And I see AMD's desktop GPU market share continue to slip and think to myself "maybe this is not a coincidence."

So Friday was Pac-Man's 35th Anniversary. ArcadeHeroes did a cool writeup on Pac-Man arcade games through the ages. Personally, I'm more of a fan of the cool Pac-Man merch that came out where we got stuff like this

Or This

Why we needed an official Pac-Man joke book, no one will ever know

**********************************************

As old as time itself, a new major game comes out and AMD is back to whining about how their cards aren't good enough and they can't build drivers worth a damn. This right here is a good beatdown on AMD being AMD.

**********************************************

News

Arrowhead is very sorry that their Gauntlet game is a big steaming pile of excrement and they're going to revamp it.

Rememeber Lizard Squad? Yeah, one of those shit stains plead guilty to 23 counts of swatting people online.

• Here is EA's teaser of a teaser to a Need For Speed reboot. I'm okay with more Underground

Well, Casey Hudson is back in the news as he has taken a job at MS to be the creative director for Hololens games. Outside of the ending to Mass Effect 3, that's a very interesting hire IMO.

Konami: Mobile Is gaming's future. Konami a little slow on the uptake.

Koji Igarashi: The the shift to mobile is inevitable.

During their quarterly report, Take Two announced that they're going to shift more to mobile.

• I don't have a link but IDC is forecasting 115m consoles sold by end of the generation which would be a 60% contraction compared to last gen. I personally think that's a little optimistic (I always said about 100m) but they're the gold standard that everyone uses.

Cue the crying like a 6 year old with a skinned knee about how you're going to leave gaming because you're too old or that there will always be consoles because magic.

NEW RELEASES

Splatoon (WiiU) - Well, after 3 months of nothingness, WiiU owners finally get another game to play on their consoles and from the impressions from the betas, it's a good game hampered by the lack of voice chat. This is the type of game Nintendo should have been making the last decade for the western market.

Magica 2 (PC, PS4) - I really didn't like the first game, it was shallow with the only fun being on accidentally killing your teammates which frankly isn't something that lasts longer than a half hour. Thankfully this isn't being made by Arrowhead buy rather the dev team behind the Leviathan: Warships game, a game with good marketing but was mediocre. This also the first game part of the exclusivity deal that Sony and Paradox announced last year at E3. I would be lying if I didn't say I'm curious in if the price on the PC drops like a rock like the first game (it was in pretty much every bargin bin bundle on the planet).

I last played a console game on a PS2 (or was it a PS/2?). I really though that mobile and console would converge and the PS3/Wii (did MS make a console? I don't care, actually, they're shit and their consoles were shit too) would be the last generation of pure, sit-down, plug into the TeeVee stuff.

Some people love AMD CPUs because "they're not Intel," the same way some people like anything that is not Microsoft. To each his / her own. I like stuff that quietly gets the job done. First of all, General Mills offered perfectly good monster cereals. If you wanted a vampire, there was Count Chocula; if you wanted a werewolf, there was Frute Brute.

Secondly, "Twilight" was too stupid to warrant a breakfast cereal. Sure, they could have made a quick buck but it was a brief, passing fad. No one gives any thought to the Twilight stories any more.

And third, Edward loved Bella way more than Jacob did.

89 Since my last post, I looked up some more information regarding the AMD/NVIDIA/Witcher 3 brouhaha and have found that NVIDIA cards using the Kepler (previous gen) architecture have atrocious W3 performance. Yesterday, NVIDIA acknowledged that there will be a driver update to fix Kepler issues:

I don't have W3, but I do have an affected card (GTX 770) which I purchased *last year*.

This machine's AMD. The graphics freeze up on such intensive works of software as "Microsoft Live Mail". It is also unable to handle "American McGee's Alice" half the time and "Dungeon Siege" all the time.

The sweet-spot for it choking on games seems to be the early 32-bit era; it can handle 16-bits like "Alien Legacy" just fine (on a DOSBOX emulator), and it also managed "Mass Effect 2".

91 haven't been playing too many games of late. might play some magicka now that you mention it, as I only played an hour or two of it and it struck me as decent. gotten on an FTL kick of late, and finally beat it on hard a couple times (had only ever tried hard a few times, and hadn't played in several months after beating it on normal with every ship). my LMB is going to crap, so that's adding quite a bit of challenge to any gaming (or even internet browsing) until I go get a new mouse

92 Looking forward to Splatoon, I enjoyed the demos. The drought of games has been pretty bad this year, when I thought 2014 wasn't too hot.

Even though I grew up in the 80s, I can't remember much in the way of Pac-Man merchandise. I distinctly remember eating ET cereal on the day my family moved to a new house; I can also remember eating the Nintendo cereals circa 1988 or so. Good times.

Sad to see AMD headed where they are. If this keeps up, the GPU market will end up like the pinball market from 2000-2014 (no competition and thus no innovation)

96 Update to the dead thread:

Many in various forums have reported performance increases on their Kepler-based cards by downgrading to driver 347.88. I found a ~5% performance increase in Dragon Age: Inquisition and no increase on Hitman: Absolution by doing so. I figured that those two are the most demanding games in my inventory.

Interestingly, the performance for H:A is virtually the same regardless of running at 1080 vs. 720.
