Party of Science: Young People, When Polled, Estimate The Number of Gay People In Society at... 30%

I heard this "three in ten" claim one time, and I laughed at it. Even one-in-ten is too high by a factor of 3-5.

But there's our very educated Millennials for ya!

By the way, I keep hearing the Millennials are "very educated." And they don't mean that ironically.

They mean, of course, that they go to college at higher rates than previous generations, and then waste more time pursuing make-work masters in nonproductive fields.

But seriously: Are they even close to "very educated"?

I know people who employ Millennials.

See if you can guess their take on Millennials' group education level and group intelligence.

And I have to note, as usual, I know some Millennials, and they're bright. And, as I say, they will rule the world in time, for they have nothing but morons between them and the throne.

As Herman Mankiewicz wrote to his writer friend in 1925, imploring him to come to Hollywood:

"Millions are to be made out here, and your only competition is idiots."

He added a whisper:

"Don't let this get around."

Anyway, the fact that America, as a whole, is stupider than it's ever been doesn't mean there aren't very bright Americans, and the fact that the Millennials are a Generation of Imbeciles doesn't change the fact that there are smart Millennials too.

And by the way, the country as a whole -- young people, middle-aged, and old folks too -- peg the number at 25%.

We're not a smart people.

I also see that women, as a whole, also estimated the figure at 30%.

Well... what can we say about that that won't cause a Shaming Crisis?

Um.... it is true that women dabble more with light-to-moderate homosexual acts (at least when younger), and... well I guess it is now de rigeur for every upwardly mobile urban white woman to have her Gay Best Friend.

So maybe that inflates their estimate.

I guess they don't realize that one gay dude they think is their Gay Best Friend is performing Gay Best Friend duties for a network of like eight women.

That poor man.

You have to hand it to the left. They announced their intentions to take over society slowly via their "long march through the institutions", and they did it pretty much in plain sight, and got away with it. Then, once installed, put the up and coming generations on a slow IV drip of their particular cultural poison.

(don't worry about what you want to do, just get a degree. don't worry about the cost, you'll make it up when you get a job. don't worry about loans, you'll make millions more over a life time than your idiot non-college educated peers)

I'm just saying... Everyone from teachers to guidance counselors, to "accepted wisdom" to parents to... EVERYONE said "you'll never be anything unless you go to college."

Right. I was taught in school that "learning facts isn't important. What's important is knowing how to ACCESS facts. No one can be expected to know everything."

Which sounded insightful and edgy at the time, but now sounds very stupid. Especially since "knowing how to access facts" is as simple as "Siri, who were the belligerents during WW2?"

Why even go to school if that's the goal of K-12 education? Any 5 year old knows how to use Siri.

123 really it just means their parents and the educational system has failed them miserably.

Part of the problem is the focus on sending kids to college long before they have any reason to go. In my last job we did web pages; it meant we hired computer programmers, illustrators, and writers.

In most cases, people with degrees in those fields did not have any desire to do those things. We interviewed far too many art majors who didn't enjoy drawing, programming majors who didn't enjoy programming, and English majors who didn't enjoy writing or reading. They didn't go to college because they wanted to learn more about something. They went to college because.

Yes, in fact, I have read the book Generations.

But I don't know if I really buy it.

Maybe in broad strokes. But there is such a massive amount of diversity in my generation that I don't know if I totally buy in to the theory.

Although, on the flip side, there is some truth to the idea that 9/11 shaped my generation, as did the financial crisis, and whatever else.

But it would seem to me that very different conclusions were borne out from those events depending on the individual.

I do think there is a lot of truth to that. Its not the only cause obviously, but it has to be a factor.

Let's face it, we live in a country where the obesity problem is with the poor.

According to our President, our country's greatest threat is a changing climate.

What a country.

