Top Republican lawmakers and their aides are scrambling to find a last-minute deal to save sections of the Patriot Act which is speeding toward expiration at midnight Sunday after a series of Senate votes failed to resolve an impasse over the National Security Agency (NSA).

McConnell has already ordered senators back to Washington for a rare Sunday session, just hours before the Patriot Act deadline. Its unclear what they might be voting on.

Gosh -- I wonder if there will be another last minute narrow passage of a bill we haven't seen. That's always so exciting!

Magnum Ice Cream's new #BeTrueToYourPleasure campaign is less about highend, European ice cream bars and more about acknowledging ways that gender nonconforming people subvert our ideas about the gender binary.

In a series of brief interviews James, Blake, and Gregory, three genderqueer people, describe the events that led to the formation of their identities.

While the presence of LGB-identified people in mainstream advertising is on the rise, Magnums campaign is one of the few to actually feature trans and/or queer people of color.

We get major flood conditions in Houston about once every 15 years. It takes the perfect storm of a long drought then heavy enough rain to saturate the ground over a couple of weeks, then repeated toad stranglers to overflow the Bayou system. We used to get these more often, but the building of retention ponds to average out the load on the Bayous has really helped. To those outside of the Houston area - the fundamental cause of the flooding is that Houston is basically as flat as a sheet of paper, so the water flows off very slowly.

36 In 2013, USA Today, among many major news outlets to focus on the issue, published a special report on how global warming was exacerbating the supposedly historic drought in Texas and that "likely do more damage in the future." Well, that drought is amazingly now officially over less than two years later.

This, in a remotely logical world, would leave only two options: 1) Global Warming has been fixed; or 2) The report was a piece of garbage using a natural cycle to promote a political agenda. I asked the reporter via Twitter if she intended on retracting the piece now that the supposedly global warming-caused drought is over so incredibly quickly, but shockingly I got no response.

40 RE: Fixing the debates. Trump should not be allowed in a Republican debate. He isn't a Republican. As for limiting the field to the top 10 candidates by polling that really isn't a good solution either. First off early pollls only further name recognition, and that furthers who ever is deemed "next" and Party big shots.

My solution; eliminate so-called debates. They aren't really debates anyway. Have weekly question submitted to every candidate that has officially announced about a serious subject that effects the country as a whole. e.g.ways to improved the economy, illegal migration, etc. Limit the response to less than 500 words.

Then release the answers in your web site or discuss them in the news show panel discussions.

75 The swamp (wetlands) behind my shanty are already Federally Regulated because of the nesting, migratory, federally protected waterfowl that nest there every year. I wouldn't call them 'navigable' exactly, even though you can get a canoe or kayak down the water course, but you would have to portage over every roadway. You just can't fit a kayak through those teeny tiny culverts that carry the water under the road.

Perhaps the EPA could sue the DOT and demand the roadways be removed as they are obstructing the navigable waterways. I would enjoy taking my kayak down the waterway to the big water. Some of the people who live along the route might object to my traverse of their property so I'd better consult with an attorney before making the trek.

Assuming we win (HA!), I would love to see the 24/7 in-your-face role of the POTUS dramatically decreased. Nobody needs to see or hear from the bastard - whomever he might be - every damned day. A good Coolidge-like detachment would be wonderful, in my eyes.

And turn the VP slot back into the "bucket of warm piss" Cactus Jack Garner called it. The only thing the VP should do is wake up in the morning, ask if the POTUS is still alive, then go back to bed.

The goal is social chaos and discord. (Heating the forge.)

"Pray devoutly. Hammer stoutly. Remould it nearer the hearts desire."

The moral underpinnings of the American social order are under systematic attack from the left and those purporting to be on the right (McConnell, Boner, etc.) yet who act directly to benefit the left's goals.

117 Federal oversight of local police is a fricken scam. You know how it works. You are a beat cop out there doing your job, and after you make an arrest, days/weeks after, you get called in to a meeting to explain why you did what you did.

Then you have meetings where you are told what it is you should have done, what the new department policy is, and how to document what you do to follow the new policy.

So out on the street, you have a question about what it is you should be doing, so you call in for a supervisor. The supervisor shows up, and then he calls his supervisor, and the supervisor's supervisor calls the Federal Liaison Officer in Charge for an opinion that you won't get back for six months or a year.

So the beat cop lets the guy go with a stern warning to not repeat whatever it was he did. If you do arrest the guy, then six months later you get a performance review and the Feds tell you what it was you should have done, and what the penalty is for doing it wrong.
