The author might be engaged in some wishful thinking but he says the masses he attends in churches in Paris (not Notre Dame or the big touristy cathedrals, but churches which are not tourist attractions) are standing room only and the people in them are young, professionals with children.

The author chalks it up to several factors, including a reaffirmation of cultural identity by people who feel increasingly threatened by Islam.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it's because the frogs heard Americans are becoming less Christian. They like to do the opposite of whatever we do.

And the Islam thing. I used to travel to Paris on business at least once a year, and a LOT of Parisians are very unhappy and uncomfortable with the Islamic North African presence.

The lefty refused to believe me, because the frogs are just so progressive. I sent her an article.

Interesting historical note.

A few decades back, after the French national nuclear power program really started to pay off in earnest -- lowest electric bills for consumers and businesses in Europe, and plenty of surplus power to export to neighboring nations for cash -- some of France's scientific community said,

"Zut alors! Zee basic hydrocarbons can be synthesized in bulk if we can get ze nuclear electricity sufficiently cheap! Zis is an attainable goal! Ze French nation can become independent of imported fuels! Vive La France!"

At that point, Middle East oil and gas interests started quietly and lavishly funding the French antinuclear left.