176 I don't really blame millennials. Every generation from the baby boomers on has been stupid as fuck from the age of 16 - 25. The difference is that the boomers and the gen-Xers are indulging and encouraging the millennials' SJW bullshit rather than ignoring or scorning it as it deserves. Corporations and universities are exacerbating what would otherwise be benign by rolling over every time some college age dipshit has a bad case of the feels. Not until we see more Protein World and less Boy Scouts will things change. Or until the left's cannibalization of its own becomes to much and they cry for mercy (e.g. Joss Whedon).

In nature, there is such a thing as "mating parts." It's so much a part of nature that the concept is also a big part of mechanical engineering. It's real simple: one part is designed to fit inside the other and made expressly for that purpose alone. Any other use defeats the intent of the design.

287 Pitching a show to TV execs:
It's a story about a typical middle class family.
The dad is a useless, stupid, incompetent overgrown boy, who has breathe in and breathe out tattooed on his hands.
The mom is a good looking but not hot harridan, whose main job it is to roll her eyes and correct her "man".
The son is an androgynous, sexually confused young teen, who never listens and always has earbuds in and a device in his hands.
The daughter is older teen, hot, extraordinarily intelligent, cool, and tough.
The neighbors are gay men who always dress impeccably. One is just like the daughter, only not tough. The other is very sensitive, caring, knowing and wise, and always gets the laugh line while imparting wisdom to the husband and empathy to the wife.
Ooh, and the other neighbors are a doctor and a lawyer African American couple who look down their noses at the buffoons next door, but like them anyways. Once a month they will have a life lesson to give the central family, which will seem like common sense, but somehow it escaped the dunces. (by which I mean the husband)

It'll be a hit. Comedy gold, baby!!

TV exec: Nah. Sounds like every other show.
Get me something fresh....like a homosexual couple in Kalamazoo Michigan, and how they deal with their buffoon heteronormative neighbors.......

Buzz, I will say this though -- the 3% number seems low to me.

I think it was William F Buckley who said, "Only 2% of people are gay? That must mean I know all of them."

In my high school, I'd say 5-10%ish were either openly gay or ... well, hung out with the gay "clique" and I assumed were gay.

Now I suspect a large number of them weren't really gay, but just kind of outsiders who found acceptance in the "gay community" but... I don't know.

In college, though, strangely, I don't remember many gay kids at all. And in my workplace, I know a few lesbians but only 1 gay guy.

Imagine, if you would, a heroin addict -- his entire body sliding down into the most vile, excrement encrusted toilet ever to be found in a public restroom, ever. In search of a heroin suppository.

I'm pretty sure there's no glorification. Not even 1%.

378 The left has, since the beginning of the 20th century, sought to undermine family structure. They NYT, Salon.com, Slate.com, etc, all admit that the endstate of legalizing gay marriage is to normalize polygamy. The logic goes "Gays aren't monogamous, therefore we shouldn't expect gay couples to be monogamous, and thus straight couples have to adapt to this new reality and give of their expectation of fidelity."

Why do all this? Because it undermines familial bonds. When your wife regularly has multiple lovers, and you have multiple girlfriends, the importance of your wife in your life diminishes. When you don't know whether or not your wife's children are yours, it undermines the bond between parent and child. Don't believe me? Look at the child abuse and molestation that occurs in the inner city.

I work with Millennials. And I should say, in some ways they are much, much smarter than us. Tech savvy. Information loaded. They definitely are more connected to their friends, family, and society in general. They seem to have a more social education. Fewer loners in the group. However,
1) They suffer from extreme overconfidence and overestimation of not just their intelligence, but abilities in general. Really intelligent people know one thing - that they don't know everything, that they can't do everything. very few millenials seem like that.
2) As a group they tend to be optimistic, but also as a group, the littlest setbacks seem to set them in atailspin. There is an odd sort of fragility. They tend to bail when the going gets rough.
3)Every Millennial I've ever worked with seems to be writing the screenplay of their life in their head. In this screenplay there are heroes and villains, trials and triumphs. They have a hard time understanding how little the world cares about them, or SHOULD care about them.
4) They love collecting "experiences". They would love nothing better than protest in Ferguson because then they could say they protested in Ferguson.
5) They are absolutely sure and passionate about many things, many of which are utterly false.

