 to 80% on overhead and travel.

Lots of environmental charities are scams, basically collecting money to pay themselves to do studies. Ever notice that United Way hires an enormous number of ex-football players? Also that their "charity" is to collect your money, then dole it out to the charities of their choice? taking a hefty cut of the money in the process? Think about it.This is just a retirement program for ex-football players. Has been for years.

This could stop, if the charities were required by law to limit overhead and fundraising expenses to say...30%
