The post-ironic mockery of needlework (on the pillow) is very similar to Hillary's "gaffe" about not being "the kind of woman who stays at home and bakes cookies for her children."
it wasn't really a "gaffe" then - it reflected her real hatred of traditional values and loathing for the nuclear family -- and it's not a gaffe now. She hates everything that "average" people cherish. Posted by: zombie at May 26, 2015 02:31 PM (jBuUi) 16

re 12, if you're too lazy to go all linky: Washington Times:
A federal appeals court upheld an injunction against President Obama's new deportation in a ruling Tuesday that marks the second major legal setback for an administration that had insisted its actions were legal. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled in favor of Texas, which had sued to stop the amnesty, on all key points, finding that Mr. Obama's amnesty likely broke the law governing how big policies are to be written. "The public interest favors maintenance of the injunction," the judges wrote in the majority opinion. Posted by: mallfly at May 26, 2015 02:44 PM (qSIlh) 129

Yes. I've looked at several different breakdowns of those numbers since 2012, and I mean... I don't know. I'm sure the math works out, but it seems to throw every piece of conventional election wisdom out the window. Romney won married women, won whites with whats got to be a historic (or near it) margin, won married and single men, won college educated people, and won with people making $50,000 + a year. Yet still lost the election. Those numbers, by the way, are why the R party is freaking out vis-a-vis hispanics. Posted by: mynewhandle at May 26, 2015 02:59 PM (AkOaV) 246

That. Plus, the media NEVER ties the "moderate" democrats to the fire breathing progressives in the way that every republican is tied to every other republican. EVERYONE running for any kind of office as an R had to comment on Todd Akin's theory on rape if you recall. When was the last time a "moderate" Dem was asked to denounce / defend something Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer or any of the others say? Never. So the blue collar union types I know vote for Dems but bitch about the outcome of all of their policies, but are LIV enough that they don't realize that the Ed Shultz "for the worker" types they vote for all vote in lockstep with the nutjob San Fran -type progressives in DC. Yup. Some judges still require women in skirts and for the men to never take off their jacket.
We had one judge who would pitch a fit if anyone used first names in court. This meant when the lawyer was questioning his/her own witness, no first names at any point during the questioning. That's hard to remember when you've been using the first name for your client for years. Yeah, that's the problem right now. They did with Obama at the presidential level but they have been getting pounded in many other races. They lost the House and Senate in a big way and are getting hammered at the state level across the country. Republicans have not shown themselves to be anything les than Democrat lite. Perhaps your friends don't like cheap imitations of the real thing? A few days ago, I came across a post where someone advocated killing the GOP by voting Dems. The rationale (I don't want to use the word logic here) was that if we see the GOP as contrary to our views, the quickest way to be rid of them is one party rule by Democrats. At least then the country would see who is fucking things up, and not 2 parties pointing fingers at each other with a wink and a nod. I dunno. It could work. After the burning times. Breaking News:
In court today, in spite of her attorney's insistence, Ms. Jeantel took the stand without wearing panties. No one would have known, if the judge had not admonished her for wearing her skirt too short. The judge informed her that her underwear were visible, to which Ms. Jeantel responded: "That's retarded sir, I isn't wearing no panties." The judge then ordered a 90 minute recess to the proceedings to give the building's janitorial crew time to clean up all the vomit. Posted by: BurtTC at May 26, 2015 03:34 PM (TOk1P) 437
...And I'd say that's ALL media driven. Totally false narratives that take hold in peoples minds.
------- Perhaps. I'm certainly not trying to be combative. I think some people are influenced by the media. But I know many smart people who I think are less influenced by the media and are frankly just clinging to their own religion of government. Posted by: SH at May 26, 2015 03:34 PM (gmeXX) 438

Upton Sinclair just made shit up. All for the good of The Cause.
Yeah he literally did. He later admitted that he'd lied totally about Sacco and Vanzetti because he was afraid what his fellow travelers would do if he told the truth. Sinclair basically had the cause and he was good at spreading it even if he had to make up things to get it done. Its not that everything he said about a subject was nonsense, just that when the truth wouldn't do he was not above just inventing things.