421 That's the problem though. A lot of the millennial generation weren't in their teens in 9/11. A lot were in elementary or younger. I think there is a split in the millennial generation itself among the older and younger subcohort.

I draw a parallel to JFK's assassination when I was a kid. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news, and Mumsey Dearest crying at his funeral on TV.

It took me many years to fully understand what had happened and also to notice how our enemies took advantage of a vulnerable national moment to stick their socialism in us.

I hope the young'uns these days are a bit quicker on the uptake than I am.

I've been an expat who works in a couple of multi-national, diverse industuries for some time now and see directly who American millennials are up against in the global market. I think 2008 was more of a fluke with MC Cain (his hip hop name) and the financial crisis.

Agree. I was watching the cooking channel last night, the show called Dinner at Tiffani's. The host is Tiffani Theissan , who starred on Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills 90210.

This episode featured food one could serve if you had guest over to play cards, scrabble, etc.
Her first guest was Ross Mathews, who is...very gay.
Her next guest was Tim Meadows. Tim is not gay, but played a gay dad married to another gay dad in the NBC sit com ..."Marry Me". This role was discussed with Ross Mathews , lots of jokes, etc.
Third guest was Jillian Barbiere of FOX NFL sports weather girl fame.

This was a show about gay people and actors who play gay people, who learned how to make goat cheese stuffed dates and pizza with prociutto.

The gayness is everywhere, in an attempt to make it seem normal and common.

447 I'd have to wonder where this survey was conducted. If you grew up in or around major cities like LA or New York, it might be very easy to develop the belief that far more openly gay people exist than can actually be found in most of the country. A LOT of the gay population from the rest of the country ends up in urban centers. Supposedly San Francisco built up its initial gay population because it was a mustering out location for the Navy. A lot of young men who'd come to a realization about themselves knew they were never going back where they came from and stayed there.

Over the years of dong occasional contract work installing new PCs in banks, I've twice refurbed a Wells Fargo in West Hollywood, CA. Instead of dishes of candy as seen in most branches the desks and teller stations have little bowls of dog biscuits. When I tell this to other LA county residents they immediately understand why this is. Somebody from Nebraska or Kentucky might be puzzled and I have to explain that this is a city where there are almost no children at all but lots and lots of small dogs instead.

451 Don't kid yourself, if it isn't 30%, it soon will be, or more. Looking down on homosexual behavior is not allowed. And with gay marriage becoming the law of the land, of course it must be normalized to children, therefore specializing them. So when puberty hits, who will they be sexually experimenting with, their find or girls? And since there well be no stigma attached, why would they give it up? They are most likely to be bisexual, same as what the Greeks and Romans were. I worry because traditionally in societies where bisexuality is the norm, women and children do not fare well.

458 Reminds me of an unofficial poll my pops, when he was still a public high school teacher, used to run for years. Since the 90's, kids in his mostly white school (Eastern Washington area) would routinely estimate the percentage of blacks in the US as 30 to 50%. Just like with homosexuals, this is a myth created by people in pop culture who most certainly have an agenda that, to paraphrase, KNOW that if they control the children, they control the future.

Posted by: Patrick at May 21, 2015 07:30 PM (U6YEj)

459 Just 1.5% to 2.0% of men, and ONLY 0.5% of women are homosexual.

Actually, Larry Kramer, IIRC, said years ago in an interview that the gay activists deliberately exaggerated the numbers of homosexuals by a factor of ten in order for them to get traction as a "civil rights" group. As a tiny minority engaging in sexually deviant behavior, they weren't making much progress.

It's no wonder the sheeple think gays are 30% of the population -- that's about the ratio of gays in the TV shows and movies, innit? You can't swing a cat without hitting one. It's really getting annoyingly PREACHY.
